Future actions and a call for ongoing support

Abstract The EUVABECO project is currently piloting a suite of innovative tools, including decision support systems, targeted screening tools, electronic vaccine leaflets, disease simulators, and cross-border vaccination cards. These tools have shown great promise in transforming vaccination practices within individual healthcare settings, contributing to building vaccine confidence and increasing protection against vaccine-preventable infections across the life course. As EUVABECO progresses to the crucial phase of implementing these pilots, active collaboration and sustained support from the multiple actors of the vaccine ecosystem in the implementing countries are essential. To ensure these tools are effectively adapted across different MS, they must be customised to meet local needs and the specific requirements of diverse healthcare environments. This involves integrating feedback from initial deployments. More than just a technical implementation, this phase is about fostering and maintaining robust partnerships with key stakeholders such as healthcare providers, policymakers, and National Immunization Technical Advisory Groups (NITAGs). The success of the EUVABECO project depends on continuous engagement and the sharing of knowledge and resources among all partners involved. This presentation seeks to reinforce the call for ongoing commitment and collaboration from existing stakeholders and to encourage new partners to join this transformative effort. This will foster a more harmonized approach to vaccination policies. Together, we aim to build a more resilient public health infrastructure, enhancing the preparedness and responsiveness to current and future vaccination challenges, ultimately improving resilience to health threats across the European Union.

Understanding COVID-19 Media Framing: Comparative Insights from Germany, the US, and the UK During Omicron

ABSTRACT This study examines the media framing of COVID-19 reporting in Germany, the United States, and the United Kingdom during the period of the highly contagious Omicron variant from December 2021 to March 2022. By identifying issue-specific media frames using hierarchical cluster analysis, the study gains insights into the distinctive characteristics of journalistic roles within each country and sheds light on the similarities and differences in media framing. Findings reveal that the German Süddeutsche Zeitung prioritizes the economic and Omicron impact on society and reports rather emotionally through evaluations and blame on social issues but frames otherwise quite neutral, reflecting its role in opinion formation and information dissemination. Conversely, the American New York Times takes an objective and informative approach, except similar to the Süddeutsche Zeitung when dealing with social impacts of the pandemic, addressing Omicron, economic impacts, and vaccination challenges while emphasizing shared burdens of the pandemic. The British Guardian gives equal weight to economic and social consequences and the Omicron impact and also raises the issues concerning the healthcare sector. Blame and negative evaluations cross all frames and newspapers, although (emotionally charged) evaluations and accusations are most prevalent in the Guardian, often directed at unvaccinated people and politics.

Optimizing Protection Against HPV-Related Cancer: Unveiling the Benefits and Overcoming Challenges of HPV Vaccination.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine is an underutilized tool in cancer prevention. HPV vaccine completion rates in adolescents age 13 to 15 years remain low at 59%. The HPV vaccine can prevent more than 90% of cases of cancer caused by HPV, including cervical, oropharyngeal, anal, penile, vulvar, and vaginal. HPV vaccine is very safe and effective, as demonstrated by numerous large-scale studies. Practice-based strategies can improve vaccination rates, such as having providers give a strong presumptive recommendation for the vaccine, using motivational interviewing for hesitant families, and using electronic health record reminders to prompt providers to offer it, among other interventions. Offering HPV vaccine starting at age 9 years is another evidence-based strategy to improve HPV vaccine completion rates, which has been shown to be acceptable to both providers and parents. Enhancing Omicron Sublineage Neutralization: Insights From Bivalent and Monovalent COVID-19 Booster Vaccines and Recent SARS-CoV-2 Omicron Variant Infections.

