Phosphatidic acid directly activates mTOR and then regulates SREBP to promote ganoderic acid biosynthesis under heat stress in Ganoderma lingzhi.

Ganoderic acids (GAs), a class of secondary metabolites produced by the traditional medicinal mushroom Ganoderma, are a group of triterpenoids with superior biological activities. Heat stress (HS) is one of the most important environmental abiotic stresses. Understanding how organisms sense temperature and integrate this information into their metabolism is important for determining how organisms adapt to climate change and for applying this knowledge to breeding. We previously reported that HS induced GA biosynthesis, and phospholipase D (PLD)-mediated phosphatidic acid (PA) was involved in HS-induced GA biosynthesis. We screened a proteome to identify the PA-binding proteins in G. lingzhi. We reported that PA directly interacted with mTOR and positively correlated with the ability of mTOR to promote GA biosynthesis under HS. The PA-activated mTOR pathway promoted the processing of the transcription factor sterol regulatory element-binding protein (SREBP) under HS, which directly activated GA biosynthesis. Our results suggest that SREBP is an intermediate of the PLD-mediated PA-interacting protein mTOR in HS-induced GA biosynthesis. Our report established the link between PLD-mediated PA production and the activation of mTOR and SREBP in the HS response and HS-induced secondary metabolism in filamentous fungi.

Systematic Characterisation of the Fragmentation of Flavonoids Using High-Resolution Accurate Mass Electrospray Tandem Mass Spectrometry

Flavonoids are a class of polyphenolic secondary metabolites found in plants. Due to their ubiquity in our daily dietary intake and their major anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory and anti-mutagenic activities, they have been a major focus of wide-ranging research for the past two decades. Mass spectrometry combined with liquid chromatography is one of the most popular techniques for the analysis of flavonoids. In this study, high-resolution accurate mass electrospray tandem mass spectrometry was used to study 30 flavonoids in both positive and negative ionisation modes. From the data obtained, common losses were summarised and compiled. Dominating neutral losses were tabulated. The radical loss of CH3· was observed in flavonoids containing methoxy groups and three key diagnostic product ions were identified. These were m/z 153 (indicative of two OH groups on ring A) m/z 167 (indicative of one OH and one methoxy group on ring A) and m/z 151 (a flavanol, with no ketone oxygen but two OH groups on ring A). These will be useful in structural elucidation of unknown flavonoids and flavonoid metabolites. Energy breakdown graphs were utilised to distinguish between three pairs of structural isomers, and to help rationalise proposed fragmentation pathways. Lastly, a competition of loss of CH3· and methane was reported for rhamnetin and isorhamnetin in the negative ion mode for the first time. Proposed fragmentation pathways were given to rationalise the differences in peak intensities for this competitive process.

Chemical Profile, Antibacterial and Toxicological Study of Asparagus setaceus (KUNTH)

Objective: The objective of this work was to obtain the chemical profile and verify the biological activities of ethanolic extract from the leaves of Asparagus setaceus. Method: The extract was obtained with cold ethanol and the classes of secondary metabolites were identified with specific reagents. The antibacterial assays were performed using the microdilution method against the standard bacteria, Gram +: Sthaphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans and Enterococcus faecalis and Gram -: Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoneae and two multidrug-resistant strains: Escherichia coli 27 and Staphylococcus aureus 358 and the resistance modulation assay was performed using aminoglycoside and beta- lactam antibiotics. Toxicity was tested against the microcrustacean Artemia salina (Leach) ranging in concentrations from 10 to 500 μg/mL Results and Discussion: The ethanolic extract of Asparagus setaceus (EEAS) indicated the presence of phenols, condensed tannins, anthocyanins, anthocyanidins, flavones, flavonols, xanthones, chalcones, aurones, flavononols, catechins, leukoanthocyanidins, flavones and saponins. The EEAS presented CL50 of 90.22 μg/ mL. The microbial assay showed inhibition for standard strains of Gram + and Gram bacteria - but in the multidrug-resistant strains it showed clinically non-signific results. For the modulation of antibiotic action against bacterial strains, EEAS presented both synergistic and antagonistic action, with the synergistic action being more expressive on benzylpenicillin, amikacin and gentamicin in front of Escherichia coli 27. The aminoglycoside antibiotics showed synergistic activity on all bacteria tested. Research Implications: Given the results, it was found that the ethanolic extract of the leaves of Asparagus setaceus (Kunth) disp of chemical and biological properties that can contribute to the elaboration of therapeutic resources against inflammatory and bacterial infectious processes. The Influence of Different Factors on the Metabolism of Capsaicinoids in Pepper (Capsicum annuum L.)

