And in certain fields as well as developing human resources capable of creating jobs for themselves and others in accordance with development demands with the aim of creating motivation for participants so that they can improve quality and quantity. An entrepeneur has a role both internally, entrepreuner play a role in reducing the level of dependence on other people, increasing self-confidence and increasing the purchasing power of the perpetrator. Externally, an entrepreuner plays a role in providing job opportunities for job opportunities for seekers. By attacting the workforce through job opportunities provided by entrepreneurs, the national unemployment rate can be reduced. Training can also make Human Resources more critical, creative and have additional skills. Skills are an important component needed in various areas of life. These 21st century skills are life and career skills, learning and innovation skills, and media and information technology skills

Evaluating the impact of digital and financial literacy on MSME performance

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to determine the critical success factors that contribute to the performance of micro-, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the context of digital and financial literacy. This study employed the total interpretive structural modeling approach to construct a hierarchical model of important success elements and analyze their direct and indirect interconnections. This article specifies six success factors that impact the performance of MSMEs, with the consideration of their effects and value generation leading to enhanced performance. The results indicate that entrepreneurial orientation and digital literacy are the primary components of the developed model, with all factors collectively contributing to overall performance. By identifying and categorizing key components within the strategic model, the study provides MSME founders with a systematic way to enhance business competency, which has significant consequences for business growth and success. The hierarchical model developed in this research assists policy makers and practitioners in improving the performance of MSMEs.

University-business linkages influence on international business competence: An in-service training perspective

Firms often rely on the skills and mindsets of individual employees and managers rather than on organizational structures and capabilities to execute entrepreneurial activities. These individual-level factors, which may originate from educational and business experiences, also support the development of international business competencies when firms engage in international operations. Accordingly, this study investigates educational collaborations in university-business linkages that influence international business competence at the individual level. Survey data were collected from 489 in-service-trained business executives pursuing (Executive) Master of Business Administration degrees while concurrently holding supervisory and managerial responsibilities in firms in Ghana. Factor analysis revealed four dimensions of educational collaborations in university-business linkages. Results from hypothesis testing, conducted using covariance-based structural equation modeling (CB-SEM), indicate that the diversity and internationality of study content and research dimensions positively and significantly influence these executives' global mindset, entrepreneurial orientation, and international marketing skills in performing foreign business operations. Similarly, interactions with international resource persons positively and significantly influence the executives' global mindset and international marketing skills. However, while participation in international affairs shows positive effects, these are not statistically significant. We discuss these findings and highlight their implications for developing international human capital through a university-business educational collaboration framework useful for executives, business schools, academics, and global higher education development partners.

PENGARUH PEMBERIAN REWARD DAN PUNISHMENT TERHADAP KINERJA KARYAWAN SACOM ENERGIA LDA

SACOM Energia Lda is an East Timorese company operating at the oil gas industry. Development of business competencies requires integrated human resource management (HRM) in an institute. The research purpose is to evaluate and elaborate factors that have influence of employee performance such as rewards and punishments. Data were obtainedfrom SACOM Energia Lda employees using a questionnaire method. All the data calculated using SPSS program. Tests carried out include validity, reliability, normality, multicollinearity, and heteroscedasticity, each test carried out obtained acceptable. Based on statistic analysis, it was discovered that the provision rewards, punishments, and performance were quite good with values of 34.2, 40.8, and 33.9, respectively. The partial test results show that the tcount ttable on both variables and the sig value 0.05, then both hypotheses H1 and H2, on variables (X1) and (X2) are proven to have an effect and according to simultaneous test, it was found that the sig value is less than 0.001, this shown the result indicate the variables (X1 X2) simultaneously will affect employee performance, the result H3 hypothesis is proven to have an effect. This research can be concluded that rewards and punishment have an influence of 50,4% on performance, while 49.6% is caused by external factors.Keywords: Human Resource Management, Rewards, Punishment, EmployeePerformance.

