TRADITIONAL AND NON-TRADITIONAL DECORATIVE COATINGS OF JEWELLERY AND COSTUME JEWELLERY

A wide range of protective and decorative coatings and materials used in the manufacture of jewellery and costume jewellery is considered. It is shown that the use of certain coatings and technologies of their application or formation is determined by the materials used. The classification and scheme of using decorative coatings on the surface of the main groups of materials used in the manufacture of jewellery and costume jewellery is proposed. The coatings are divided into two main groups – traditional and non-traditional. Traditional coatings include coatings, the technology of formation and decorative properties of which have recently undergone significant modernisation. The non-traditional ones include relatively new decorative coatings, which have become widely used in the manufacture of jewellery and costume jewellery in recent decades. It is noted that the development of material science and technological base of jewellery industry leads to the emergence of new interesting coatings, which allows to significantly diversify the possi-bilities of jewellery creators.

Laissez-Faire or Sensitive Policymaking: The Legacy of Creative Clusters on Brownfield Sites in Berlin

With his saying “Berlin—poor, but sexy!,” former Governing Mayor Klaus Wowereit framed the motto for a decade of transition in which the German capital became a Mecca for artists, media industries, and creative people from all over the world. Building on a longstanding tradition of tolerating diversity and as a centre of high culture and bohemians, the city developed a new cultural-political identity from a deep transformation crisis after German unification and the extensive loss of its industrial base. In conjunction with a blossoming of temporary uses in a wide variety of vacant properties, often abandoned production, infrastructure, or storage areas, an intense creative scene unfolded. Since the 2010s, this scene has been massively threatened by displacement due to the changed real estate market situation. Over the years, the city has tried to counteract this situation through cultural policy initiatives and niche projects for bottom-up initiatives, with limited success. Against the backdrop of accelerated development of former brownfield sites and funding cuts in urban cultural policy, the question currently arises as to what place subculture can occupy in urban policy in the future. Based on official documents, books, scholarly articles, project websites, newspaper articles, and own observations, this article attempts to evaluate the respective policies in the city over time, to place them in the context of approaches to a more land-security-oriented policy, and to make clear what role the re-used spaces and buildings from the industrial age play in this.

Whole-of-Nation Innovation

China wants to become a science, technology, and manufacturing superpower by upgrading and modernizing its industrial base and concentrating the nation’s innovation resources around strategic priorities. However, it is difficult for the state to integrate innovation resources because of the gap separating universities and research organizations from industry, which impedes the translation of scientific output into technological prowess. By contrast, Beijing has been much more successful at directing industrial development. As a result, achieving a modernized industrial base is now the dominant framework for Chinese policymakers as they pursue technological self-reliance.

Study of the Importance of Irrigation Projects to Agricultural Water Resources Using the Baiqi Canal as an Example

In the global economic system, the stable development of agriculture as a basic industry is inseparable from the rational utilization of water resources. Irrigation projects play a vital role in ensuring agricultural water use, increasing grain output and promoting agricultural sustainable development. This study aims to explore the scientific experience of Baiqi Canal, an excellent irrigation project in ancient China, and its profound value as a world irrigation project heritage, analyze the importance of irrigation projects to agricultural water resources, and promote the protection and sustainable utilization of irrigation project heritage. Firstly, the irrigation mode of Baiqi Canal and its important role in agricultural development were introduced, and then its influence on local agricultural water resources and ecological environment was analyzed. Finally, the positive influence of international irrigation projects on agricultural water resources was further discussed, and its key role in ensuring food security and promoting agricultural sustainable development was emphasized.