Pepper is a globally cultivated vegetable known for its distinct pungent flavor, which is derived from the presence of capsaicinoids, a class of unique secondary metabolites that accumulate specifically in pepper fruits. Since the accumulation of capsaicinoids is influenced by various factors, it is imperative to comprehend the metabolic regulatory mechanisms governing capsaicinoids production. This review offers a thorough examination of the factors that govern the metabolism of capsaicinoids in pepper fruit, with a specific focus on three primary facets: (1) the impact of genotype and developmental stage on capsaicinoids metabolism, (2) the influence of environmental factors on capsaicinoids metabolism, and (3) exogenous substances like methyl jasmonate, chlorophenoxyacetic acid, gibberellic acid, and salicylic acid regulate capsaicinoid metabolism. The findings of this study are expected to enhance comprehension of capsaicinoids metabolism and aid in the improvement of breeding and cultivation practices for high-quality pepper in the future.

Mushroom alkaloids as nutraceuticals, bioactive and medicinal properties: a preliminary review

Mushroom alkaloids are quite interesting due to their distinct secondary metabolites. Alkaloids are a class of secondary metabolites that are found in different types of organisms. The primary focus of this study is the alkaloids that were taken out of the mushrooms. Mainly the mushrooms alkaloids are classified as 2 groups like indoles and isoxazoles. In the present paper 68 distinct alkaloids produced from mushrooms were attempted to be listed under 24 distinct groups; i.e. 24 alkaloids were kept under Indole group, 5 different alkaloids were kept under ? - carboline group and pyrroloquinoline group, 4 different alkaloids were kept under pyrrole group, and 3 different alkaloids were mentioned under quinoline groups. Mushrooms were used as food in many parts of the world. The alkaloids obtained from mushrooms showing different bioactivities like antimicrobial, anticancer, anti-diabetic, hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, immunomodulatory, anti-obesity, anti - ageing, nematicidal, helmintic, against cardiovascular disease and as antiasthmatic agent. Mushrooms were widely used in the traditional medicine of many countries like china, India, Taiwan, Japan etc. these mushrooms became great resources for many groups of alkaloids with bioactivities which should be useful in present day modern clinical and pharmacological research. The present review aims at listing the applications of mushroom alkaloids in different fields like medicine, health science, pharmacy etc.

Efficient Production of 4’-Hydroxydihydrochalcones Using Non-Conventional Yeast Strains

The quest for novel therapeutic agents has rekindled interest in natural products, particularly those derived from biotransformation processes. Dihydrochalcones, a class of plant secondary metabolites, exhibit a range of pharmacological properties. Chalcone and dihydrochalcone compounds with the characteristic 4’-hydroxy substitution are present in ‘dragon’s blood’ resin, known for its traditional medicinal uses and complex composition, making the isolation of these compounds challenging. This study investigates the efficient production of 4′-hydroxydihydrochalcones using non-conventional yeast strains. We evaluated the biotransformation efficiency of various 4′-hydroxychalcone substrates utilizing yeast strains such as Yarrowia lipolytica KCh 71, Saccharomyces cerevisiae KCh 464, Rhodotorula rubra KCh 4 and KCh 82, and Rhodotorula glutinis KCh 242. Our findings revealed that Yarrowia lipolytica KCh 71, Rhodotorula rubra KCh 4 and KCh 82, and Rhodotorula glutinis KCh 242 exhibited the highest conversion efficiencies, exceeding 98% within one hour for most substrates. The position of methoxy substituents in the chalcone ring significantly influenced hydrogenation efficiency. Moreover, we observed isomerization of trans-4′-hydroxy-2-methoxychalcone to its cis isomer, catalyzed by light exposure. This study underscores the potential of using yeast strains for the sustainable and efficient production of dihydrochalcones, providing a foundation for developing new therapeutic agents and nutraceuticals.

