Analysis of The Leading Sector for Regional Development: A Case Study of Batam, Bintan, and Karimun (BBK), Riau Islands Province, Indonesia

Abstract: Spatial planning in Batam, Bintan, and Karimun (BBK) areas is prioritized because it has an important impact on the national economy. This research aims to identify the potential leading sectors in the BBK areas as a reference in regional development. This study uses time series data on Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) based on constant prices in the BBK areas from 2011 to 2021. The analytical tools used in this research are Location Quotient to identify basic and non-basic sectors, Shift Share Analysis to determine changes and shifts in sectors, and Klassen Typology to determine the classification of sector in each region. The three analytical tools combined results demonstrate that economic growth in Batam is supported by the processing sector. A growing sector in Bintan is related to the tourism. Economic potential in Karimun dominated by the agricultural, forestry, and marine sectors. Tanjungpinang’s economic potential is dominated by the service sector, which supports the city’s role as the capital of the Riau Islands Province. However, the fisheries sector has not developed optimally. As an archipelago, regional development policies in the BBK areas should develop other sectors to optimize the maritime economic potential. Firm’s value is an important indicator that reflects the company's performance and future prospects. Determining firm’s value is influenced by various factors, including capital structure, profitability, and company size. This research focuses on the basic materials sector, which plays an important role in the economy and often faces the challenges of price and demand volatility. In the 2021-2022 period, this sector faces various dynamics that affect firm value. By using purposive sampling methods and multiple regression analysis, this research aims to identify the influence of capital structure, profitability and company size on firm value in the basic materials sector. The main finding of this research is that capital structure has a significant effect on firm value, while profitability and company size do not have a significant effect. These results contribute to understanding the relationship between financial factors and firm value in the basic materials sector. The implication of these findings is that investors can consider capital structure as a factor in making investment decisions, while company management needs to pay attention to capital structure management, profitability and company size to avoid a decline in firm value.

This article explores the directions for improving the technological development of Kazakhstan in light of the implementation of the Strategy for Achieving Carbon Neutrality by 2060. By studying international experience and assessing the level of technological development and scientific achievements of the country within the context of global trends, the authors identify key problem areas and barriers that hinder the fulfillment of national commitments in researching technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the country's basic economic sectors. The article concludes by justifying the priority paths and mechanisms for the technological modernization of the national economy as a key driver for Kazakhstan's transition to low-carbon development. Impact of The Corporate Governance on Sustainability Report Disclosure with Environmental Performance as A Moderation Variable in Indonesia

This study aims to analyze the effect of corporate governance on sustainability report disclosure, with environmental performance acting as a moderating variable. The analysis focuses on the role of the board of directors, independent commissioners, audit committees, and financial performance in influencing the quality of sustainability reporting, particularly within the Indonesian context. Environmental performance is measured using the PROPER scale. The study utilizes data from the annual and sustainability reports of 20 companies in the basic materials and energy mining sectors listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2018 to 2022, amounting to 100 observations. The data is processed using SPSS 23. The results show that the presence of female directors significantly enhances the quality of sustainability disclosures, as they tend to prioritize social responsibility. Moreover, financial performance, as measured by Return on Assets (ROA), positively affects sustainability reporting, with companies in better financial health being more transparent in their disclosures. Environmental performance, when combined with strong independent oversight, further improves reporting quality, reflecting the positive influence of independent commissioners and sound financial governance. The study concludes that environmental performance, as measured by the PROPER scale, plays a significant role in improving sustainability disclosures in Indonesia. It recommends that the Indonesian government provide stronger support and clearer regulations to help companies improve their sustainability practices and contribute to the G20 agenda.

