As part of this mission, CSPP develops evidence-based guidelines and advisories, standards of basic anesthesia practice, and reviews patient care documents developed by other health care organizations. The ASA guidelines and practice advisories provide guidance to improve clinician decision-making and promote beneficial outcomes for the practice of anesthesiology. The guidelines and advisories are not intended as unique or exclusive indicators of appropriate care. The interpretation and application of these guidelines and advisories take place within the context of local institutions, organizations, and practice conditions.
