Quantum phases of Rydberg atoms on a frustrated triangular-lattice array.

The neutral atoms coupled to a highly excited Rydberg state on a two-dimensional triangular lattice are investigated by employing the density matrix renormalization group technique in the matrix product state form. The full ground-state phase diagram as a function of blockade radius and the detuning of the exciting laser is determined by the behavior of entanglement entropy. We find several quantum phases including stripe-ordered and symmetry-breaking density-wave-ordered phases featured with regular excitation patterns of different excitation densities ρ = 1/3, 1/4, and 1/7. In addition, a ρ = 2/3 ordered phase and an interesting "order-by-disorder" phase, which has been prepared experimentally, are also observed in this work. Our work provides an exploration of the possible quantum phases that can occur in a triangularly arrayed Rydberg system, and thus could be a faithful theoretical guide for further experimental research.

Behavior of entanglement entropy near periodic orbits in a hamiltonian dynamical system

Entanglement entropy growth is studied under a form of dynamics that is based on iteration. This approach allows the investigation of the role of decoherence in producing increases of entropy. This has important consequences as far as the study of decoherence is concerned. It is indicated that results are generally independent of Hilbert space partitioning. It is seen that a deep relationship between classical dynamical entropy and the growth of entanglement entropy exists in this kind of model. The former acts to bound the latter and in the asymptotic region, they tend to a common limit.

Entanglement entropy in multi-leg Kitaev ladders with interface defects

The entanglement of different parts of a quantum system is expected to be proportional to the common interface area. Therefore alterations across the interface will lead to changes on the behavior of entanglement entropy. In this work, the effects of bond defects at the boundaries of Kitaev ladders are considered. We find a logarithmic scaling for the ground state entanglement entropy between the two pieces. The prefactor of the logarithm (effective central charge (ECC)) varies continuously with the defect strength. The energy dispersion is also obtained and sharp features in the von Neumann entanglement entropy are observed when bands cross. Phase diagrams for homogeneous Kitaev Hamiltonians with nonzero superconducting paring potential are presented. They show that for chains/legs that are connected to one another through inter-leg hopping, when certain parameters are fine-tuned, the phase transition lines correspond to either single or double gapless modes dispersion. Moreover, even when the defect is turned on, the ECC for ladders with two gapless modes is exactly twice the one for ladders with a single gapless mode. On the other hand, in the absence of superconductivity, we can tune the parameters to obtain homogeneous systems whose number of gapless modes is up to the number of legs of the ladder. Additionally, in this situation, the presence of the bond defect makes the ECC becomes smaller than the number of gapless modes times the ECC of Hamiltonians with one gapless mode. Furthermore, the relationship between the cases with and without superconductivity is presented.

Lattice study of Rényi entanglement entropy in SU(Nc) lattice Yang-Mills theory with Nc=2 , 3, 4

We consider the second R\'enyi entropy ${S}^{(2)}$ in pure lattice gauge theory with $SU(2)$, $SU(3)$, and $SU(4)$ gauge groups, which serves as a first approximation for the entanglement entropy and the entropic $C$-function. We compare the results for different gauge groups using scale setting via the string tension. We confirm that at small distances $l$ our approximation for the entropic $C$-function $C(l)$, calculated for the slab-shaped entangled region of width $l$, scales as ${N}_{c}^{2}\ensuremath{-}1$ in accordance with its interpretation in terms of free gluons. At larger distances $l$ $C(l)$ is found to approach zero for ${N}_{c}=3$, 4, somewhat more rapidly for ${N}_{c}=4$ than for ${N}_{c}=3$. This finding supports the conjectured discontinuity of the entropic $C$-function in the large-$N$ limit, which was found in the context of AdS/CFT correspondence and which can be interpreted as transition between colorful quarks and gluons at small distances and colorless confined states at long distances. On the other hand, for $SU(2)$ gauge group the long-distance behavior of the entropic $C$-function is inconclusive so far. There exists a small region of lattice spacings yielding results consistent with ${N}_{c}=3$, 4, while results from other lattice spacings deviate without clear systematics. We discuss several possible causes for discrepancies between our results and the behavior of entanglement entropy in holographic models.

Exotic entanglement scaling of Heisenberg antiferromagnet on honeycomb lattice

The scaling behaviors of entanglement entropy (EE) against dimension cut-off of density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) in an anisotropic Heisenberg model on honeycomb lattice are investigated. In the gapped dimer phase, the entanglement spectrum (ES) exhibits large gaps and the EE shows an unexpected linear scaling before convergence. In contrast in the gapless Neel phase, the ES decays in a much smoother way, and the EE scales logarithmically. Our calculations show that the linear scaling in the dimer phase originates from one dominant Schmidt number plus n (nearly) degenerate Schmidt numbers that are much smaller than the dominant one. The non-trivial entanglement-scaling properties of the dimer and Neel phases could potentially be used for their detections.