Metabolit Sekunder dan Uji Bioaktivitas Sitotoksik Ekstrak Buah Sumpit (Brucea javanica (L.) Merr) terhadap Artemia salina Leach

Research carried out with the title of Secondary Metabolite Identification and bioactivity Fruit Extract Sumpit (Brucea javanica (L) Merr) to the shrimp larvae Artemia salina Leach. This study aims to identifying classes of secondary metabolites as well as test the bioactivity of secondary metabolites sumpit. Identifikasi fruit extracts performed to test the Chopsticks fruit extracts and fractions against reagent, while the bioactivity test was conducted using Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT). Data were analyzed using the method of Reed and Muench to get Lethality Concrentation value 50% (LC50). The results showed that the fruit extract Sumpit contain the alkaloid class of secondary metabolites, karatenoid, saponins, tannins, phenolic compounds, steroids, and terpenoids. Sumpit fruit bioactivity test results had LC50 values of the methanol extract of 3.10 ppm, n-hexane fraction of 2.09 ppm, 0.79 ppm ethyl acetate fraction and n-butanol fractions of 0.74 ppm.

The Influence of Rhizobial Nod Factors on the Synthesis of Flavonoids in Common Buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench)

Flavonoids constitute a class of polyphenolic secondary metabolites synthesised mainly by plants and possessing anticancer, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral properties. Common buckwheat (F. esculentum Moench) is a dicotyledonous plant rich in different classes of flavonoids (e.g., rutin) and other phenolic compounds. Lipochitooligosaccharides (LCOs), i.e., rhizobial Nod factors and important signalling molecules for the initiation of symbiosis with legumes, are very effective mitogens that stimulate cell division in plant meristems and the production of secondary metabolites. They can also act in this way in non-legume plants. It has been shown that rhizobial Nod factors noticeably improve plant growth. Rhizobial Nod factors influence the production of flavonoids in common buckwheat grown in greenhouse conditions. The amount of rutin and isoorientin in leaves and flowers has been shown to increase in a statistically significant way after application of Nod factors to buckwheat seeds. The presence of rhizobial Nod factors has no influence on the flavonoid content in stems and roots.

This study delves into the investigation of specific terpenoids showcasing promising anticancer activity against prevalent malignancies, including breast, colon, ovarian, and lung cancers. The study also explores the relationship between the structure and activity of these compounds, which sheds light on how effective they are against a variety of cancer cell types. The comprehensive discussion centres on elucidating terpenoids with substantial potential for combating diverse cancer types, offering insights into their structural features and promising anticancer mechanisms.

Unveiling Lobophytum sp. the neuroprotective potential of Parkinson's disease through multifaceted mechanisms, supported by metabolomic analysis and network pharmacology

A main feature of neurodegenerative diseases is the loss of neurons. One of the most prevalent neurodegenerative illnesses is Parkinson disease (PD). Although several medications are already approved to treat neurodegenerative disorders, most of them only address associated symptoms. The main aim of the current study was to examine the neuroprotective efficacy and underlying mechanism of Lobophytum sp. crude extract in a rotenone-induced rat model of neurodegeneration mimicking PD in humans. The influence of the treatment on antioxidant, inflammatory, and apoptotic markers was assessed in addition to the investigation of TH (tyrosine hydroxylase) immunochemistry, histopathological changes, and α-synuclein. Metabolomic profiling of Lobophytum sp. crude extract was done by using High-Resolution Liquid Chromatography coupled with Mass Spectrometry (HR-LC–ESI–MS), which revealed the presence of 20 compounds (1–20) belonging to several classes of secondary metabolites including diterpenoids, sesquiterpenoids, steroids, and steroid glycosides. From our experimental results, we report that Lobophytum sp. extract conferred neuroprotection against rotenone-induced PD by inhibiting ROS formation, apoptosis, and inflammatory mediators including IL-6, IL-1β, and TNF-α, NF-кB, and subsequent neurodegeneration as evidenced by decreased α-synuclein deposition and enhanced tyrosine hydroxylase immunoreactivity. Moreover, a computational network pharmacology study was performed for the dereplicated compounds from Lobophytum sp. using PubChem, SwissTarget Prediction, STRING, DisGeNET, and ShinyGO databases. Among the studied genes, CYP19A1 was the top gene related to Parkinson’s disease. Dendrinolide compounds annotated a high number of parkinsonism genes. The vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) pathway was the top signaling pathway related to the studied genes. Therefore, we speculate that Lobophytum sp. extract, owing to its pleiotropic mechanisms, could be further developed as a possible therapeutic drug for treating Parkinson's disease.

