CAPACITY BUILDING EFFORTS FOR VILLAGE OFFICIALS AND THE VILLAGE CONSULTATIVE BODY IN CARRYING OUT THEIR DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS IN SIMARLELAN VILLAGE, SOUTH TAPANULI

The purpose of this research is to explain the efforts made to increase the ability of the village apparatus and village consultative bodies to perform their respective roles in South Tapanuli Simarlelan Village. The incapacity of the village machinery and village consultative bodies to perform their roles and responsibilities is the basis of this study. In addition to purposive sampling for informant selection and SWOT analysis for data analysis, this study employs descriptive qualitative approaches. The study was carried out in the South Tapanuli Regency's Simarlelan Village Head Office y in the Muara Batang Toru District. The findings indicated that because capacity building initiatives are only implemented by local governments with erratic timelines and do not involve the apparatus and BPD as a whole, it is possible to argue that they have not been fully and appropriately implemented in order to enhance the ability of village apparatus and BPD Simarlelan in carrying out their duties and functions.

Structure, Composition, Carbon Stocks of Dipterocarpaceae in West Batang Toru Forest Block, North Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra

The West Batang Toru Forest Block in the North Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra, is one of the lowland forests in Sumatra with a variety of plant communities and populations that have not been fully documented. This area is considered a potential high-value carbon reserve of ecological significance. The purpose of the study was to determine the structure and composition of the Dipterocarpaceae at the West Batang Toru Forest Block. This research was conducted from September 2021 to March 2022. The research location was determined by using the purposive sampling method with a transect length of 300 m. Each lane had plots of 20 × 20 m measured in a zigzag position and had an interval of 10 meters. The number of plots in each lane was 10, for a total of 90 plots. Based on the observations, there were nine species of Dipterocarpaceae obtained from a total of 621 individuals. The basal area ranged from 578.02 cm2/Ha to 397,894.43 cm2/Ha, and the largest basal area was at the tree level. The vegetation composition ranged from 60% to 66%, and the highest composition was at tree level. Sixty-two trees were classified as having the largest basal area, followed by poles (42 individuals) and saplings (64 individuals). Shorea platyclados occurred consistently with a compositional percentage value at the tree level with a value of 66%, the pole level of 53%, the sapling rate of 34%, and the seedling level of 9%. The carbon stocks from Dipterocarpaceae stands were 91534 tons/ha, which is the first estimate of their ecological importance

PELATIHAN MASAYARAKAT DALAM PEMBUATAN SABUN CUCI TANGAN UNTUK MENINGKATKAN PENDAPATAN MASAYARAKAT DESA BATU HULA

This Community Service aims to increase the community's knowledge about making handsoap and the importance of health through hand washing. Besides that, the specific aim of this community service is to increase the income of the people of Batu Hula Village through training in making handsoap. Through this training, the people of Batu Hula Village are able to independently make handsoap. This Community Service was carried out in Batu Hula Village, Batang Toru District, South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra Province. The samples in this service were mothers in Batu Hula Village. The results obtained were that the community was enthusiastic about this training activity and the community was able to make handsoap and the community also hopes that there will be further training that can increase knowledge, especially community income.

STUNTING PREVENTION EFFORTS THROUGH COUNSELING ACTIVITIES AND SUPPLEMENTARY FEEDING IN BATU HULA VILLAGE, BATANGTORU DISTRICT SOUTH TAPANULI DISTRICT

Batu Hula villages is one of the villages in kecamatan Batang Toru ,Kabupaten tapanuli selatan. Batu Hula Village is recorded to have a fairly high stunting rate, it is known that the latest data until August 2022 there are 2 children in Batu Hula Village who are indicated to be stunted. Stunting is caused by a lack of nutritional intake for a long time in the first 1000 days of life (HPK), which is a critical period, the lack of parental knowledge will greatly affect children's nutritional intake. So in this case, it is necessary to prevent stunting problems by providing understanding to the community in deciding the high stunting rate in Batu Hula Village. In this case, Batu Hula Village Stunting-Thematic KKN students carried out Stunting Counseling activities which were also coupled with the distribution of PMT (Supplementary Food Provision) for pregnant women and Toddler children aimed at increasing the knowledge of parents how important it is to maintain children's nutritional intake even during pregnancy to prevent stunting.