A generalized volume law for entanglement entropy on the fuzzy sphere

We investigate entanglement entropy in a scalar field theory on the fuzzy sphere. The theory is realized by a matrix model. In our previous study, we confirmed that entanglement entropy in the free case is proportional to the square of the boundary area of a focused region. Here we argue that this behavior of entanglement entropy can be understood by the fact that the theory is regularized by matrices, and further examine the dependence of entanglement entropy on the matrix size. In the interacting case, by performing Monte Carlo simulations, we observe a transition from a generalized volume law, which is obtained by integrating the square of area law, to the square of area law.

Holographic shear viscosity in hyperscaling violating theories without translational invariance

In this paper we investigate the ratio of shear viscosity to entropy density, $\eta/s$, in hyperscaling violating geometry with lattice structure. We show that the scaling relation with hyperscaling violation gives a strong constraint to the mass of graviton and usually leads to a power law of temperature, $\eta/s\sim T^\kappa$. We find the exponent $\kappa$ can be greater than two such that the new bound for viscosity raised in arXiv:1601.02757 is violated. Our above observation is testified by constructing specific solutions with UV completion in various holographic models. Finally, we compare the boundedness of $\kappa$ with the behavior of entanglement entropy and conjecture a relation between them.

Holographic entanglement entropy in metal/superconductor phase transition with exponential nonlinear electrodynamics

We study the holographic entanglement entropy in metal/superconductor phase transition with exponential nonlinear electrodynamics (ENE) in four and five dimensional spacetimes. We find that the holographic entanglement entropy is powerful tool in studying the properties of the holographic phase transition. For the operator $\langle\mathcal{O}_{+}\rangle$, we observe that the entanglement entropy in 4-dimensional spacetime decreases in metal phase but changes non-monotonously in superconducting phase with the increase of the ENE parameter. Interestingly, the change of the entanglement entropy in 5-dimensional spacetime for both the phases is monotonous as the ENE factor alters. For the operator $\langle\mathcal{O}_{-}\rangle$, we show that the behavior of entanglement entropy in four and five dimensions changes monotonously for both phases as one tunes the strength of the ENE. Furthermore, for both the operators the entanglement entropy in four or five dimensional black hole increases with the increase of the width of the region.

Entanglement entropy in scalar field theory on the fuzzy sphere

We study entanglement entropy on the fuzzy sphere. We calculate it in a scalar field theory on the fuzzy sphere, which is given by a matrix model. We use a method that is based on the replica method and applicable to interacting fields as well as free fields. For free fields, we obtain the results consistent with the previous study, which serves as a test of the validity of the method. For interacting fields, we perform Monte Carlo simulations at strong coupling and see a novel behavior of entanglement entropy.

Holographic entanglement entropy in superconductor phase transition with dark matter sector

In this paper, we investigate the holographic phase transition with dark matter sector in the AdS black hole background away from the probe limit. We discuss the properties of phases mostly from the holographic topological entanglement entropy of the system. We find the entanglement entropy is a good probe to the critical temperature and the order of the phase transition in the general model. The behaviors of entanglement entropy at large strip size suggest that the area law still holds when including dark matter sector. We also conclude that the holographic topological entanglement entropy is useful in detecting the stability of the phase transitions. Furthermore, we derive the complete diagram of the effects of coupled parameters on the critical temperature through the entanglement entropy and analytical methods.

Zero modes and divergence of entanglement entropy

We investigate the cause of the divergence of the entanglement entropy for the free scalar fields in $(1+1)$ and $(D + 1)$ dimensional space-times. In a canonically equivalent set of variables, we show explicitly that the divergence in the entanglement entropy of the continuum field in $(1 + 1)-$ dimensions is due to the accumulation of large number of near-zero frequency modes as opposed to the commonly held view of divergence having UV origin. The feature revealing the divergence in zero modes is related to the observation that the entropy is invariant under a hidden scaling transformation even when the Hamiltonian is not. We discuss the role of dispersion relations and the dimensionality of the space-time on the behavior of entanglement entropy.

ENTANGLEMENT AND INFORMATION TRANSFER PROTOCOL BETWEEN TWO QUBITS

Based on the general unitary operations of two-qubit system, we investigate the dynamics of information swapping between two qubits. We briefly describe the general behavior of entanglement entropy and the purity taking into account two classes of initially states, either product state or entangled state. Using the phenomenon of information swapping, we suggest a theoretical protocol to transform the coded information from sender to the receiver.