Different extraction methods shape the phenolic signature and biological activity of Morinda lucida extracts: A novel source of bioactive compounds preparing functional applications

The extraction of bioactive compounds is based on the application of various extraction techniques. Therefore, the stem and root bark of the plant species Morinda lucida L. were used in this research, while the extraction procedure was performed using three extraction techniques: HAE (homogenizer extraction), UAE (ultrasound extraction) as modern, and MAC (maceration) as conventional extraction technique. The presence of different classes of secondary metabolites was determined using the UHPLC method, while the content of total phenols and flavonoids was determined spectrophotometrically. The biological potential was investigated by in vitro antioxidant and enzyme assays. Different extraction technologies showed significant differences in only two classes of phenols, namely lignans and phenolic acids, which were significantly higher in HAE than in UAE and MAC. These findings highlight the significant effect of stem and bark extracts of M. lucida, opening the way for innovative industrial exploitation of these matrices.

Unveiling the anticancer potential of Pestalotioprolide E, an unexplored macrolide: Targeting TRXR1-TRX1-ASK1-P38 signaling cascade in triple-negative breast cancer

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is highly aggressive and metastatic in nature. Existing treatment modalities for TNBC are associated with severe side effects. Thioredoxin reductase (TRXR), the pivotal component of the thioredoxin system, remains overexpressed in various cancer cells including TNBC; promotes cell growth, proliferation, and metastasis, and inhibits apoptosis. Pestalotioprolide E is one of the potent macrolides, a class of secondary metabolites derived from an endophytic fungus Pestalotiopsis microspora with relatively unexplored biological activities. Our study revealed increased expression and activity of TRXR1 in MDA-MB-231 cells compared to the non-cancerous cells. In silico docking analysis and in vitro activity assay demonstrated that Pestalotioprolide E directly interacts with TRXR1 and inhibits its enzymatic activity. This inhibition induces apoptosis via TRX1/ASK1/P38MAPK death signaling cascade and retards metastasis through modulating VEGF, MMP-2, MMP-9, E-cadherin, N-cadherin in MDA-MB-231 cells. Taken together present study establishes TRXR1 as a molecular target for Pestalotioprolide E and its anticancer effect can be attributed to the inhibition of TRXR1 activity in MDA-MB-231.

Plant-Derived Terpenoids: A Plethora of Bioactive Compounds with Several Health Functions and Industrial Applications-A Comprehensive Overview.

Terpenoids are a large class of natural secondary plant metabolites which are highly diverse in structure, formed from isoprene units (C-5), associated with a wide range of biological properties, including antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, anticancer, antimetastatic, antiangiogenesis, and apoptosis induction, and are considered for potential application in the food, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, and medical industries. In plants, terpenoids exert a variety of basic functions in growth and development. This review gives an overview, highlighting the current knowledge of terpenoids and recent advances in our understanding of the organization, regulation, and diversification of core and specialized terpenoid metabolic pathways and addressing the most important functions of volatile and non-volatile specialized terpenoid metabolites in plants. A comprehensive description of different aspects of plant-derived terpenoids as a sustainable source of bioactive compounds, their biosynthetic pathway, the several biological properties attributed to these secondary metabolites associated with health-promoting effects, and their potential industrial applications in several fields will be provided, and emerging and green extraction methods will also be discussed. In addition, future research perspectives within this framework will be highlighted. Literature selection was carried out using the National Library of Medicine, PubMed, and international reference data for the period from 2010 to 2024 using the keyword "terpenoids". A total of 177,633 published papers were found, of which 196 original and review papers were included in this review according to the criteria of their scientific reliability, their completeness, and their relevance to the theme considered.

