Software Quality Management of Small Outsourcing Companies Based on CMMI Model

The development of outsourcing companies is stimulated by the digital trend of the industry and the penetration of digital technology.They are striving to adapt to industry application scenarios,and improving software quality has become the focus of outsourcing companies.This paper takes small outsourcing companies as the research object,adopts the Capability Maturity Model Integration(CMMI)model to conduct a comprehensive design for continuous improvement of the outsourcing company’s business processes,and evaluates software quality maturity capabilities through expert scoring methods,and selects some key areas as indicators to build the model and the maturity ability level is determined.Taking the general business process of the small outsourcing company as a benchmark,comprehensively evaluate its main key domain indicators,and analyze the improved maturity level as IV,which provides a constructive basis for the small outsourcing company to further improve the software quality.

WAYS TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF THE PROCESS OF DEVELOPMENT OF SOFTWARE BASED ON MODELS OF MATURITY

The basic evolution stages of the product and services quality concept are briefly discussed starting with the Taylor’s system concept total quality management TQM (Total Quality Management). Given the universal nature of the ISO-9000standardseries, they were applied in the field of software engineering. The ways of the quality improvement of the software development process (DP software) are considered on the basis of maturity models. The two main maturity models are: CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) and SPICE (Software Process Improvement and Capability dEtermination). CMMI is implemented in two versions - discrete and continuous. The first one corresponds to the concept of "maturity level," and the second - to the "opportunity level". The assessment of the current state of the DP software organization and individual focus areas relate respectively to these concepts. In contract to the CMMI model, the SPICE maturity model is implemented in only one version - continuous presentation. This model defines only the concept of "opportunity level" of individual processes. The equivalent of the focus area of the CMMI model is the concept of the SPICE model process which consists of certain operations. The main disadvantage of the CMMI model is that it does not specify a software developer’s organization. On the other hand, when using the SPICE model in relation to an individual process, experts may use the following information: project management methodology; model of the life cycle of DP software; features of the subject area; organization goals. On the basis of the considered structure and the comparative analysis of these models, their individual properties were identified, which made it possible to define the ways of DP software maturity improvement. The main of these are: the formalization of maturity models; the development of mathematical models for increasing the level of maturity of both individual processes and the whole DP software; creating a discrete maturity model based on SPICE; using the methodology of collective expert assessment of the initial state of individual focus areas of the SMMI model and the processes of the SPICE model.

Diagnosis platform development of partial discharge data based on CMMI model

Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) model is an international standard in software development process and quality management. It integrates the idea of project management body of knowledge and total quality management. Through continuous process improvement for CMMI model, a flexible, regular and progressive capability model framework is established to increase the transparency and controllability of project management and improve the overall effectiveness of software development, which not only ensures software quality, but also solves the bottleneck of traditional project management applied in information technology (IT) industry. This paper presents the analysis and application of CMMI in partial discharge data diagnosis platform, which illustrates its outstanding capability of IT project management. CMMI model make the process manageable and measurable so that the main factors that lead to poor quality and low productivity can be controlled or eliminated.

Capability/maturity based model for logistics processes assessment

Purpose– The purpose of this paper is to study how a general standardized processes assessment capability/maturity model, such as Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI), can be combined to a standardized benchmark of logistics processes best practices, such as FD X50-604, to propose a new approach that evaluates logistics processes capability/maturity.Design/methodology/approach– First, an analysis study of CMMI model and X50-604 standard is performed. In order to prove their coherence, a deep comparative analysis of CMMI and X50-604 practices is conducted. As illustration, the paper focuses on a particular application of this approach to evaluate capability/maturity of distribution logistics activities. An industrial case study that aims the validation of this particular application is finally conducted in a furniture company.Findings– The authors estimate that the paper findings provide an operational guide for industrials to evaluate their distribution processes that is a practical, verifiable, repeatable and extensible to other logistics process areas and an interesting opportunity to evolve the standard FD X50-604 regarding CMMI requirements to assess capability/maturity of logistics processes.Originality/value– In general, the few capability/maturity-driven models analyzed in literature present some limits that do not allow their diffusion in the industrial level, especially in logistics. This study proposes a new approach based on standards that provide an operational guide for industrials to evaluate their distribution processes based on capability/maturity concept.

Process mining support for Capability Maturity Model Integration‐based software process assessment, in principle and in practice

ABSTRACTCurrently used software process improvement methods such as the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) rely in their process assessments on information, which is gathered during interviews, in oral audit sessions, and from quality manuals and process standard reviews. Although valuable information about software processes can be gained in these assessments, the resulting data quality can be improved upon. This paper investigates the potential of process mining to support current software process assessment and improvement approaches. Based on an analysis of CMMI from a process mining perspective, particular CMMI model components are identified for which it is in principle possible to apply process mining techniques. Subsequently, criteria have been defined to select, with respect to these particular CMMI components, software processes for which process mining has an added value. These criteria have been applied in the selection of a particular ‘minable’ software process, that is, a change control process. Subsequently, the results of a case study from industrial practice, on the process mining of a change control board process, are used to illustrate that process mining can provide CMMI assessors with relevant information. This information reflects the actual or ‘real’ software processes in practice, and as such, it offers an excellent basis to support assessors in understanding the ‘actual’ software processes. Organising, valuing and improving the engineering design process

