Solid dan liquid kompos untuk mendukung pangan lestari di Gampong Bueng Pageu Kecamatan Blang Bintang Aceh Besar [Solid and liquid compost to support sustainable food in Bueng Pageu Village, Blang Bintang Sub-District, Aceh Besar

The purpose of the service is to support the realization of sustainable food in Bueng Pageu Village, Blang Bintang Sub-District, Aceh Besar District. The activity is through increasing the capacity of farmers and PPLs with the technology of making solid and liquid compost easily and simply. The method used is a field school that involves the participation of farmers and PPLs directly who were previously given training on the technique of making solid and liquid compost and how to use it. The results of the activity showed that there has been an increase in the knowledge capacity of farmers in the manufacture and application of solid and liquid compost fertilizers reaching 52.87%. The decomposition process in producing solid compost takes 4 weeks, the results obtained are around 1200 kg with a potential economic value of Rp. 3,120,000 and 50 L of liquid compost with an economic value of Rp. 1,750,000. Making compost from agricultural waste and household waste can increase the community's revenue while overcoming health problems and environmental aesthetic value.

Intervensi Sistem Produksi Arang Briket Pada Unit Usaha Arang di Dusun Blang Bintang, Desa Blang Thuy, Kabupaten Aceh Besar Melalui Penggunaan Pencetak Arang Briket Sistem Ulir Kontinyu

The implementation of technological intervention in a coconut shell charcoal enterprise, facilitated by the integration of a screw briquette machine, has been a transformative initiative undertaken by the Naturi group in Blang Bintang, Blang Thuy Village, Aceh Jaya Sub-district, Aceh Besar District. The comprehensive approach to this intervention included a thorough site survey, extensive socialization efforts, meticulous procurement of equipment and materials, and dedicated training activities. The socialization phase, spanning a duration of two months, was instrumental in ensuring that the aims, objectives, and targets of the planned activities were not only understood but also internalized by the participants. The success of this phase lay in its ability to align with predefined scenarios, fostering a smooth and effective execution of subsequent activities. Results obtained from the intervention showcase the participants' successful acceptance and proficient execution of the introduced technologies. Given the potential risks associated with the handling of the delivered equipment, prioritizing work safety emerged as a critical aspect of the initiative. Looking forward, the focus of the initiative extends beyond its initial phase. Future considerations include strategies to enhance production capacity and the provision of adequate drying areas to meet growing demands. To ensure the longevity of the project, a collaborative effort between the implementer and participants has resulted in the establishment of a dedicated discussion forum through digital media. This platform serves as a dynamic space for ongoing dialogue, knowledge exchange, and the continuous improvement of the technological intervention.

Strategi Kepemimpinan Kepala Sekolah Terhadap Peran Guru dan Orang Tua dalam Meningkatkan Mutu Pendidikan Karakter di Gugus SD Negeri Blang Bintang Kabupaten Aceh Besar

This research aims to describe the planning and strategies carried out by school principals regarding the role of teachers and parents in improving the quality of character education in the Blang Bintang State Elementary School Cluster, Aceh Besar Regency. This research method is qualitative with a descriptive approach. The subjects of this research were school principals, teachers and parents of students in the Blang Bintang State Elementary School cluster. Research data analysis is carried out with descriptive qualitative techniques through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the research show that the principal's leadership strategy regarding the role of teachers and parents in improving the quality of character education in the Blang Bintang State Elementary School cluster is to plan various programs involving teachers and parents of students. The teacher's role is implemented in several forms of training activities such as increasing teacher competency related to educational character, comparative studies to other schools, providing opportunities to take courses, carrying out activities through teaching, modeling, strengthening and habituation. . Meanwhile, the principal's leadership strategy regarding the role of parents is carried out by building synergy through a personal and persuasive approach

Pengaruh Kompetensi Manajerial dan Kompetensi Kepribadian Kepala Sekolah Terhadap Kinerja Guru Sekolah Dasar Negeri di Gugus Blang Bintang Kabupaten Aceh Besar

This research aims to analyze and describe the influence of managerial competence and personality competence of school principals on the performance of State Elementary School teachers in the Blang Bintang State Elementary School Cluster, Aceh Besar Regency. This research uses a quantitative approach with an ex post facto design. The results of the research prove that there is a positive and significant influence on the performance of State Elementary School teachers in the Blang Bintang Cluster, Aceh Besar Regency with a relative contribution of 67.3% and an effective contribution of 38.1%. Personality competency has a positive and significant influence on the performance of State Elementary School teachers in the Blang Bintang Cluster, Aceh Besar Regency with a relative contribution of 32.7% and an effective contribution of 18.6%. The influence of the principal's managerial competence and personality competence simultaneously have a positive and significant influence on the performance of State Elementary School teachers in the Blang Bintang Cluster, Aceh Besar Regency. The percentage contribution of the two variables is shown by the coefficient of determination of 0.573, which means that the principal's managerial competence and the provision of personality competence can influence teacher performance by 56.7%.

