The effect of scenario-based training versus video training on nurse anesthesia students’ basic life support knowledge and skill of cardiopulmonary resuscitation: a quasi-experimental comparative study

BackgroundPerforming CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) is an extremely intricate skill whose success depends largely on the level of knowledge and skill of Anesthesiology students. Therefore, this research was conducted to compare the effect of the scenario-based training method as opposed to video training method on nurse anesthesia students’ BLS (Basic Life Support) knowledge and skills.MethodsThis randomized quasi-experimental study involved 45 nurse anesthesia students of Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences, Ahvaz, Iran in 2022–2023. The practical room of the university formed the research environment. The participants were randomly divided into three groups of scenario-based training, video training, and control. Data were collected by a knowledge questionnaire and a BLS skill assessment checklist before and after the intervention.ResultsThere was a significant difference between the students’ scores of BLS knowledge and skill before and after the educational intervention in both SG (scenario group) (p < 0.001) and VG (video group) (p = 0.008) (p < 0.001). However, no significant difference was observed in this regard in the CG (control group) (p = 0.37) (p = 0.16). Also, the mean scores of BLS knowledge and skills in the SG were higher than those in the VG (p < 0.001).ConclusionGiven the beneficial impact of scenario-based education on fostering active participation, critical thinking, utilization of intellectual abilities, and learner creativity, it appears that this approach holds an advantage over video training, particularly when it comes to teaching crucial subjects like Basic Life Support.

Exploration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation teamwork training for maternal cardiac arrest using the SimMan intelligent simulation platform: A simulation teaching study.

Maternal cardiac arrest is the most urgent clinical event in obstetrics and can lead to serious consequences, such as maternal or fetal death. Therefore, the training of team cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for obstetricians is essential. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of applying intelligent simulation to CPR in maternal cardiac arrest teamwork training for obstetricians. Twenty-four obstetricians who participated in the "Maternal First Aid Workshop," organized by our hospital in 2018, were selected as training participants. The SimMan intelligent comprehensive patient simulator was used to train the CPR team collaboration with first-aid skills. Each team participating in the training was assessed before and after the training using a questionnaire survey. The evaluation of the results after the training showed that all four teams were qualified and that the timing of the cesarean section was 100% correct. The mean score, team collaboration score, and chest compression fraction were significantly higher than before training. Teamwork CPR assessment time, interruption time of chest compressions, and artificial airway establishment time were significantly shorter than before training. The questionnaire survey showed that 95.8% of the physicians reported that the training was rewarding and helpful to their clinical work, and 100% of the physicians believed that obstetricians require similar training. Using the SimMan intelligent comprehensive patient simulator to train obstetricians for CPR of maternal cardiac arrest teamwork first-aid skills can significantly improve the training effect, clinical first-aid skills, and teamwork awareness.

Knowledge and Skills in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Effect of Simulation Training on it among Healthcare Workers in a Tertiary Care Center in India.

High-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is associated with improved patient outcomes, but healthcare workers (HCWs) may be frequently undertrained. This study aimed to assess baseline knowledge and skills among HCWs about basic and advanced life support and the effect of simulation-based training on it. It was a single-center prospective quasi-interventional study among resident doctors and nurses at a Tertiary Center in New Delhi, India. A questionnaire-based assessment was done to assess baseline knowledge. The participants then underwent simulation-based training followed by questionnaire-based knowledge assessment and skill assessment. A repeat questionnaire-based assessment was done 6 months post-training to assess knowledge retention. A total of 82 HCWs (54 doctors and 28 nurses) were enrolled. The participants scored 22.28 ± 6.06 out of 35 (63.65%) in the pre-training knowledge assessment, with low scores in post-cardiac arrest care, advanced life support, and defibrillation. After the training, there was a significant rise in scores to 28.32 ± 4.08 out of 35 (80.9%) (p < 0.01). The retention of knowledge at 6 months was 68.87% (p < 0.01). The participants scored 92.61 ± 4.75% marks in skill assessment with lower scores in chest compressions and team leadership roles. There was a positive correlation (r = 0.35) between knowledge and skills scores (p < 0.01). There is a progressive decrease in baseline knowledge of HCWs with the further steps in the adult chain of survival. The simulation training program had a positive impact on the knowledge of HCWs. A comparison between the effects of simulation of basic CPR training and workshops on firefighters’ knowledge and skills: experimental study