ANALYZING COMPANY’S COMPETITIVENESS: DEFINITIONS AND INFLUENCING FACTORS

The article is devoted to the study of the competitiveness of the enterprise as an economic concept and an object of assessment. Issues that remain unresolved, despite the significant level of development of this issue, are considered. In particular, the problems of the integration of digital technologies as one of the main factors of competitiveness are highlighted, the importance of the adaptability of cross-industry innovations is shown, and the relationship between the concepts of sustainable development and the competitiveness of the enterprise is explained. It was determined that today enterprises, forming competitive advantages, face new challenges in the context of globalization. Much of the existing research focuses on static models of competitiveness, while prospective studies should pay more attention to how corporations can maintain competitiveness in a dynamic global marketplace. The article identifies the main factors in the formation of sustainable competitive advantages of enterprises in the conditions of the digital economy and the intensive spread of technologies. The authors proposed a schematic visualization of the multifaceted meaningful interrelationship of competitiveness and the main business competencies of innovative enterprises. Based on the analysis of scientific sources and previous empirical studies of the authors, the list of competitiveness factors is summarized, which is based on a synthetic approach and includes external, internal, macroeconomic, environmental, social, technological, innovative and other factors. It is emphasized that one of the key levers of the mechanism of formation of sustainable competitive advantages of enterprises in modern conditions of uncertainty is market adaptability, which is subject to economic analysis and forecasting. Thus, the authors note that innovation potential has become a key element for maintaining competitiveness, especially in technology-driven industries, while corporate social responsibility and sustainable development are increasingly seen as integral components of long-term competitiveness; moreover, with the deepening of globalization, companies must possess the ability to adapt to the conditions of international markets in order to remain competitive in the long term. The priority direction of further research is the development of a model for evaluating the market adaptability of innovatively active enterprises operating in growing markets.

‘Woman-Owned Business’ Labels Enhance Perceived Competence

Abstract Gender bias is widely recognized as having negative effects on women in business, including on outcomes such as hiring, promotion, pay, and access to venture capital funding. This study identifies a strategy that women business owners can employ to boost business outcomes. Across five preregistered studies (N = 2585), including a field study, affixing the owner attribute label “woman-owned business” can engender positive business outcomes, including perceptions of business competence and service quality (studies 1 and 2). These effects are driven by an increase in perceptions of the business owner’s agency (study 3). Affixing a gender-based owner attribute label is especially effective in situations that lack other credible cues of competence (study 4) and in industries that are perceived as difficult to succeed in (study 5). The present work advances our understanding of stereotypes, discrimination, and identity in the consumer marketplace, and it offers practical implications for business owners in traditionally marginalized groups who face—and must combat—stereotypes.

Central Maintenance Spin-Off Creation towards Digitalization Focused on the Parent Company: A Case Study of Integrated Steel Corporation (ISC) in Indonesia

The steel industry plays a crucial role in national development. Major global steel producers such as the United States, Russia, and Japan have seen declines due to the rise of China as a dominant steel producer. Integrated Steel Corporation (ISC) in Indonesia has also faced declining performance, with its market capitalization dropping by 68.9% over the past eight years. The research primarily aimed to analyze customer preferences in the maintenance industry and determine positioning strategies. Additionally, it sought to identify the factors driving the formation of the Strategic Maintenance Services (SMS) spin-off from ISC and propose strategies for SMS to achieve a competitive advantage. Data were collected qualitatively through interviews and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with customers to understand their perspectives, SMS management to grasp core business competencies and strategy, and ISC management to understand the parenting strategy. The results show several internal dynamics within ISC drove the formation of the SMS spin-off: 1) the transformation of the parent company; 2) short circuit incident at the main ISC factory; and 3) the cost burden of maintenance support. External factors indicate rapid industrial growth and the company's strengthening as a group after experiencing losses for almost a decade. The proposed strategy for SMS involves leveraging ISC’s subsidiaries and joint venture companies for centralized service maintenance. SMS aims to offer customized one-stop maintenance solutions with high quality at competitive prices by enabling Digital Maintenance Information (DMI). The target markets include large industries in steel manufacturing, petrochemicals, flour mills, cement, and logistics.