Research for improving the design process (DP) has become crucial in new work organisations. Today, projects involve more and more activities and work groups which must be efficiently coordinated. In this paper, a method for structuring cooperative activities in order to improve its global performance is proposed. This methodological approach is based on matrix modelling and graph theory to represent and to structure information dependencies and can be used to specify collaborative frameworks like Web technology environments. Knowledge of a specific DP depends on acquired experience in relatively similar projects. That is why we refer in this work to standards like ISO 9001 requirements and capability maturity model integration (CMMI). CMMI models are collections of best practices that help organisations to improve their processes. Classical methods decompose a project into several work groups which are then scheduled. This first decomposition level is supplemented with a more detailed structuring level in order to control the size of the working teams. The steps of the DP being defined and planned, the responsibilities inside the working groups are specified. Finally, the method proposes to identify the coupled pairs of actors who generate the best interface for the effectiveness of the cooperative work.

Research on Quality Measuring of CMMI Cyclic Implementation in Software Process

Based on the specific elements in terms of process area, project, practice and relevant methodologies, which were adopted from Capability Maturity Model Integration(CMMI), this paper studied feasible appraisal program that combined the CMMI implementation cycle model into entire software process, therefore, the index system and measurement model in measuring the quality of software developing process were built and the barrier of CMMI model could only be used in enterprise CMMI certification was broken down.

E‐government maturity model using the capability maturity model integration

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to propose a framework for assessing the maturity level of electronic government (e‐government).Design/methodology/approachThe conceptual framework is based on two models: the intellectual capital (IC) management and the capability maturity model integration (CMMI).FindingsThe framework is composed of four input areas (human capital, structural capital, relational capital, and IT investment) and five maturity stages (web presence, interaction, transaction, integration, and continuous improvement). These areas are assessed by using the IC management model and the CMMI model. Employing the IC management process enables not only practitioners to effectively manage resources, but also auditors to more objectively assess the input area. Using the CMMI model allows governments to conduct process‐based assessments.Originality/valueThe paper contributes to the literature and practice in the following ways. First, it outlines how to define and assess key attributes of e‐government activities. It can help governments to enhance the awareness and understanding of maturity levels of e‐government. Second, this research expands the scope of current studies on a maturity model by providing a balanced view between input factors (resources) and results (maturity stages). For practitioners, assessing the input factors enables them to realize how to prioritize strategies and resources. For academics, this attempt sheds light on the concepts of IC in e‐government studies. Third, considering the CMMI model will be helpful to conduct an objective and useful assessment. On the basis of a matrix for assessing maturity levels, governments can conduct self‐assessment and establish stable and mature implementation processes.

Descriptive Analysis of a Level 2 Implementation Process of the CMMI Model in a Regional Software Devel­opment Company

CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) is basically a continu­ous-improvement inspired model to classify software development organizations according to a five-level maturity and capability scale. The classification in a given level is based on the dominance that an organization shows evidence to have over the areas of that level, which in turn reflects the degree of maturity of the organization and of the processes that it follows to develop software. This article presents a preliminary descriptive analysis of a level 2 implementation process of the CMMI model in a Colombian software devel­opment company, making an overall presentation of how it was brought into practice the theory of the model in the processes of the company, to be compliant with the conditions, goals and practices defined in the level 2 process areas of the model. The arti­cle also describes the problems which arose in the execution of the project, as well as how they were solved. As preliminary results are presented some of the indicators defined by the company for the software processes, and the software tools that were ac­quired or developed for the support of the implementation of the process areas. Finally, some conclusions and recommendations which can be found of use and application are given for similar projects.

Research and application of software measurement process for CMMI

This paper introduced a Goal-Regulations-Data-Result (GREDR) process framework of software measurement for Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) in order to help the organization implement the software measurement that conforms to the CMMI model. From the result of the trial in our organization, the software measurement process can be accomplished through the framework systematically. At the same time, it can assist on the plan for measurement and improve the final effect.

Selection priority of process areas based on CMMI continuous representation

An essential decision that must be made by software organizations that adopt the continuous representation of the capability maturity model integration (CMMI) for software process improvement concerns a suitable path that best meets their business objectives and mitigates the organization's risk. However, the CMMI models released by the Software Engineering Institute do not give their adopters any guidance on how to make such a decision. Thus, managers often make subjective selections of the areas in which to implement process improvement. Our study presents a decision support model that assists managers in determining the priorities of the CMMI process areas based on the characteristics of the is being developed. The proposed model was validated by using the ISBSG repository, and an example is presented to demonstrate the application of the model. Given the fact that hardly any research has yet been done on how to select the CMMI process areas to initialize process improvement, this study provides a starting point for the community in considering this important issue.

3 CMMI and Systems Engineering

AbstractIn late 1999 the systems engineering community will be presented with a new process maturity model produced by the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) project. The immediate significance to systems engineers is that the new model offers, for the first time, strong integration and consistency with the Software CMM (SW‐CMM v2). Organizations can choose to use one or more of several highly integrated models – a Systems Engineering CMM, a Software CMM and a Systems + Software CMM.Organizations can further choose to use a continuous or a staged version of each model and be assured of equivalent content. This paper describes the relationship of the new CMMI models to the recently completed EIA/IS 731, Systems Engineering Capability Model, and the potential impacts to systems engineering process appraisal and improvement. An overview of the CMMI models and terminology is provided as a basis for describing the relation to the EIA/IS 731