Electrification or Hydrogen? The Challenge of Decarbonizing Industrial (High-Temperature) Process Heat

The decarbonization of industrial process heat is one of the bigger challenges of the global energy transition. Process heating accounts for about 20% of final energy demand in Germany, and the situation is similar in other industrialized nations around the globe. Process heating is indispensable in the manufacturing processes of products and materials encountered every day, ranging from food, beverages, paper and textiles, to metals, ceramics, glass and cement. At the same time, process heating is also responsible for significant greenhouse gas emissions, as it is heavily dependent on fossil fuels such as natural gas and coal. Thus, process heating needs to be decarbonized. This review article explores the challenges of decarbonizing industrial process heat and then discusses two of the most promising options, the use of electric heating technologies and the substitution of fossil fuels with low-carbon hydrogen, in more detail. Both energy carriers have their specific benefits and drawbacks that have to be considered in the context of industrial decarbonization, but also in terms of necessary energy infrastructures. The focus is on high-temperature process heat (>400 °C) in energy-intensive basic materials industries, with examples from the metal and glass industries. Given the heterogeneity of industrial process heating, both electricity and hydrogen will likely be the most prominent energy carriers for decarbonized high-temperature process heat, each with their respective advantages and disadvantages.

Manufacturing production as a source of growth: the case of Portugal

The aim of this paper is to test the relationship between manufacturing production and economic growth in Portugal from the 1950s to the present day, following Nicholas Kaldor’s (1908–1986) thinking, which assumes that manufacturing is the true engine of the economic activity of a country. By estimating a series of econometric models, including a Vector Autoregressive (VAR) model, it was possible to identify a positive relationship between growth and manufacturing production since the 1950s. The results also show that each increase of 1 percentage point (pp) in real growth rate of the production of basic metallurgical industries and manufacture of metallic products in a certain year t−1 for the period 1956–2019, caused an increase of 0.07 pp in the Portuguese economic growth during a following year t on average. We hope that these findings will stimulate new and interesting research regarding the important issues of manufacturing production and economic growth.

Industrialization, decarbonization, and sustainability: The role of development finance and implications for inequality

ABSTRACT Post-apartheid, the South African economy remains characterised by persistent unemployment and world-leading inequality. Transitioning towards more equal and inclusive economic outcomes is hampered by an industrial base concentrated in powerful firms in upstream resource-based carbon-intensive sectors. Pursuing industrialisation in the context of the push towards decarbonisation and sustainability by significant trading partners depends on a massive investment programme in renewable energy and specific high-emitting sectors and developing linkages between sectors to target a just, equitable, and inclusive transition that tackles the country’s deep-rooted inequalities. This paper evaluates South Africa’s main development finance institution, the Industrial Development Corporation’s role in green industrialisation in South Africa. It investigates whether the investments made and the orientation of the IDC positively impacts the structural transformation of the economy, using disclosed and publicly available data. It suggests a set of criteria with which the IDC can assess the transformational impacts of its climate change funding.

Theoretical Thinking on the Development of New Quality Productive Forces According to Local Conditions in Heilongjiang Province

The new quality productive forces reflects the systematic remodeling and revolutionary transition of the old productive forces, which is the quality of productivity in line with the requirements of high-quality development. The formation of new quality productive forces can effectively energize the revitalization and development of Heilongjiang Province. From the perspective of the revitalization of the old industrial base in Northeast China, opportunities, advantages and challenges coexist in the development of new quality productive forces in Heilongjiang Province. Based on the current situation, the practical path for the development of new quality productive forces according to local conditions in Heilongjiang Province is proposed: Cultivate innovative thinking leading the development of new quality productivity, form the industrial base for the development and growth of new quality productivity, shape the innovation economic system for the development of new quality productivity, and build innovation clusters of new quality productivity.

Reducing Carbon emissions through pipelines? Evidence from the West-East Gas Pipeline Project

ABSTRACT Transregional energy transmission can help balance resource allocation and serve long-term regional interests. The West–East Gas Pipeline Project (WEGPP), which is the longest natural gas pipeline in China, aims to address the serious imbalance between natural gas supply and demand in China’s eastern and western regions. Few studies have considered WEGPP’s effect on carbon emissions in terms of energy transmission. Using data for prefecture-level cities from 2000 to 2019, we consider WEGPP as a quasi-natural experiment and adopt a staggered difference-in-differences model to investigate the causal effect of energy transmission on carbon emissions. We find that WEGPP can reduce carbon emissions; various robustness tests confirm the reliability of the results. However, the emission-reduction effect is heterogeneous owing to factors such as operation batch, location, administrative level, population size, resource endowment, industrial level, and whether a city belongs to an old industrial base. We also reveal three important channels for WEGPP’s emission-reduction effect: environmental concern of the government, industrial agglomeration, and green technological innovation. This study provides a reference for assessing the feasibility and effectiveness of energy transmission in the context of emission reduction.