Omicron variants have rapidly diversified into sublineages with mutations that enhance immune evasion, posing challenges for vaccination and antibody responses. This study aimed to compare serum cross-neutralizing antibody responses against various SARS-CoV-2 Omicron sublineages (BA.1, BA.5, XBB.1.17.1, FK.1.1, and JN.1) in recipients of monovalent COVID-19 boosters, bivalent booster recipients, and individuals who had recovered from Omicron BA.5 infections. We conducted a micro-neutralization assay on serum samples from monovalent BNT162b2 booster recipients (N = 54), bivalent BNT162b2 booster recipients (N = 24), and SARS-CoV-2 Omicron BA.5-recovered individuals (N = 13). The history of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron infection was assessed using ELISA against the SARS-CoV-2 NP protein. Bivalent booster recipients exhibited significantly enhanced neutralization efficacy against Omicron sublineages compared to those who had received monovalent booster vaccinations. Omicron BA.5-recovered individuals displayed similar neutralizing antibodies (NAbs) to the bivalent booster recipients. Despite the improved neutralization in bivalent recipients and BA.5-recovered individuals, there were limitations in neutralization against the recently emerged Omicron subvariants: XBB.1.17.1 FK.1.1, and JN.1. In both monovalent and bivalent booster recipients, a history of Omicron breakthrough infection was associated with relatively higher geometric mean titers of NAbs against Omicron BA.1, BA.5, and XBB.1.17.1 variants. This study underscores the intricate interplay between vaccination strategies, immune imprinting, and the dynamic landscape of SARS-CoV-2 variants. Although bivalent boosters enhance neutralization, addressing the challenge of emerging sublineages like XBB.1.17.1, FK.1.1, and JN.1 may necessitate the development of tailored vaccines, underscoring the need for ongoing adaptation to effectively combat this highly mutable virus.

Mosaic HIV-1 vaccine and SHIV challenge strain V2 loop sequence identity and protection in primates

The failure of human vaccine efficacy trials assessing a mosaic HIV-1 vaccine calls into question the translatability of preclinical SHIV challenge studies that demonstrated high efficacy of this vaccine in primates. Here we present a post hoc immune correlates analysis of HIV-1 Env peptide-binding antibody responses from the NHP13-19 study identifying the V2 loop as the principal correlate of protection in primates. Moreover, we found high V2 loop sequence identity between the Mos1 vaccine component and the SHIV challenge strain, while the vaccine showed considerably lower V2 identity to globally circulating HIV-1 sequences. Thus, the induction of immune responses against the V2 epitope, which had exceptional identity between the vaccine and challenge Env strains, may have contributed to the high protection in primates.

The equity road ahead for financing non-national immunization program vaccines in China: challenges and opportunities from a qualitative study

BackgroundIn China, national immunization program (NIP) vaccines benefit from robust financial support and have achieved high coverage. Non-NIP vaccines rely on fragmented funding sources, mostly out-of-pocket payment, and face sub-optimal and inequitable coverage. Sustainable financing needs to be secured for addressing equity in non-NIP vaccine delivery. However, discussion and understanding of this issue remain limited. This study aims to analyze the current situation, comprehensively identify challenges and opportunities in non-NIP vaccine financing, and offer suggestions to enhance vaccine uptake and improve public health.MethodsBetween July and December 2023, we conducted a series of semi-structured, in-person interviews with 55 stakeholders from the Health Bureau, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Medical Insurance Bureau, and Finance Bureau across five provinces in China. Participants were selected through stratified sampling, and the interviews mainly included their involvement in non-NIP vaccine financing, challenges faced, and strategies for improvement to enhance financing performance. Informed consent was obtained, and thematic analysis was used to analyze the data.ResultsNon-NIP vaccine financing sources include out-of-pocket payments, government fiscal, health insurance and other external funds. These four channels differ in vaccine types covered, costs, and target populations, each with unique challenges and opportunities. High out-of-pocket costs remain a significant barrier to equitable vaccine uptake, while market competition has lowered the vaccine price and improved accessibility. Local fiscal support for free vaccination programs faces challenges related to sustainability and regional disparity, though governmental commitment to vaccination is growing. Nevertheless, centralized procurement organized by the government has lowered the price and reduced the financial burden. Despite legal restrictions on using basic health insurance for vaccinations and limited commercial insurance options, private medical savings accounts and mutual-aid mechanisms present new opportunities. Although the scope and impact of external support are limited, it has successfully increased awareness and social attention to vaccination.ConclusionRelying on individual payments as the main financing channel for non-NIP vaccines is unsustainable and inadequate for ensuring universal vaccine access. A concerted and synergistic approach is essential to ensure sufficient, sustainable resources and enhance public financial management to improve equity in the non-NIP vaccines.

Multi-omics analysis reveals regime shifts in the gastrointestinal ecosystem in chickens following anticoccidial vaccination and Eimeria tenella challenge.