Penyuluhan Tentang Pencegahan Stunting Pada Remaja Di SMK N 1 Batang Toru

Stunting is a nutritional problem that threatens the quality of life of the nation's future generations. The complexity of the stunting problem, which is a link in the chain, starts from parents' initial education regarding the importance of knowledge about stunting. The importance of knowledge about stunting from adolescence in order to prevent the birth of babies with nutritional problems which cause the growth of toddlers with stunting. Education about the stunting rate in Aek Ngadol Village, Batang Toru District and the absence of socialization by health workers regarding the prevention of stunting from adolescence. In this socialization, an assessment of knowledge about stunting was carried out using the counseling method for students, outreach activities and discussion of material regarding stunting and the first 1000 days of life in adolescents, as well as an assessment of students' knowledge after the counseling was carried out with a question and answer session regarding the material presented. The results of this activity providing questions and answers showed that there had been an increase in students' knowledge about stunting and the first 1000 days of life. Seeing the enthusiasm of students and the importance of efforts to prevent stunting from adolescence with education about stunting and the first 1000 days of life and it is recommended that this outreach be carried out by health workers from local health service facilities periodically to all students so that it can reach all teenagers in Aek Ngadol Village, District Batang Toru, South Tapanuli Regency. Pemanfaatan Ubi Singkong untuk Membuat Jenis Kue Sebagai Penunjang Ekonomi di Masyarakat Desa Batuhoring,Kec.Batuhoring

The utilization of cassava in cake production has become a significant innovation in addressing economic challenges in Batuhoring Village, Batang Toru Subdistrict. Cassava, as an abundant crop in the area, offers significant economic potential. This research explores the potential of cassava in cake production, identifies challenges in management, and formulates promotional and marketing strategies for cassava-based cake products. The results indicate that cassava has a stable raw material availability, high nutritional value, and a variety of processed cake products. Challenges involve the complexity of management and the need for strong marketing. Marketing strategies involve social media and exhibitions, emphasizing competitive pricing and understanding consumer targets. The utilization of cassava in cake production is expected to increase community economic income, support the agricultural sector, and create blessings through biblical values of hard work, sharing, and wise natural resource management.

Analysis of land cover changes case in the Batang Toru landscape

Land cover and land use changes have impacted nearly every form of life on Earth. Batang Toru landscape dominated as a protected area has been experiencing environmental problems due to human activities. The purpose of this study is to analyze land cover changes and land function in Batang Toru Landscape, North Sumatra from 2014 to 2020. We evaluated the changes by using overlay and spatial analysis using the software ArcMap 10.4 and QGIS Las Palmas version. The results of this study showed that during 2014-2020, Batang Toru Landscape covers and functions significantly changed. The areas that experienced the increasing number were agriculture dryland mixed with shrub areas 24,581.70 ha (9.86%), secondary dryland forests 14,439.60 ha (5.80%), paddy areas 3,523.95 ha (1.39%), open areas 1,117.35 ha (0.44%), and industrial forest plantation 429.75 ha (0.18%). Meanwhile, the decreasing areas were dryland agriculture 24,925.49 ha (10.02%), shrubs 17,361.90 ha (6.97%), and primary dryland forest 1,804.95 ha (0.72%). This study can be used as a consideration for the government in managing the landscape to combat the serious environmental problems in Batang Toru.

Pengaruh Penggunaan Metode Inkuiri Terhadap Keaktifan Belajar Pendidikan Agama Kristen Dan Budi Pekerti Siswa Kelas IX SMP Negeri 1 Muara Batangtoru Tapanuli Selatan Tahun Pembelajaran 2023/2024

The aim of this research is to determine the positive and significant influence between the use of the inquiry method on the active learning of Christian Religious Education and Characteristics of class IX students of SMP Negeri 1 Muara BatangToru South Tapanuli for the 2023/2024 academic year. The research method used is a quantitative research method with inferential statistics. The population is all 102 class IX students of SMP Negeri 1 Muara BatangToru Tapanuli Selatan for the 2023/2024 academic year and the research sample was determined to be 36 people, which is 35% of the total population. Data was collected using a positive closed questionnaire with 36 items, namely 17 items for variable 1 Muara Batang Toru Tapanuli Selatan Academic Year 2023/2024: 1) Test the analysis requirements: a) positive relationship test obtained rxy = 0.570 > rtable(a=0.05,n=36) = 0.329. b) Testing a significant relationship obtained a value of tcount= 4.040 > ttable(a=0.05, dk=n-2=34)= 2.042. 2) Influence test: a) Regression equation test, obtained the regression equation Y ̂="29.04"+0.60X. b) Regression coefficient of determination test (r2) = 32.4%. 3) Test the hypothesis using the F test to obtain Fcount > Ftable=(a=0.05, dk numerator k=17, dk denominator=n-2=36-2=34) namely 16.31 > 1.62. Thus Ha, that is, there is a positive and significant influence of the use of the inquiry method on the learning activity of Christian Religious Education and Characteristics of class IX students of SMP Negeri 1 Muara Batang Toru South Tapanuli for the 2023/2024 academic year is accepted and H0 is rejected.