BackgroundOne of the most common causes of death worldwide is cardiopulmonary arrest. Firefighters are among the first responders at the scenes of accidents and can, therefore, play a key part in performing basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for victims who need it. The present study was conducted to compare the effects of simulation training against workshops on the CPR knowledge and skills of firefighters in the south of Iran.MethodsThis experimental (Interventional) study was conducted on 60 firefighters of south of Fars province, Iran. The study was undertaken from March to July 2023. Through random allocation, the participants were divided into two groups: simulation-based training (30 members) and traditional workshop training (30 members). The participants’ CPR knowledge and practical skills were measured before, immediately after, and three months after intervention.ResultsThe findings of the study revealed a statistically significant difference between the pretest and posttest CPR knowledge and skill mean scores of the simulation groups as compared to the workshop group (p < 0.001). As measured three months after the intervention, the firefighters’ knowledge and skill mean scores were still significantly different from their pretest mean scores (p < 0.001); however, they had declined, which can be attributed to the fact that the study population did not frequently exercise CPR.ConclusionBased on the findings of the study, even though both methods of education were effective on enhancing the firefighters’ CPR knowledge and skill, simulation training had a far greater impact than training in workshops. In view of the decline in the participants’ knowledge and skill scores over time, it is recommended that short simulation training courses on CPR should be repeated on a regular basis.

Pilot testing of mobile app-based blended learning on selected skills of cardiopulmonary resuscitation among nursing students.

Background Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a skill-oriented training programme required to be practised and updated periodically by every healthcare provider. Methods In an open-label randomized controlled trial, 81 fourth-year BSc Nursing students were randomized to experimental (n=41) and control (n=40) groups using a computer-generated table. The learning resource material was shared through a mobile-app with the experimental group (EG) and the control group (CG) received the internet link for retrieving the learning resource material, 4 days before a 1-day training programme. Baseline knowledge and skills assessment of the students was done before the commencement of the training programme, using a pre-validated self-developed questionnaire based on standardized CPR guidelines of professional bodies. Post-intervention assessment of knowledge, skills, confidence and satisfaction of the students with the training methodology was done at the end of the training programme. The confidence and satisfaction of the students with the training methodology were assessed using a standardized confidence scale and a self-developed satisfaction scale, respectively. Results The baseline knowledge and skills scores of the students were comparable (EG v. CG, knowledge: 16.04 [2.35] v. 15.52 [2.69], p=0.34; skill: 13.41 [5.28] v. 15.02 [4.66], p=0.16). A comparable improvement was seen in post-intervention knowledge and skills scores between the groups (EG v. CG, knowledge 17.78 [1.49] v. 17.70 [1.51], p=0.82; skill 29.85 [2.44] v. 30.08 [2.79], p=0.60). The post-intervention confidence in performing the skills (20.22 [2.76] v. 19.41 [3.63], p=0.331) and satisfaction with the method of dissemination of educational resource material (29.85 [2.4] v. 30.08 [2.79], p=0.73) were also comparable in both the groups. Conclusion Both mobile app-based and internet link-based learning resource material along with hands-on sessions were effective in bringing comparable improvement in knowledge, skills, self-confidence and satisfaction of students in performing the selected skills of cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Emergency incidents can occur anywhere, this condition requires community participation to help victims before they are found by health workers, which is very important. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation health education for the lay public is the main thing to increase the ability to help life-threatening victims before going to the hospital. Health information about cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for people aims to increase knowledge and be able to help victims of cardiac arrest. The activities are carried out in 2 methods offline and online which are packaged in the form of questions, answers and direct practice. The number of participants was 30, health education material was delivered and questions and answers were held for ± 30 minutes about RJP, followed by CPR practice for ± 20 minutes. The tools used are small manikins and pillows and there are group divisions and each group is accompanied by a guide. The results before health education and CPR practice were carried out, the level of knowledge of respondents was good, 15 people (50%), 5 people (17%) had sufficient knowledge and 10 people (33%) had less knowledge. After being given health education there was a change in the knowledge category, namely 18 people (60%) had good knowledge, 7 people (23%) had sufficient knowledge and 5 people had less knowledge (17%) about heart attacks and CPR skills. Empowering Tomorrow's Healers: Assessing Knowledge and Attitude Regarding CPR Training among Final-Year Doctor of Physical Therapy Students in Karachi-Cross Sectional Study