Capitalization and the production of value at the nexus of academia and industry: the case of a microbiome startup

This article analyses valuation practices, focusing on the way health data constitute different kinds of assets for different actors within an industry-academia partnership in the field of microbiome research. It examines emerging bioeconomic dynamics within data-driven computational biology, contributing to debates about the sociopolitical implications of multiple and synergic valuation practices in personalized medicine for future public health. Through the ethnographic exploration of a personalized nutrition startup active in Europe and the US and a metagenomics research lab based in Italy, we explore the dynamics around the intersection of knowledge production with scientific, economic, and health value. In contrast to traditional commodity and rent-based structures, we expose a hybrid model of bioeconomic enterprise that challenges rigid distinctions between commodification and asset-based rentiership, highlighting synergic business models where multiple registers of the value of worth are played out, translated, and combined. The study unveils a nuanced relationship between data, research, and economic drivers, where scientists perceive they can pursue research independently from market pressures. Beyond these perceptions and narratives, we highlight the economic dynamics that suture basic research and industry in their promotion of health governance that causes social justice concerns by restricting access to high income and hegemonic types of clients/patients. We clarify that epistemic aspects cannot be disentangled from sociopolitical aspects, especially in the digital age, and that where governments implement and enhance digital health solutions, they also need to plan for consistent social (re)adjustments.

The Role of Information Processing and Digital Supply Chain Technology in Supply Chain Resilience through Supply Chain Risk (Management in Manufacturing Companies in DKI Jakarta)

The 2019 COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of supply chain resilience in the face of global disruptions. Supply chain disruptions caused by isolation measures during the pandemic triggered market turmoil, logistical uncertainty, and reduced production capacity, which sometimes led to shutdowns. In this context, research on supply chain resilience is crucial to prepare companies for future disruptions. This research aims to examine the impact of supply chain resilience on supply chain continuity in manufacturing companies in DKI Jakarta, focusing on the role of digital supply chains, information processing capabilities, and supply chain risk management. This research method uses a quantitative approach. Data were collected from 300 respondents in the basic and chemical industry, miscellaneous industries, and consumer goods sectors through purposive sampling techniques. The analysis was conducted using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to identify the relationship between variables. The results showed that supply chain resilience has a significant positive influence on supply chain continuity. In addition, digital supply chains, information processing capabilities, and effective supply chain risk management were shown to support supply chain resilience in the studied sectors. The implication of this research is that it is important for companies to invest in digital technology, develop better information processing capabilities, and implement effective risk management to strengthen their supply chain resilience and continuity in the face of future global uncertainty.

Unleashing the power of green fiscal policies: Driving energy efficiency in China

This study examines the impact of such policies on energy efficiency by focusing on the “National Comprehensive Demonstration of Energy Saving and Emission Reduction Fiscal Policy” (ESER fiscal policy). Using a difference-in-difference method with multiple time points, the study finds that the ESER fiscal policy has significantly closed the total factor energy efficiency (TFEE) gap. The results are robust, supported by sensitivity analyses such as variable substitutions, dynamic effect tests, exclusion of potential intervening variables, placebo tests, and propensity score matching. Mechanism analysis shows that the pilot program closes the energy efficiency gap by increasing expenditure on environmental protection, improving agglomeration of productive services, and promoting of green technological innovation. Furthermore, the impact of green fiscal policies on TFEE is more pronounced in cities within two-control areas, non-old industrial base cities, large-scale cities, and resource-depleted cities. The analysis of the energy rebound effect found that green fiscal policies can effectively close the energy efficiency gap without generating energy rebound. These findings provide valuable insights and empirical evidence on the effectiveness of China's green fiscal policies in achieving green development, improving quality and efficiency.