Pengaruh Kepemilikan Manajerial Terhadap Kesulitan Keuangan Perusahaan Sektor Industri Dasar Dan Kimia

Managerial ownership is believed to reduce agency problems that frequently occur in business, which, if not addressed, can lead to financial distress for the company. Extremely high or low managerial ownership can cause issues, such as managers neglecting shareholders' interests or being less motivated to maintain the company's financial stability. This study aims to analyze the effect of managerial ownership on the likelihood of financial distress in basic industry and chemical sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). A quantitative approach was used in this study. The data consists of annual reports from basic industry and chemical sector companies listed on the IDX from 2018 to 2023. Samples were determined using a purposive sampling method from a population of 73 companies, resulting in 24 companies with a total of 144 samples analyzed. Logistic regression analysis was used to test the hypothesis. The results of this study indicate that higher managerial ownership is associated with a reduced likelihood of financial distress. The findings of this study are useful for shareholders and management in making decisions regarding ownership structure to minimize financial risk.

Development of Carbon Emission Disclosure Indicators in Indonesia and Analysis of Determining Factors

The first objective of this research is to develop indicators of carbon emission disclosure in Indonesia, while the second objective is to analyse the determinants of carbon emission disclosure. This research resulted in the development of carbon emission disclosure indicators. The development recommendations were derived from a review of scientific literature. The results of the recommendation are 14 theme indicators as a measure in carbon emissions disclosure and also become dependent variable of this research. Furthermore, this research analyses various determinants that affect carbon emission disclosure. There are four main groups of variables determined in this study, namely financial performance, ownership, committee, and board of directors. The scope of the research is 225 companies sample listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The industry sectors that are the scope of the research are the energy sector, industrial sector, basic material sector, non-cyclical consumer sector, and transportation sector. The method used in this research is a combination of qualitative and quantitative. The development of carbon emission disclosure indicators was examined using qualitative methods through a literature review. While the determinant analysis uses quantitative methods with probability analysis (logistic regression analysis). The results showed that the group of financial performance variables (represented by leverage and market value variables), ownership (represented by International Listing and state ownership variables), committee (represented by environmental committee), and board of directors (represented by Board Diversity) on carbon emission disclosure in Indonesia have significant effects. The development of indicators and the results of this research have supported the Legitimacy theory as a basis that can influence company's carbon emissions disclosure. The novelty of carbon emissions disclosure indicator can be used as a reference for companies and regulators as a basis for complete carbon emissions disclosure.

Pengaruh Return on Asset, Cash Ratio, Total Asset Turnover, dan Debt to Equity Ratio Terhadap Nilai Perusahaan

This study aims to investigate the partial effects of return on assets, cash ratio, total asset turnover, and debt to equity ratio on company value in the Basic Materials sector of the packaging industry listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2019 to 2023. The sample of this study consists of 14 companies in the Basic Materials sector of the packaging industry listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2019 to 2023. The research employs panel data regression statistical analysis tools assisted by Eviews version 12 software and Microsoft Excel 2013. The results indicate that debt to equity ratio has a partial positive and significant effect on company value. On the other hand, return on assets, cash ratio, and total asset turnover have no partial significant effect on company value.

Pengaruh Leverage Terhadap Pertumbuhan Laba pada Perusahaan Manufaktur Sektor industri Dasar Kimia yang Terdaftar di Bursa Efek Indonesia Periode 2018-2022

This research aimed to determine the influence of Debt To Equity Ratio and Debt To Asset Ratio on Profit Growth in the Basic Industry and Chemical Sectors Listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange in 2018-2022. The research samples were selected through purposive sampling, where 41 companies met the requirements as samples. The analytical test tool used to test this research was multiple linear regression. The data analysis applied the SPSS 27 application. The research findings indicated that the Debt To Equity Ratio (DER) influenced profit growth negatively, and Debt To Asset Ratio (DAR) influenced profit growth positively. In the meantime, simultaneously, the Debt To Equity Ratio (DER) and Debt To Asset Ratio (DAR) influenced profit growth.

The Impact of Strategic Planning and Entrepreneurial Thinking Dimensions on The Financial Performance of Companies Operating in The Basic Building Materials Sector in Egypt: An Applied Study.