Pongo Abelii Population Model with Changes in Carrying Capacity

Pongo abelii is an endangered orangutan species. The reduction of Pongo abelii can be caused by the removal or loss of orangutans from the population and habitat loss. In general, research on population dynamics with changing carrying capacity is rarely done and it is simulated in this study. We adopted the Verhulst logistic model to model the population dynamics of Pongo abelii. This study aimed to see the effect of increasing the carrying capacity on the population of the endangered Pongo abelii species. From the results of this study, it is concluded that for areas other than Tripa Swamp, Siranggas/Batu Ardan, and East Batang Toru (Sarulla), the addition of carrying capacity is one of the effective options that is urgently needed to maintain a large population of orangutans. For the Tripa Swamp, Siranggas/Batu Ardan, and East Batang Toru (Sarulla) areas, suppressing the number of orangutans loss population is needed to maintain the population, which consists of poaching as trade, conflict killing, hunting/food, wounding, and fire. The results of this study can provide suggestions for tackling the declining population of Pongo abelii species by prohibiting the expansion of the species’ habitat

Examining Agricultural Communities' Views on Provisioning Ecosystem Services from the Batang Toru Forest

Our study investigates the significance of ecosystem services for agricultural production and rural livelihoods, specifically focusing on the Batang Toru forest in North Sumatera. Through household surveys and descriptive analysis, we gather data on farmers' preferences for specific ecosystem services and examine their benefits for agriculture. Our findings highlight the crucial role of provisioning services, including food crops and non-timber forest products, in sustaining farmers' livelihoods within the study area. We also underscore the prevalence of agroforestry practices and stress the necessity for targeted interventions to enhance sustainability and productivity. Furthermore, our study provides valuable insights into the intricate relationship between farmers' perceptions of ecosystem services and various influencing factors in the Batang Toru forest context. Positive correlations are observed between land size, frequency of interactions with forested areas, benzoin farmers, and farmers engaged in other non-timber forest products, signifying the importance of these factors in shaping farmers' recognition of the forest's contributions. By understanding these factors, policymakers and practitioners can develop effective strategies to promote the sustainable management and utilization of ecosystem services in the Batang Toru forest region, benefiting both farmers and the surrounding environment.

ANALYSIS OF THE DEVELOPMENT UNDERSTANDING OF THE PEOPLE BATANG TORU SUB-DISTRICT ABOUT SHARIA PAWNSHOPS

The purpose of this study is the first, show the understanding of the people of Batang Toru District towards PT. Sharia pawnshop, the second is what causes the people of Batang Toru District not to use PT. Sharia Pawnshop. This type of research is qualitative research, the collection of research data is carried out by conducting observations, interviews, and documentation with research objects in Batang Toru District in South Angkola District.Based on the research obtained as follows. First, the understanding of the people of Batang Toru District towards PT. Sharia pawnshops, most of the people in the Batang Toru sub-district already know Sharia pawnshops, but the community only knows not by understanding them. The people of Batang Toru District still mostly think that at PT. Sharia pawnshops are only for pawning. The second reason people do not use Sharia pawnshops is because of the lack of understanding of the people of Batang Toru District about PT. Sharia pawnshops and lack of promotion by distributing brochures and socialization from Sharia pawnshops to the people of Batang Toru District, South Tapanuli Regency.

