Assessing the Status and Challenges of Sole Proprietor Garment Businesses: Insights for Operational Enhancement

A sole proprietorship is without a doubt, the simplest form of business organization. Garment business on the other hand is considered as one of the most popular ventures among women entrepreneurs in the Philippines. This study aimed to determine the status, issues and concerns of sole garment business in Taguig City to serve as basis for a proposal towards enhanced operations. It also attempted to determine the issues and concerns encountered in women entrepreneurs and their employees in the course of running the business. The descriptive method of research was used and it involved twelve (12) proprietors and fifty (50) employees as respondents. The data were analyzed and interpreted using the frequency, percentage, weighted mean and t-test. Results revealed that the respondents strongly agree on objective of the sole garment business, personnel, capital investments, operations requirements, wages and benefits, and supply of raw materials as vital factors for enhanced operations of sole garment business. The null hypothesis that there is no significant difference between the perceptions of the proprietors and employees on the status of sole garment business was accepted when it came to personnel, capital investments, operations requirements and wages and benefits. However, such null hypothesis was rejected when it came to objectives, raw materials supply, and equipment. As to issues and concerns encountered in sole garment business, the need for technologically advanced equipment came first, management style was ranked second, keeping up with fast fashion trend came in third while supply of raw materials was ranked fourth and inadequacy of business capitals came in the fifth rank.

Factors Affecting Personal Attitude of Undergraduate Agricultural Students to Start a Business

This study investigates the relationship between access to resources, subjective norms sociocultural forces; and the personal attitude of undergraduate agricultural students towards establishing a business. This relationship was looked at from a family-business status viewpoint. Data was collected from students of the six universities in South Africa registered for various agricultural programmes. Data analysis was computed using SPSS version 29. The study confirmed that subjective norms and sociocultural forces predict personal attitude towards starting a business, but not access to resources. The moderating role of family business status was not statistically significant for all factors. However, undergraduate agricultural students' access to resources and family business status relationships from families not owning a business were statistically significant. A significant relationship was also found between subjective norms and the family business status of agricultural students. The entrepreneurial syllabus should expose students to these extrinsic factors, as this shapes their attitude towards engaging in entrepreneurship. A positive personal attitude will likely lead to business establishment. Farming and entrepreneurship can address youth unemployment, employment creation, economic growth, and fighting poverty. Entrepreneurship is influenced by access to resources; however, agricultural students aren't finding it significant. Therefore, entrepreneurial education is essential for students to gain knowledge of this important business start-up factor.

Age Management Practices and Benefits in Organisation: An Evaluation of the Effect of Economic Sector, Organisation Size, and Family Business Status

Abstract Background The ageing of the population impacts all areas and is also a challenge for human resources management. To solve this issue, age management practices are used in organisations. To get the best potential out of everyone, this concept should not only involve older employees but should be focused on all of them. Choosing the right practice to get the desired results is a task for managers. Objectives The paper aims to determine whether the sector of the economy, the size of the organisation, or the family business status plays a role in determining age management practices and observed benefits. Methods/Approach Using a questionnaire survey, the most commonly used practices and the observed benefits were identified. Using the chi-square test, differences in chosen categories were confirmed. Results It can be stated that choosing age management practices is influenced by the economic sector, and the size of the organisation influences observed benefits. Conclusions The results can guide organisations on which practices to choose and what benefits to expect from implementing age management practices.

Sir William Burrell: An Artful Politician

This article discusses the political career of Sir William Burrell (1861–1958) as a Conservative party councillor for Glasgow's Exchange ward (1899–1906) and focuses on the years 1899–1901, in three overlapping arenas: the 1899 municipal elections in which Burrell began his career; Glasgow's civic and business status as the second city of the British empire; and the 1901 international exhibition. By examining Burrell as a skilful operator in all three contexts simultaneously, this article presents him for the first time not only as a powerful Glaswegian businessman who collected art, but also as an adroit politician who exploited both his business success and his curatorial expertise for the benefit of the Conservative and Liberal Unionist cause in the city. His administration and curation of the international exhibition in the new Kelvingrove galleries allowed the dominant Unionist group to present itself to millions of visitors. Burrell's art collection is thus demonstrated to be an important political source.

