To the best of our knowledge, no previous reports of this condition have been published. Papillary muscle rupture from any cause, in fact, is rare, with only 41 cases having been reported previously. Davisson1summarized 26 cases which had been reported prior to 1948 and added three of his own. In 1950, two cases were reported by Smith2and one by Schwartz.3In the same year Askey4reported eight additional cases, bringing the total to 40. A case of rupture of a papillary...Bibliography1.
