Preface

2024 3rd International Conference on Advances in Modern Physics Sciences and Engineering Technology (PSET 2024) was held in Wuhan, China during June 29-30, 2024. The PSET 2024 is organized by National Institute of High Mathematics (INdAM), Italy; Complex Engineering Systems (OA Journal Editorial Office) and technically supported by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; University of Victoria, Canada; Politecnico di Milano, Italy and Rongzhi Sciences and Technology Center, China. The conference program included keynote, oral, and poster presentations from scientists working in similar areas, aiming to establish platforms for collaborative research projects and to explore potential opportunities for international cooperation in the fields of Modern Physics Sciences and Engineering Technology. This year, we received an overwhelming response from the scientific community, with a total of 57 paper submissions. Each submission underwent a rigorous peer-review process, ensuring that only the highest quality research was selected. After careful consideration and evaluation by our esteemed review panel, 21 papers were accepted for presentation at the conference. The selected papers represent a diverse range of topics, reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of modern physics and engineering technology. From quantum state implementation based on topological insulators to cutting-edge advancements in engineering applications, the research presented here pushes the boundaries of current knowledge and opens new avenues for future exploration. We hope that the proceedings of PSET 2024 will inspire and stimulate further research and collaboration among scientists, engineers, and researchers worldwide. Clinical, serological and therapeutic profile of ocular toxoplasmosis diagnosed at Batna University Hospital, Algeria

Objectives. Toxoplasmosis is a widespread parasitic infection worldwide, caused by an obligate intracellular protozoan called Toxoplasma gondii. Ocular toxoplasmosis is a common condition, being the main cause of infection affecting the posterior part of the eye. In Algeria, the actual prevalence of this infection remains poorly documented. It is in this context, we undertook this study with the aim of evaluating the seroprevalence of ocular toxoplasmosis diagnosed at Batna University Hospital and identifying the clinical and therapeutic characteristics. Materials and Methods. This prospective, descriptive, crosssectional study is conducted in the parasitology laboratory of Batna University Hospital, over a period of 27 months, from April 2020 to June 2023, sera of patients suspected of ocular toxoplasmosis as well as their retinal angiographies were received and analyzed. Diagnosis was established by measuring IgG and IgM by ELISA in the blood, compared with radiological, clinical and therapeutic data. Results. Among the 37 patients suspected of toxoplasmic chorioretinitis, 21 were serologically positive and no aqueous humor sample could be taken. The seroprevalence of probable ocular toxoplasmosis in our sample is thus 56.75%, there was a diversity of ages, ranging from 10 days to 65 years, the distribution by age shows that the two age groups that predominate in this study are those from 30 to 40 years, the levels of antitoxoplasmic IgG vary from 25 IU to 715 IU, in our series, the main reason for consultation was a decrease in visual acuity and the involvement was unilateral in the majority of cases, we collected isolated fresh foci 3 times, while the others presented a combination of fresh and scar foci, all patients in our sample followed an identical treatment regimen, combining two antibiotics (Sulfamethoxazole / Trimethoprim) and a bolus of corticosteroids. Conclusion: Ocular toxoplasmosis, whether acquired or congenital, remains one of the most significant clinical manifestations during infection with the T. gondii parasite

The Contribution of Postoperative Analgesia Protocols to the Management of Acute Postoperative Pain in the OrthopedicTraumatology Surgery Department at Batna University Hospital

Introduction and Objectives. The existence of protocols was identified as a positive element for the quality of postoperative acute pain management. We conducted a survey aimed at evaluating the impact of postoperative analgesia protocols on the management of acute postoperative pain in the orthopedic-traumatology surgery department at Batna University Hospital. Methods. A descriptive and evaluative monocentric study was conducted with 5 doctors and 37 caregivers over three months in 2015 before the launch of the quality assurance approach, and over three months in 2017. This study aimed at evaluating the impact of postoperative analgesia protocols on the management of acute postoperative pain in the orthopedic-traumatology surgery department at Batna University Hospital. Qualitative and quantitative parameters were studied, and data analysis was performed using SPSS software. Results. The reevaluation audit showed that 4 out of 5 doctors and 91.9% of nurses confirmed the availability of standardized written protocols for postoperative analgesia and the diagnosis and treatment of complications within the orthopedic-traumatology surgery department at Batna University Hospital. Conclusion. The positive contribution of postoperative analgesia protocols to the management of acute postoperative pain within the orthopedic-traumatology surgery department at Batna University Hospital has been confirmed.

Les facteurs de risque d’acquisition des infections à BMR: Etude analytique

In recent years, there has been a considerable increase in the prevalence of bacteria increasingly resistant to multiple families of antibiotics, which constitutes a major problem for public health. To determine the prevalence and different risk factors for the acquisition of multi-resistant bacteria. This is an analytical and prospective study including patients hospitalized in the Batna University Hospital during the period from January 2023 to March 2023 presenting a documented infection with isolation of sensitive or multi-resistant strains. An operating sheet based on the different risk factors for acquiring multi-resistant bacteria has been established. We collected 250 patients. There are 160 men and 90 women with an average age of 44 years. Of all the strains that were identified, 100 isolates were multi-resistant bacteria. ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae are the most frequently isolated multi-resistant bacteria. Multivariate logistic regression analysis identified four risk factors that are significantly related to the risk of acquiring multi-resistant bacteria infection: prior antibiotic therapy [P = 0,029], use of invasive medical care [P = 0,024], the nosocomial origin of the infection [P = 0,036] and the use of public toilets [P = 0,015]. Our results clearly demonstrate that the inappropriate use of antibiotics, especially broad-spectrum antibiotics, and hand-held cross-transmission play a major role in the spread of multi-resistant bacteria in our hospital.