Penyuluhan Kesehatan Tentang Hipertensi di Gampong Cot Jambo Kecamatan Blang Bintang Kabupaten Aceh Besar

Hypertension is still the highest health problem globally with its incidence increasing every year. This disease is characterized by increased blood pressure above 140/90 mmHg, dizziness, neck stiffness, and others. Hypertension is caused by many factors such as heredity, lifestyle, age, and others. According to the initial survey, the patient's knowledge was still lacking about hypertention, this was a problem in Gampong Cot Jambo Aceh Besar, so it was important to be educate. This activity is carried out in the Meunasah gampong Cot Jambo, Blang Bintang District. The method used in carrying out this service is by way of discussion, lecture and question and answer. The result show of this service found that the patient in participating in this counseling activity was very enthusiastic, which was marked by asking questions and a commitment to control blood pressure regularly and do a hypertension diet.

Pendampingan teknologi hidroponik fodder di Gampong Cot Karieng Kecamatan Blang Bintang, Aceh Besar (Fodder hydroponic technology assistance in Cot Karieng Village Blang Bintang Sub-District, Aceh Besar)

The livestock fattening business carried out by the partner group in Cot Karieng Village Blang Bintang Sub-District, Aceh Besar is a part-time business with a traditional pattern. Provision of feed only relies on efforts to find field grass every day. Meanwhile, the availability of forage is very fluctuating wherein during the rainy season, fresh forage is abundantly available, while during the dry season, it is very scarce. The purpose of this activity was to increase the knowledge and skills of partner groups in procuring animal feed, especially for the dry season. The solution offered was the use of hydroponic forage cultivation technology (hydroponic fodder). The seed of the fodder plant used was corn seed. The program implementation method was carried out through a participatory approach (partners were involved and worked together) starting from the initial stage to the final stage. In the first stage, coordination meetings were held so that all involved parties understood the scope of activities. In the second stage, training was carried out on hydroponic fodder cultivation methods, while assembling and applying technology which included making fodder houses (green-houses), installing green-house water networks and the process of cultivating hydroponic fodder plants was conducted in in the third stage. The stages of the cultivation process included washing and disinfecting the corn seeds by immersing them in a 1% chlorine solution for 15 minutes, then the seeds were spread out on trays. Seed moisture was always maintained by an aeroponic system every 1-2 hours for 10 minutes. After 14 days of cultivation, 1 kg of corn seed produced 6 kg of corn fodder. After washing and air-drying the corn fodder was ready to be given to livestock. The results achieved from all the implementation of this activity are the availability of facilities for the production of fodder hydroponic fodder system and the partner groups already have the skills of cultivating fodder using hydroponic fodder system.

Connecting Factors for the Application of Community-Based Total Sanitation in the Work Area of the Blang Bintang Health Center, Aceh Besar

Open defecation behavior occurs due to hereditary habits and habits since childhood. At this time, the government launched a program that is to stop open defecation with the Community-Based Total Sanitation Program. This program is an entry point towards total sanitation and is an effort to break the chain of pollution from human excrement to drinking, eating and other standard water. Community-based total sanitation is expected to be able to change people's habitual attitudes in an effort to improve environmental sanitation conditions. This study aims to determine the factors related to the implementation the program in the work area of the Blang Bintang Health Center, Aceh Besar, Aceh Province. This research is descriptive analytic in nature, carried out using a cross-sectional design method with a quantitative approach. The population in this study is the community in the working area of the Blang Bintang Health Center with a population of 1,990 people. The populations of samples were 97 respondents and data analysis used the Chi-Square Test. The results of the study gave respondents the first pillar of good Community-Based Total Sanitation implementation of 63.9%, respondents with less knowledge of 58.8%. In general, respondents with high school education were 69.1%, respondents' behavior towards the program was known 67% to have a positive attitude, 58.8% respondents stated that the role of health workers played a role, 69.1 the role of community leaders was more dominated respondents stated that they lacked participation of 64.9% that respondents had facilities