The study highlighted a significant correlation between strategic planning, entrepreneurial thinking, and financial performance within companies operating in Egypt’s primary building materials sector. The research posited that a positive relationship exists, suggesting that the implementation of strategic planning and the adoption of an entrepreneurial mindset would lead to improved financial performance for these companies. A quantitative approach was employed, collecting data from a sample of companies within the sector through a questionnaire. The gathered data was then analysed using various statistical methods. The findings revealed a positive correlation between strategic planning and financial performance, as well as between entrepreneurial thinking and financial performance. Moreover, the results indicated that a combined application of strategic planning and entrepreneurial thinking exerted a more pronounced impact on financial performance compared to the individual effects of each. Based on these outcomes, the study recommends that companies operating within Egypt’s primary building materials sector should adopt well-defined strategies and foster a culture of innovation and risk-taking among their employees. Additionally, the research advocates for further studies in this domain to deepen the understanding of the relationship between these variables. Interpretation of Fairness Concept and Economic Impact Analysis of Carbon Quota Allocation between Industries in Indonesia

Abstract Quota allocation is critical in implementing supporting policies for carbon reduction efforts, such as the carbon cap and trade mechanism. Depending on the allocation rules, certain company types may benefit more economically. Inequality conditions can happen and reduce the willingness to participate in sustainability efforts. This study aims to propose fairness interpretations in the context of company-level carbon quota allocation. Four industries in Indonesia with inherently different emission and financial profiles were selected as case studies: energy, oil palm, basic materials, and finance. Fairness principles were analyzed to represent the interests of companies based on their financial and environmental performance. Indicators were selected to quantify the equality principles and aggregated into a Comprehensive Index (CI) for quota allocation, where the companies’ quota surplus/deficit is quantified into monetary value to estimate the economic impact with varying reduction targets. According to our analysis, the sectoral advantages/disadvantages would depend on the viewpoint of fairness principles, and the oil palm and financial sectors be less impacted than the basic materials and energy sectors with increased emission reduction targets. The sensitivity analysis suggests that the vertical, horizontal, polluter pays, and historical responsibility principles are more sensitive to weighting than the merit and basic needs principles.

PENGARUH STRUKTUR MODAL, UKURAN PERUSAHAAN DAN RISIKO BISNIS TERHADAP KEBIJAKAN DIVIDEN DENGAN PROFITABILITAS SEBAGAI VARIABEL INTERVENING PADA PERUSAHAAN MANUFAKTUR SEKTOR INDUSTRI DASAR DAN KIMIA YANG TERDAFTAR DI BEI

Companies in the basic and chemical industry sector are manufacturing companies that convert raw materials into semi-finished products. This study aims to determine the Influence of Capital Structure, Company Size and Business Risk on Dividend Policy with Profitability as an Intervening Variable in Manufacturing Companies in the Basic and Chemical Industry Sector Listed on the IDX. This research method uses a quantitative method. Data analysis and hypothesis testing in this study used the Structural Equation Model-Partial Least Square (PLS-SEM). The results of the direct influence hypothesis test using the Smart PLS3 3.0 application show that the capital structure has a negative but not significant effect on profitability. The size of the company has a potential but not significant effect on profitability. Business risk has a significant positive effect on profitability. Capital structure has a negative but not significant effect on dividend policy. The size of the company has a positive but not significant effect on the dividend policy. Business risk has a positive but insignificant effect on dividend policy. Profitability has a positive but not significant effect on dividend policy. Capital structure has a negative but insignificant effect on dividend policy through profitability. Company size has a positive but insignificant effect on dividend policy through profitability. Business risk has a positive but insignificant effect on dividends through profitability.

The Influence of Liquidity, Profit, Debt Policy and Operating Leverage on Price to Book Value in Manufacturing Companies listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange

The research is aimed at analyzing the influence of liquidity, profits, debt policy and operating leverage on price to book value. A population of 73 manufacturing companies in the basic industrial and chemical sectors listed on the Indonesian stock exchange, 43 companies were sampled for research using purposive sampling. Research data was obtained from the site www.idx.co.id. Furthermore, the data obtained was processed using SPSS version 26. The results stated that liquidity partially had a positive but not significant effect on Price to Book Value. Profit and debt policy partially have a positive and significant effect on Price to Book Value. Operating leverage partially has a negative and insignificant effect on Price to Book Value. Liquidity, Profit, Debt Policy and Operating Leverage simultaneously have a significant effect on Price to Book Value.