Coccidiosis, caused by Eimeria parasites, significantly impacts poultry farm economics and animal welfare. Beyond its direct impact on health, Eimeria infection disrupts enteric microbial populations leading to dysbiosis and increases vulnerability to secondary diseases such as necrotic enteritis, caused by Clostridium perfringens. The impact of Eimeria infection or anticoccidial vaccination on host gastrointestinal phenotypes and enteric microbiota remains understudied. In this study, the metabolomic profiles and microbiota composition of chicken caecal tissue and contents were evaluated concurrently during a controlled experimental vaccination and challenge trial. Cobb500 broilers were vaccinated with a Saccharomyces cerevisiae-vectored anticoccidial vaccine and challenged with 15,000 Eimeria tenella oocysts. Assessment of caecal pathology and quantification of parasite load revealed correlations with alterations to caecal microbiota and caecal metabolome linked to infection and vaccination status. Infection heightened microbiota richness with increases in potentially pathogenic species, while vaccination elevated beneficial Bifidobacterium. Using a multi-omics factor analysis, data on caecal microbiota and metabolome were integrated and distinct profiles for healthy, infected, and recovering chickens were identified. Healthy and recovering chickens exhibited higher vitamin B metabolism linked to short-chain fatty acid-producing bacteria, whereas essential amino acid and cell membrane lipid metabolisms were prominent in infected and vaccinated chickens. Notably, vaccinated chickens showed distinct metabolites related to the enrichment of sphingolipids, important components of nerve cells and cell membranes. Our integrated multi-omics model revealed latent biomarkers indicative of vaccination and infection status, offering potential tools for diagnosing infection, monitoring vaccination efficacy, and guiding the development of novel treatments or controls.IMPORTANCEAdvances in anticoccidial vaccines have garnered significant attention in poultry health management. However, the intricacies of vaccine-induced alterations in the chicken gut microbiome and its subsequent impact on host metabolism remain inadequately explored. This study delves into the metabolic and microbiotic shifts in chickens post-vaccination, employing a multi-omics integration analysis. Our findings highlight a notable synergy between the microbiome composition and host-microbe interacted metabolic pathways in vaccinated chickens, differentiating them from infected or non-vaccinated cohorts. These insights pave the way for more targeted and efficient approaches in poultry disease control, enhancing both the efficacy of vaccines and the overall health of poultry populations.

Current Challenges of Vaccination in Fish Health Management.

Vaccination is an essential method of immunological preventive care required for the health management of all animals, including fish. More particularly, immunization is necessary for in-land aquaculture to manage diseases in fish broodstocks and healthy seed production. According to the latest statistics in 2020, 90.3 million tons of capture fishery production was achieved from the aquaculture sector. Out of the above, 78.8 million tons were from marine water aquaculture sectors, and 11.5 million tons were from inland water aquaculture sectors. About a 4% decline in fish production was achieved in 2020 in comparison to 2018 from inland aquaculture sectors. On the other hand, the digestive protein content, healthy fats, and nutritional values of fish products are comparatively more affordable than in other meat sources. In 2014, about 10% of aquatic cultured animals were lost (costing global annual losses > USD 10 billion) due to infectious diseases. Therefore, vaccination in fish, especially in broodstocks, is one of the essential approaches to stop such losses in the aquaculture sector. Fish vaccines consist of whole-killed pathogens, protein subunits, recombinant proteins, DNA, or live-attenuated vaccines. Challenges persist in the adaption of vaccination in the aquaculture sector, the route of administration, the use of effective adjuvants, and, most importantly, the lack of effective results. The use of autogenous vaccines; vaccination via intramuscular, intraperitoneal, or oral routes; and, most importantly, adding vaccines in feed using top dressing methods or as a constituent in fish feed are now emerging. These methods will lower the risk of using antibiotics in cultured water by reducing environmental contamination.

Protective immune response against Rhodococcus equi: An innate immunity-focused review.

