Impact of Project Planning, Monitoring And Evaluation on the Sustainability of the Millennium Village Project in Pampaida, Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State Nigeria

The sustainability of a project refers to the capability of a project to retain its usage over the long term. The Millennium Village Project (MVP) in Pampaida was purposely initiated to alleviate over 70% of the populace from poverty. The study examined how project planning, monitoring and evaluation influenced its sustainability, adopting the participatory and the stakeholders’ theory with the involvement of donors, government, and the community people in achieving the set goals and objectives of the Project – poverty reduction. The study applied the mixed method research technique –qualitative leading and corroborated by quantitative. We selected 368 people from the community as respondents from the 28 settlements of Pampaida to provide us with the data through structured questionnaires, interviews, focused group discussions and systematic observations. The statistical tools used in the analysis were; simple percentages, frequency tables, mean, standard deviation, and the application of the SPSS version 26 for inferential statistics while using Linear Regression Technique to test the hypothesis. In the research, hypotheses were framed in null forms to address the objectives of the study and were tested statistically, which corroborated the use of thematic analysis of interviews and observations of the research. The study found that project planning, monitoring and evaluation were significant factors that positively affect the sustainability of MVP projects. Therefore, the study recommends that; the government prioritize effective, structured and comprehensive project planning to guide the project objectives. In terms of Project execution maintenance and support, feedback mechanism and capacity-building initiative, the community needs to establish committees to implement a robust and rigorous monitoring and evaluation system.

However, amidst this rapid expansion lies a plethora of Cyber Security (CS) risks within the Digital Economy (DE), ranging from hacker assaults to data breaches and intellectual property theft. The heightened importance of CS resonates across organizations, nations, and individuals worldwide. This study delves into the dynamics of development and expansion within the DE while concurrently addressing the looming threats to CS. Central to its analysis is the imperative of implementing efficient CS protocols, encompassing preventive measures, detection strategies, and swift response mechanisms against online threats. Moreover, the discourse extends to strategies for enhancing CS resilience through investments in infrastructure, capacity building initiatives, and public awareness campaigns, involving both corporate entities and governmental bodies. Furthermore, this research probes into the intricate interplay between cutting-edge technologies such as blockchain, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT) and their impact on CS. While these technologies hold immense potential to revolutionize the DE landscape, they concurrently introduce novel security vulnerabilities that malicious actors may exploit. In conclusion, the study underscores that while the DE offers boundless opportunities for development and innovation, robust CS measures stand as indispensable safeguards against online threats, ensuring the sustained viability and integrity of the sector in the long term.

Analyzing the effectiveness of energy aid for driving the transition towards energy decarbonization; Evidence from Asian developing countries

Environmental degradation poses a significant challenge in many developing countries, as they heavily rely on fossil fuels to drive economic activities. The transition towards renewable energy is crucial to mitigate ecological depletion, yet numerous Asian developing countries may struggle to achieve the desired levels of renewable energy adoption due to financial constraints. Foreign aid in the energy sector can expedite this transition process. This study aims to examine the impact of foreign aid on the energy decarbonization transition in 22 Asian developing countries from 2003 to 2022 to analyze its contributions and challenges to promote renewable energy adoption. This paper incorporates the two types of foreign aid in the energy sector (nonrenewable and renewable energy aid) provided by the OECD to developing economies. Utilizing the System-Generalized Method of Moments (Sys-GMM), the findings reveal that energy aid significantly contributes to the transition towards energy decarbonization by providing financial support for embracing renewable energy technologies. Specifically, the analysis indicates that a 1% increase in energy aid leads to approximately 3% enhancement in the decarbonization transition process. Moreover, this study adds to the existing body of knowledge by examining the mediating impact of human capital and financial development as well as the moderating effect of institutional quality and demand for clean fuel. These factors play a pivotal role in energy decarbonization transition by fostering financial development and enhancing human capital through capacity-building initiatives and facilitating the adoption of renewable energy technologies.

