An exact calculation of the N2+ and H2+ influx at cathode surface in N2–H2 discharges

An exact calculation of N2+ and H2+ influx, at cathode surface in N2–H2 discharge, has been derived using electron impact ionization cross-section at plasma sheath boundary. The analytical formula is very convenient in practical applications. Through the analysis of experimental parameters for glow discharge plasma nitriding, the formula explains, why treatment in an N2–H2 mixture with H2 percentage ∼70% gives most enhanced result.

Orbital binding effect in molecular orbital theory

Based on the virial theorem and the virial function, a description of the orbital binding effect and the definition of orbital bond order are developed within the framework of molecular orbital theory for both diatomic and polyatomic molecules. Orbital binding effect calculations for N2, CH4, C2H4, C2H2, and C4H4 molecules show that the definition is reasonable. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

The semiclassical approximation in the local theory of resonance inelastic interaction of slow electrons with molecules

The semiclassical approach is developed to calculate the cross sections of vibrational excitation and dissociative attachment for diatomic molecules within the framework of the 'boomerang model'. The cross sections are shown to factorise in this approximation. This feature results from the fact that processes proceed via two stages-capture of the incident electron into an intermediate state and the decay of this state. The formulae obtained reveal the energy dependence of the cross sections on the parameters of the system. Numerical calculations for N2, CO, H2, HD and D2 confirm the high accuracy of the method.
