Preface

IV Workshop on Modeling and Simulation for Science and Engineering, Organizing Committee, National Scientific Committee and this titles are available in this pdf. This volume presents the written contributions of the participants of the IV Workshop on Modeling and Simulation for Science and Engineering (IV WMSSE) which was held from 15 to March 16, 2021, at the Bucaramanga city, Colombia, organized by the Foundation Of Researchers In Science And Technology Of Materials (FORISTOM).The Proceedings volume includes 23 manuscripts that were presented as plenary talks at the conference. The abstracts of all participants‘ contributions were published in the Book with ISSN 2745-1496. The website of the conference is available at https://foristom.org/4wmsse.The two-day scientific program of the IV WMSSE consisted of 8 magisterial remote conferences, 28 oral remote presentations, with the participation of undergraduate and graduate students, professors, researchers, and entrepreneurs from Spain, Uruguay, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela, and Colombia. Prevalencia de tejido mamario denso en una población en la ciudad de Bucaramanga, Colombia

Introducción: La presencia de tejido mamario denso en las mujeres es una condición que dificulta la valoración y la adecuada interpretación de la mamografía, lo cual puede llegar a enmascarar lesiones sospechosas de malignidad. Estudios recientes sugieren la realización de estudios complementarios para el tamizaje y abordaje diagnóstico de estas pacientes.
 Objetivo: Establecer la prevalencia de mujeres mayores de 50 años con mamas densas en el área de Bucaramanga estudiadas por mamografía y determinar la necesidad de la realización de estudios complementarios
 Materiales y métodos: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo retrospectivo durante el periodo comprendido entre 1 enero de 2014 hasta 31 agosto de 2015, se revisaron 10.110 mamografías en pacientes mayores de 50 años. Posteriormente, se hizo una revisión de la literatura en las principales bases de datos.
 Resultados: De las 10110 mamografías realizadas, 4448 fueron encontradas como positivas para mama densa. De estas un 39.69% correspondió con Tejido mamario heterogéneamente denso, y 4.29% extremadamente denso; para un total de 43.9% de los casos estudiados.
 Discusión: La densidad mamaria es un factor de riesgo independiente de cáncer de mama, siendo de mediana importancia frente a otros factores. A medida que incrementa la densidad mamaria se genera la superposición del tejido mamario radio-opaco que puede ocultar y llegar a retardar el diagnostico de un cáncer subyacente
 Conclusión: Dada la alta prevalencia de tejido mamario denso encontrado en nuestra población la evidencia actual sugiere complementar el tamizaje con otros métodos de imágenes, individualizando cada paciente.

Age band 1 of the movement assessment battery for children -2. Reliability of the spanish version.

The development of motor skills influences the capacity of the child to interact with the environment. Thus, several instruments have been created for their assessment. To evaluate the internal consistency, reproducibility, and agreement level of age band 1 of the Movement Assessment Battery for Children - 2 in a preschool group. Assessment study of diagnostic tests with 29 preschoolers, selected by convenience, enrollments in an educational ins titution in Bucaramanga city, Colombia. For the inter-evaluators reproducibility assessment, three evaluators watched each video independently. In the intra-evaluator reproducibility assessment, each evaluator watched the same video on two different occasions. The internal consistency, the intra- and inter-evaluator reproducibility, and the agreement level were determined using Cronbach's alpha co efficient, the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC), and the Bland and Altman limits of agreement method, respectively. Internal consistency of the total test for each of the three evaluators was higher than 0.60. Very good reliability was found for all items, domains, and total score of age band 1 of MABC-2 (ICC > 0.85), as well as good limits of agreement. age band 1 of MABC-2 Spanish version is an instrument with adequate reliability psychometric properties that can be used for the motor skills development evaluation in preschoolers.