Exploring climate change adaptation strategies of crop and livestock farmers in urban Ghana

This study investigates the climate change adaptation strategies employed by urban crop and livestock farmers in Ghana. With the increasing recognition of climate change threats to agricultural productivity and food security, it is crucial to understand urban farmers’ adaptation strategies. Through a mixed-methods approach—surveys of 191 urban farming households using a questionnaire and interviews of 13 key informants using an interview guide, data were collected from farmers in urban Ghana. The quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics from the Statistical Package for Social Sciences and presented in tables. The qualitative data were analysed manually based on themes and content and presented in narratives. The results indicated a significant relationship between urban farmers’ educational status and gender and their sources of climate change adaptation information. Urban farmers’ climate change adaptation strategies include planting more improved and less indigenous crop varieties and rearing of more exotic and less local breeds of animals. Again, to buffer animal production against climatic diseases, urban farmers treat their animals through vaccination, giving animals pills, disinfecting pens, and spraying animals’ bodies with chemicals. Access to agricultural extension services is the main challenge in urban farmers’ climate change adaptation. The study underscores the importance of enhancing farmers’ resilience through targeted interventions, including capacity-building initiatives, access to climate information and financial resources, and the integration of climate-smart agricultural practices into urban planning and policy frameworks. In addressing these challenges and promoting adaptive strategies, urban crop and livestock farmers in Ghana can enhance their resilience to climate change and contribute to sustainable urban agriculture and food security. This study, therefore, contributes to the urban agriculture and climate change literature by drawing attention to how crop and animal farmers in the urban neighbourhood adapt to climatic stressors.

Clinical Practice Guidelines to Support Capacity Building in Orthopaedic Surgical Outreach: An International Consensus Building Approach.

Surgical outreach to low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) by organizations from high- income countries is on the rise to help address the growing burden of conditions warranting surgery. However, concerns remain about the impact and sustainability of such outreach. Leading organizations (e.g., the World Health Organization) advocate for a capacity-building approach to ensure the safety, quality, and sustainability of the local health-care system. Despite this, to our knowledge, no guidelines exist to inform such efforts. We aimed to develop clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) to support capacity-building in orthopaedic surgical outreach utilizing a multistakeholder and international voting panel. We followed a modified American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) CPG development process. We systematically reviewed the existing literature across 7 predefined capacity-building domains (partnership, professional development, governance, community impact, finance, coordination, and culture). A writing panel composed of 6 orthopaedic surgeons with extensive experience in surgical outreach reviewed the existing literature and developed a consensus-based CPG for each domain. We created an international voting panel of orthopaedic surgeons and administrators who have leadership roles in outreach organizations or hospitals with which outreach organizations partner. Members individually reviewed the CPGs and voted to approve or disapprove each guideline. A CPG was considered approved if >80% of panel members voted to approve it. An international voting panel of 14 surgeons and administrators from 6 countries approved all 7 of the CPGs. Each CPG provides recommendations for capacity-building in a specific domain. For example, in the domain of partnership, the CPG recommends the development of a documented plan for ongoing, bidirectional partnership between the outreach organization and the local team. In the domain of professional development, the CPG recommends the development of a needs-based curriculum focused on both surgical and nonsurgical patient care utilizing didactic and hands-on techniques. As orthopaedic surgical outreach grows, best-practice CPGs to inform capacity-building initiatives can help to ensure that resources and efforts are optimized to support the sustainability of care delivery at local sites. These guidelines can be reviewed and updated in the future as evidence that supports capacity-building in LMICs evolves.The global burden of disease warranting surgery is substantial, and morbidity and mortality from otherwise treatable conditions remain disproportionately high in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs)1,2. It is estimated that up to 2 million (about 40%) of injury-related deaths in LMICs could be avoided annually if mortality rates were reduced to the level of those in high-income countries (HICs)3. Despite this, progress toward improved access to safe, timely surgery in resource-poor areas has been slow. Historically, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) have tried to address unmet surgical needs through short-term outreach trips; however, growing criticism has highlighted the limitations of short-term trips, including limited follow-up, an increased burden on the local workforce, and further depletion of local resources4-6. In light of ongoing concerns, public health priorities have shifted toward models that emphasize long-term capacity-building rather than short-term care delivery. Capacity-building is an approach to health-care development that builds independence through infrastructure development, sustainability, and enhanced problem-solving while taking context into account7,8.