Partisipasi Petani Terhadap Ketersediaan Sumberdaya Air Irigasi Aceh Besar

The participation of farmers who own irrigated paddy fields has an effect on the availability of water resources because the participation of farmers in managing irrigation water resources can help the availability of water in paddy fields even though the availability of water is limited. One of the factors causing the non-optimal distribution of water and the long distance between the water source and the irrigated paddy fields causes an uneven distribution of water in the paddy fields so that some farmers use water pumps to irrigate the paddy fields. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of participation of paddy farmers. irrigation on the availability of water resources in Blang Bintang District, Aceh Besar District. The data analysis model used is Likert scale analysis. The results showed that the average level of participation of irrigated rice farmers on the availability of water resources was in the medium category or 63.82%. This shows that involvement in each activity is only when entering the rice planting season. Based on the partial test (t test) shows that the variables of land area (X1), income (X2), motivation (X3) and experience (X4) partially have no significant effect on the participation of irrigated rice farmers in the availability of water resources in Blang Bintang District, Aceh BesarRegency

Simultaneous landfill leachate treatment and electricity production by sediment microbial fuel cell

The sediment microbial fuel cell (SMFC) is a new technology that uses exoelectrogenic bacteria and organic compounds to transform chemical energy into electrical energy. The application of SMFC technology is gaining popularity since it can simultaneously reduce contaminants in wastewater and generate electricity. An SMFC performance is mainly governed by the kinetics of the electrodes within the fuel cell, of which the materials that make up the electrodes significantly impact their performance. The objective of the ongoing investigation was to study the performance of three types of electrodes for minimizing pollutants from landfill leachate wastewater while also generating electrical energy. Sediment and leachate samples were taken from the Regional Landfill wastewater treatment facility in Blang Bintang, Aceh Besar, the Province of Aceh. Three transparent acrylic reactors with a length, width, and height of 45 cm, 20 cm, and 12 cm, respectively, were employed in this experiment. The electrode materials utilized in this study were zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), and iron (Fe), with each electrode having a surface area of 124 cm2. Temperature, pH, voltage, and carbonaceous compound removal measured as COD were used to assess the SMFC performance. The study results showed that the temperature and pH of the three reactors have a similar trend, and the values are not much different at 24.36±0.25°C and 9±0.03, respectively. The reactor installed with Cu electrode produced the maximum electrical voltage of 470 mV, whereas those with Fe and Zn had the highest voltages of 107 mV and 23 mV, respectively. The percentage of COD removal for reactors equipped with Zn, Cu, and Fe electrodes was 40.70%, 41.09%, and 41.23%, respectively. Although the COD removal by each reactor of different electrode materials did not show a significant difference, the reactor with Cu electrode gave better performance when viewed from the electrical voltage.

Analysis of Soil Quality Index type of land use on dry land in Blang Bintang sub-district, Aceh Besar Regency

This study aimed at examining the analysis of the soil quality index of dry land use on dry land in Blang Bintang District, Aceh Besar District. This research was conducted using a descriptive method based on the results of surveys and field observations as well as laboratory analysis. General biophysical conditions of the area and physical and chemical characteristics of the soil obtained from observations and indicators of soil quality through soil analysis in the laboratory. Soil sampling points were determined using the purposive sampling method, namely the points that have been determined on selected dry land in Blang Bintang District, Regency of Aceh Besar. The moderate soil quality index in the upland land use type is one of the reasons for the sampling of the Inceptisol soil type in the Blang Bintang sub-district, which has less fertile soil characteristics. Upland land use is the percentage of sand (57%) which is greater than the percentage of dust (36%) and clay (6%). This can be seen in the low content of C-organic (1.19), H2O, K-dd, P-available and N-total and high volume weight (1.34).

Peningkatan Motivasi pada Pembelajaran Akidah Akhlak melalui Media Audio Visual di MAS Muta’allimin Blang Bintang

The teacher is a learning component that plays an important and main role, because the success of the teaching and learning process is largely determined by the teacher factor. The teaching and learning process of teachers at MAS Muta'allimin Meulayo Blang Bintang generally still uses the lecture method and only uses blackboard media in teaching, so students get bored easily and some fall asleep. This study aims to determine student responses to the use of audio-visual media in Akidah Akhlak learning in class X MAS Muta'allimin Meulayo-Blang Bintang and to determine students' motivation to learn by using audio-visual media in learning Akidah Akhlak in class X MAS Muta'allimin Meulayo. -Blang Bintang. The method used in this research is classroom action research or commonly abbreviated as CAR. Classroom action research (CAR) is action research conducted with the aim of improving the quality of classroom learning practices. The results of the research on student responses to the use of audio-visual media in the first cycle with a percentage of 77, 88% included in the category of good criteria. While in the second cycle with a percentage of 82, 69% and belongs to the very good category. Student learning motivation in the first cycle with a percentage of 80.6% is in the good category, and in the second cycle has increased with a percentage of 98.8% and is classified into the very good category. The use of audio-visual media in Aqidah Morals lessons can increase students' learning motivation.