Industrial Policy and The New Structural Economics Theory: A Transitional Economy Perspective

Abstract This paper explores the connection between industrial policy and New Structural Economics (NSE) from the perspective of a transitioning economy. The NSE emphasizes that by leveraging comparative advantages, investing in infrastructure and human capital, diversifying the industrial base, and enacting institutional reforms, transitioning economies can achieve sustainable economic development. For industrial policy to be effective, it must align with these principles. Using Bangladesh as a case study, this paper proposes a theoretical framework that links industrial policy with NSE to foster sustainable economic growth. The framework emphasizes the critical role of government intervention in resource allocation, benefit distribution, and industrial growth, all of which are driven by targeted industrial policies. Additionally, it categorizes Bangladesh’s industries into five groups, prioritizing leading-edge sectors focused on technological advancement and skill development over catching-up industries that address productivity gaps. This paper contributes to the understanding of Bangladesh’s industrial policy through the lens of NSE, shedding light on the underlying dynamics that shape the country's industrial structure, competitiveness, and future economic trajectory. Coordinated Regional Economic Development: A Study of the Relationship Between Regional Policies and Business Performance

Abstract In the context of the global spread of the Corona Virus Disease 2019, improving enterprise performance, promoting regional economic development, and solving the problem of unbalanced and inadequate regional development are important considerations for regional policy formulation. To understand the relationship between regional policies and corporate performance, this study starts with theories related to regional policies and corporate performance, and proposes two hypotheses. The Western Development, Northeast Revitalization of the Old Industrial Base, and Central Rise Plan are selected as typical representatives of regional policies, and the hypotheses are verified through a double difference model. The results showed that regional policies could improve corporate performance, especially for state-owned enterprises (SOEs). The correlation between the revitalization of the old industrial base in Northeast China and the performance of SOEs was strong, with a correlation coefficient of 0.832. When conducting robustness tests by changing time periods, the correlation values between the performance of SOEs and policies in the three policy implementation areas of revitalizing Northeast China, western development, and central rise were 0.887, 0.764, and 0.652, respectively. Compared to non-SOEs, SOEs had a more significant effect on regional policy improvement. This conclusion was consistent with the empirical results of hypotheses 1 and 2. Based on this foundation, recommendations are offered for the suitability of regional policies to furnish theoretical frameworks for enhancing the regional policy structure and augmenting the precision and inclusivity of regional policy development. The research model is utilized to reveal the important role of regional policies in promoting enterprise performance improvement and promoting regional economic development. It can provide strong evidence support for policy makers. The study offers a scientific theoretical basis and empirical support that assist policymakers in comprehending policy objectives and implementation strategies with greater precision. Therefore, the coordinated advancement of regional economic development is facilitated.

The Model of the Armament And Military Equipment Repair System

The purpose of the study, the results of which are presented in the article, is to develop a mathematical model of the process of restoring weapons and military equipment (IWT), taking into account their losses due to combat and operational and technical reasons, as well as the production capabilities of repair and restoration bodies (RVOS) of the first and second levels. For the operational solution of the recovery system planning and managing tasks, it is necessary to have models that allow approximate assessment of the system effectiveness at various levels of management. The hypothesis of the study is to increase the efficiency of restoring weapons and military equipment using the forces and means of military repair bodies, field repair brigades (VRB) in the conditions of the operation, as well as the production capacities of enterprises of the local industrial economic base. As criteria for effectiveness evaluation, the indicators characterizing the combat capabilities of military formations for a certain period of military planning in peacetime and wartime are considered. Research methods are mathematical apparatus of the theory of queuing systems and differential equations of 'dynamics of averages', system analysis, comparative analysis, generalization, forecasting, and document analysis. The resulting model establishes a relationship between the input parameters and the output indicators of the recovery system, characterizing the serviceability of the IWT. In this case, the control parameter is a parameter that characterizes the ratio of the number of samples of military equipment repaired in the 1st-level RVR. Results: the developed model can be used for: analyzing the technical support system of troops; solving optimization problems of managing the technical support of troops: finding the optimal ratio of the number of samples of military equipment repaired by the first and second level RVOS; determining the optimal number of field crews for repairing military equipment while ensuring a given level of serviceability of military equipment and minimizing the cost of repairing military equipment.