Rhodococcus equi causes pyogranulomatous pneumonia in foals and immunocompromised people. Despite decades of research efforts, no vaccine is available against this common cause of disease and death in foals. The purpose of this narrative review is to summarise the current understanding of interactions between R. equi and the host innate immune system, to describe features of the immune response that are associated with resistance or susceptibility to R. equi infection, and help guide strategies for developing novel approaches for preventing R. equi infections. Virulence of R. equi in foals has been attributed to the virulence associated protein A which allows intracellular survival in macrophages by preventing acidification of R. equi-containing vacuole. Additionally, foal susceptibility to R. equi infection is associated with immaturity and naivety of innate and adaptive immune systems, while adult horses with fully functional immune system are resistant to pneumonia. Specific interaction between R. equi and innate immune cells can result in bacterial survival or death; learning how to manipulate these responses to control infection is critical to prevent pneumonia in foals. Administration of live vaccines and stimulation of innate immune responses appears to improve foals' immune response and has the potential to overcome the challenges of foal active vaccination and elicit protection against pneumonia.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination in a privately funded program in Ghana: A qualitative case study

ABSTRACT HPV vaccination is one of the safest and most effective interventions against HPV-related cancers. From 2013 to 2018, HPV vaccination was piloted in Ghana in preparation for a national program. Yet, at the time of this study, there was no publicly funded HPV vaccination program in Ghana. We explored an existing privately funded HPV vaccination program in Ghana to identify challenges and gaps and to gather insights to inform vaccination practice and national policy. This study used a qualitative case study research design. We conducted semi-structured interviews on experiences, barriers, and challenges in HPV vaccination at the Greater-Accra Regional Hospital between October 1 and November 26, 2023. Participants (N = 16) included HPV vaccinators (n = 8) and program/policy leaders (n = 8). Our thematic analysis focused on HPV vaccination processes, practice challenges, and policy interests. Four main themes emerged from our analyses. Our findings revealed many challenges faced by the HPV vaccination program. These include a lack of guiding policy/framework for the HPV vaccination program, an emphasis on sexual history, cervical screening, and HPV DNA test in determining vaccination eligibility by vaccinators, and a lack of formal provider and recipient HPV education programs. Although many vaccinators advocated for a universal HPV program, some policy/program leaders were reluctant to prioritize HPV vaccination advocacy due to their focus on acute health concerns. A vaccination program without a policy can be limited in quality and efficiency, as there will be no accountability and sustainability measures. We recommend the need to develop standardized guidelines to support evidence-based HPV vaccination practice.

Invasive Pneumococcal Infections Among Moroccan Children: Pneumococcal Vaccination Challenges in the Mature Vaccine Era.

Streptococcus pneumoniae, a major contributor to global morbidity and mortality, disproportionately affects children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals. Despite vaccination efforts, the challenge of serotype replacement highlights the ongoing struggle against invasive pneumococcal diseases (IPD) in Morocco, emphasizing the need for updated public health strategies and vaccine efficacy assessments. This study was conducted at the Ibn Rochd University Hospital Center and the Mohammed VI University Hospital Center from 2019 to 2022, focusing on hospitalized children. It involved the analysis of 74 strains of IPD, assessing the distribution of pneumococcal serotypes and their antibiotic sensitivity in the post-vaccination era. The prevalence of meningitis or meningo-encephalitis was found to be 66% among the study subjects, with the most frequent serotypes being 3, 19A, 6B, 14, and 11. These serotypes varied significantly by age and location. Coverage rates for the pneumococcal conjugate vaccines, PCV-10 and PCV-13, were 20.27% and 56.75%, respectively. Notably, 43% of the strains were non-vaccine serotypes, with serotypes 3 and 19 accounting for 36% of the infections in children, indicating a lack of vaccine efficacy against these types. Additionally, 31.3% of the strains were Penicillin non-susceptible Streptococcus pneumoniae (PNSP), with 81.25% associated with non-vaccine serotypes. This study highlights the persistence of IPD in Moroccan children, revealing significant challenges despite vaccination efforts. With the reintroduction of PCV-13, concerns about the efficacy against non-vaccine serotypes, particularly 3 and 19A, remain. Continuous surveillance and adaptable vaccination strategies are essential to combat these serotype replacements and ensure the effectiveness of future preventive measures.

Mitigating Misinformation Toolkit: A Medical Student Role-Play Curriculum on Communication Techniques to Facilitate Vaccine Misinformation Conversations.