Background: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a critical skill for healthcare professionals, including physical therapy students. Despite its importance, there is a gap in research regarding the CPR knowledge of these future professionals. This study aims to assess the level of CPR knowledge and attitudes among final-year Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students. Objective: The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the CPR knowledge, confidence in performing CPR, and attitudes towards CPR training among final-year DPT students in Karachi. Methods: A cross-sectional study design was employed, using a non-probability convenience sampling technique. Data were collected from 101 final-year DPT students using a validated questionnaire adapted from previous studies. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS version 23, focusing on descriptive statistics such as frequency and percentage. Results: While all participants were aware of CPR, only 49.5% believed their knowledge was adequate. About half of the students had previously taken a CPR training course, yet only 27.7% had done so within the past year. In situations requiring CPR, 50% of those who had faced such scenarios did not perform it, primarily due to nervousness. Approximately 69.3% knew the correct sequence of CPR, and 85% were willing to perform CPR on anyone if necessary. Conclusion: The study reveals a significant gap in confidence and practical knowledge of CPR among final-year DPT students. Despite a high level of initial awareness, there is a need for regular, updated training to build proficiency and confidence in CPR. Integrating CPR training into the DPT curriculum and promoting regular retraining could be key strategies for improving CPR skills among future physical therapists.

Effectiveness of Self-directed Virtual Learning on Retention of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Knowledge and Skills among Hospital Nurses in North-western Nigeria: Protocol Paper

Introduction: The instructor-led CPR training method has been used for over 4 decades. However, nurses’ knowledge and skills are still low. Instructor-led CPR training is an extremely capital-intensive programme that requires more time, workforce, and space, thus serving as an impediment to effective learning among the prospective nurses’ trainees. Self-directed training method is suggested to improve the knowledge and skills of CPR among healthcare practitioners due to the low cost and flexibility. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of self-directed method in improving nurses’ knowledge and skill retention from baseline to post-test, one, three-, and six months. Method: A two-arm double-blinded randomised controlled trial will be conducted in two referral hospitals. The control group training consists of a one-day session taught by AHA-certified instructors, whereas the intervention group training entails participants learning on computers in a simulation lab for seven days. A generalised estimated equation model will be used for statistical analysis. Discussion: Through the self-directed training method, participants will have significantly better knowledge and skills of CPR compared to the conversational training method across the time points. Self-directed training method is a simple, cost-effective and flexible method, which can facilitate the training of more nurses in the acquisition and retention of knowledge and skills, especially for those who prefer to learn at their own pace. Education of schoolchildren in cardiopulmonary resuscitation - overview of the current literature.

Recognition of cardiac arrest and initiation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can be learned and adequately replicated by schoolchildren. Regular instruction of schoolchildren in CPR is therefore a core element to increase low bystander CPR rates. Thereby, schoolchildren CPR training evolved as own scientific field within the last decade. Aim was to describe current evidence in terms of epidemiology, teaching approaches and political aspects. Schoolchildren demonstrate a high motivation to be trained in CPR. Teaching approaches that combine theoretical and practical learning sessions guarantee a sustainable learning effect. Schoolchildren can adequately perform chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth ventilation from the age of 12 years. Use of digital media is a highly promising teaching approach. CPR training conducted by teachers from the own school is effective and guarantees continuous development of CPR skills. Integration of schoolchildren CPR training into school curricula is the foundation for a sustainable increase of lay resuscitation rates in the population. Scientific and political promotion of schoolchildren CPR training is needed to sensitize the population and move bystander CPR in the social focus. While bystander CPR rates are low in Europe comprehensive establishment of schoolchildren CPR training may sustainably increase survival after cardiac arrest.