Estimación de la huella hídrica asociada al proceso de beneficio bovino de la cadena cárnica en los frigoríficos Vijagual y Jongovito (Colombia)

La huella hídrica es un indicador de la apropiación de los recursos de agua dulce y aporta una valiosa información sobre el impacto ambiental que ocasiona un bien o servicio. Por ello, es interesante conocer el consumo de agua y los niveles de contaminación detrás de todo proceso productivo. El objetivo de este estudio fue dar una primera aproximación a la contabilidad de la huella hídrica en el proceso de beneficio bovino en el Frigorífico Vijagual S.A.S. de la ciudad de Bucaramanga y en el Frigorífico Jongovito S.A de la ciudad de San Juan de Pasto. Para el cálculo de la huella hídrica azul se hizo necesario conocer el volumen de agua empleada en el proceso y el del agua que retorna a la fuente hídrica después de su tratamiento. Para el cálculo de la huella hídrica gris se tomó como indicador la carga contaminante de materia orgánica expresada en DQO, por ser el parámetro de mayor concentración. La huella hídrica verde no se determinó por no tratarse de un proceso agroforestal. Para el Frigorífico Vijagual se obtuvo como resultado una huella hídrica total de 2.583 l/res, mientras que para el Frigorífico Jongovito se obtuvo una huella hídrica de 1.358 l/res. Si bien es cierto estos valores son inferiores a datos nacionales e internacionales, en términos de sostenibilidad es muy importante disminuir el consumo de agua, mejorar cada vez más los sistemas de tratamiento y realizar un esfuerzo en concienciar respecto al uso responsable del agua a sus operarios, en beneficio de las generaciones presentes y futuras.

El mercado del cuidado, el cuidado del mercado de la niñez en perspectiva de los cuidadores

Se realizó una indagación sobre el cuidado desde el mercado y su articulación con la sociedad y las formas de producción desde un enfoque cualitativo entre cuidadores, hombres y mujeres, de la ciudad de Bucaramanga, Colombia. Esta investigación permitió el reconocimiento no solo de las dificultades de acceso, inequidad y subvaloración de la esfera doméstica del cuidado. Entre los hallazgos también se denotan las tensiones para los cuidadores, especialmente en el ámbito familiar, por la alta responsabilidad social que ello implica, especialmente para las mujeres.

Cross-Sectional Study of Developmental Coordination Disorder with Behavior Problems in Children from Bucaramanga City, Colombia

Introduccion : el trastorno del desarrollo de la coordinacion tdc en la infancia es una problematica importante desde la salud publica, ya que tiene repercusiones para el desarrollo infantil desde las dimensiones motora, cognitiva, psicosocial y emocional y, al mismo tiempo, son frecuentes sus comorbilidades con otros trastornos del desarrollo infantil. El presente estudio analiza la asociacion de caracteristicas de tdc con los problemas de conducta en ninos de la ciudad de Bucaramanga, Colombia. Materiales y metodos : Estudio transversal, descriptivo y de asociacion, en una muestra de 140 ninos de 6 a 12 anos de edad, aleatorizados en instituciones educativas. Se realizo entrevista estructurada y aplicacion de cuestionarios para determinar la presencia de caracteristicas de tdc y de problemas de conducta. Se realizo analisis descriptivo univariado para la caracterizacion sociodemografica y pruebas de asociacion con coeficiente de correlacion de Spearman. Resultados : se encontro una prevalencia del 3,6 % de caracteristicas de tdc en la poblacion estudiada, y una asociacion de Rho = -0,263 con p valor = 0,002 entre caracteristicas de tdc y problemas de conducta referidos por los padres. Discusion : la prevalencia de caracteristicas de tdc para Bucaramanga fue menor en relacion con la mayoria que se reporta a nivel internacional. La asociacion entre caracteristicas de tdc y problemas de conducta en esta ciudad es baja pero estadisticamente significativa.

