Permanent magnet synchronous motor: chaos control using single controller, synchronization and circuit implementation

The aim of this paper is to address the problem of the electronic implementation of chaos control using a single controller and synchronization of chaotic permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). Firstly, different dynamical behaviors of the PMSM including steady state, periodic and chaotic behaviors are found using numerical methods such as two-dimensional largest Lyapunov exponents graph associated with two parameters of PMSM. Secondly, two simple and single controllers are designed and added to the chaotic PMSM in order to suppress chaotic behavior. The performance of the two proposed simple and single controllers is illustrated by numerical simulations. Thirdly, controllers are designed to achieve synchronization of unidirectional coupled identical chaotic PMSMs. Numerical simulations are also used to verify the effectiveness of the synchronization. Finally, the existence of chaos in PMSM and the physical feasibility of the proposed two simple and single controllers as well as the chaos synchronization are validated through the circuit implementation on OrCAD-PSpice software. The circuit implementation results comply fairly with those of the numerical simulation results and establish that the existence of chaotic behavior in the PMSM and the achievement of chaos synchronization in unidirectional coupled identical PMSMs designed and the two single controllers designed are effective and successful in suppressing chaotic behavior in PMSM.

Reduced-order observer-based adaptive fuzzy tracking control for chaotic permanent magnet synchronous motors

This paper studies an adaptive fuzzy control method combined with reduced-order observer technology for the position tracking control of chaotic permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive system. Fuzzy logic systems (FLSs) are introduced to solve the problem of nonlinear and unknown functions appeared in the PMSM drive system, reduced-order observer is used to calculate its angle speed. Meanwhile, adaptive backstepping mechanism is applied for the design procedure of controllers. The control technique developed in this paper can ensure that the tracking error falls into a small neighborhood of origin. Compared with the existing results, the proposed algorithm can solve the explosion of complexity issue and it does not require measuring the speed signal of motors and the number of adaptive parameters has been reduced to only one. Simulation results show that the chaos of PMSM can be successfully suppressed by the proposed method and the system can track the reference signals very well.

Adaptive robust nonlinear feedback control of chaos in PMSM system with modeling uncertainty

It has been proved that chaos exists in the permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) system when its parameters satisfy some condition, and it would degrade the efficiency of the PMSM system dramatically. In this paper, an adaptive robust control method is proposed to eliminate or suppress the chaos in PMSM, based on the mathematical analysis of chaotic property of the PMSM system. It not only accounts for the parametric uncertainties (structured uncertainties) but also takes the external load torque disturbances (unstructured uncertainties) into account. Adaptive control item is designed to deal with the former while robust item is designed to deal with the latter and the parametric estimation error respectively and both of them are integrated together via a feedforward cancellation technique. Numerical simulation results show that this method is more reliable, more accurate, and thus more applicable, compared to the existing control methods.

Based on Adaptive Backstepping Error Control for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) displays chaotic phenomenon when PMSM in power on or power off. At present, there are many methods to control chaos in PMSM. However, there appears oscillation in course of control chaos in PMSM, which has an effect on practical application. This paper proposes error control based on adaptive backstepping to control chaos in PMSM; an error control item is added in each step virtual control design which has control effect of unknown dynamical error on system. This scheme can eliminate oscillation in course of control chaos. Finally, the simulation results show the effectiveness of theoretical analysis.

Guaranteed Cost Control Based on Uncertain Fuzzy Systems of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

– This paper deals with the chaos phenomenon of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). The Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model of PMSM chaos system is built. Based on the fuzzy Lyapunov function approach, a robust optimal guaranteed cost controller is designed in the form of linear matrix inequality (LMI). Thus the chaos of PMSM with parametric uncertainties is eliminated. The simulation result shows that the robust control system adopting the designed method has good performance and robust capability. And the efficiency of fuzzy Lyapunov stability theory is also illustrated.