Non-technical Skills in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation: Improvement and Evaluation of a New Course Introduced to the Curriculum at a Medical School in Poland in 2018 to 2019

Non-technical skills (NTS) are important skills in emergency medicine and should be a necessity even at the stage of medical studies. The aim of this study was to assess how increasing the number of non-technical skills hours influenced the results of non-technical competences among medical students. In this investigation, 296 Polish medical students in the sixth year at Medical College in Krakow, Poland were included in the study. The students were divided into two research groups: I in 2018 and II in 2019. The groups differed in the number of total hours that focused on non-technical skills, in 2018: 60 hr, and 2019: 120 total hours. Non-technical competencies were assessed at the Crisis Resource Management station using sudden cardiac arrest scenarios. In 2018, the median was 20 points and the average of the points obtained in this group was 19.53 points (SD 5.39 points). In 2019, the median was 26 points and the average of points was 25.07 points (SD 5.23 points). Students who had more non-technical skills classes (120 hr) scored more points on the OSCE exam than group I (60 hr) ( p &lt; .001). The median of points in non-technical competences depended on the number of teaching hours in which the main emphasis was on the development of these skills. This investigation demonstrates that more teaching hours dedicated to improving the non-technical skills of students corresponded to better results on the cardiopulmonary resuscitation scenarios.

Effectiveness of Blended Versus Traditional Refresher Training for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation: Prospective Observational Study.

Generally, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills decline substantially over time. By combining web-based self-regulated learning with hands-on practice, blended training can be a time- and resource-efficient approach enabling individuals to acquire or refresh CPR skills at their convenience. However, few studies have evaluated the effectiveness of blended CPR refresher training compared with that of the traditional method. This study investigated and compared the effectiveness of traditional and blended CPR training through 6-month and 12-month refresher sessions with CPR ability indicators. This study recruited participants aged ≥18 years from the Automated External Defibrillator Donation Project. The participants were divided into 4 groups based on the format of the CPR training and refresher training received: (1) initial traditional training (a 30-minute instructor-led, hands-on session) and 6-month traditional refresher training (Traditional6 group), (2) initial traditional training and 6-month blended refresher training (an 18-minute e-learning module; Mixed6 group), (3) initial traditional training and 12-month blended refresher training (Mixed12 group), and (4) initial blended training and 6-month blended refresher training (Blended6 group). CPR knowledge and performance were evaluated immediately after initial training. For each group, following initial training but before refresher training, a learning effectiveness assessment was conducted at 12 and 24 months. CPR knowledge was assessed using a written test with 15 multiple-choice questions, and CPR performance was assessed through an examiner-rated skill test and objectively through manikin feedback. A generalized estimating equation model was used to analyze changes in CPR ability indicators. This study recruited 1163 participants (mean age 41.82, SD 11.6 years; n=725, 62.3% female), with 332 (28.5%), 270 (23.2%), 258 (22.2%), and 303 (26.1%) participants in the Mixed6, Traditional6, Mixed12, and Blended6 groups, respectively. No significant between-group difference was observed in knowledge acquisition after initial training (P=.23). All groups met the criteria for high-quality CPR skills (ie, average compression depth: 5-6 cm; average compression rate: 100-120 beats/min; chest recoil rate: >80%); however, a higher proportion (98/303, 32.3%) of participants receiving blended training initially demonstrated high-quality CPR skills. At 12 and 24 months, CPR skills had declined in all the groups, but the decline was significantly higher in the Mixed12 group, whereas the differences were not significant between the other groups. This finding indicates that frequent retraining can maintain high-quality CPR skills and that blended refresher training is as effective as traditional refresher training. Our findings indicate that 6-month refresher training sessions for CPR are more effective for maintaining high-quality CPR skills, and that as refreshers, self-learning e-modules are as effective as instructor-led sessions. Although the blended learning approach is cost and resource effective, factors such as participant demographics, training environment, and level of engagement must be considered to maximize the potential of this approach. Mixed Reality versus Mass or Self-directed Training for Adolescents’ Basic Life Support Instruction: A Prospective, Randomized Pilot Study