Pemberdayaan Masyarakat Melalui Pembangunan Wisata Parsariran Kecamatan Batang Toru

Parsariran nature tourism is located in Batang Toru District, South Tapanuli Regency, which is one of the famous tourist destinations. This project aims to discuss the sustainability of the community empowerment process carried out with the development of tourist villages including forms of community empowerment and the results of community empowerment carried out. The approach to this aproject uses qualitative methods to discuss community characteristics and tourism potential. Data collection in this project was obtained through interviews and observation. The results of observations stated that there were many factors that made Parsariran Tourism in the Batang Toru sub-district a tourist destination with a high number of enthusiasts, including cool air, lots of hot springs, high community productivity and a fairly high rainfall factor which made the potential for hydropower development. Forms of community empowerment involve the role of the community from planning to implementing activities. The programs that have been carried out are in the form of socialization and training which includes socialization on tourism marketing strategies, socialization on tourism safety, socialization on tourism management systems and training on recycle or recycling of waste. Empowerment of the community through the development of tourist villages has implications for improving the quality of tourism and managing nature tourism in a more sustainable tourism area.

Lifestyle of Teenagers Hanging Out at Bagasta Cafe (Descriptive Study of Napa Village, Batang Torung District, South Tapanuli)

In this modern era, hanging out in cafes has become a common habit among teenagers, including those in Napa Village, Batang Toru District. Cafes have become a part of the community's life in the village, with many teenagers always hanging out in cafes. This research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach, using data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. The informants in this study were 13 teenagers who consider cafes as their lifestyle. The results of this study show that cafes are now a solution for the needs of the community, especially for teenagers. They no longer feel satisfied with enjoying the living room or family lounge just to chat or discuss. Cafes are considered to provide more comfort and satisfaction, both physically and mentally, to fulfill their desires. The behavior of teenagers in Napa Village is categorized as a way of using money, goods, places, and time. The habit of hanging out in cafes is seen as a need to fill their free time for personal pleasure and as a way to show their social identity. In addition, the free time given by parents to their teenage children can influence them to become spendthrift, lazy, and prioritize playing in cafes instead of studying at home. The existence of Bagasta Cafe is seen as a place for hanging out that can show their existence and elevate their social status.

PENGARUH PEMBERIAN TEH HIJAU TERHADAP PENURUNAN KADAR KOLESTEROL PADA LANSIA DI KECAMATAN BATANG TORU KABUPATEN TAPANULI SELATAN

Cholesterol is a fat found in the bloodstream or body cells, is necessary for the formation of cell walls, and is necessary as a raw material for several hormones. High levels of cholesterol cause it to react with other substances and precipitate in the arteries which will eventually cause atherosclerosis so that it disrupts the process of blood circulation to the heart. Many factors cause hypercholesterolemia, namely genetic factors, obesity factors, dietary factors and rarely exercise. Cholesterol can be overcome with herbs such as guava, turmeric, berimbing ur and noni. One of them is green tea. Green tea is one of the non-pharmacological treatments that can reduce cholesterol levels in the elderly in Batang Toru sub-district, South Tapanuli Regency. It was found that cholesterol levels before drinking green tea were 247 mg/Dl and after drinking green tea were 214 mg/Dl. This study aims to determine the effect of giving green tea on reducing cholesterol levels in the elderly in 2020. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. Study results conclude that green tea lowers cholesterol in older adults. It is recommended to the public to be able to make green tea as an option in dealing with increased cholesterol levels.

Diversity and species composition of lichens across altitudinal range in the Batang Toru Forest, North Sumatra, Indonesia

Abstract. Pasaribu N, Atni OK, Siregar JP. 2023. Diversity and species composition of lichens across altitudinal range in the Batang Toru Forest, North Sumatra, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 24: 2171-2178. West Block of Batang Toru Forest, located in North Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra is one of the protection forest areas which has uniqueness and high biodiversity, one of them is the lichen. The information regarding the lichen species found in the West Block of Batang Toru Forest Research Station has never been reported. Its various types and distributions are unknown. This study aimed to observe lichen at the Batang Toru Forest Research Area, which was carried out from September 2021 to March 2022. The study was carried out with the exploration method by exploring along the track. From the results of the study, there was a total of 54 species of lichen consisting of 23 families and 38 genera. Based on the types of the thallus, it was found 23 species of lichen classified as foliose, 21 crustose, 4 fruticose, 3 squamulose, and 3 filamentous. The most common lichen family found at the study site was Lobariaceae, with a total of six species. The species collected in this study were mostly found on the bark substrate. This study reveals important information about the variety of lichen species in the West Block of Batang Toru Forest, highlighting the urgent need for further research and conservation efforts to protect this unique and diverse ecosystem.