Removal of Organic and Nitrogen Compounds from Domestic Landfill Leachate by Microalgae

Water pollution by leachate has been widely reported in many regions in Indonesia. Landfill leachate contains high concentrations of organic and nitrogen, suitable for microalgae growth. Microalgae utilization for leachate treatment can be a promising alternative because it can simultaneously reduce pollutants and produce biomass. This study was conducted to identify microalgae that can grow well in leachate and examine mixed microalgae cultures' ability to reduce leachate pollutants. Microalgae obtained from a leachate treatment plant in Blang Bintang, Aceh Besar, were grown in a laboratory-scale photobioreactor. Microalgae identification was carried out morphologically using a microscope, while its performance in reducing pollutants was observed by COD, BOD, nitrate, and nitrite. The results showed that six microalgae species reduced leachate pollutants, namely Synedra acus, Spirulina sp., Euglena sp., Trichocerca sp., Paramecium sp., and Closteriopsis longissima, with Euglena sp. (40.63%) as the most abundant. The performance of mixed culture microalgae in this study showed promising results. COD, BOD, nitrate, and nitrite removal of 76.26%, 75.48%, 74.86%, and 73.52%, respectively, was observed during the experiment. As microalgae can grow well in leachate, in addition to reducing pollutants, such a treatment system can be integrated to produce biofuels and other bioproducts from microalgae biomass.

Detection Of Antibiotic Residues in Eggs of Layer Chickens and Knowledge of Animal Officers About Antibiotics

The chicken farming industry in Indonesia cannot be separated from the use of antibiotics as a curative effort in controlling the disease. Its use is either via injection, soaking, or as a feed additive (growth promoter) mixed in feed. Inappropriate use of antibiotics causes allergic reactions or resistance and the possibility of causing poisoning, residues in livestock tissues or organs that are harmful to human health when consuming them. This study aimed to determine the antibiotic residues in eggs and the level of knowledge of livestock workers on the use of antibiotics in livestock. The detection of antibiotic residues was conducted using the agar plate diffusion method by Kirby Bauer with the disk diffusion technique using Escherichia coli and Salmonella sp. As indicator bacteria. The results were analysed using a qualitative descriptive approach. The samples were 76 eggs taken from the Regional Technical Implementation Unit of the Non-Ruminant Livestock Center of the Aceh Livestock Service in Blang Bintang and Saree Aceh Besar. Chloramphenicol antibiotic was used as a test medium and as control by calculating the diameter of the inhibition zone formed on MHA media. furthermore, a cross-sectional study design was used and questionnaires were distributed to 14 livestock officers to understand the knowledge of officers on the use of antibiotics in livestock by using google form. The data were analyzed using the chi-square test through the SPSS 22.0 program. The results showed that the eggs and feed samples were negative from antibiotic residue. There was no relationship between feeding and antibiotic residues in eggs and laying hens feed. However, only 35.7% of officers had good knowledge about proper antibiotic usage. This means continuing awareness to the officers regarding the use of antibiotics either for treatment of diseases or as feed promoter are essential.

Analysis of Soil Quality Index of mixed garden land use type on dry land in Blang Bintang sub-district, Aceh Besar district

This research was conducted by using a descriptive method based on the results of surveys and field observations and laboratory analysis. Field survey activities were carried out to obtain primary data in the form of general biophysical conditions of the area and physical and chemical characteristics of the soil obtained from observations and indicators of soil quality through soil analysis in the laboratory. Soil sampling points were determined using the purposive sampling method, namely points that have been determined in selected dry land areas in Blang Bintang District, Aceh Besar District. Soil sampling for analysis of chemical properties was carried out by drilling. Soil drilling was carried out to determine the thickness of the soil solum. Sampling was focused only on the top soil layer with a thickness of 0 - 20 cm. In mixed garden land use type (LUT) 5 - 6 sample points were taken which were then analyzed in the laboratory. From the data from the soil analysis, the fertility status of each type of land use will be determined. Field observations and sampling were carried out at each observation point (LUT) in the Blang Bintang District, Aceh Besar District.The soil characteristics and a large percentage of sand compared to the percentage of silt and clay. The low content of clay fraction in both lands affected the formation of soil aggregates. The position and composition of organic matter greatly determine the process of forming stability and distribution of aggregates. Sandy soil in mixed garden vegetation is difficult to absorb water and nutrients due to large grains and small surface area per unit weight. The soil which is dominated by the sand fraction is porous with high aeration pores. Smooth aeration properties can increase the oxidationof organic matter.