Development of an Industrial Application with Neuro-Fuzzy Systems

In this paper, our objective is dedicated to the detection of a deterioration in the estimated operating time by giving preventive action before a failure, and the classification of breakdowns after failure by giving the action of the diagnosis and / or maintenance. For this reason, we propose a new Neuro-fuzzy assistance prognosis system based on pattern recognition called "NFPROG" (Neuro Fuzzy Prognosis). NFPROG is an interactive simulation software, developed within the Laboratory of Automation and Production (LAP) -University of Batna, Algeria. It is a four-layer fuzzy preceptor whose architecture is based on Elman neural networks. This system is applied to the cement manufacturing process (cooking process) to the cement manufacturing company of Ain-Touta-Batna, Algeria. And since this company has an installation and configuration S7-400 of Siemens PLC PCS7was chosen as a programming language platform for our system.

Candiduria in Renal Transplant Recipients

ABSTRACT Introduction: The incidence of candiduria has increased significantly in recent years. A prospective study was carried out from January 1, 2017 to June 31, 2017 in the nephrology department at the Batna University Hospital, the aim of which is to determine the incidence of candiduria. Method: A total of 35 patients were included in our study, eight of them (22.85%) developed candiduria during their hospitalization. The majority of patients were women. The age group between 40-60 years was the most representative. Several risk factors were sought, the most frequently found were: immunosuppressive treatment, corticosteroid therapy and broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy. Candida albicans was the most isolated species (62.5%). Results: This study demonstrated the role of candiduria as a potential risk factor for systemic infection (candidemia), three cases of candidemia were diagnosed in patients with high candiduria. The death rate in our study was (37, 5%), they all had candidemia. Conclusion: Candiduria can be associated with high morbidity and mortality. It is a major risk factor for systemic infections. Early post-transplantation screening is therefore essential.

First molecular characterization of related cases of healthcare-associated infections involving multidrug-resistant Enterococcus faecium vanA in Algeria.

PurposeVancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE) faecium (VREfm) are highly resistant bacteria emerging worldwide and rarely studied using molecular tools in Algeria since their first report in 2006. The aim of the study was to investigate healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) involving the first VRE in Batna University Hospital, Algeria, and characterize isolates using molecular tools.Patients and methodsMedical charts were reviewed for patients with VREfm. van genes were detected by multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and strains were characterized by automated repetitive sequence-based PCR (rep-PCR), multiplex rep-PCR, pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE), and multilocus sequence typing (MLST).ResultsDuring a 6-month period, VREfm infections occurred in four patients hospitalized in three wards. The four isolates were E. faecium vanA belonging to the hospital-adapted clonal complex 17. PCR-based methods did not discriminate the isolates but MLST and PFGE delineated a subgroup of three VREfm of identical pulsotype and sequence type (ST) 80 (yet identified for five isolates in the international PubMLST database) while the fourth isolate was of ST789 (not previously identified for a VREfm) and displayed an unrelated pulsotype. The three genotypically related isolates were recovered in patients who underwent surgery in the same department, suggesting an outbreak for which the source and route of transmission remained unidentified.ConclusionThis first molecular epidemiology study of VRE in Algeria was useful in delimiting an outbreak involving three of the four HAI cases and revealed rarely encountered genotypes. Considering the threat and burden of VRE infections worldwide, particularly in the USA, and the late emergence in Algeria, our study supports the urgent need for improved and early adequate infection control measures to avoid VRE spread in North African hospitals.

The Need for Academic Counseling for the 1st Year Students (General Studies Major) at the University of Batna, Algeria

Abstract:This study aimed to reveal the need for academic counseling by the first year students of general major studies. The sample consisted of (146) students (65 males and 81 females) at the university of Batna, who were accidently selected in the academic year 2014/2015. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher adopted the descriptive method, and constructed a questionnaire to investigate the need for academic counseling. After checking the validity and reliability of the research tool, the researcher administered the tool and collected relevant data. Then the data was analyzed on the basis of Pearson correlation coefficient, means, standard deviations, and t-test to identify differences. Besides, the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used. The study results showed that the first year students of general major studies are in need for academic counseling (psychological needs, study needs and social needs) in the same order. The results also revealed significant differences in the need for academic counseling based on the gender variable in favor of females who showed a need for the psychological and study counseling, whereas the differences were in favor of males in the social needs. In light of the research results and findings a set of recommendations and procedures were proposed which will help in guiding and counseling first-year university students.

Outbreak of OXA-48-Producing Klebsiella pneumoniae Involving a Sequence Type 101 Clone in Batna University Hospital, Algeria.

