Pragmatic Analysis of Deception and Miscommunication in Saki’s’ The Open Window

This research looks at how Saki, also known as H.H. Munro, uses Grice’s maxims to accomplish practical consequences in his short story “The Open Window.” The research investigates how meaning is created through speech and how violations of these principles lead to misconceptions using a pragmatic approach. The research examines how the story’s characters interact in accordance with or without respect to Grice’s four maxims—quality, quantity, manner, and relation —using a qualitative descriptive technique. The study’s questions explore Vera’s application of these aphorisms, the irony and misinterpretation resulting from Framton Nuttel’s presumptions regarding them, Munro’s potential social critique of Victorian communication conventions, and the narrative’s thematic implications of deception, manipulation, and social anxiety. Thirty of Grice’s maxims are found in the story, which Vera disobeys to produce hilarious consequences. The conversation sheds light on how these broken rules lead to misunderstandings and manipulation while also providing an understanding of the story’s social setting and the intentions of the protagonists. This pragmatic approach highlights the significance of effective and transparent communication in interpersonal relationships while enhancing our comprehension of the story’s dynamics, comedy, and thematic depth.

The Impact of Communication Ethics on The Communication Quality in Interpersonal Relationships

Communication ethics are very important in establishing interpersonal relationships. In every communication, ethics are crucial in maintaining the quality of communication and establishing good relationships between individuals. However, there are often still disagreements and misunderstandings in interpersonal communication, which results in poor communication quality. Therefore, research on the impact of communication ethics on the quality of communication in interpersonal relationships is very important to do. This research aims to identify the impact of communication ethics on the quality of communication in interpersonal relationships. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study type. This research was conducted by means of in-depth interviews to a number of respondents who were taken by purposive sampling technique. Observation techniques were also used to observe respondents' behavior in interpersonal communication situations. The data were analyzed descriptively using a qualitative approach. The results showed that communication ethics play an important role in improving the quality of communication in interpersonal relationships. Good communication ethics can create a conducive atmosphere in communication, build trust and reduce disagreements in interpersonal communication. Conversely, poor communication ethics can hinder the quality of communication and worsen interpersonal relationships. Therefore, it is important for individuals to understand and apply good communication ethics in every interpersonal communication situation.

Teachers' effective communication skills are critical in conveying knowledge and skills to students in the classroom during the learning process. It is intended that students be encouraged to be involved and motivated in the learning process so that understanding can be built between teachers and students in order to achieve the teaching and learning process's objectives. Effective communication in interpersonal relationships between teachers and students during the teaching and learning process that includes elements of understanding can create a sense of pleasure, influence attitudes, and improve social relationships, all of which eventually lead to interactive actions for each other. As a result, training in effective communication techniques for teachers in the teaching and learning environments is essential.

Aspects Related to Nurse Leadership in Several Places of Action: Literature Review

It is an integrative review in order to analyze aspects related to the leadership of nurses in the last ten years. The search was carried out from July to August 2019 in Portuguese, English and Spanish. LILACS, BDENF and SCIELO were used as database. For the selection of articles, the descriptors “Perception”, “Leadership” and “Nursing” were combined, of which 46 met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, which were analyzed using a Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyzes checklist - PRISM. As a result, 23 articles were included for the discussion of the theme from four categories: Perception about Leadership, Challenges faced; Communication in interpersonal relationships and Professional qualification. It is noticed that, still, the need to reflect on the work process of nurses so that they have the necessary conditions to deepen their scientific research, developing safe and quality care and a management committed to professional and social valorization.