Foreign business presence and local entrepreneurship development: evidence from China

Does the entry of foreign-invested enterprises (FIEs) enhance host economies’ entrepreneurship? Empirical findings in the literature are far from conclusive because of diverse local conditions. This article investigates the effect of FIEs on local private business creation in China. Using a panel dataset of 31 provinces from 1992 to 2019 and two-way fixed effect models, this study finds that the entry of foreign-invested firms significantly enhances China’s provincial-level entrepreneurship. The effect is robust to various sets of control variables and different measurements of FIEs (either FDI stock or flow). The findings also suggest that the effect of FIEs on local entrepreneurship is lower in the second subperiod (2001–2019) than in the first subperiod (1992–2001). Moreover, the improved legal status of private businesses and better protection of private property, as amended in the Constitution, decrease the role of FIEs in enhancing local entrepreneurship.

SEMANTIC DYNAMICS OF BUSINESS IN STYLISTICS OF SOCIAL COMMUNICATION

The article is devoted to the linguistic and stylistic motivation of the "business" nature in the time and space of culture. The research idea regarding the need for professional analysis of the evolution of business is formulated and argued: from the primary meaning of the word to the modern one, which reflects the values and priorities of the development of the modern world, verbalized as a result of active processes of literary language development. The functioning of "business" concept in heterogeneous communicative fragments — in the structure of word combinations and fixed expressions — is studied, which explains the nature and scope of its application and the effective expediency of its use in multilingual contexts. The status of business in the language consciousness of society and the general state of business activity are considered through a diachronic comparison of the semantics of the term "business" in general language dictionaries of different editions. Therefore, attention is focused on common and professional definitions of the concept of business, their features and differences. For the dynamics of the objectivity of stylistic studies of business communication, it is determined that it is relevant to characterize the nature of business as a phenomenon, its strategies and tactics, which appear as systematized communicative intentions of speakers and determine effective models of their verbal interaction in this area. At this stage, we consider such tasks to be promising for further research, since business linguistics aspectology is projected onto the system of current issues that determine the vectors of development of national linguistics. Taking into account the development of multimedia technologies, which today actively affect all spheres of public communication, determine the dynamic nature of their functional and stylistic adaptation to the priorities and values of the mass audience, the task of the research perspective of creating and implementing an effective functional model of business communication, in particular, in the media space, was formulated.

<p align="justify">UMKM Fake Nail Art located at Jalan Raya Klareyan RT 04/01, Desa Klareyan, Kecamatan Petarukan, Kabupaten Pemalang, transforms plain fake nail art into beautiful, high-quality pieces that enhance the appearance of the wearer's fingers. The goal of this initiative is to support business development at UMKM by identifying existing problems and providing alternative solutions. After conducting observations, several issues were identified at UMKM, including the lack of business permits, the absence of a business profile, vision, mission, and organizational structure, the desire to create a new business logo, an inadequate business banner, the lack of a business stamp, the absence of simple financial bookkeeping, the lack of an online shop account, the business location not being listed on Google Maps, and ineffective marketing strategies.To address these issues, several business development assistance programs were formulated, including: Obtaining business permits such as the NIB (Business Identification Number), Creating a business profile, vision, mission, and organizational structure, Designing a new business logo, Creating a business banner, Creating a business stamp, Designing new product labels, Implementing simple financial bookkeeping, Calculating the cost of goods sold (COGS), Setting up social media accounts like Shopee store, Listing the business location on Google Maps, Producing various videos for production and promotion. After analyzing and implementing these assistance programs, the UMKM experienced positive impacts. These included obtaining business permits such as the NIB for legal business status, having a business profile, vision, mission, and organizational structure for complete business documentation, and more.</p>

Orientation towards environmental sustainability in European family versus nonfamily firms: the role of policymaker engagement and incentives