Background: There is limited information about adolescents' Basic-Life-Support (BLS) training. Objectives: In this study, adolescents' BLS training proficiency and knowledge retention of the Mixed Reality (MR), Mass-Training (MT), and Self-Directed Learning (SDL) methods were prospectively compared, following the training-outcomes levels-model classification. Methods: First-year secondary-school students were randomized into the MR, MT, and SDL groups, and after baseline evaluation, at T0, they received congruent BLS theoretical and Cardiopulmonary-Resuscitation (CPR) training. Knowledge, skills retention, and trainees' training-activity self-evaluation were evaluated utilizing ten (knowledge) and five-items (self-evaluation) questionnaires, a BLS-sequence checklist, and chest compressions recording mannequin one and three months after T0. We used the Kruskal-Wallis test for median comparison. Results: At all times, the MR group knowledge answers' median (≥6/10) was significantly higher (p&lt;0.05) than groups MT and SDL (≤6/10), with no significant differences between the latter. The MR CPR skills and BLS checklist acquisition and retention were significantly superior (p&lt;0.05) to the other groups; the SDL group showed limited results. Hands position and chest recoil showed excellent outcomes in all groups and at all times. At all times, trainees positively evaluated the BLS-training importance. Pre-training low self-confidence in BLS practice improved over time, yet not significantly, in group MT. The trainees' majority (62%) preferred the MR method. Conclusion: In an adolescent cohort, MR methods' BLS/CPR knowledge and skills acquisition and retention were comparable, if not better, than the MT method and superior to the SDL one. Future multicenter randomized and controlled studies with larger sample sizes and more limited instructor-to-participant ratios are warranted to generalize findings.

Basic Life Support Training on Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation among Class IV employees working in Pravara Rural Hospital, Loni (Bk)

Background: Cardiovascular disease is one of the common public health problems in the world. The cardiac arrest individual needs immediate rescue care (CPR) to support and maintain breathing and circulation. The public and non-medical professionals lack awareness and skill in performing CPR may leads to withdrawal and faulty CPR technique. Aim: The aim of the present study was to assess the effectiveness of Basic life support training on knowledge and skill of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation among class IV employees and compare the knowledge and skill with their demographic variables. Methods: A quasi experimental study, pre-test and post-test design with control group approach was conducted among 30 Class IV employees working in Pravara Rural Hospital, Loni. The class IV employees above 18 years were selected using simple random sampling. Data was collected by pre designed structured questionnaire and checklist. The results were analyzed using descriptive (percent, mean and SD), inferential statistics (paired “t” test and Chi square test). Results: The result revealed that there was an improvement in the knowledge on CPR (pre-test mean score 11.93±2.79 and post test score was 16.97±3.43, with effectiveness of 16.8%. The difference between the scores was significant ‘t’= 11.39 at 0.05 level. The participants exhibited partially adaptive skill on CPR with mean score of 13.4±3.12, scores range from 1 to 20. The socio demographic variables like age and area of work were significantly associated with knowledge, and age was significantly associated with skill on CPR (P&lt;0.05). Conclusion: After the basic life support training there is a significant improvement in knowledge and skill on CPR by the class IV employees. This training can be used as standardized protocol for training the lay person on CPR which significantly contributes in reduction of mortality and morbidity.

Integrative virtual nursing simulation in teaching cardiopulmonary resuscitation: A blended learning approach

BackgroundOnline learning resources facilitated educational development during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study focuses on the integration of online virtual simulation with interactive exercises and offline low-fidelity simulation for the first time to explore the impact on CPR skills. MethodsFirst year nursing students from a medical college participated as volunteers in this study. They were divided randomly into two groups with both having a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) lesson with the same timings and objectives. The experimental group (n = 36) adopted a blended learning method, with virtual simulation and low-fidelity simulation as resources; the control group (n = 36) used the same method without virtual simulation. The same lecturers taught both classes. Students’ self-directed learning (SDL) and critical thinking skills were assessed before and after the intervention and their CPR skills were examined afterward. ResultsThe experimental group exhibited significantly greater improvement in their SDL abilities and CPR skills. By contrast, we found no statistical differences in their critical thinking abilities. ConclusionsDuring CPR training, blended learning method was used to integrate virtual nursing simulation in teaching, which effectively improved students' SDL and CPR skills.

