Community Service in Developing Basic English With Various Activities in Pekan Seruway Village

The community service work programme in Pekan Seruway Village carried out by group 3 from the UINSU Campus, Department of Tadris English, which carried out several activities to develop basic English for school children and also carried out several activities with the Seruway Village community. As for some of the activities, namely: EFL (English Fun Learning) which is learning English by playing games with the theme of vocabulary in English with the intention of honing the skills of children at SMP N 1 Seruway, The process of teaching basic English such as adding vocabulary, ice breaking, how to pronounce each vocabulary greetings and also introductions, Workshop with ibu datuk which discusses Pekan Seruway Village, Seminars with the theme of introducing the UINSU campus discussing each department and faculty, Hydroponics, English Film Review, Handicraft which is handicraft for junior high school children, Tadarus with the children of the Pekan Seruway village community, Healthy Life which is afternoon exercise and Studies or conducting Muharram activities with the community and male students of Al-Fuad pesantren. This Work or Service Programme is not only focused on one goal but we also build a family to approach the surrounding community.

Fun with English Activity for Elementary School Age Children At Naungan Kasih-Ende Orphanage

English language skills are one of the gateways to knowing the world globally. This indicates that learning English should be studied massively by various groups. However, not everyone has the same access to this experience. One of them is the children of the Naungan Kasih-Ende Orphanage. This community service activity aims to provide access to Basic English knowledge and skills to orphanage children who are beginner English language learners. This mentoring activity begins with teaching basic English (English for beginners). This activity was carried out for 2 months with an accompanying team consisting of 3 lecturers and 1 student. The partners in this activity were 11 elementary school age children at the Naungan Kasih Orphanage. The learning methods used in this activity vary, including games and songs, role play, drilling, total physical response with the aid of the learning media. The result of this activity is enthusiasm for learning English in a learning atmosphere without boring feeling. This pleasant learning atmosphere has a positive impact on improving participants' Basic English skills as measured by the test scores obtained at the end of the activity.

Innovative Exploration of First-Class Curriculum Construction Path for Basic English

Against the backdrop of the new liberal arts, high-quality construction of foreign language courses is essential. Basic English, as one of the foundational courses for the Business English major at our institution, addresses common issues such as weak listening and speaking skills and lack of autonomous learning ability among the majority of students. The course team has progressively explored a blended teaching model combining physical classroom + online teaching platforms (DingTalk live broadcast + Rain Classroom) + student mobile terminals. This model adheres to a teaching philosophy centered on student-centered + output-oriented + continuous improvement, focusing on the cultivation of applied talents in the new liberal arts. It integrates teaching resources to establish a comprehensive classroom and effectively implements the N+1+1 diversified evaluation system. Additionally, it deeply explores and designs the teaching content with the concept of one course, one ideology and politics, helping students to tell Chinas story well in English and fulfilling the fundamental task of moral education.

Interactive Multimedia Learning for Basic English Education

Dalam proses pembelajaran, dosen memberikan stimulus namun sebagaian siswa tidak memberikan respon. Siswa merasa tidak fokus dalam pembelajaran karena merasa tidak bisa menguasai penggunaan bahasa Inggris yang dipelajari. Berdasarkan hal tersebut maka tujuan penelitian ini yaitu mengembangkan Multimedia Interaktif Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Dasar. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah Penelitian dan Pengembangan (penelitian dan pengembangan). Model yang digunakan dalam mengembangkan produk yaitu ADDIE. Subjek penelitian yaitu ahli media, desain, dan material. Jumlah subjek uji coba sebanyak 43 siswa. Penelitian pengembangan ini menggunakan angket, wawancara, dan observasi sebagai teknik pengumpulan data. Instrumen pengumpulan data berupa kuesioner. Teknik analisis data yaitu deskriptif kualitatif, kuantitatif dan statistik inferensial. Hasil penelitian yaitu penilaian yang diberikan oleh ahli media pembelajaran yaitu 3,2 (sangat baik). Ahli desain pembelajaran yaitu 3.3 (sangat baik). Ahli materi pembelajaran yaitu 3.2 (sangat baik). Rata-rata kepraktisan produk multimedia interaktif yang dikembangkan sebesar 94,5% dengan kriteria “Sangat Praktis. Uji efektifitas menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan rata-rata hasil belajar siswa setelah menggunakan Multimedia Interaktif Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Dasar. Multimedia yang disimpulkan dapat dikatakan layak untuk digunakan sebagai media dalam pembelajaran dan dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar Bahasa Inggir Dasar.