ABSTRACT This study contributes to the debate on family business environmental sustainability by investigating the environmental orientation of family versus nonfamily firms. We study whether family business status affects (i) the extent of environmental orientation, i.e. the number of incentives set for environmental sustainability activities, contingent upon firms’ engagement with policymakers, and (ii) how firms’ environmental orientation unfolds, considering the types and beneficiaries of the incentives. To do so, we build on behavioural theories in family business, along with the literature on firm non-market strategies and responses to institutional pressure. Data on 162 European manufacturing firms from the Carbon Disclosure Project and the Orbis database are collected. Our results show that family firms have a higher degree of environmental orientation than nonfamily firms. However, when they engage with policymakers, the family firm–environmental orientation relationship weakens. Regarding the types and beneficiaries of the incentives, family firms are more likely to provide monetary incentives and to be more inclusive in their incentive systems than nonfamily firms are.

Forecasting Business Status of Organizations by Analyzing Historic Earnings Call Transcripts with the Aid of Text Refinement Framework

Objectives: The research work focuses on providing an effective framework for automated text refinement that aids in financial condition projections for the company based on prior transcripts of earnings calls. The proposed framework captures the ad hoc advancements of the organizations described in the earnings call as sentiments and computes a score based on the captured sentiments. The sentiment score is then used as prime parameter to predict the stock values of the organizations. Methods: The framework is equipped with sentiment analysis or opinion mining to identify and extract the subjective content using text mining and Natural Language Processing (NLP). The extracted sentiments help in yielding a sentiment score to aid in the process of stock projection. The research also illustrates how the sentiment score-based stock prediction enhances in projections of stock compared to existing ML frameworks like LSTM, Random Forest, ARIMA and Regression models. Findings: The proposed work has an accuracy score of 93%, precision 96% and recall 95% which is comparatively better than existing ML frameworks framed on LSTM, Random Forest, ARIMA and Regression models. Novelty: The research framework overcomes the influence of regular features and test data in stock prediction by using the computed sentiment prediction score from the extracted sentiment phase to aid in prediction stock values and determine the financial status of organizations. The existing frameworks project the stock price based on trained model from previous stock price repository, which tend to fail capturing ad hoc changes incurring in the organization such as change of management or any economic disaster which can poses a high impact on stock projections, the proposed research work captures these organizational changes from the earnings call transcripts as sentiments and build a score to yield the stock projection framework. A Multi-Satellite Space Environment Risk Prediction and Real-Time Warning System for Satellite Safety Management

In response to the need for a space security situation assessment during orbit, the multi-satellite space environmental risk prediction and early warning system is based on the detection results of the space weather payload of the Fengyun 4A and 4B satellites, as well as the prediction results of the National Space Weather Center, for the first time. By comprehensively utilizing some open-source data, it is the first time that we have achieved a 24 h advanced prediction of the space environment high-energy proton, low-energy particle, and high-energy electron risks for the safety of the Fengyun-series high-orbit satellites, and a real-time warning of satellite single-event upset, surface charging, and deep charging risks. The automation system has preliminarily achieved an intelligent space risk assessment for the safety of multiple stationary meteorological satellites, effectively improving the application efficiency of the space environmental data and the products of Fengyun-series satellites. The business status is stable in operation, and the resulting error between the predicted results of various risk indices and the measured data was less than one level. The warning accuracy was better than 90%. This article uses the system for the first time, to use Fengyun satellite data to, accurately and in a timely manner, predict and warn us about the low-energy particles and surface charging high-risk levels of the Fengyun 4A and 4B satellites during the typical space weather event on 21 April 2023, in response to the impact of complex spatial environmental factors on the safety of Fengyun-series high-orbit satellites. The construction and operation of a multi-satellite space environmental risk prediction and early warning system can provide a reference for the safety work of subsequent satellite ground system operations.