Merchandising visual en el punto de venta, marcas versus consumidores en la toma de decisiones

La investigación se realizó en los principales supermercados de la ciudad de Bucaramanga, Colombia, partiendo de una conceptualización teórica. Para la recolección de los datos se utilizaron técnicas cualitativas y cuantitativas en los supermercados seleccionados, para después realizar el análisis de los resultados obtenidos y concluir con la elaboración del modelo conceptual con su correspondiente validación estadística.
 Se hace un análisis de los principales factores presentes en el punto de venta y que inciden en la toma de decisiones de compra. Se contrasta el comportamiento de los clientes con la propuesta del punto de venta y de las marcas para atraer su atención. Finalmente se plantea un modelo que destaca elementos claves para la toma de decisiones en el punto de venta, entre los que se cuentan la decoración del lugar, las promotoras de ventas y el merchandising visual. Los resultados llevan a concluir que el 28% de los clientes de forma usual cambian o toman su decisión por efecto de la publicidad o del merchandising visual, llegando incluso al 61%, considerando a quienes cambian su decisión de forma ocasional.

La participación política electoral femenina en Santander durante el Frente Nacional

El presente artículo analiza la participación política de las mujeres en Santander durante el Frente Nacional, en dos cuerpos legislativos de carácter local y departamental: el Concejo Municipal de Bucaramanga y la Asamblea Departamental. Para comprender la importancia de esta participación es importante mencionar que el Frente Nacional fue el periodo de 16 años en los que los partidos políticos Liberal y Conservador establecieron un pacto de alternancia política, como fórmula expedita para terminar con más de dos décadas de violencia partidista y en el cual las mujeres iniciaron su vida política como ciudadanas con derecho a elegir y ser elegidas, después de un proceso de incidencia política iniciado en los años 30 y que culminó en 1954 con el otorgamiento del derecho al voto por parte de la Comisión de Estudios Constitucionales durante la presidencia del General Rojas Pinilla. Pero el alborozo con el que las mujeres Santandereanas participaron tanto en el plebiscito de 1957, que refrendó el Frente Nacional y su derecho a la ciudadanía, como en las primeras elecciones de 1958 en las que participaron por primera vez como candidatas, se fue esfumando durante los 16 años, dejándoles un sabor agridulce pues las expectativas de igualdad no se cumplieron aunque sí una inclusión minoritaria en los espacios de decisión política en representación de los intereses de los partidos políticos con los cuales tenían membresía por sus vínculos familiares o sindicales principalmente.

Hyperparathyroidism in a Colombian City

Objective: Hyperparathyroidism has a variable presentation. Clinical manifestations, histopathology, and treatment of patients with hyperparathyroidism in Bucaramanga City, Colombia, were analyzed. Method: A descriptive study was conducted. Results: Twenty-five patients (F:M ratio 1.5:1) with age ranging from 14 to 81 years (mean, 52.1 ± 18.15 years) were analyzed. Skeletal/osseous manifestations (100%), renal calculi (66%), muscle weakness (40%), and pruritus (24%) were the most common symptoms with mean duration of 24.2 months. Biochemical features included hypercalcemia (total corrected calcium 13.83 mg/dL), and high parathyroid hormone (mean, 1095.7). Twelve of 25 patients had primary hyperparathyroidism, 11 out of 25 secondary hyperparathyroidism, and 2 had tertiary hyperparathyroidism. A single patient had multinodular thyroid goiter. Parathyroidectomy was performed by Kocher’s incision in 21 out of 25 cases and minimally invasive open approach in 4 out of 25 cases. The following types of interventions have been performed: tumor resections (15/25), subtotal parathyroidectomies (6/25), and total parathyroidectomies (4/25). A total thyroidectomy was performed in the patient with associated thyroid disease (1/25). Histopathological examination revealed parathyroidian adenoma in 40% of patients, parathyroidian hyperplasia in 48%, and parathyroidian carcinoma in 4%. All symptoms and hypercalcemia resolved with the treatment. Such complication was observed in a case of hungry bone syndrome. No patients died within 15 months of follow-up. Conclusion: We described the clinical and histopathological features of patients with hyperparathyroidism in Colombia. Although pathologic features of parathyroid carcinoma are diagnostically reliable, those of the more commonly encountered lesions of adenoma and hyperplasia may be overlapping and, therefore, indistinctive, more so if only a single gland is available for examination.

