Adaptive Identification of Nonlinear Friction and Load Torque for PMSM Drives via a Parallel-Observer-Based Network With Model Compensation

Acquiring accurate knowledge of nonlinear friction and load torque is of great interest for optimizing the control behavior of permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives. In this work, a friction-and-load adaptive identification scheme based on a parallel-observer-based network with model compensation (POBN-MC) is presented. The developed network possesses a parallel structure consisting of the designed two novel observers, which involve a gain-adaptation super-twisting load torque observer and a variable-learning-rate Adaline inertia observer. A non-empirical friction model is proposed to capture friction, forming the model compensation part that is exploited for correcting the torque input of the network. With a two-step mechanism derived from the POBN-MC, the proposed scheme attains the online adaptive identification of the friction and load torque in a manner that integrates both accuracy and simplicity. In the first step, an explicit mapping relationship between the nonlinear friction torque and the rotor speed is determined with the speed response triggered by the natural deceleration. The second step accomplishes the online observation with regard to friction-and-load information matching the real-time operating conditions. Sufficient theoretical analyses, as well as the validations of numerous simulations and experiments, are presented to support the suggested scheme.

Permanent magnet synchronous motor: chaos control using single controller, synchronization and circuit implementation

The aim of this paper is to address the problem of the electronic implementation of chaos control using a single controller and synchronization of chaotic permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). Firstly, different dynamical behaviors of the PMSM including steady state, periodic and chaotic behaviors are found using numerical methods such as two-dimensional largest Lyapunov exponents graph associated with two parameters of PMSM. Secondly, two simple and single controllers are designed and added to the chaotic PMSM in order to suppress chaotic behavior. The performance of the two proposed simple and single controllers is illustrated by numerical simulations. Thirdly, controllers are designed to achieve synchronization of unidirectional coupled identical chaotic PMSMs. Numerical simulations are also used to verify the effectiveness of the synchronization. Finally, the existence of chaos in PMSM and the physical feasibility of the proposed two simple and single controllers as well as the chaos synchronization are validated through the circuit implementation on OrCAD-PSpice software. The circuit implementation results comply fairly with those of the numerical simulation results and establish that the existence of chaotic behavior in the PMSM and the achievement of chaos synchronization in unidirectional coupled identical PMSMs designed and the two single controllers designed are effective and successful in suppressing chaotic behavior in PMSM.

Chaotic whale optimizer variants for parameters estimation of the chaotic behavior in Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) is widely used in the industrial applications because of its simple construction and its high efficiency. Unfortunately, if a small change has occurred in the system parameters, the PMSM displays an unexpected performance which is known as a chaotic behavior. To control this undesirable behavior, it is crucial to propose a robust tool to extract the model parameters accurately and rapidly. In this work, novel developed optimization techniques called Chaotic Whale Optimization variants (CWOA) are proposed where the standard Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) is integrated with different ten chaos maps to tune some of its parameters. Four CWOA variants are introduced, tested and validated mathematically over CEC 2017. In addition, CWOA variants and the standard WOA version are proposed to estimate the parameters of the chaotic behavior in PMSM at both of the off-line and the on-line operating conditions without and with noise. The results of the proposed algorithms are compared with that of the previous techniques in literature to test their efficiency, reliability, and accuracy. An intensive statistical analysis is accomplished for extra validation of the superiority of the proposed variants. The overall results indicate that the CWOA-II variant with the logistic chaos map offers the best performance among all other variants where it provides lower error values between the estimated and the original system performance, higher convergence speed and shorter execution time. This eventually helps to provide an accurate and fast description of the chaotic region to ensure a fast control of the motor as well as a fast protection from damage.

Chaos Control of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor via Adaptive Sliding Mode Variable Structure Scheme

When system parameters falling into a certain area or under some working conditions, the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) will appear chaos phenomenon, which threatens the secure and stable operation of drive system. So this paper proposes a robust adaptive sliding mode control strategy aiming at the complex chaotic behavior of PMSM. Using the sliding mode control technique, a time varying surface is constructed. Then an adaptive gain of the robust control law is established considering uncertainties and external interference in PMSM. So the phenomenon of chaos in PMSM system will be eliminated using proposed controller. Finally, stability analysis will be given based on Lyapunov stability theory. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed adaptive sliding mode control scheme.

Chaos control of permanent magnet synchronous motors via unidirectional correlation

Permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) displays chaotic oscillation with certain parameter values, which threatens the secure operation of the power system. An improved unidirectional correlation scheme is first proposed to control the undesirable chaotic behavior in PMSM. Simulation analysis shows that the presented control scheme is effective and one can control the PMSM to equilibrium point or non-equilibrium point by choosing appropriate correlation factor.