Integrating Water Management Practices with Modern Irrigation Technologies in Aalo, West Siang District, Arunachal Pradesh

This research addresses the imperative of harmonizing traditional water management practices with contemporary irrigation technologies to ensure sustainable water use in Aalo, West Siang District, Arunachal Pradesh. Given the pressing need to optimize water resources for agricultural pursuits while upholding environmental integrity and socio-economic progress, a multidisciplinary methodology is employed. Aalo faces multifaceted challenges such as water scarcity, erratic rainfall patterns, and escalating agricultural demands. While traditional water management methods have historically upheld agricultural livelihoods, the advent of modern irrigation technologies presents promising avenues for bolstering water efficiency, crop productivity, and sustainable development. Through a mixed-methods approach, including quantitative analysis, qualitative assessments, and participatory research methods, the study endeavors to comprehensively understand water management practices and irrigation technologies in Aalo. Surveys, interviews, and field observations will facilitate the assessment of traditional water management systems' efficacy in mitigating water scarcity and supporting agricultural productivity. Concurrently, the study will evaluate the adoption and impact of modern irrigation technologies on water use efficiency, crop yields, and socio-economic indicators in the region. Anticipated findings are poised to unveil synergies and prospects for integrating traditional wisdom with modern irrigation practices to fortify sustainability and resilience in water management. Consequently, the study will offer actionable recommendations targeted at policymakers, agricultural extension services, and local communities. These recommendations encompass preserving traditional water management systems, promoting the uptake of modern irrigation technologies, fostering knowledge exchange, capacity-building initiatives, and nurturing community engagement in water management endeavors. Through these initiatives, the research aims to foster a holistic approach towards sustainable water management practices in Aalo, poised at the nexus of traditional knowledge and contemporary innovation.

Strengthening Laboratory Systems for Ensuring Accurate Diagnoses in Mother-to-Child Transmission (MTCT) Prevention Programs in Uganda: A Narrative Review

Mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of HIV remains a significant public health challenge in Uganda, necessitating a focused examination of the state of laboratory systems to ensure accurate diagnoses and effective prevention. The aim of this narrative review is to assess the current state of laboratory systems supporting Mother-to-Child Transmission (MTCT) prevention programs in Uganda, identify challenges hindering accurate diagnoses, and propose strategies for strengthening these systems to enhance the effectiveness of MTCT prevention efforts. This narrative review explores the current landscape of laboratory infrastructure in Uganda, addressing challenges unique to the country and proposing strategies for improvement. The discussion encompasses the integration of molecular testing, the role of point-of-care diagnostics, the implementation of quality assurance programs, and capacity-building initiatives for laboratory personnel. Additionally, technological innovations and their applicability in the Ugandan context are explored, alongside the crucial aspect of integrating laboratory services into antenatal care. Drawing on global lessons, the review provides tailored recommendations for Uganda, spanning policy considerations, funding mechanisms, infrastructure enhancements, and workforce development. Looking towards the future, the review outlines potential collaborations, technological advancements, and strategic investments that can further fortify laboratory systems, ultimately contributing to the elimination of MTCT in Uganda.