Polymorphisms of pro‐inflammatory cytokine genes and the risk for acute suppurative or chronic nonsuppurative apical periodontitis in a Colombian population

To determine the association of functional single nucleotide polymorphisms in genes of the pro-inflammatory cytokines tumour necrosis factor-α, interleukin-1β, interleukin-8 and interleukin-12B with the development of two clinical forms of apical periodontitis (AP): acute suppurative and chronic nonsuppurative. The study included 120 patients from Bucaramanga City, Colombia, 63 diagnosed with acute suppurative AP (ASAP) and 57 diagnosed with chronic nonsuppurative AP (CNAP). Genotyping for IL1B +3954 (rs1143634), IL8 / CXCL8 -251 (rs4073), IL12B +1188 (rs3212227) and TNFA -308 (rs1800629) was performed by the PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphisms method. The statistical analysis was performed using STATA 10.0 and PLINK V1.07 software. Significant differences in the distribution of IL8 / CXCL8 -251 A allele (P adjusted=0.041; OR adjusted=0.41, CI adjusted=0.31-0.97) and IL8 / CXCL -251 TT genotype (P adjusted=0.04; OR adjusted= 2.24, CI adjusted=1.04-4.84) were observed comparing patients diagnosed with ASAP and CNAP. No association was observed in genotype and allele distribution for other genetic polymorphisms analysed. This study provides molecular epidemiological evidence that suggests in the present cohort that IL8 / CXCL8 -251 T allele, which is associated with higher production of IL8/CXCL8, is also associated with a higher risk of developing acute suppurative form of AP, whereas IL8 / CXCL8 -251 A allele, which is associated with lower production of IL8/CXCL8, is associated with chronic nonsuppurative form of AP. This suggests a pivotal role for IL-8/CXCL8 in periapical disease because of its ability to induce chemotaxis and modulating the directed migration of neutrophils to the site of inflammation in response to microbial infection of pulp.

Validación del signo de palidez palmar para diagnóstico de anemia en niños de Bucaramanga (Colombia)

The prevalence of anemia in children from Santander (Colombia), is nearly 28 %. Economic conditions make it difficult to perform the hemoglobin test in all children with suspected anemia. The palmar pallor sign has been recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan-American Health Organization for the diagnosis of anemia in children aged less than 5 years old; however, the yield of the test has not been established in Colombian communities. The aims of the present study were to establish the efficiency of the test and to determine its reproducibility. The palmar pallor sign was evaluated in a sample of 167 children attending a low complexity hospital located in a deprived area of Bucaramanga city. Two pediatricians determined the presence of the sign, according to criteria from the "Integrated Management of Childhood Illness" strategy of the WHO and the Pan-American Health Organization. A hospital laboratory determined the concentration of hemoglobin in each of the children. Based on these data, the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value were determined and the agreement between observers was established. The prevalence of anemia in the sample evaluated was 28.74 %. Sensitivity was 33.33 %, specificity was 79.83 %, the positive predictive value was 40 % and the negative predictive value was 74.8 %. The reproducibility of the test was low. The yield of the test substantially improved when the hemoglobin cut-off point was reduced from 11 g/dl, which is the value proposed by the WHO, to 10.5 g/dl. Anemia is frequent in children aged less than 5 years old in Bucaramanga city. The Palmar pallor sign is a valuable tool for the diagnosis of severe anemia, but is much less useful in mild or moderate anemia. If the hemoglobin level proposed by the WHO were lower, the palmar pallor sign would be more useful.