Seven nonredundant ertapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates were collected between May 2014 and 19 January 2015 in the nephrology and hematology units of Batna University Hospital in Algeria. All strains coproduced the blaOXA-48, blaCTX-M-15, blaSHV-1, and blaTEM-1D genes. Six of these isolates belonged to the pandemic clone sequence type 101 (ST101). The blaOXA-48 gene was located on a conjugative IncL/M-type plasmid. This is the first known outbreak of OXA-48-producing K. pneumoniae isolates involving an ST101 clone in Batna University Hospital.

Teachers and Studentss Attitudes Towards Using Mobile-Assisted Language Learning In Higher Education

Mobile -assisted language learning (MALL) is considered as a new multidisciplinary field of educational technology. Recently, this new wave of technology has gained its popularity among students due to the widespread of various mobile technologies to enhance learning. The current study endeavors to investigate the attitudes of EFL teachers and learners at the University of Batna 2 towards the effectiveness of mobile- assisted language learning. The research methodology used in this study is the descriptive. Thus, the data were collected by using of questionnaires. The questionnaires were distributed randomly to eighty (80) master students, and fourteen (14) teachers of English at Batna 2 University. From the questionnaire, both quantitative and qualitative data were collected and analyzed. The findings of this study revealed that both teachers and students of English have positive attitude towards the effectiveness of MALL. Likewise, both showed their agreement on the potential of MALL as a promising approach for teaching and learning foreign languages. Listening, speaking, reading, and culture are identified as the main aspects of language that can be taught and enhanced by integrating mobile technologies. Students have shown both their willingness and motivation to adapt their mobile devices for language learning; however, some teachers showed that mainstreaming mobile education is still early. The finding suggests that more time, pedagogical infrastructure, and training is required. Accordingly, the results of this study will serve as a foundation for coming researchers to investigate mobile learning in depth.

First Report of German Cockroaches (Blattella germanica) as Reservoirs of CTX-M-15 Extended-Spectrum-β-Lactamase- and OXA-48 Carbapenemase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae in Batna University Hospital, Algeria.

Here we report the isolation of extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)- and carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae from German cockroaches caught in the burn unit of Batna University Hospital in Algeria. Nine of 12 isolates harbored the blaCTX-M-15 ESBL gene. One Enterobacter cloacae isolate belonging to sequence type 528 coexpressed the blaOXA-48, blaCTX-M-15, and blaTEM genes. Our findings indicate that cockroaches may be one of the most dangerous reservoirs for ESBL and carbapenemase producers in hospitals.

The Level of Application of Total Quality Management (TQM)Requirements in Algerian Higher Education Institutions Case Study of University El Hadjlakhdar Batna in Algeria

The study aimed to identify the extent of the application of total quality management requirements from the viewpoint of teachers at the university of batna in Algeria, and to identify differences in attitudes resulting in a number of demographic changes, and thus develop a questionnaire distributed to a targeted sample of teachers, has been analyzing data using statistical analysis package (SPSS) and based on appropriate statistical indicators and tests. We have concluded that the application of total quality management requirements at the university of batna as members of the Teachers is a medium was also a substantial differences in attitudes of teachers, so they must work continuously on the development of the climate that fosters positive direction and senior management commitment to the participatory processes and continuous improvement.

Activating The Partnership between University and Socio-Economic Environment Through Open Innovation (A Field Study)

Abstract The study aims to examine the status of the relationship between the Algerian University and the socio-economic environment and the ways to activate it. The study also focuses on estimating the impact of open innovation as a mechanism of activation of the partnership between the university and the socio-economic environment, and on assessing the contribution of the national research projects at Banta University in the stimulation of this partnership. Open Innovation is described in terms of three axes : (1) Availability of open innovation principles in companies, (2) open innovation practices (inbound and outbound), (3) the actors or partners who are dealing with companies through open innovation (degree of openness on market, information and research sources). The activation of the partnership is studied through two variables : the strategic objectives of open innovation’s application, for both, the organization and the university.The population of the study included the total researchers at the University of Batna. Then holders of PNR were selected as a sample to collect preliminary data to test the hypothesis of impact of open innovation on the activation (stimulation) of the partnership between the university and the socio - economic environment, A questionnaire was distributed to the targeted holders of projects. The results show that study’s hypotheses are correct, This allows us to give some recommendations

Abstract: The aim of this study is to determine the appropriate communication teams (Quality circles, brainstorming, benchmarking, and knowledge management) for application in the Algerian higher education institutions in order to improve their quality.We have selected master department at Faculty of Economic Sciences and Management at Batna University who pays great attention to the quality; The study population represents42 professors of Master section without taking the professors experienced less than one year in the department. To achieve objective of the study,a questionnaire was administered in the period from 4-3-2012 until 20 May 2012. Analysis has been effectuated with statistical tools to determine the correlation between two variables (teams and quality). The study concluded that the professors agree on the appropriate application of communication teams in order to improve the department quality expressed by the ratios: QCs 80%, benchmarking80% , 70% of brainstorming , knowledge management 75% .