Analysis of Success Factors and Business Sustainability by Muslim Women Entrepreneurs Based on Islamic Studies

Businesses managed by Muslim women entrepreneurs have become an interesting phenomenon in the global economic landscape. This research aims to understand in depth the factors that contribute to the success and sustainability of businesses managed by Muslim women entrepreneurs, using an Islamic perspective as the basis for analysis. This research uses a qualitative approach with a multiple case study design. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with 15 Muslim women entrepreneurs who have businesses that have been running for at least 5 years and are considered successful in their respective industries. Data analysis was carried out using thematic methods, identifying key themes that emerged from the interview data. The research results reveal that the business success factors of Muslim women entrepreneurs include: (1) Integrity and Islamic Business Ethics: Successful Muslim women entrepreneurs demonstrate a strong commitment to the values of honesty, justice and transparency in running their business. (2) Business Knowledge and Competence: The ability to manage finances, marketing and business operations is an important factor in achieving success. (3) Networking and Collaboration: Building strong relationships with customers, suppliers and other business partners contributes to business growth and sustainability. (4) Innovation and Adaptation: The ability to innovate and adapt to market changes is key in facing competition. (5) Devotion and Spirituality: Devotion and the practice of Islamic spirituality provide motivation and strength in facing business challenges. This research provides valuable insight into the factors that contribute to the success and sustainability of businesses managed by Muslim women entrepreneurs. These findings have important implications for Muslim entrepreneurs, policy makers and academics in developing strategies and programs that support business growth and sustainability based on Islamic values.

Leadership Competencies of Pharmacists in the Manufacturing Sector of the Pharmaceutical Industry

Pharmacists are the main professionals in the pharmaceutical industry as they take responsibility for the medicines that are produced and managed within the industry. Manufacturing pharmaceutical companies (MPCs) make use of the skills of pharmacists for technical functions as most countries require the presence of pharmacists for regulatory compliance purposes. The roles that pharmacists can play in a manufacturing pharmaceutical company extend beyond the technical levels. The purpose of this study was to determine the leadership competencies of pharmacists in the manufacturing sector of the pharmaceutical industry in South Africa. A Leadership Competency Self-assessment Tool (LCSAT) with five (5) domains was used to determine the competencies relating to the functions of a pharmacist in a manufacturing pharmaceutical company. The domains included professionalism, pharmacy and healthcare environment, leadership, business skills, communication and relationships. The Leadership Competency Self-assessment Tool was administered to pharmacists who are members of a professional association for pharmacists who work in the pharmaceutical industry of South Africa. The association had 567 members who received the online questionnaire over two cycles. Responses were received from 84 pharmacists (15%) with only 62 (10.9%) responses that were complete and therefore formed the sample for the study. The pharmacists rated themselves as highly competent in the domain of pharmacy and healthcare environment (77,76%) and the lowest in the domain for business skills (64,83%). The role of pharmacists in a manufacturing pharmaceutical company is diverse and should not be limited to the technical functions, for the benefit of their patients. Pharmacists should be responsible for roles beyond the operational aspects of the companies in the pharmaceutical industry. They should be actively involved in roles such as promoting the pharmaceuticals their companies produce and strategic functions. To succeed, pharmacists must develop business competencies that will enable them to have business confidence and facilitate visibility while, engaging more corporate roles to boost revenue for their companies. Many pharmacists hold technical positions that see them overseeing manufacturing functions and responsible for manufacturing tasks. Effective communication and business skills to enable them to thrive in roles of strategic leadership are essential. A diversity of competencies for the pharmaceutical industry will increase the value of pharmacists in the pharmaceutical industry.