Factors Related To Compliance With The Use Of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Against Employees At Pt.Mas Batang Toru Mine 2023

Indonesia is a country that still has a high number of work accidents, especially well-known companies . This is supported by data from the Ministry of manpower which noted an increasing trend in the number of work accidents in Indonesia which has continued to increase in recent years. in 2022, there have been 157,313 cases of work accidents, or an increase compared to work accident cases that occurred in 2019 of 154 thousand cases. One of the main causes of work accidents is the low awareness of the importance of K3 compliance and non-compliance in the use of personal protective equipment in the industry. The design of this study uses an analytical survey with a cross sectional approach. the sample in this study as many as 50 workers of PT Tambang Mas Batang Tou. Statistical tests used are chi square test and logistic regression. The results showed that of the total respondents 51.0% aged 23-38 years, 32.0% have high school education, 76.0% have worked for 15-20 years. The results of bivariate analysis using chisquare showed that knowledge (p=.000), attitude (p=.000), the availability of PPE (p=.000), regulation (p=.000) and control (p=.000). From the multivariate analysis of the factors that are very influential in this study is the availability of PPE with a value of OR is 745.00 means that respondents whose PPE availability is less than 745 times have the opportunity to cause non-compliance respondents in the use of PPE. From the results of this study is expected to management of PT.Mas Batang Toru mine to be able to further maintain promotive efforts towards the use of personal protective equipment in order to influence the knowledge and attitude of the workforce to wear complete personal protective equipment and maintain the condition of personal protective equipment in good condition before the replacement period by adding demonstration methods for the use and maintenance of personal protective equipment during safety talk.

Study of Women's Space in Bagas Godang In the Village of Wek II Batang Toru South Tapanuli

The traditional house in South Tapanuli is an architecture with a distinctive shape with a type of house on stilts. One such building is bagas godang. This building functions as a residence or residence of the king, also functions as a place for holding traditional ceremonies, and as a place of protection for members of the community. The women's room in the godang bagas is a place for women's activities. Currently the space has changed its function. This study aims to re-describe women's space as a private space inside the godang bagas. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative by way of observation, interviews and documentation. The results obtained are that several rooms inside the godang bagas are women's rooms. These spaces include a bedroom, kitchen and circulation room. This space is used by women in their daily activities. The women's room is very special in the house, a space that makes women feel at home and comfortable.

Forest Stand Composition of the Tapanuli Orangutan (Pongo tapanuliensis) Habitat in the Nature Reserves

The Forest areas of Dolok Sipirok Nature Reserve (DSNR) and Dolok Sibual-Buali Nature Reserve (DBNR) are part of Batang Toru forest landscape which is also the habitat of some protected and endangered wildlife such as Tapanuli orangutans (Pongo tapanuliensis). However, the forest has continued to experience widespread pressure and degradation or reduction, mainly due to forest conversion. Therefore, it is very notable to assess the composition of forest vegetation of DSNR and DBNR considering their very important role for the survival of the Tapanuli orangutan populations. The composition of forest vegetation in this research is known by vegetation analysis. The method vegetation analysis used is line transect. The length of the line transect is 1000 m which consists of 10 plots of each transect with a distance between plots of 100 m. Measurements are carried out on the growth rate of seedlings, saplings, poles and trees. Furthermore, the processing of vegetation analysis data is carried out to find out the Important Value Index (IVI), diversity index (H’), evenness (E) and richness (d) of vegetation species in the research area. The results showed that the composition of orangutan habitat vegetation in DSNR consisted of 107 species from 39 families, while DBNR forest consisted of 117 species from 45 families. Tree Syzygium sp1. species consistently have the highest IVI scores at all forest vegetation growth rates of both reserves. The diversity, evenness and richness of DBNR forest vegetation species tends to be higher than DSNR forest.

Teladan Ulama Batang Toru dan Angkola Barat Tapanuli Selatan

The formulation of the problem of this research is how the role models of the ulama of Batang Toru and Angkola Barat, South Tapanuli, in practicing religious values in the community, this type of research is field research with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques in this study were observation, interviews, and documentation. The type of research is qualitative research, the time of this research has characteristics including setting and actual, the researcher is the key instrument, and the data is descriptive. This study concludes that the examples of the ulama of Batang Toru and Angkola Barat, South Tapanuli in religion are wara', friendly, polite, simple, firm, karomah, gentle and quiet. This example has become a zero model for the Muslim community of Batangtoru and West Angkola, while the challenge faced by the scholars is that they must continue to teach Islamic teachings even though not all people embrace Islam.