Secretory structures and histochemistry of roots, stem, and leaves of medicinal plant Fibraurea tinctoria Lour.

Fibraurea tinctoria Lour. (Menispermaceae) is a medicinal plant used by many local tribes in Indonesia and other countries. This species has pharmacological potential, such as antimalaria, antibacterial, antitumor, antioxidant, anticancer, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, and hepato-protector. However, the secretory structures and sites of secondary metabolite accumulation still need to be studied. This study aimed to explore the secretory structures and reveal the accumulation sites of the main classes of secondary metabolites in the root, stem, and leaves of F. tinctoria. Histochemical analysis using various specific reagents was performed on freehand sections of the fresh organs to detect alkaloids, phenolics, terpenoids, and lipophilic compounds. Observations of secretory structures were carried out using light microscopy. The result showed that idioblast was the predominant secretory structure in the plant organs and contained all the chemical groups investigated, while laticifer accumulated alkaloids were found only in the stem. Some secondary metabolites were localized in the xylem, intercellular space, and cuticle layer. Crystals were observed in the root, stem, and leaf of this species. These results might be helpful as guide information for extracting the particular plant parts to obtain the desired secondary metabolites. It suggested that leaves are a potential alternative source of medicinal raw material of this species, in addition to the stem. RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS: The first study on secretory structures of Fibraurea tinctoria. Secondary metabolites in F. tinctoria organs accumulate in specialized and unspecialized structures. The idioblast is the primary secretory structure in the organs of F. tinctoria spreading over the root, stem, and leaves.

Effect of Flavonoids against Parkinson's Disease.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder. It is characterized by the depletion of striatal dopamine content and aggregation of alphasynuclein in the substantia nigra (SN). It is possible to treat the symptoms of PD with a variety of medications, but they often result in complications and are not able to cure or stop the progression of the disease. Flavonoids (the phytocomponents present in almost all fruits and vegetables) are the class of secondary metabolites that have generated a peak of interest because of their medicinal properties, including a reduction in the risk of PD. Several flavonoids such as quercetin, kaempferol, hesperitin, anthocyanin and many more have been reported for their anti- Parkinson's effect. This review deals with the neuroprotective benefits of different classes of flavonoids against PD.

Cytotoxicity of Benzofuran-Containing Simplified Viniferin Analogues.

Within the huge class of plant secondary metabolites, resveratrol-derived stilbenoids show wide structural diversity and mediate a great number of biological responses relevant for human health, including cancer prevention and cytotoxicity. Resveratrol is known to modulate several pathways directly linked to cancer progression, as well as its analogue pterostilbene, characterized by an increased metabolic stability and significant pharmacological activities. To study the potential anticancer activity of other stilbenoids, a home-made collection of resveratrol dimers and simplified analogues was tested on melanoma A375, non-small cell lung cancer H460 and PC3 prostate cancer cell lines. The structural determinants responsible for the antiproliferative activity have been highlighted. Moreover, to investigate the DNA damage ability of the selected molecules, the expression of the γ-H2AX after compound exposure was evaluated.

Diversity of African fungi, chemical constituents and biological activities

Besides plants and animals, the fungal kingdom consists of several species characterized by various forms and applications. Fungi are amazing producers of bioactive natural products with applications in medicine and agriculture. Though this kingdom has been extensively investigated worldwide, it remains relatively underexplored in Africa. To address the knowledge gaps, encourage research interest, and suggest opportunities for the discovery of more bioactive substances from African fungi, we considered it appropriate to extensively review the research work carried out on African fungi since 1988. This review summarizes the diversity and distribution of fungi throughout Africa, the secondary metabolites yet reported from studied fungi, their biological activities and, the countries where they were collected. The studied fungi originated from eleven African countries and were mainly endophytic fungi and higher fungi (macrofungi). Their investigation led to the isolation of five hundred and three (503) compounds with polyketides representing the main class of secondary metabolites. The compounds exhibited varied biological activities with antibacterial and antiproliferative properties being the most prominent.