Prefigurative imaginaries: Giving the unbanked in Kenyan informal settlements the power to issue their own currency

As corporate social responsibility research increasingly focuses on the role of grassroots organizations in challenging business practices, there remains a gap in understanding how these organizations prefigure alternatives to the prevailing business status quo. This study addresses this gap by developing a framework of prefigurative imaginaries, drawing from a qualitative study of a grassroots organization confronting the social irresponsibility of the Kenyan banking system in serving the poor. The framework captures how grassroots organizations use imaginaries to prefigure an alternative community currency system for enacting and foreshadowing social change. However, when attempts were made to scale up the system, these actions became disjointed, resulting in cracks within the imaginaries and the eventual abandonment of the system. Our study contributes to corporate social responsibility research by broadening its scope to include grassroots organizations and unveiling how they prefigure social change in marginalized contexts. By highlighting the significant influence of imaginaries on experiences and practices, this study underscores their role in shaping the acceptance or rejection of grassroots initiatives by the communities they aim to serve. It has implications for scholars and practitioners interested in understanding the role of imaginaries in shaping community-driven initiatives and advancing social change agendas.

Further, it is important to learn how to use the information presented in the statements to help them manage both the daily business and assist in long term planning for the business. This presentation explains the financial statements and how to use them to make better busi­ness decisions in a veterinary practice and other businesses or organizations a veterinarian may be associated with.

Modelling and assessing new SME digital business status for visualising virtual economics and sustainability economic indicators: Empirical evidence from poultry business

SMEs are generally recognised as financial contributors to regional economic development. Despite the enormous contributions of digital SMEs to sustainable economic growth and regional development have not yet been reported. This paper assesses and models SME businesses to gain a digital business status and model. These days, visualising economic growth is challenging and powerful to identify business performance and realise sustainable regional development. This research analyses empirical data obtained from a poultry business to form a standard model for implementing a new SME digital business model and status. This standard model is a guideline to measure the other SME businesses and productions. Localisation of the SDGs was analysed using thematic analysis. Mathematical computation is used to visualise virtual economic growth geographically. Hence, our digital business model and status demonstrated business performance, management, and economic growth.

Comparison of Machine Learning Algorithms for Predicting Financial Risk in Cash Flow Statements

Nowadays, making financial decisions and evaluating loan applications is a complex and sensitive process. Cash flow data, which shows the financial risk status of businesses, plays a key role in evaluating loan applications. Cash flow data, which shows the financial risk status of businesses, plays a key role in evaluating loan applications. Guiding business managers in making strategic decisions and managing financial risks, quarterly data provides a detailed timeline of business performance and helps identify seasonal changes. A detailed analysis using machine learning algorithms evaluates the performance of different models built to compare businesses quarters in the loan classification process and highlights the role of cash flow data in the process. It was aimed to create effective algorithms by taking into account the suitability of the quarterly data between 2018 and 2022 of the 282 companies used in the study, and to provide a unique approach in the field of evaluating these algorithms with information criteria. The model performances of the quarters are very close to each other and a high success rate is obtained. Therefore, it was observed that quarterly periods did not make a significant difference in model performance. The model created for the 2nd quarter of 2019 was selected as the best model with 99% accuracy and 99% F1 value. It was also determined that the selection of variables with high accuracy rates in the models established for each quarter is important in terms of predicting financial risk.

Thinking Across Capability Model for Accessibility of People's Business Credit (KUR) Capital for Micro Business Actors

This research examines the central government's facilitation to foster the resilience of MSME actors through capital financing, namely the People's Business Credit (KUR) program. The implementation of capital assistance through KUR remains problematic, especially the accessibility. The main objective is to analyse the problem situations and dynamics of micro-business capital and provide recommendations in the form of an adaptive and innovative policy construction model to the government. This research utilises the Soft Systems Methodology (SSM) perspective, which can transform a complex, unstructured problem into a more structured problem situation and build a conceptual model that fits the context of the existing problem. The results indicate that the primary problem is the dominance of the KUR program’s policy control by the central government, which complicates capital accessibility, especially for micro businesses, and limits the authority of local governments. The proposed conceptual model focuses on thinking across capabilities, which allows the adoption of thoughts, opinions, and ideas outside the inherent cultural framework to create innovative and adaptive policy outcomes. The two main dimensions of the model application are delegated task and authority, which is the power to delegate and provide insight or the ability to produce innovative and adaptive thinking. This resulted in two recommendations for the mandate mechanism to local governments, namely (1) authorising local governments to make recommendations for business status based on mapping to provide a guarantee for micro-businesses (2) the authority of local governments to work with banks to facilitate the distribution and bureaucratic management of KUR financing to micro businesses.