The COVID pandemic and affiliated infodemic led to widespread health misinformation, generating confusion and distrust. Physicians must identify and address misinformation, with attention to cultural/health literacy, equity, and autonomy. Most medical students receive training in core communication techniques but are rarely taught how to combat misinformation with patients and lack opportunities for practice in diverse settings. We used mixed methods to evaluate the impact of a role-play-based training curriculum on 44 third- and fourth-year medical students' comfort and confidence applying ask-respond-tell-seek solutions (ARTS) and motivational interviewing (MI) to discuss vaccine hesitancy, using COVID-19 as an example. There were three training iterations: prior to volunteering at a community health fair, during a medicine clinical rotation, and during a pediatrics rotation. Pre- and postsession questionnaires were administered. Likert-scale questions assessed comfort and confidence using ARTS and MI. Narrative responses focused on previous experiences with vaccine hesitancy, challenges faced, and session takeaways. Students' comfort, confidence with ARTS/MI, and self-reported ability to discuss COVID-19 vaccinations improved as measured by pre- and postsession surveys (p < .05). Qualitatively, students reported increased confidence delivering recommendations in plain language and exploring patients' thought processes behind choices. Reinforcement of core communications strategies in medical school can positively impact trainees' ability and ease addressing misinformation. We recommend this 45-minute training session to effectively increase medical students' comfort and confidence in discussing COVID-19 vaccines with patients. It can be adapted to any health professions school with an existing communications thread.

Advancements and Challenges in Peptide-Based Cancer Vaccination: A Multidisciplinary Perspective.

With the continuous advancements in tumor immunotherapy, researchers are actively exploring new treatment methods. Peptide therapeutic cancer vaccines have garnered significant attention for their potential in improving patient outcomes. Despite its potential, only a single peptide-based cancer vaccine has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). A comprehensive understanding of the underlying mechanisms and current development status is crucial for advancing these vaccines. This review provides an in-depth analysis of the production principles and therapeutic mechanisms of peptide-based cancer vaccines, highlights the commonly used peptide-based cancer vaccines, and examines the synergistic effects of combining these vaccines with immunotherapy, targeted therapy, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. While some studies have yielded suboptimal results, the potential of combination therapies remains substantial. Additionally, we addressed the management and adverse events associated with peptide-based cancer vaccines, noting their relatively higher safety profile compared to traditional radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Lastly, we also discussed the roles of adjuvants and targeted delivery systems in enhancing vaccine efficacy. In conclusion, this review comprehensively outlines the current landscape of peptide-based cancer vaccination and underscores its potential as a pivotal immunotherapy approach.

The desire of autonomy: A lever for vaccination of the elderly? Results of a qualitative study

ABSTRACT The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the challenges of vaccination and the infectious risks among the elderlies. However, immunization rates for recommended vaccines in this population are insufficient in France. We aimed in this study to identify the levers and obstacles to vaccination among seniors, and to establish the arguments that could lead to some new vaccination behaviors. A qualitative survey based on 14 semi-structured interviews was conducted with people aged 65 and over, living at home in the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region (France) from March to May 2022. The interviews were recorded, entirely transcribed, then subjected to a thematic content analysis. The results show that participants are keen to preserve their health by maintaining their physical capacity, taking regular exercise and eating a balanced diet. However, vaccination was not mentioned as a mean of preventing infectious diseases. Infections were not perceived as a cause for concern. Furthermore, the physical and cognitive consequences of infectious diseases, which could result in a loss of autonomy, were not known. These elements could be a good lever to bring hesitant elderly people to reconsider their position toward vaccination. Vaccines were not seen as a strategy to prevent loss of autonomy among elderlies. Since vaccines against influenza, COVID-19, shingles, pneumococcus have proved to be effective in protecting against cardiovascular events, this argument might be the starting point for a prevention campaign for the elderly.

Advances and challenges in anti-cancer vaccines for multiple myeloma.

Multiple myeloma (MM) is a hematological cancer marked by plasma cell accumulation in the bone marrow. Despite treatment advancements, MM remains incurable in most patients. MM-associated immune dysregulation fosters disease progression, prompting research into immunotherapy to combat the disease. An area of immunotherapy investigation is the design of myeloma vaccine therapy to reverse tumor-associated immune suppression and elicit tumor-specific immune responses to effectively target MM cells. This article reviews vaccine immunotherapy for MM, categorizing findings by antigen type and delivery method. Antigens include idiotype (Id), tumor-associated (TAA), tumor-specific (TSA), and whole tumor lysate. Myeloma vaccination has so far shown limited clinical efficacy. However, further studies are essential to optimize various aspects, including antigen and patient selection, vaccine timing and sequencing, and rational combinations with emerging MM treatments.