Adaptive fuzzy dynamic surface control for the chaotic permanent magnet synchronous motor using Nussbaum gain.

This paper is concerned with the problem of adaptive fuzzy dynamic surface control (DSC) for the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) system with chaotic behavior, disturbance and unknown control gain and parameters. Nussbaum gain is adopted to cope with the situation that the control gain is unknown. And the unknown items can be estimated by fuzzy logic system. The proposed controller guarantees that all the signals in the closed-loop system are bounded and the system output eventually converges to a small neighborhood of the desired reference signal. Finally, the numerical simulations indicate that the proposed scheme can suppress the chaos of PMSM and show the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method.

CLF Based Stabilization of Chaos in PMSM with Uncertain Parameters

The robust stabilization problem of chaos suppression for permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) drive system is investigated in presence of parametric uncertainties. Based on control Lyapunov function (CLF) approach, a new state feedback controller is designed to realize the state of the system globally asymptotically stable. The stability of the proposed control scheme is verified via Lyapunov stable theory. Finally, simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of the presented method. Optimal control for permanent magnet synchronous motor

This paper mainly analyzes the chaotic phenomenon of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) when the PMSM is turned off and the research parameters of PMSM identify the effect of chaotic phenomenon of PMSM. Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation is introduced and a proposed optimal control technique based on HJB equation to control chaos in PMSM. Based on HJB equation, the problem of the design optimal controller is summarized as that of partial differential equations. And then the optimal controller is got by constructing Lyapunov function. In theory, a chaotic system can be controlled to any expected state using this scheme. Applying this scheme to control the chaos of PMSM when the PMSM is turned off, the PMSM can be asymptotically stable to zero point. Numerical simulations further test the effectiveness of the theoretical analysis.

Controlling Chaos in Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors by Cascade Adaptive Approach

Chaotic phenomena in permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) can be observed when parameters in PMSM are in a certain range. In general, chaos will degrade the performance of PMSM or even collapse the system. In order to suppress the chaos in PMSM, cascade adaptive control is utilized in this paper. Faithful model of PMSM is not necessarily required by using adaptive control based on dynamic compensation mechanism. By choosing appropriate controller parameters, chaos will be eliminated and the response speed can be tunable. Numerical simulation results for nominal case and parameter perturbation case are given out to confirm the cascade adaptive control is valid in chaos control of PMSM.

Control of chaos in permanent magnet synchronous motor by using optimal Lyapunov exponents placement

Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) experiences chaotic behavior for a certain range of its parameters. In this case, since the performance of the PMSM degrades, the chaos should be eliminated. In this Letter, the control of the undesirable chaos in PMSM using Lyapunov exponents (LEs) placement is proposed that is also improved by choosing optimal locations of the LEs in the sense of predefined cost function. Moreover, in order to provide the physical realization of the method, nonlinear parameter estimator for the system is suggested. Finally, to show the effectiveness of the proposed methodology, the simulation results for applying this control strategy are provided.

Hence, it is important to study methods of controlling or suppressing chaos in PMSMs. In this paper, the stability of a PMSM with parameter uncertainties is investigated. After uncertain matrices which represent the variable system parameters are formulated through matrix analysis, a novel asymptotical stability criterion is established by employing the method of Lyapunov functions and linear matrix inequality technology. An example is also given to illustrate the effectiveness of our results.

Controlling chaos in permanent magnet synchronous motor based on finite-time stability theory

This paper reports that the performance of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) degrades due to chaos when its systemic parameters fall into a certain area. To control the undesirable chaos in PMSM, a nonlinear controller, which is simple and easy to be constructed, is presented to achieve finite-time chaos control based on the finite-time stability theory. Computer simulation results show that the proposed controller is very effective. The obtained results may help to maintain the industrial servo driven system's security operation.