Fiscal Devolution and Healthcare Accessibility A Case Study of Homa Bay County

Fiscal devolution has gained prominence as a policy approach in many developing countries, aiming to enhance healthcare accessibility. This study focused on the influence of Fiscal devolution on healthcare accessibility in Homabay County. The study employed a mixed-methods approach to assess the impact of fiscal devolution on public sector efficiency, combining quantitative data analysis and qualitative observations. With an emphasis on metrics like service quality, punctuality, and accessibility, quantitative data were gathered via questionnaires and administrative records. Key stakeholders, such as representatives of the local government, prominent members of the community, and recipients of services, were interviewed in-depth and participated in focus groups to get qualitative data. The data were analyzed using appropriate SPSS version 27 statistical techniques and thematic analysis to identify patterns and relationships. Results showed that fiscal devolution had both positive as well as negative effects on healthcare accessibility in Homabay County, underlining the importance of effective local government and resource allocation processes. Preliminary data indicate that fiscal devolution in Homabay County has had a mixed effect on healthcare accessibility. On one hand, decentralization has empowered local authorities to make decisions tailored to local needs, resulting in improved service responsiveness and community engagement. On the other hand, challenges related to inadequate financial resources, capacity constraints, and intergovernmental coordination have hindered the efficient delivery of public services. Effectiveness of fiscal devolution largely depends on the presence of effective local governance structures, transparent resource allocation mechanisms, and capacity building initiatives.

Infection prevention and control compliance during COVID-19 pandemic era: assessment of 26 regional referral hospitals in Tanzania

BackgroundInfection prevention and control (IPC) implementation at referral hospitals (RHs) in Tanzania is still inadequate, regardless of ongoing IPC capacity-building initiatives. This continues to challenge the quality of healthcare service provision as poor IPC implementation fuels healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) problems. The study aimed to describe the implementation of IPC practices in 26 Regional RHs’ functional units in 2021.MethodsThe study involved secondary data from an assessment conducted using the National IPC Standard checklist for hospitals to all functional units at 26 regional RHs in 2021. Data were analysed in STATA version 15.0 to compute the weighted median with interquartile range (IQR) for each functional unit score.ResultsThe overall weighted median IPC compliance with 26 regional RHs in 2021 was 50 (41–60), whereby the lowest and highest scores were 24 and 72%, respectively. The highest-performing unit was the intensive care unit (ICU) for adults 71.4% (46.4–78.6), and lowest performing functional units were the mortuary, Central Sterilization and Supply Department, and blood transfusion [47.4% (36.8–57.9), 47.4% (40–50), and 47.6% (38.1–61.9)], respectively.ConclusionImplementation of IPC practices in 26 RHs in Tanzania is inadequate. We recommend that RHs need to strengthen IPC practices implementation in each functional unit in order to reach the required target of at least 80% score. This will enhance the reduction of the burden of HAIs and AMR, and increase the energy and morale of healthcare workers in preparedness and response to emerging and remerging diseases.

A critical evaluation of DC microgrid implementation in Indonesia: opportunities and challenges

This study thoroughly investigates the potential of direct current (DC) microgrids to enhance electricity access in rural and remote areas of Indonesia that continue to face significant obstacles despite ongoing national electrification efforts. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, this research comprehensively evaluates socio-economic and technical factors that influence the adoption of DC microgrids. The results indicate that DC microgrids offer significant potential for enhancing energy access, reliability, and sustainability, particularly when combined with renewable energy sources. This aligns with Indonesia’s move towards renewable energy. Nevertheless, the analysis identifies significant obstacles, such as the substantial initial investment, the requirement for complete regulatory frameworks, and the technological complexities that need to be conquered. In conclusion, DC microgrids present a promising solution for rural electrification. However, the implementation requires a strategy that emphasizes strategic investments, policy innovation, and capacity-building initiatives. This research significantly contributes to the study of sustainable energy by evaluating the criticality of integrating policies and technology for implementing DC microgrids as a key factor in achieving sustainable energy access in Indonesia.

Impact of Trade Policies, Tariffs, and Sanitary and Phytosanitary Regulations on International Livestock Trade and Market Access for Livestock Producers in Brazil

Purpose: The aim of the study was to evaluate impact of trade policies, tariffs, and sanitary and phytosanitary regulations on international livestock trade and market access for livestock producers in Brazil. Methodology: This study adopted a desk methodology. A desk study research design is commonly known as secondary data collection. This is basically collecting data from existing resources preferably because of its low cost advantage as compared to a field research. Our current study looked into already published studies and reports as the data was easily accessed through online journals and libraries. Findings: it's evident that trade policies, including tariffs and non-tariff measures, significantly influence bilateral trade flows in livestock products. Reductions in tariffs generally lead to increased trade, while increases in tariffs have the opposite effect, demonstrating the importance of tariff liberalization for stimulating trade and enhancing market access. Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: Theory of comparative advantage & new trade theory may be used to anchor future studies on impact of trade policies, tariffs, and sanitary and phytosanitary regulations on international livestock trade and market access for livestock producers in Brazil. Enhance capacity-building initiatives and technical assistance programs for developing countries to improve SPS compliance and facilitate trade in livestock products, thereby promoting inclusive trade practices. Negotiate comprehensive regional trade agreements (RTAs) that address trade facilitation measures, infrastructure development, and regulatory harmonization to maximize the benefits of market integration for the livestock sector.