Decarbonization In the Steel Industry, Resource Management and Environmental Impact Assessment

The steel industry, as one of the basic global industries, plays a very important role in the production of carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases. Considering the necessity of the global decarbonization process and the big challenges facing the steel sector in Iran, the stakeholders must discover ways to achieve the decarbonisation of the Iranian steel sector. In this context, we present an initial exploration of this perspective, where the general focus is towards using suitable substitute materials, using more scrap steel and changing existing recycling methods to remove more impurities (e.g., vehicle disassembly). instead of crushing them, which challenges material separation). better design and material substitution; increasing energy efficiency; Changing carbon-intensive technologies to net zero; etc., which have the potential to accelerate the transition towards decarbonization of steel and thus strengthen and promote the vital process of decarbonization in the steel sector. New technologies are being developed that will significantly reduce carbon emissions in the iron and steel sector. Ways in which the uptake of more sustainable technology can be stimulated, including their orientation.

Characteristics and risk assessments of mercury pollution in a county region undergoing industrialization in northeastern China: a case study in Gongzhuling

Mercury pollution in emerging industrial zones and surrounding areas, especially in industrial concentration areas, has attracted much attention. So as to clarify the characteristics of Hg in the environment in China’s small and medium-sized industrial emerging and surrounding areas, central urban area of Gongzhuling, a traditional agricultural town with a high degree of industrialization in northeast Changchun industrial base, is taken as the scope. Geological accumulation trin (Igeo) was used to study the degree of soil mercury contamination in Gongzhuling area, latent Er (ecological risk) trin was used to appraise the Er of soil Hg in the study area, and non-carcinogenic risk assessment of mercury in soil using human exposure risk assessment model. The results showed that 34% of soil samples had higher Hg content than the background value of the province’s soil (0.04 mg kg−1). The Igeo results showed that Hg pollution rate of soil in study area was 9% (index >0). In conclusion, the level of soil Hg pollution in Gongzhuling area was low, and the pollution area is mainly concentrated in the northwestern part of the study range. The highest and lowest Er values of soil Hg from the study sample were 2.23 and 214.83, and 24% of the samples had Er > 40, that means they pose a moderate or higher potential ecological risk, and most of these points are located in the northeast of the study range. The main route of human exposure to Hg is oral ingestion. The HQ (non-carcinogenic risk index) and HI (total non-carcinogenic risk value) of soil mercury were both much less than 1, it indicates that the present level of soil Hg in the study range does not pose a threat to local adult health for the time being. This study provides reference for other urban pollution risk assessment, and further defines the direction of future work.

USING THE INTEGRAL INDICATOR TO DETERMINE TI-ZR PRIORITY AREAS OF PLACERS

The article presents the author’s method of selection of priority areas of Ti-Zr placers using an integral indicator. As you know, the integral indicator is the ratio of the total beneficial effect from the development of the deposit to the total costs of operation, it is calculated as the difference between the value of conventional ilmenite (according to the US Geological Survey) (Mineral Commodity..., 2023) and the cost of obtaining overburden and processing the productive layer. Based on the methodology developed and presented in the article, an experiment was conducted on the data of one of the placer deposits located within the Ukrainian placer sub-province. It is proposed to develop it in small blocks that ensure high productivity, minimal impact on the environment and allow replenishment the mineral and raw material base of the titanium industry of Ukraine. This technique can be used at any deposit of titanium-zirconium ores both in Ukraine and abroad.

Research on the Rapid Development of China's Industrial Economy and Its Enlightenment to Vietnam

In recent years, facing profound adjustments in the global economy, China has clearly formulated and implemented strategies for the development of its industrial economy. These strategies include strengthening infrastructure, enhancing workforce quality, and expanding both domestic and international markets, effectively spurring rapid growth in the industrial sector. Despite significant achievements, China's industrial sector still faces challenges such as environmental pollution, limited innovative capacity in key technological areas, insufficient investment in basic research, and inadequate development of international markets. Drawing from China's experiences, it is suggested that Vietnam adopt similar strategies to modernize and internationalize its own industrial economy. This approach could accelerate Vietnam's industrial progress and boost its global competitiveness. However, Vietnam should adapt these strategies to its own unique context, emphasizing innovation-driven growth, high-value industries, and digital infrastructure development. By balancing state-driven industrial growth with private sector innovation, Vietnam can establish a resilient and competitive industrial base for long-term success.