Prevalence and Intensity of Ectoparasites on Cultivated Catfish (Clarias sp.) in Aquaculture Ponds and Bioflocs System in Aceh Besar, Indonesia.

The purpose of this research is to determine the intensity and the prevalence of ectoparasites found in catfish biofloc aquaculture ponds and traditional catfish in Aceh Besar. The research was conducted at the Fish Quarantine Agency for Quality Control and Safety of Fishery Products (BPKIPM) Blang Bintang. This research used a descriptive method while the catfish samples were taken using a random sampling method. The sample of catfish is 100 samples which are devided into 50 catfish with biofloc system and 50 catfish using the traditional system. The organs observed in catfish are fins (back, chest, tail, anal, stomach), gills, and mucus. The results of this study indicate that there were 3 types of ectoparasites have been identified, Vorticella sp., Trichodina sp., and Dactylogyrus sp. The highest prevalence rate is infection parasite by Dactylogyrus sp. in Leubok village, Aceh Besar which use a traditional system, and it is categorized as “always” or “very severe infection” (100%) while for the biofloc system in the village of Reukih Dayah, Indrapuri, Aceh Besar it is categorized as “moderate or “moderate infection”(88%). For the lowest prevalence rate in ectoparasites is Vorticella sp. It is found in biofloc ponds and categorized as “rare” infections about (2%). The highest level of parasite intensity is infection with Dactylogyrus sp. Both media are categorized as “medium”. The differences in the intensity value of the two media are biofloc media has an intensity of 22.7 meanwhile the traditional has 11.3.

ENDOPARASITES INFECTION IN BLOOD COCKLE (Anadara granosa) IN ACEH BESAR WATERS, INDONESIA

This study aims to investigate the type, prevalence, and intensity of endoparasites infecting the organs of blood cockles (Anadara granosa) in the waters of Aceh Besar, Indonesia. A purposive sampling method was conducted from March to August 2020 consisting of two sampling sites, namely the waters of Ujung Pancu and Krueng Raya. Endoparasite identification and analysis was carried out at the Parasite Laboratory of the Fish Quarantine Center, Quality Control and Safety of Fishery Products in Blang Bintang, Aceh Besar. The results showed that there were two types of endoparasites living in the blood cockles: namely, Perkinsus sp., which belong to the group Protozoa, and Spiroxys sp. of the Nematode class. The prevalence levels of Perkinsus sp. was 73.33% and were found in the waters of Ujung Pancu; while the lowest prevalence level was 20% in blood cockles that were infected with Spiroxys sp., which were found both in Ujung Pancu and Krueng Raya. The highest intensity level was infections of Perkinsus sp. with a value of 89 ind/species in the Krueng Raya site. The lowest intensity value was infections of Spiroxys with a value of 2 ind/species in Krueng Raya and 2.3 ind/species in Ujung Pancu

HUBUNGAN SIMBIOSIS MASYARAKAT ACEH BESAR DENGAN TRADISI HINDU

The people of Aceh, which are known as the majority are Muslim, have various customs and traditions and cultures. However, some of the culture and customs of the Acehnese people do not come purely from Islam, but come from Hindu culture, such as Kenduri Blang, Kenduri Laot and Peusijuek culture. Peusijuek is a Hindu culture that has been Islamicized in accordance with Islamic law and has been carried out from generation to generation until now, the Islamization of Hindu culture occurred during the time of Sulthan Ali Mughayat Syah. The symbiotic relationship that occurred between the Acehnese people and the Hindu tradition had occurred thousands of years ago, because before Islam entered Aceh, Hinduism developed earlier in Aceh, so the culture used by the Acehnese at that time was Hindu culture, a symbiotic relationship. This was preceded by trade relations to establishing friendships between nations as well as resulting in cultural contact and inter-ethnic relations, which developed naturally in Aceh at that time. The method in this research is descriptive-qualitative. The data collection technique was carried out through interviews, observation, literature review by reading a number of books related to this research and documentation. The results showed that some of the Blang Bintang community acknowledged that the customs prevailing in Aceh were still influenced by Hindu culture. One of them is the peusijuek culture. The people of Blang Bintang believe that Peusijuek is a Hindu culture that has long developed in Aceh as a legacy from previous ancestors. However, things that are contrary to Islamic teachings have been adjusted after the Islamic Religion came and spread in Aceh.