Compounds from Natural Products Candidates to Drug for Chikungunya Virus Infection: A Systematic Review

Introduction: Chikungunya fever is a disease caused by infection with the Chikungunya virus, transmitted by Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. Despite its self-limited character, more than 60% of patients have chronic recurrent arthralgia with debilitating pain that lasts for years. Aim: The objective of this review was to gather and analyze evidence from the literature on potential therapeutic strategies with molecules from natural products for the treatment of Chikungunya fever. Methods: A search was performed for clinical trials, observational studies, in vitro or in vivo, without restriction of the year of publication or language in electronic databases (Medline/PubMed, EMBASE, Google Scholar, The Cochrane Library, LILACS (BVS), clinical trial registries (Clinical Trials.gov), digital libraries from CAPES theses and dissertations (Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior, Brazil) and conference abstracts. A quality assessment of the selected studies was performed using the SYRCLE, RoB2 and SciRAP tools. Results: 42 studies were included, which showed molecules with potential antiviral pharmacological activity or with activity in reducing the joint complications caused by CHIKV infection. Conclusions: Among the molecules found in the survey of references, regarding the class of secondary metabolites, flavonoids stood out and for this reason, the molecules may be promising candidates for future clinical trials. Overall, evidence from in vitro studies was of acceptable quality; in vivo and intervention studies showed a high risk of bias, which is a limitation of these studies.

Solid Lipid Nanoparticles Encapsulating a Benzoxanthene Derivative in a Model of the Human Blood-Brain Barrier: Modulation of Angiogenic Parameters and Inflammation in Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor-Stimulated Angiogenesis.

Lignans, a class of secondary metabolites found in plants, along with their derivatives, exhibit diverse pharmacological activities, including antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antiangiogenic ones. Angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels from pre-existing ones, is a crucial process for cancer growth and development. Several studies have elucidated the synergistic relationship between angiogenesis and inflammation in various inflammatory diseases, highlighting a correlation between inflammation and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-induced angiogenesis. Thus, the identification of novel molecules capable of modulating VEGF effects presents promising prospects for developing therapies aimed at stabilizing, reversing, or even arresting disease progression. Lignans often suffer from low aqueous solubility and, for their use, encapsulation in a delivery system is needed. In this research, a bioinspired benzoxantene has been encapsulated in solid lipid nanoparticles that have been characterized for their pharmacotechnical properties and their thermotropic behavior. The effects of these encapsulated nanoparticles on angiogenic parameters and inflammation in VEGF-induced angiogenesis were evaluated using human brain microvascular endothelial cells (HBMECs) as a human blood-brain barrier model.

Evaluation of antiulcer potential of tambulin and ombuin isolated from Zanthoxylum armatum

ObjectivesZanthoxulym armatum fruit is traditionally used as carminative, anthelmintic, stomachic, and to relieve gastritis. It is commonly found in Nepal, Uttarakhand, and the Himalayan region of India. Tribal peoples used this fruit for various purposes and also as a spice ingredient. The present study aims to investigate the antiulcer potential of the fruit extract, and its isolated compounds. Materials and methodsFruits were extracted with successive extraction methods with hexane, ethyl acetate, and butanol. All the fractions were evaluated for phytochemical investigations. Further, the ethyl acetate fraction, tambulin, and ombuin were tested for antiulcer activity induced by ethanol and pylorus ligation-induced methods. The IL-1β, TNF-α, and IL-6 cytokines were also studied followed by histopathology. ResultsIt has been demonstrated that the ethyl acetate fraction possesses a major class of secondary metabolites. No acute toxicity was observed, as all the organs (heart, kidney, lung, stomach, and liver) were found in normal range and no significant weight variation was found. The antiulcer activity was performed at two different doses of all samples. Tambulin possesses the most significant activity at the dose of 50 mg/kg. Ulcer index and percent ulcer inhibition of tambulin were found to be 2.8 ± 0.6 mm2 and 69.5 ± 0.18 % in pylorus –ligated model whereas 5.2 ± 0.7 mm2 and 70.2 ± 0.15 in the ethanol-induced model. Histopathology results also support the above-mentioned data. ConclusionTambulin, a flavonoidal compound isolated from fruits of Z. armatum was found to be useful in the management of ulcers. Ethylacetate extract and ombuin also possess dose-dependent activity.