The Influence of Entrepreneurship Education on the Competence of Start-Up Ventures in Empowering Nascent Makeup Artists

This research aims to analyze the influence of entrepreneurship education on startup business competencies through the empowerment of prospective makeup artists. The study employs a quantitative approach with structural equation model analysis techniques using the AMOS application. The population of this study comprises alumni of the Entrepreneurial Skills Education Program (PKW) from Training and Course Institutes (LKP) between 2016 and 2018 in West Java. The sampling technique used is random sampling. Data were obtained through a questionnaire completed by 136 respondents. The results of the study indicate that entrepreneurship education does not have a significant effect on startup business competencies through the empowerment of prospective makeup artists. However, entrepreneurship education significantly influences two variables: startup business competencies (48.6%) and the empowerment of prospective makeup artists (89.1%). The study reveals the reasons for the low achievement of the PKW Program's success based on two indicators. Indicator II states that at least 75% of graduates should be able to start a business, and Indicator III specifies that at least 30% of those who start a business should earn an income equivalent to the local minimum wage within six months. The low success rate of the PKW Program in this study is explained by the limited skills of the mentors and the lack of reflection activities during the mentoring process. This research highlights the urgent need for effective mentors when prospective bridal makeup artists design and launch their startups. Mentors play a critical role in providing business insights, market advice, and market validation. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the quality of mentors and establish qualification standards for startup business mentors.

Identifying Information Technology (IT) and Cybersecurity Executives’ Competencies to Support Comprehensive Cybersecurity Programs

Information Technology (IT) and cybersecurity executives play a pivotal role in shaping the cybersecurity posture of an organization. Their ability to make informed decisions, allocate resources, and communicate effectively with cybersecurity professionals is paramount. Consequently, these executives must acquire the necessary competencies that encompass cybersecurity risk management, legal and regulatory compliance, and strategic planning combined with foundational business and technical competencies. An interdisciplinary approach bridging the gap between business, technical skills and strategic decision-making is crucial to navigate the ever-evolving and complex cybersecurity challenges facing organizations today. Failure to do so may result in catastrophic consequences for both individual enterprises and society. Further, the growing frequency and sophistication of cyber threats pose significant risks to organizations and individuals alike. To effectively counter these threats, it is imperative to not only develop cybersecurity talent but also to equip IT and cybersecurity executives with essential competencies in this domain. Equally important, is to identify the specific competencies and develop an approach to train or teach them. According to Burrell, Aridi, & Nobles (2018) there is an extremely urgent need of leadership development for cybersecurity and information technology professionals to prepare these professionals with the foundational skills to excel in leadership, management, and directing an enterprise-level program. This paper underscores the critical need for a comprehensive understanding of both Information Technology (IT) and cybersecurity executive competencies and cybersecurity executive development. Integrating these two aspects is critical to improve an organization’s cybersecurity posture and ensure alignment between organizational objectives and cybersecurity strategies. The two must work in tandem to create a robust and resilient cybersecurity infrastructure. This paper provides an analysis of the current literature regarding IT/Cybersecurity roles and responsibilities, leadership competencies, and technical competencies of IT/Cybersecurity executives to identify the gaps in existing research. The authors propose a survey instrument to conduct a quantitative analysis to identify executives’ beliefs as to how important it is to possess each administrative competency. The survey is part of a future research plan to identify and evaluate administrative and technical competencies of IT/Cybersecurity executive leaders.