Basic life support awareness among medical undergraduate students in Syria, Iraq, and Jordan: a multicenter cross-sectional study

Background and aimsBasic life support (BLS) training rates vary widely worldwide, and there is a general scarcity of surveys that assess students’ knowledge and awareness of BLS in middle eastern nations. This study aims to evaluate medical students’ knowledge and awareness towards basic life support.MethodsA cross-sectional study, using an online web-based questionnaire, assessing BLS awareness and knowledge, was conducted from 3 to 30 November 2021. The study included 2114 medical students from Syria, Iraq, and Jordan. The questionnaire consisted of three sections: demographic baseline characteristics, knowledge about BLS, and ability to apply basic life support. A binominal logistic regression was done between the total score and other demographic characteristics to determine if we could predict the research sample's appropriate knowledge of BLS level.ResultsThere was a moderate knowledge of BLS and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills among participating students with an average score of 19.67 (0–34). Seventy-eight of the participants (1656) stated that they have not attended a basic life support course. There was a significant difference between the participants from different countries, where the mean score in Syria, Jordan, and Iraq was 18.3, 24.3, and 18.8, respectively (p < 0.05). Considering the level of knowledge, 18.3%, 72.8%, and 8.9% of the participants had a high, intermediate, and low level, respectively. Furthermore, students who took a BLS course had a higher level of knowledge than those who did not, with an odds ratio of 5.168 (p value < 0.0001).ConclusionThe overall knowledge of medical students’ basic life support knowledge is insufficient and need to be greatly improved. According to this study, previous participation in basic life support training had a positive effect on knowledge level. As a result, universities must establish basic life support programs as quickly as possible.

Knowledge and Attitudes around First Aid and Basic Life Support of Kindergarten and Elementary School Teachers and Parents in Taif City, Saudi Arabia.

The foremost cause of children's (1-19 year) death is inadvertent injuries. While most of these accidental harms occur at home and school, rapid and suitable parental and teacher intervention is required to increase the chances of a child's survival. Therefore, both parents and teachers of the children in kindergarten and elementary school must be knowledgeable in first aid practice and basic life support (BLS) training. In the current study, our ambition is to evaluate the orientation level, knowledge, and attitudes around first aid and BLS training of kindergarten and elementary school teachers and parents in the city of Taif, Makkah region. A cross-sectional study in Taif, Saudi Arabia, targeted kindergarten and elementary school teachers and parents of students enrolled at these levels. There were 648 participants included in this study. The researchers assessed teachers' and parents' knowledge and attitudes around first aid and BLS using a validated, self-administered online questionnaire. The study included 648 participants, including 248 (38.3%) teachers and 400 (61.7%) parents. The socio-demographic analysis showed that 412 (63.6%) are females and 233 (36.5%) are between the ages of 36 and 45 years. Approximately 142 (21.9%) participants reported previous training in the cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) program, though more than half of them (53.5%) had outdated certificates (more than 2 years). The mean total knowledge for our study was 4.6 ± 1.4, with 22.4% of the participants being educated about first aid support and expressing a fair level of CPR foundations. Only a small percentage (2.3%) of the participants exposed a good and adequate theoretical level of knowledge around CPR skills and performance, while most of the contributors unveiled a poor level of knowledge (over 75%). There were no statistically significant differences between parents and teachers (p > 0.05). Finally, numerous participants (85%) appreciated training in the CPR program, and the most common motive was a "wish to avoid unnecessary death". We concluded that a sizable portion of the contributors expressed a lack of proficiency in the fundamental CPR training knowledge and skills, pointing to an alarming public concern. Promisingly, a sizable percentage of participants expressed motivated attitudes toward CPR training. Therefore, additional study and data are required to effectively combat injury, with an emphasis on investigating causes and risk factors, burden and socioeconomic health determinants, community awareness level and desire to contribute, and accessibility for disseminating specific intervention strategies.

Knowledge, attitude, and proficiency of healthcare providers in cardiopulmonary resuscitation in a public primary healthcare setting in Qatar.