COVID-19, stemming from the SARS-CoV-2 virus, has initiated a worldwide respiratory pandemic. Remarkable headway has been made in the realm of vaccination, as nearly every nation has initiated COVID-19 vaccine deployment. However, a mere 32.6% of individuals in low-income countries have received only a single vaccine dose. Unprecedented research and development endeavors have yielded over 170 COVID-19 vaccines, several of which are now in practical use. These vaccines have demonstrated remarkable efficacy in averting severe illness, hospitalization, and fatalities from COVID-19, even against emerging variants. Research pursuits persist, concentrating on novel vaccine technologies, oral and nasal vaccines, broader coronavirus protection, and vaccine combinations. In the realm of therapeutics, there have been significant strides in developing oral antiviral medications and monoclonal antibodies. Nonetheless, challenges in COVID-19 vaccination persist, encompassing issues of hesitancy, accessibility, financial barriers, knowledge gaps, and logistical hindrances. Robust monitoring via global agencies and reporting systems remains pivotal. Strategies for enhancing vaccination efficacy are rooted in fostering trust, countering misinformation, and expanding access. As for therapeutics, the approach involves dedicated research, clinical trials, regulatory streamlining, stockpiling, and international collaboration. Telemedicine and public awareness campaigns play integral roles in this effort, with coordination being the linchpin for preserving lives and mitigating the disease's impact. The global campaign against COVID-19 has witnessed substantial advancements, with an ongoing research focus on developing vaccines and therapeutics that are not only more accessible and affordable but also more effective, particularly for populations in low-income countries and vulnerable communities.

Vaccine challenges in CLL: a comprehensive exploration of efficacy of SARS-CoV-2 immunization for patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is characterized by disease- and treatment-related immunosuppression. Patients with CLL comprise a vulnerable population to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), while the protective effect of COVID-19 vaccination remains uncertain.We conducted a systematic review to evaluate published data reporting response to COVID-19 vaccination in patients with CLL. The primary outcome was the rate of seropositivity after full primary vaccination, while secondary outcomes were rates of positive neutralizing antibodies, cellular responses, and adverse events. Response after booster doses of vaccination was also evaluated.Twenty-three studies of full primary vaccination (12 CLL-specific with 1747 patients, 11 with mixed hematologic diseases including 1044 patients with CLL) with a total of 2791 patients, and eight studies on booster doses with 389 patients were included in the analysis. The serologic response varied between studies with a median of 55%. Where reported, the median neutralizing antibody response rate was 61.2% and the cellular response rate was 44.2%. Poor serologic response was noted in patients under active treatment with anti-CD20 monoclonal antibodies, BCL2, and BTK inhibitors.The present review highlights the substantially impaired humoral and cellular response to COVID-19 vaccination in patients with CLL with patients under active treatment being the most vulnerable.

Multiplex Assay to Determine Acute Phase Proteins in Modified Live PRRSV Vaccinated Pigs.

Acute phase protein (APP) response to vaccine challenges is an attractive alternative to natural infection for identifying pigs with increased disease resilience and monitoring the productive performance. Currently, the methods used for APP quantification are diverse and often based on techniques that use antibodies that are not necessarily pig specific. The objective of this work is the development of a method based on a UPLC-SRM/MS system for simultaneous determination of haptoglobin, apolipoprotein A1, C-reactive protein, pig-major acute protein, and serum amyloid A and its application in pigs to monitor the effect of a vaccine administered against porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV). With the aim of tracing the complete analytical process for each proteotypic peptide, a synthetic QconCat polypeptide construct was designed. It was possible to develop an SRM method including haptoglobin, apolipoprotein A1, pig-MAP, and serum amyloid A1. The PRRSV vaccine only affected haptoglobin. The pigs with positive viremia tended to show higher values than negative pigs, reaching significant differences in the three haptoglobin SRM-detected peptides but not with the data acquired by immunoenzymatic and spectrophotometric assays. These results open the door to the use of SRM to accurately monitor APP changes in experimental pigs.