THE CRITICAL ROLE OF TECHNOLOGY ADOPTION AND COMPETENCY THROUGH IMPROVING TEAMWORK AND KNOWLEDGE TRANSFORMATION IN THE FURNITURE BUSINESS IN JEPARA

The Jepara furniture industry, facing global pressure and intense competition, must integrate technology and increase competence to maintain competitiveness. This article analyzes the critical role of technology adoption and competency development through improving teamwork and knowledge transformation in the context of the furniture business in Jepara. Using quantitative research methods and conducting surveys on furniture companies in Jepara, data was analyzed through questionnaires that focused on critical variables, such as technology adoption, teamwork, knowledge transformation, and business competency indicators. The research results show that technology adoption, improved teamwork, and knowledge transformation positively correlate with business competency. Technology integration provides operational efficiency, while improved teamwork and knowledge transformation improve employee skills and response to market dynamics. This article provides insight into the importance of this strategy in creating an efficient and responsive business model in the Jepara furniture industry. The practical implications include guidance for furniture business players to increase competitiveness through technology adoption, strong teamwork and effective knowledge management.

Do board networks matter for corporate cash holdings? Evidence from Australian firms

PurposeIn today’s interconnected world, social capital has emerged as a crucial business competence, drawing significant attention in recent literature. Using social network analysis, this study aims to investigate the impact of network centrality, established by a firm through its board members (i.e. boardroom networks), on corporate cash holdings.Design/methodology/approachThis study uses extensive panel data comprising 36,963 firm-year observations of firms listed on the Australian Securities Exchange, spanning a 22-year period (2001–2022). The study uses firm fixed-effect regression along with several alternative specifications and an instrumental variable approach to ensure the robustness of the results. Boardroom network centrality is quantified by five measures that capture different perspectives on networks as viable conduits for resource exchange and information flow: degree, two-step reach, closeness, eigenvector and betweenness.FindingsThe authors find evidence for the benefits of board networks. Firms with well-connected boards (central firms) are more likely to have smaller cash holdings. The findings also reveal distinct effects stemming from local and global properties of centrality, with local network measures playing a more pronounced role in shaping cash-holding decisions. Overall, the evidence reflects the ability of connected directors to enhance governance by limiting managerial discretion over cash reserves, thus reducing agency conflicts associated with cash holdings.Research limitations/implicationsThis study offers important insights for regulators, investors and practitioners, highlighting the potential for connected directors to effectively curtail managerial autonomy in deploying corporate cash holdings.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the ongoing discussion about the advantages and drawbacks of board networks, which constitute a vibrant and burgeoning area of research in the finance literature. It also complements scanty network-based studies on firm cash holdings. Importantly, this study extends prior work by providing robust evidence and a comprehensive analysis of the nuanced roles that board networks play in affecting the level of cash reserves.

Project-Based Learning Method to Enhance Students’ Digital Business Competence in English Course

English is a compulsory subject studied in every study program. English is usually learned in the first and second semesters. This research aims to make English learning more enjoyable. This type of research is descriptive analysis. The instrument used is a questionnaire. The students involved in this research were 28 people from the digital business study program. This study found the correct type of project-based learning for students is role-playing by imitating conversations in English from a short video that is rich in moral values played by students and then made into a video. The second finding is that the results of the questionnaire as a research instrument concluded that the task of project learning was beneficial for them in understanding English learning.

Peran Kompetensi Komunikasi Bisnis dalam Kesuksesan Wirausaha Mahasiswa STIE Ganesha

This research aims to analyze the relationship between business communication competencies obtained during education at STIE Ganesha and success in developing businesses or startups by students. With a focus on twenty students who are active entrepreneurs, this research uses a qualitative approach to collect and analyze data. Through in-depth interviews and content analysis of business communications carried out, this research identifies how communication skills such as negotiation, presentation, and interpersonal communication contribute to their entrepreneurial success. The research results show that students with higher business communication competencies tend to experience greater success in their entrepreneurial activities. These findings imply the importance of integrating effective business communication training in higher education curricula, especially for students interested in entrepreneurship. It is hoped that further implications of this research will provide insight to educational institutions to develop communication training modules that are more effective and relevant to the needs of the job market.