Study of coffee husk ash addition for clay soil stabilization

Industrial solid wastes have become a difficult problem in some developing countries, especially in Indonesia. The environmentally friendly issue regarding how to decrease industrial wastes by reuse or recycling process has become famous in recent years. Coffee husk ashes in this research were attained from burned waste coffee husk which can be considered as solid waste material from the coffee processing industry. In this study, clay soil obtained from Cot Bagie Village, Blang Bintang, Aceh was mixed with coffee husk ashes. Several soil physical properties test was conducted such as specific gravity, Atterberg limit, and grain size distribution by following ASTM standard. The physical parameter of soil was evaluated with the addition of 3%, 6%, 9%, and 12% coffee husk ashes by soil dry weight. The result shows that the physical properties of soil were improved if compared to untreated soil. A further mechanical laboratory test in soil mechanics was suggested for more advanced analysis of effect in soil-coffee husk ashes mixing.

Analysis of the Livelihood Vulnerability Index for Rice Farmers Households Due to Climate Change in Aceh Besar District

Agriculture is highly dependent on climatic conditions for success in achieving maximum production not only influenced by superior seeds and technological mechanisms. One of the impacts that can be caused by climate change is to reduce agricultural productivity. One area or location that is affected by climate variability and the level of vulnerability and resilience can be identified is Aceh Besar district. The data obtained in this study can be analyzed quantitatively. The analytical methods used in this research are descriptive - quantitative analysis, Estimated Livelihood Index (LVI), risk analysis, and adaptation and mitigation strategies. The results showed that the vulnerability index through the calculation of LVI-IPCC in the category of vulnerability, Montasik area is more susceptible to drought; from the sensitivity category, Blang Bintang area is more sensitive to vulnerability; and from the adaptive capacity category, the Montasic region is more adaptable to climate change. The risks of climate change that are felt by farmers are in the form of decreased production, experiencing crop failure, more frequent droughts, dry agricultural land, difficult cultivated land, decreased volume of water sources, and pest outbreaks. The highest risk experienced by farmers in the Blang Bintang and Montasik areas is drought, with a percentage value of 80% in the Montasik area and 88% in the Blang Bintang area. The adaptation strategy taken by farmers to climate change is to form organic businesses, water-efficient farming, intercropping, rotating crops, planting dry-resistant varieties, and maintaining irrigation channels. The strategy mostly done by farmers in the Blang Bintang area is to do crop rotation and plant dry-resistant varieties, while in the Montasik area the farmers do more crop rotation.

The Effect of Leachate Resirculation on The Greenhouse Gases Emission from Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Landfill in Tropical Climate Region

Indonesia is facing serious problem with huge amount of Municipal solid waste (MSW), whilst landfilling still the main option to dealing with it. The landfilling of the MSW is associate to the environmental issue, especially due to the leachate and landfill gas emissions. The leachate produces which is containing hazardous materials, while the landfill gas which mainly containing CO2 and CH4 that categorized as greenhouse gases. The leachate and landfill gas emissions were influenced by many factors, including climatic condition. This research was aimed to determine the effect of leachate recirculation on leachate production and landfill gas emissions of MSW landfill in tropical climate region. The experiment was carried out by using 2 landfill simulator reactors (LSRs) made of high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe with 50 cm OD and 150 cm length. The sample used was collected from the Blang Bintang landfill, a regional landfill constructed to accept MSW from Banda Aceh municipality and Aceh Besar District. The LSRs were operated under difference operation mode, the first LSR were operate without leachate recirculation, however a certain amount of water was added to simulated the MSW landfill operated under conventional method. While the second LSR were operate with leachate recirculation to represent the MSW landfill operated under bioreactor landfill mode. Results of this study show the leachate recirculation has in significant affects on the rate of waste degradation and the landfill gas production. The highest CH4 concentration in landfill gas emission first and second LSRs were about 58% and 59%, respectively. This relatively small difference is probably due to the high rainfall in the tropics region. This results indicated that the potential of MSW landfill in tropical climate region as renewable energy, either operated under conventional or bioreactor landfills.