Pengaruh Penerapan Green Accounting terhadap Profitabilitas pada Perusahaan Sektor Industri Dasar dan Kimia yang Terdaftar di Bursa Efek Indonesia Periode 2020-2022

This research aims to analyze the effect of implementing green accounting on profitability in Basic Industry and Chemical Sector Companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the 2020-2022 period. The population of this research is all Basic Industry and Chemical Sector Companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) totaling 70 companies with samples for three years from 2020-2022 totaling 22 companies with a period of 3 years so that we got 66 samples taken using the Purposive Technique Sampling. Data collection was carried out using documentation techniques. Data analysis was carried out with SPSS 23 using multiple linear regression tests, classical assumption tests, and hypothesis tests. Based on the results of partial testing (T test), the environmental cost variable has a significant effect on profitability, indicating that environmental costs can have a large effect on the company's ability to earn profits. Meanwhile, the environmental performance variable does not have a significant effect on profitability, which shows that whether a company's environmental performance is good or bad does not affect the company's profit even though the company has a good PROPER rating. Analysis of Regional Economic Resilience through Comparative Advantages of Sectoral Growth

The objective of this study is to analyze the economic resilience of regions during the COVID-19 period that affected the Indonesian regional economy. Economic resilience can be identified by examining the development of leading sectors in the regional economy. This study uses secondary data in the form of time series using Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) data obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics of Batu City, the Central Bureau of Statistics of Malang City, and the Central Bureau of Statistics of Kediri City from 2018 to 2021. All three cities are located in East Java Province, Indonesia. The analysis in this study involves using three methods: Location Quotient, Shift Share, and Klassen typology. The analysis results reveal that Batu City and Malang City show strong competitiveness and comparative advantages. On the other hand, Kediri City demonstrates relatively low competitiveness and comparative advantage, which can be attributed to the impact of the COVID-19 shock. Additionally, research results show that the sectors in Malang City have experienced rapid growth, with all sectors developing faster than in other regions. In contrast, the sectors contributing to Batu and Kediri’s Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) have experienced delayed development. The results of this study confirm that regional economic resilience still exists through the development of sectoral businesses that contribute to the overall value of Gross Regional Domestic Product in various regencies and cities within East Java Province. Transformations in the sanitation sector in the State of Rio de Janeiro: neoliberalism and regulatory changes

This article analyzes the reconfiguration of water supply services provided to municipalities across the State of Rio de Janeiro. It seeks to examines how advancements in the neoliberalization of Brazil's basic sanitation sector have contributed to a fragmentation in the provision of services and to the emergence of uneven geographies on a regional scale. This will be conducted through the lens of policy experimentation, particularly after the approval of Law 14.026/2020. The study is based on an approach concerning the commodification of public services within the context of neoliberalism, marked by a complex reformulation of regulatory mechanisms. The methodology combines an analysis of secondary data, documentary research, and thematic mapping. The results reveal that the management of sanitation services is increasingly guided by market logic, with the experimentation of controversial regulatory mechanisms that have exacerbated fragmentation and deepened territorial inequality.

Factors affecting financial distress in indonesian basic industry and chemicals sector

This research aims to analyse the influence of profitability, leverage, firm size, sales growth, and liquidity on financial distress in companies in the basic industry and chemicals sector listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for 2017-2022. The sample for this research is 20 companies in the basic industry and chemicals sector listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for 2017-2022 obtained from purposive sampling. The type of data used is quantitative data obtained from secondary data. The data collection technique is a documentation technique obtained from the company's annual financial report from the Indonesia Stock Exchange for 2017 - 2022. The data analysis techniques used are descriptive statistics and logistic regression using SPSS 26. The results of the study show that profitability is proxied by ROA, leverage is proxied by the debt ratio, firm size is proxied by the logarithm of total assets, sales growth is proxied by the sales growth ratio, and liquidity is proxied by the current ratio do not affect financial distress. Advice that can be given to investors and companies is to focus on the five independent variables and internal company factors in looking at the size of financial distress and to consider other possible factors. Apart from that, advice that can be given to future researchers is to use different proxies in carrying out the analysis because different proxies will allow different results to be obtained.

