NextGenV2V: Authenticated V2V communication for next generation vehicular network using (2, n)-threshold scheme

Securing end-to-end communication in Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANET) is crucial due to zero trust between the communicating entities. Additionally, the underlying communication needs to be lightweight in many cases, especially when vehicles are moving at high speeds or deploying applications like Vehicular Sensor Networks (VSN) and next-generation vehicular networks with densely deployed small-cells and micro-cells. The traditional VANET facilitates two types of communication: Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communication to establish trust between a Vehicle User (Vi) and roadside infrastructure, followed by Vehicle-to-Vehicle communication for information exchange. Unlike existing protocols that encounter security issues and high authentication delay as they require communication with a Trusted Authority (TA) every time Vi needs authentication or re-authentication, we present a symmetric key-based an authenticated V2V communication for next generation vehicular network using (2, n)-threshold scheme, called NextGenV2V. In NextGenV2V, authentication of a newly visited Vi is performed with the help of TA, but re-authentication of a pre-authenticated Vi is done without the support of TA. This significantly reduces communication overhead during re-authentication and improves the overall authentication delay. NextGenV2V is designed in such a way that at least 2 out of n registered vehicle users must cooperate to compute a shared secret key. This feature ensures improved security, as attackers cannot breach the system’s security unless two or more vehicles are compromised. Furthermore, considering that an attacker cannot physically be present in more than one location simultaneously, the system’s security remains intact even if a current vehicle is compromised. The proposed protocol is also verified to resist known security attacks, both formally and informally. To demonstrate the effectiveness of NextGenV2V, a comparative performance analysis is presented that proves its suitability for next-generation vehicular networks.

Phishing Mitigation Techniques: A Literature Survey

Email is a channel of communication which isconsideredto be a confidential medium of communication for exchange of information among individuals and organisations. The confidentiality consideration about email is no longer the case as attackers send malicious emails to users to deceive them into disclosing their private personal information such as username, password, and bank card details, etc. In search of a solution to combat phishing cybercrime attacks, different approaches have been developed. However, the traditional exiting solutions have beenlimited in assisting email users to identify phishing emails from legitimate ones. This paper reveals the different email and website phishing solutions in phishing attack detection. It first provides a literature analysis of different existing phishing mitigation approaches. It then provides a discussion on the limitations of the techniques, before concluding with anexplorationintohow phishing detection can be improved.

Adaptive attack-free protocol for consensus tracking with pure relative output information

This paper considers fully distributed adaptive protocol design for cooperative tracking problem based only on pure relative output information. To tackle leader’s trajectory in the presence of unknown control input, most of the existing observer-based protocols are designed based on absolute output information as well as the relative observer information among neighboring agents, which would suffer from potential network attack. To conquer such limitation, the definition of attack-free protocol is proposed, where no communication information exchange is allowed among neighboring agents, but only relative output measurement can be available. In this setting, the protocol is born to be free from network attack. By taking leader’s control input as external disturbance for each agent, some new kinds of full-order and reduced-order disturbance separation observers are introduced to achieve observation of consensus error. Based on such observer design methods, fully distributed adaptive protocols are successfully proposed to realize distributed tracking without using any absolute output information nor the spectrum information of the graph. Another favorable property of the protocols lies in the communication burden reduction, since to obtain the attack-free feature, each agent does not communicate its designed observer with its neighbors. The effectiveness of the proposed protocols are verified by numerical simulations on a group of transport aircrafts with short-period dynamics.

Different Dimensions of IOT Security

IOT is wirelessly connecting things to the internet using sensors, RFID’s and remotely accessing and managing them over our phone or through our voice. IOT uses various communication protocols such as Zigbee, 6LowPan, Bluetooth and has bi directional communication for exchange of information. The database for IOT is cloud which is also vulnerable to security threats. The increasing amount of popularity of IoT and its pervasive usage has made it more recurrent to prominent cyber-attacks such as botnet attack, IoT ransom ware, DOS attack, RFID hack. The challenges faced by IoT are to stop hackers from stealing data, having unattended access to the device and performing malicious activities. There are many techniques which can be used to secure IoT devices such as using a secure encrypted Wi-Fi network, using digital signature for authenticity, updating to latest patches, installing Intrusion Detection System. We’ll also be assessing various IoT devices and threats associated with them in real time environment and the level of harm these threats can cause to the device if they are not properly mitigated or eradicated. In this paper we’ll also be addressing different types of risks associated with different IOT devices and approaches to solve the security and privacy issues.