Disaster Management and Emergency Response: Improving Coordination and Preparedness

Disasters pose significant challenges to communities worldwide, necessitating effective disaster management and emergency response systems. This study aims to evaluate current practices in disaster management and emergency response, focusing on enhancing coordination and preparedness. Through qualitative analysis, including literature review and library research, this study assesses existing strategies and identifies areas for improvement. The findings underscore the importance of robust coordination mechanisms among various stakeholders involved in disaster management, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and community groups. Moreover, the study highlights the critical role of preparedness measures in mitigating the impact of disasters and facilitating timely and effective response efforts. By synthesizing insights from existing literature and case studies, this research provides valuable recommendations for enhancing disaster management and emergency response frameworks. The results emphasize the need for comprehensive planning, capacity-building initiatives, and the integration of technology to strengthen resilience and response capabilities. Furthermore, the study underscores the significance of community engagement and public awareness campaigns in fostering a culture of preparedness and resilience. Overall, this research contributes to the ongoing discourse on disaster risk reduction and emergency management by offering insights into improving coordination and preparedness strategies in the face of natural and man-made disasters.

Fundamentals of the development of innovation and investment activities of small and medium-sized businesses in Kazakhstan

It discusses the challenges faced by SMEs in accessing finance, technology, and markets, which often hinder their ability to innovate and invest effectively. Moreover, the article delves into the regulatory and institutional frameworks governing SMEs in Kazakhstan, examining the policies and initiatives aimed at fostering a conductive environment for innovation and investment. It explores government support programs, tax incentives, and regulatory reforms designed to stimulate SME growth and entrepreneurship. Furthermore, the paper explores the importance of fostering collaboration and partnerships between SMEs, larger enterprises, research institutions, and government agencies to promote innovation and investment. It discusses the role of industry clusters, innovation hubs, and incubators in facilitating knowledge exchange, networking, and access to resources for SMEs. The article also examines the role of education and skills development in enhancing the innovative capacity of SMEs in Kazakhstan. Perspectives on the state of cleft lip and cleft palate patient care in Africa.

As the most common congenital craniofacial defect, patients with cleft lip -palate (CLP) experience morbidity and social stigma, particularly in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs) such as those of sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Delays in treatment secondary either to lack of awareness, skills, equipment and consumables; poor health infrastructure, limited resources or a combination of them, has led to SSA having the highest rates of death and second highest rates of disability-adjusted life years in patients with CLP globally. Here we review current perspectives on the state of comprehensive cleft lip and palate repair in Africa. To bridge gaps in government health services, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) have emerged to provide care through short-term surgical interventions (STSIs). These groups can effect change through direct provision of care, whereas others strengthen internal system. However, sustainability is lacking as there continue to be barriers to achieving comprehensive and longitudinal cleft care in SSA, including a lack of awareness of CLP as a treatable condition, prohibitive costs, poor follow-up, and insufficient surgical infrastructure. With dedicated local champions, a comprehensive approach, and reliable partners, establishing sustainable CLP services is possible in countries with limited resources. The replacement of CLP 'missions' with locally initiated, internationally supported capacity building initiatives, integrated into local healthcare systems will prove sustainable in the long-term.