The Factors That Influences on Working Environment of Government Employees in Bosnia and Herzegovina

In today's business environment, the majority of business activities are closely tied to information technologies, which play a crucial role in enabling and facilitating business operations when utilized effectively. There is a growing emphasis on the adaptability of individuals in the workplace and the utilization of human capital in business success. A key requirement for business organizations is the effective management of information technologies, which encompasses the knowledge, skills, and abilities possessed by employees to navigate evolving technology and achieve organizational objectives. This includes proficiency in digital competencies for continuous learning and adaptation to the ever-changing landscape of information technologies. This study introduces indicators related to adapting to changes in the workplace, focusing on human capital engaged in continuous learning and information technologies. The process of adapting to changes is highlighted as a means of transforming essential business competencies into contemporary skills. The integration of these factors in the business framework reflects organizations' readiness to embrace modern business practices. While the research was conducted in state institutions rather than private companies, its significance lies in introducing novel approaches to business practices in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The recommendations presented at the conclusion of the study aim to further enhance the modernization of business approaches and assess the potential impact of competency gaps on organizational performance.

Overcoming one-sidedness in cadre personnel management: Developing a competency framework for China's central state-owned enterprise executives

China's central state-owned enterprises (SOEs) are politically and economically significant, and executives play a crucial role in determining their performance. In a competitive business environment, the selection and competencies of central SOE executives are crucial. This study aims to identify the competencies required to operate central SOEs and develops a competency framework for their executives. Through qualitative studies (face-to-face interviews and Delphi method) and two quantitative studies, we identify four dimensions—self-development, interpersonal, positional and organizational development—comprising 12 factors and 45 competencies, and use these to construct a competency framework. The competencies identified include some previously identified, but also unique competencies that are specific to the Chinese context. The proposed framework is valuable for understanding and improving managerial practices in central SOEs, and will help in the selection and development of executives. It also provides insights for central SOEs, and for individuals considering career and competency development.

Analysing the competitiveness of industries using the Analytical Hierarchy Process and Porter’s model: A case of Durgapur city

Declining contribution to employment of the steel industry, which used to be the number-one sector in the city of Durgapur (India), leads to a search for alternative employment sources. The article aims to identify the criteria and sub-criteria to reveal the business competence through Porter’s model and ranking of business competence of each industry through the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) for Durgapur. Porter’s Five Forces Framework is used as the methodological basis to find the best alternate industry option based on their competitive position and provides the framework and subsequent criteria to analyse competitiveness. The key research method is the analytical hierarchy process that helps to measure the criteria qualitatively. The empirical evidence comes from the survey of 126 respondents: 36 experts who are well-versed in the industrial development of the city and fixed the weightage of the criteria through the AHP, and 90 industry-specific experts provide the range value for each criterion for each industry, which is used to generate the final value. The paper demonstrates the quantitative framework to establish the competition level of major industries in Durgapur, the strategic framework to support the industrial transition, and a brief about their dual nature of competition. We have figured out nine employment-generating industrial sectors within the city of Durgapur, among which are steel production, information technology (IT), education, healthcare, etc. The IT industry was found to be the most competitive sector that provided additional employment opportunities; it was followed by non-metal production, healthcare, and education.

Information Systems Strategy for Multi-National Corporations: Towards an Operational Model and Action List

The development and implementation of information systems strategy in multi-national corporations (MNCs) faces particular challenges—cultural differences and variations in work values and practices across different countries, numerous technology landscapes and legacy issues, language and accounting particularities, and differing business models. This article builds upon the existing literature and in-depth interviews with eighteen industry practitioners employed in six MNCs to construct an operational model to address these challenges. The research design is based on an inductive, qualitative approach that develops an initial conceptual framework—derived from the literature—into an operational model, which is then applied and refined in a case study company. The final model consists of change components and process phases. Six change components are identified that drive and underpin IS strategy—business strategy, systems projects, technology infrastructure, process change, skills and competencies, and costs and benefits. Five core process phases are recognized—review, align, engage, execute, and control. The model is based on the interaction between these two dimensions—change components and process phases—and an action list is also developed to support the application of the model, which contributes to the theory and practice of information systems deployment in MNCs.