Analisis Determinan Sektor Pertanian dan Sub Sektor Unggulan di Kabupaten Muaro Jambi

This research aims to determine the contribution of the agricultural sector to the GRDP of Muaro Jambi Regency, to determine and analyze what factors influence the growth of GRDP in the agricultural sector in Muaro Jambi Regency, and to determine and analyze the leading agricultural sector in Muaro Jambi Regency. Analysis year 2002-2022. The analytical method used is quantitative descriptive analysis and qualitative analysis. The results of the research show that the economic growth of Muaro Jambi Regency in 2002-2022 is 39.38%, the factors that influence the growth of GRDP in the agricultural sector in Muaro Jambi Regency are the area of agricultural land and investment in the agricultural sector, while the workforce in the agricultural sector and agricultural production are not has a significant effect on the growth of GRDP in the agricultural sector in Muaro Jambi Regency. The leading agricultural sector in Muaro Jambi Regency, as a result of location quotient analysis, is that there are 8 economic sectors classified as basic sectors and 9 non-basic sectors. The results of the dynamic location quatient analysis show that there are 8 economic sectors that have prospective potential and there are 9 economic sectors that do not have prospective potential. The results of the classic shift share analysis show that Jambi Province influences the increase in GDP of Muaro Jambi Regency, the highest economic shift value is in the primary sector, the second secondary sector and the third tertiary sector.

Pengaruh likuiditas dan Leverage Terhadap Nilai Perusahaan: Studi Kasus pada Perusahaan Sektor Industri Dasar dan Kimia yang Terdaftar di Bursa Efek Indonesia Periode 2018-2022

This study aims to find out how the Current Ratio and Debt To Equity Ratio affect Company Value. in companies in the Basic Industry and Chemical Sector listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the 2018-2022 period. The research method used is qualitative and sampling techniques using Purpisive sampling with the number of samples obtained in this study as many as 40 companies from 73 companies in the basic and chemical industry sectors. The data collection technique in this study uses secondary data, namely financial report data that has been published by companies in the basic industry and chemical sectors on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). Based on the results of the test, it shows that partially the Current ratio (CR) has a positive effect on the Company's Value. Debt To Equity Ratio has a negative effect on the Company's Value. The results of the study also show that simultaneously the Current Ratio (CR) and Debt To Equity ratio (DER) have an effect on the Company's Value.

Pemetaan Daya Saing Produk Industri Kreatif di Sumatera Barat

This research aims to determine the level of economic competitiveness through competitive sectors based on shift-share analysis, leading sectors based on Location Quotient analysis, creative industry mapping, and creative industry product potential in West Sumatra. This research is field research using survey methods. The approach method uses a quantitative and qualitative descriptive approach. The research results show that based on the results of the shift-share analysis there are seven competitive sectors, namely wholesale and retail trade sector, followed by construction, educational services, mining and quarrying, government administration, provision of accommodation and food and drink, services others, while tourism has not been able to compete. Based on the results of the Location Quotient analysis, there are 13 basic and superior business sectors, and the tourism sector which is among the most basic or superior sectors in West Sumatra. The results of mapping the creative industries in West Sumatra showed that Tanah Datar is the area with the most creative workers. Most of the creative industry potential in culinary businesses and is located in Tanah Datar, Pesisir Selatan, Payakumbuh, Padang Panjang, South Solok, Solok, Sinjunjung, Limapuluh Kota, Dharmasraya, Pariaman Districts.