The effect of carbon farming training on food security and development resilience in Northern Ghana

ABSTRACT Carbon farming has recently been advocated for as climate change and variability mitigation and/or adaptation strategy in global agriculture. In this study, we address an important research question of whether carbon farming training can improve household resilience capacity as well as food security by employing internationally standardized indicators. Household resilience capacity and its components are measured using the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO)’s resilience capacity index while the food security measures used include household and child food insecurity experience scale (FIES and CFIES), food consumption score (FCS) and household dietary diversity score (HDDS). We relied on doubly robust treatment effect estimators to account for potential selection bias and heterogeneity. We find that carbon farming training has no statistically significant effect on overall household resilience capacity. However, we find a large and statistically significant effect on key components of resilience (specifically, access to basic services, assets and social safety nets) and a marginal improvement in adaptive capacity. We also find statistically significant effect on FCS and HDDS but not for the other food security indicators (FIES and CFIES). Overall, the results suggest that agricultural training programs, particularly climate change adaptation capacity building initiatives, could improve important welfare measures in developing countries.

Cultural assimilation of adult Syrian refugees in Lebanon: Effect modification by religiosity and sex on the relation between cultural adversities and common mental health disorders.

In this study, we aimed to explore the prevalence and determinants of common mental health disorders (CMHDs, posttraumatic stress disorder [PTSD], depression, and anxiety) in Syrian refugees in Lebanon. Specifically, we examined how the associations between cultural adversities (discrimination, unemployment, and separation from family) and CMHDs are modified by levels of religiosity and sex. Between March and June 2017, a cross-sectional study was conducted targeting adult Arab Syrian refugees residing in Beirut and Southern Lebanon. Eligibility criteria comprised being a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees-registered Syrian refugee residing in Lebanon, 18 years and older, and having no history of mental disorder or physical disability. A total of 191 refugees agreed to participate and complete a battery of six questionnaires. Exposures were measured using a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Postmigration Living Difficulties Checklist, the Harvard Trauma Questionnaire, and the Belief into Action Scale, while outcomes were measured using the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Checklist for DSM-5 and the Depression and Anxiety Scale-21 Items. Half (50.3%) of our sample had high PTSD risk, 73.8% had high depression risk, and 73.8% had high anxiety risk. Stratified analysis revealed religiosity and sex to be effect modifiers of the associations between cultural adversities and CMHDs. Specifically, cultural adversities were only significantly associated with CMHDs in the low religiosity stratum and males. Only unemployment was a significant risk factor for PTSD in both males (OR = 4.53, 95% CI [1.44, 14.27]) and females (OR = 2.77, 95% CI [1.14, 6.74]). Religiosity and sex are effect modifiers of the associations between cultural adversities and CMHDs. Religious and spiritual interventions in mental health care should be adopted in refugee settings. Moreover, there is an urgent need for capacity-building initiatives addressing social determinants of mental health among Syrian refugees in Lebanon. Sustaining Community-Based Research in Computing: Lessons from Two Tech Capacity Building Initiatives for Local Businesses

The field of human-computer interaction (HCI) has traditionally focused on the design of novel technology artifacts. However, ensuring considerations for artifact maintenance and repair is crucial to sustainably supporting the populations they aim to serve over the long term. Drawing on two multi-year programs for tech capacity building in post-industrial U.S. cities, this article presents a comparative analysis to investigate the challenges and strategies for sustained community-based research in computing. In particular, our work detailed three considerations for academic-community partnerships. First, long-term partnerships prioritized transferring trust across academic and community personnel and continually set expectations that responded to evolving community initiatives (i.e., relational sustainability). Second, partnerships used academic support as a way to kickstart community initiatives, and flexibly reframed interventions to stay aligned with evolving community goals (i.e., economic sustainability). Third, partnerships trained personnel to provide technical support alongside interventions and prioritized advice that resisted short-term trends (i.e., technical sustainability). We provide concrete examples of how our two academic-community partnerships carried out such suggestions-such details go unreported in scholarly articles yet are essential for sustainability considerations. We discuss ongoing challenges, such as rethinking when longevity should and should not be the end goal.