Adaptive controlling chaos in permanent magnet synchronous motor based on the LaSalle theory

Recent investigation has shown that the permanent magnet synchronous motor （PMSM） goes chaos for certain parameter values or under certain working conditions, which threatens the secure and stable operation of the motor. Hence, it is significant to study the method of controlling or suppressing chaos in PMSM. Based on LaSalle invariant theory, an adaptive law of controlling chaos was presented in this paper, which enablcs avoiding the influence of undeterministic equilibrium of the system. Simulation results show that the designed control method is effective and its control property is better than that of others. Our research results may help to maintain the system’s secure operation.

Fuzzy control of chaos in permanent magnet synchronous motor with parameter uncertainties

The permanent magnet synchronous motor （PMSMs） may have chaotic behaviors under certain working conditions, especially for uncertain values of parameters，which threatens its secure and stable operation. Hence，it is important to study methods of controlling or suppressing chaos in PMSMs. In this paper，the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy control model for PMSMs with parameter uncertainties is established via the Takagi-Sugen modeling method. Based on the new model，the control conditions of asymptotical stability for PMSMs with parameter uncertainties have been derived by Lyapunov method and matrix analysis. An illustrative example is also given to show the effectiveness of our results. Compared with the curently available results，the obtained results exhibit some advantage.

Fuzzy Impulsive Control of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors

The permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) may experience chaotic behaviours with systemic parameters falling into a certain area or under certain working conditions, which threaten the secure and stable operation of motor-driven. Hence, it is important to study the methods of controlling or suppressing chaos in PMSMs. In this work, the Takagi–Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy impulsive control model for PMSMs is established via the T-S modelling methodology and impulsive technology. Based on the new model, the control conditions of asymptotical stability and exponential stability for PMSMs have been derived by the Lyapunov method. Finally, an illustrated example is also given to show the effectiveness of the obtained results.

Robust adaptive dynamic surface control of chaos in permanent magnet synchronous motor

Abstract With system parameters falling into a certain area, the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is experiencing chaotic behavior which threatens the secure and stable operation of drive system. To control the undesirable chaos in PMSM, an adaptive dynamic surface control (DSC) law is first designed, which overcomes the problem of “explosion of terms” associated with the traditional backstepping design procedure by introducing first-order low-pass filters. And then, based on Lyapunov asymptotical stability theory, stability of the closed-loop controlled system is analyzed. Simulation results show that the presented control law is very effective and robust against the uncertainties in system parameters. The research of this Letter may help to maintain the industrial drive system's security operation.

Nonlinear feedback control of chaos in permanent magnet synchronous motor

Permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) will demonstrate chaotic phenomena when its parameters fall into a certain area. The performance of PMSM will degrade because of chaos. Therefore, chaos should be suppressed or eliminated. According to the features of this practical plant, the drawbacks of existing control methods are analyzed, and the nonlinear feedback control method is suggested to control the chaos in PMSM. The nonlinear feedback principle is developed using the direct axis and the quadrature axis stator voltage as manipulated variables. The control target will become a unique asymptotically stable equilibrium under the nonlinear feedback principle, by this way, the controlled states can reach the target and the control objective can be implemented. This method can be physically realized using nonlinear state feedback. The control forces can be put into effect at any time. The target of the method may be any point in the strange attractor. The influence of the model error and the measurement noise upon the control performance is studied via simulations. Simulation results show the effectiveness of this method under the presence of the model error and the measurement noise

Controlling chaos in permanent magnet synchronous motor based on the differential geometry method

Recent investigation has shown that the permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) may have chaotic behaviors for cortain values of parameters or under certain working conditions,which threatens the secure and stable operation of motor-driven.Hence,it is important to study methods of controlling or suppressing chaos in PMSM.Using the exact linearization theory of differential geometry,a law of controlling chaos in PMSM is deduced in this paper, and then,the process of controlling is simulated and analyzed.Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the deduced control law is effective and its control property is better than that of other methods.Our results may help to maintain the system's secure operation.
