Dear Readers, Dear Authors, Dear Reviewers, Welcome back to yet another year of exploring the vast universe of (bio)chemical engineering, biotechnology, and (biomedical) process engineering, to name but a few. Since there are so many (engineering) fields that ChemBioEng Reviews covers, it is difficult to summarize them in one short sentence. But taking your growing interest in this journal as an indicator, this diversity is also what makes us special. And it helped us to reach the first bigger milestone in the history of ChemBioEng Reviews: the fifth installment of the journal. Thank you for your continuing support! One of the main pillars of a great journal, apart from the quality of the articles, is the visibility for others. The measurements for citations such as the impact factor are well known in the research community and everybody knows that any citation of your article will increase the journal's impact factor, thereby increasing the visibility of your article and therefore the relevance of your research. If this is the ultimate judging tool remains written on an entirely different paper. But, we believe, however, what is still often not appreciated enough is the impact of social media and other online resources as well as how frequently the article was accessed to read. And this is where our authors come into play: In addition to citing your articles, you can also promote them on your institutional websites (e.g., publication lists) or in social media and professional networking sites (Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.). Please do not upload the full text, but rather link to the original on Wiley Online Library. This is not only the ethically correct variant, but will also increase your rank in search engines like Google, which use criteria such as the number of links to items. It also allows the inclined reader to access other valuable information, such as Supporting Information, reference linking, and updated errata information. And finally, by directing readers to your article, the access number of your paper will be higher, thus improving your ranking in our “most accessed” list. The most cited article to date is A Review on Chitin and Chitosan Polymers: Structure, Chemistry, Solubility, Derivatives, and Applications by Zargar et al. while the most accessed article in the last year was Bioethylene Production from Ethanol: A Review and Techno-economical Evaluation by Mohsenzadeh et al. Wouldn't you like to challenge that? Altmetrics is collecting data on the dissemination of your publication throughout the online and social media world. This includes, but is not limited to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Mendeley, Wikipedia, and many more. While it is not the ultimate answer to all questions, it gives an indication as to where your article is discussed and who has been exposed to it. It is also faster than citation data that are only published retroactively. The scores can be accessed on our website from the article's main page, by clicking on the small “Am score” beneath the header with the publication information. With this, we leave you to discover this newest issue of ChemBioEng Reviews. As always, we remain open for your suggestions and look forward to receiving your manuscripts. Best wishes for 2018! Yours sincerely, Cordula Buse (Deputy Editor) and Barbara Boeck (Editor-in-Chief) Cordula Buse Barbara Boeck