Capacity building within urban climate resilience in the Global South – a literature review

Capacity building for urban climate resilience is essential for strengthening both cities’ own capacities and multilevel governance, which are instrumental for the successful operationalisation of the Paris Agreement. Strengthening the capacities for planning, managing, and developing cities is required to support an urban resilient transition in a context of high complexity and uncertainty, especially in the Global South. The main objective for this article is to investigate the differences in understanding of capacity building in urban climate resilience in the Global South through literature review. Specifically, this paper investigates the main approaches, aspects, components, and end users for capacity building in the frame of urban climate resilience. The article identifies a set of Capacity Building Parameters and Enabling Factors which are Purpose, Transformative Capacity, Multi-actor, Participation, Knowledge and Learning, Transdiciplinarity as well as Data and Finance. The Capacity Building Parameters and Enabling Factors can serve as a basis to develop an analytical framework to assess existing capacity building initiatives and to support the development of new capacities for planning, management and developing cities for an urban resilient transition.

Capacity Building Initiatives for the Informally Trained Mechanics on the Repairs and Servces of Modern Motor Vehicles for Sustaining Service Workshops in Nsukka, Nigeria

As a result of the complexity of the innovative technologies embedded in the modern motor vehicles components, systems, sub-systems and because of the increasing sensitivity in technology transfer which has consequently facilitate the assimilation and adaptation of technology, has posed a challenge to the informally trained motor vehicle mechanics in the repairs and services of modern motor vehicles which suffice the need to ameliorate their capacity building needs. The study was therefore design to identify areas of the modern motor vehicles components, systems and sub-systems where the mechanics requires capacity and proffering some capacity building initiatives for coping with the challenges of the innovative technologies in modern motor vehicles for sustaining service workshops. Two research questions were stated in line with the specific purpose of the study. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population for the study is 150 comprising the master craftsmen, journey-men and apprentices in the informal sector of motor vehicle repair and service workshops. A thirty two (32) items questionnaire was developed from an extensive review of literature on the different areas of modern motor vehicles components, systems, sub-systems, and proffered capacity building initiates for coping with the challenges of the innovative technologies in modern motor vehicles for sustaining service workshops. Three experts from the department of Industrial Technical Education, University of Nigeria, Nsukka with stress in Automobile Technology validated the instrument. Cronbach Alpha reliability method was used to determine the internal consistency of the instrument. A reliability coefficient of 0.88 was obtained. The data were analyzed using the mean and standard deviation. It was found out that eighteen (18) questionnaire items were considered as the different areas of modern motor vehicles components, systems, sub-systems, where the mechanics requires capacity and fourteen (14) questionnaire items were also considered as the proffered capacity building initiates for coping with the challenges of the innovative technologies in modern motor vehicles for sustaining service workshops. It was therefore recommended that stakeholders should implement the capacity building initiates for coping with the challenges of the innovative technologies in modern motor vehicles such as, given incentives or remunerations/ wages, the master craftsmen should be encouraged to embark on training to widen or broaden his knowledge on innovations in automobile and transfer same to his apprentices for sustaining service workshops.

Green Procurement Adoption and Environmental Sustainability: A Study of Public Sector Organizations in South Africa

Purpose: The aim of the study was to investigate the green procurement adoption and environmental sustainability: a study of public sector organizations in South Africa. Methodology: This study adopted a desk methodology. A desk study research design is commonly known as secondary data collection. This is basically collecting data from existing resources preferably because of its low cost advantage as compared to a field research. Our current study looked into already published studies and reports as the data was easily accessed through online journals and libraries. Findings: The study on green procurement adoption in South Africa's public sector indicates a growing awareness and implementation of environmentally sustainable practices. While progress is evident, challenges such as resource constraints persist. Nevertheless, embracing green procurement holds promise for substantial environmental benefits and cost savings. Efforts should focus on further promoting and supporting the adoption of these practices to enhance sustainability in the public sector. Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: Institutional theory, diffusion of innovations theory & resource dependence theory may be used to anchor future studies on the green procurement adoption and environmental sustainability: a study of public sector organizations in South Africa. Public sector organizations should invest in capacity-building initiatives to enhance the knowledge and skills of procurement professionals in green procurement practices. Advocate for the development and enforcement of mandatory green procurement regulations and standards by government authorities.