Using the Interpersonal Relationship Communication Approach to Assess Language Dominance in both Written and Oral Communication among Multilinguals

Copious research works have attempted to assess language dominance among bilinguals. However, very little empirical research has been conducted to determine the concept among multilingual by using interpersonal relationships communication domains such as families, friendships, and acquaintances. This is crucial because the choice of language use between two interlocutors in any domain depends on the level of social relation that exists between them. Therefore, this current study aims to determine language dominance for oral and written communication at different domains of interpersonal relationships such as family, friends, and acquaintance. Each domain size was used as a proxy to measure language dominance among different groups of multilingual living in the Southern part of India. As part of this study, a structured sociolinguistics questionnaire that probes the use of the Facebook Friend Lists feature was adopted to determine each domain size and language use in each domain. The questionnaire was administered among forty-three multilingual postgraduate students. The result showed that the dominant language for oral and written communication in the entire geographical setting is the first language (L1) and English, respectively. This suggests that the interpersonal relationship communication approach is practical to determine language dominance in a community.

Effective Collaboration for Scaling Up Health Technologies: A Case Study of the Chlorhexidine for Umbilical Cord Care Experience.

The global health field is replete with examples of cross-organizational collaborative partnerships, such as networks, alliances, coalitions, task forces, and working groups, often established to tackle a shared global health concern, condition, or threat affecting low-income countries or communities. The purpose of this article is to review factors influencing the effectiveness of a multi-agency global health collaborative effort using the Chlorhexidine Working Group (CWG) as our case study. The CWG was established to accelerate the introduction and global scale-up of chlorhexidine for umbilical cord care to reduce infection-related neonatal morbidity and mortality in low-income countries. Questions included: how current and past CWG members characterized the effectiveness, productivity, collaboration, and leadership of the CWG; what factors facilitated or hindered group function; institutional or individual reasons for participating and length of participation in the CWG; and lessons that might be relevant for future global collaborative partnerships. Data were collected through in-depth, semistructured individual interviews with 19 group members and a review of key guiding documents. Six domains of internal coalition functioning (leadership, interpersonal relationships, task focus, participant benefits and costs, sustainability planning, and community support) were used to frame and describe the functioning of the CWG. Collaboration effectiveness was found to depend on: (1) leadership that maintained a careful balance between discipline and flexibility, (2) a strong secretariat structure that supported the evolution of trust and transparent communication in interpersonal relationships, (3) shared goals that allowed for task focus, (4) diverse membership and active involvement from country-level participants, which created a positive benefit-cost ratio for participants, (5) sufficient resources to support the partnership and build sustainable capacity for members to accelerate the transfer of knowledge, and (6) support from the global health community across multiple organizations. Successful introduction and scale-up of new health interventions require effective collaboration across multiple organizations and disciplines, at both global and country levels. The participatory collaborative partnership approach utilized by the Chlorhexidine Working Group offers an instructive learning case.

Comunicação na unidade de tratamento intensivo, importância e limites – visão da enfermagem e familiares

A study to identify the communication established by the nursing staff in order to develop interpersonal relationship with patients in the Intensive Care Unit and their families, and to detect how this group perceives the issue. It is a qualitative research, carried out with four members of the nursing staff and two relatives of patients in an intensive care unit, totaling six participants. A semi-interview and observation was used. The information was analyzed and grouped into themes. Two themes emerged: the importance of communication and its limits in the nursing and the family views. It was shown the value of communication in interpersonal relationships as a way of humanizing the care and the existence of a lack of autonomy of the nursing team facing the provision of information. It was revealed the importance of communicative action among families, patients and the nursing staff once it helps to provide a more humanized care considering the frailty of the ones involved in the illness. It was concluded that communication is the basis to support nursing actions in order to improve the care for the patient and family.

The Influence of Cultural Variability on Perceptions of Communication Behavior Associated with Relationship Terms

A framework for incorporating the influence of cultural variability into theories of communication in interpersonal relationships is presented and several hypotheses derived from the framework tested. Data from two studies conducted with samples from Japan and the United States revealed that variation along Hofstede's (1980) dimensions of culture are related to intimacy ratings of relationship terms, as well as perceptions of the degree of personalization, synchrony, and difficulty of communication associated with relationships anchored by six specific terms (stranger, acquaintance, classmate, friend, best friend, and lover). Implications of the framework and findings for developing cross-culturally generalizable theories of communication are elaborated.