Early and effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) increases both survival rate and post-cardiac arrest quality of life. This study aims to assess the current knowledge and ability of physicians and nurses in health centers (HCs) operated by the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) in Doha, Qatar, to perform CPR. This study consists of two parts. The first part is a descriptive cross-sectional survey using an online form targeting physicians and nurses working in all HCs to assess their CPR knowledge and attitude. The second part is a direct observation of CPR drills to evaluate the skills and competencies of code blue team members in a convenient sample of 14 HCs. A multivariate model was employed to test the independent effect of explanatory variables on the total knowledge score. A total of 569 physicians and nurses responded to the survey. Only one-half (48.7%) formally received training on basic life support within the last year. Furthermore, 62.7% have tried to revive a dying person with no pulse. All the participants recognize the importance of knowing how to revive a dying adult or child as part of their job. The study showed that being a nurse was the most important predictor of a higher knowledge score in both components. Attending more resuscitation courses (3-6 courses in the last 3 years) ranked second in importance, and a longer experience in clinical practice (5-10 and >10 years) ranked third in predictive power. In addition, the direct observation of CPR drill performance revealed a satisfactory outcome. The level of CPR knowledge and skills practice among healthcare providers in PHCC is deemed satisfactory as most providers reported having performed CPR in the past. Considering that PHCC is the first step to people's healthcare in Qatar, clinical staff should be certified and assessed regularly to ensure retention of resuscitation knowledge and skills.

CAPACITY BUILDING FOR FEMALE VOLUNTEERS: SRIKANDI OF EAST JAVA IN DISASTER PREPAREDNESS EFFORTS, CARDIAC ARREST FIRST AID WITH CPR

The importance and influence of female volunteerism Srikandi East Java in disaster relief is widely recognized to respond disaster preparedness. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) performed by bystanders is an essential treatment for sudden cardiac arrest. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is an emergency lifesaving procedure performed when the heart stops beating. The aim of community service is to improving knowledge and skills of CPR to female volunteers Srikandi East Java confidence to help their families, communities and people in need during disasters and emergencies. The method used in this community service activity is to provide training CPR and councelling cardiac arrest . This activity was carried out may 2023 which was attended by 80 female volunteers member of Srikandi East Java. The results show that the activity has achieved success according to the success indicators that have been set, namely as many as 80 female volunteers member of Srikandi East Java attendance is 100%, participants participate in activities enthusiastically, knowledge of CPR after training and counseling increases significantly. CPR drills should be done regularly so that many female bystanders are trained.&#x0D;

Publicly available online course as a promising tool for teaching and promoting first aid skills in cardiac arrest

Relevance. The probability of resuscitation in cardiac arrest depends on incident eyewitnesses’ ability to timely and correctly provide first aid to the victim. However, such skills require appropriate training. With poor availability of face-to-face training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), alternative training formats, including online e-learning, are gaining prominence to ensure widest dissemination of the life-saving competencies among general population.The objective is to study personal experience and attitudes among the individuals who completed the publicly available open online course on basic CPR (basic life support) skills in order to identify prospects and practical value of such online distance training aimed at CPR skills mainstreaming and better training availability.Methods. From July 2020 to August 2022, we conducted an anonymous survey among individuals who had completed the public open online course on basic life support training presented in Russian language. Our digital questionnaire included 16 questions designed to collect information on prior CPR training experience, training constraints, willingness to engage in volunteer teaching of CPR principles and respondent demographics. Data was analyzed using nonparametric statistics.Results and discussion. The analytical sample included 4342 respondents, mostly residents of Russia (81.1 %), including women (63.1 %), individuals aged under 40 y. (81.2 %), those without prior medical education (84.9 %), as well as schoolchildren and students (41.5 %). 44.2 % of respondents received no prior CPR training before the online course, mainly because they had been unaware of its practical value (39.4 % of respondents without CPR training experience) or had not known where to get trained (34.4 %). 76.3 % of respondents confirmed willingness to engage in volunteer teaching of CPR principles. Willingness to teach CPR to other individuals was related to prior experience of resuscitation training (the rate of respondents ready for CPR teaching was 77.5 % among those with prior resuscitation training and 74.9 % among those without such prior training, p = 0.043).Conclusion. Poor public awareness of CPR training importance and limited availability of training are the major constraints in acquiring life-saving knowledge and skills. As a publicly available tool for remote self-training, including within blended distant-classroom learning, the free online training course opens up great prospects for extensive mainstreaming of first aid skills, offering broad public coverage. The majority of online training graduates are willing to engage in volunteer CPR teaching, thus providing additional opportunities to increase availability of CPR training.