О структуре личностной ответственности курсантов образовательных организаций ФСИН России

Introduction. The article presents theoretical and empirical analysis of the problem of personal responsibility in national and foreign psychological works. The results of the study of personal responsibility of cadets of educational establishments of the Federal Penal Correction Service of Russia are described. The aim of the research was to identify the structural elements of personal responsibility of cadets of educational establishments of the Federal Penal Correction Service of Russia. The empirical study was conducted at the Academy of Law and Management of the Federal Penal Correction Service of Russia. The participants were 165 cadets representing courses 1 to 5. Each course covered 33 respondents. The scientific problem is to study the personal responsibility of cadets of the educational establishment of the Federal Penal Correction Service of Russiaand to determine its structural elements. Research methods and techniques. To determine the structural elements of personal responsibility of cadets of educational establishments of FSIN of Russia the following methods and techniques were used: “Multidimensional functional diagnostics of responsibility-110 (“OTV-110”)” (V. P. Pryadein,O. V. Mukhlynina); “A Shortened “Basic English” Version (Form C) of the 16 PF Questionnaire” (R. Kettell); “Motivation of success and fear of failure” (A. A. Rean); “Moral reliability questionnaire (MRQ)” (E. Yu.Strizhov); “Test-questionnaire of selfattitude – SAR” (V. V. Stolin, S. R. Pantileev). The research revealed: the structure of personal responsibility of cadets of educational organisations of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia includes: 1) regulatory and dynamic components; 2) personal components; 3) motivational and semantic components. The regulatory and dynamic component comprises ergidity, stenicity, and internality. The personal component is made up of emotional stability, self-attitude, self-control of emotional reactions, the level of empathy, the ability to solve personal and operational difficulties. The motivational and semantic component includes sociocentricity, meaningfulness, recognition of responsibility to norms, understanding of the need to comply with norms, and the level of achievement motivation.

THE CONCEPT OF PROPITIATION IN OUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE DEATH OF CHRIST

The English word “propitiation” (Greek hilastērion) is not in common theological use today. Modern theology has generally become uneasy with it. The aversion to it is because the idea is associated with the sense of appeasing an angry deity brought in from pagan use and practice. This has resulted in the removal of the traditional translation “propitiation” with many modern English Bible translations preferring “expiation,” or “atoning sacrifice,” or some other general phrase. Thus, for example, while the New King James Version of Romans 3:25 is translated, “whom God set forth as a propitiation,” and the English Standard Version, “whom God put forward as a propitiation,” other modern translations are different. The New International Version is rather, “sacrifice of atonement;” Revised Standard Version has “an expiation by his blood;” Common English Bible, “place of sacrifice;” The Bible in Basic English, “the sign of his mercy.” This article insists that we must not just reject the use of the word propitiation simply because it was wrongly understood in pagan quarters. It conveys something vital when we come to consider what God has done for us in Christ. Until recently, many understood by this word that the death of Christ has effected the removal of the wrath of God and made us the recipients of his mercy. The cross brought satisfaction to violated justice.

Developing Basic English Module for Secondary Level: Task Based Language Teaching

The purpose of this study is to provide a suitable English-language curriculum for SMP Negeri 1 Bone-Bone. The five steps of the ADDIE model—analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation—are used in research and development as part of the research design. It used Ellis's (2017) Task Based Approach as a model to create the module. This research uses instruments such as observation, a questionnaire and interview for need analysis, expert validation, and a questionnaire for student and teacher perception. That designed module was tested on ten students of SMP Negeri 1 Bone-Bone. Therefore, the students' perception results obtained an average score of 3.64 which shows that the English module design is suitable for SMP Negeri 1 Bone-Bone. These results are supported by the results of the student questionnaire at SMP Negeri 1 Bone-Bone which are summarized as follows: the module consists of three themes, covering student needs, attractive design and layout, various integrated activities and skills, and providing guidelines for use. With modules, students can learn independently because they are adaptive and the instructions are easy.

Improving English language skills for human resources at CV. Langgeng Jaya, Jombang

Globalization necessitates the world of work to have proficient Human Resources (HR), particularly in foreign language skills. English, being an internationally utilized foreign language, serves as an additional advantage in the professional domain. This activity aims to ensure that HR at CV. Langgeng Jaya, Jombang, possesses basic English skills, especially in the vocabulary related to the transportation industry. The method employed for this activity includes observation, socialization, drilling, practice, and question-and-answer sessions (interviews) with HR. The results of this activity indicate an enhancement in the basic knowledge of English related to the transportation sector among HR at CV. Langgeng Jaya, Jombang. The percentage reveals that 82% of human resources now comprehend basic English, compared to the initial 40% from a total of 50 people. It can be concluded that there has been an improvement in HR skills for engaging in conversations using basic English.

Analisis Kesalahan Simple Past Tense pada Latihan Menulis Recount Text pada Materi Kuliah Bahasa Inggris Dasar (Studi Kasus pada Kelas 63.1C.25 Jurusan Akuntansi Fakultas Ekonomi & Bisnis 2022/2023 UBSI)

This study investigated the misapplication of the simple past tense formula by 43 students who attended the Basic English course at the Department of Accounting, Faculty of Economics and Business, Bina Sarana Informatics University. The research data was obtained from the analysis of participants' recount text writing exercises to evaluate their ability to understand the formula. The research method applied is qualitative descriptive. Research findings show one common mistake that often arises, namely in the use of sentence elements that do not conform to the simple past tense formula. The error comes from students' negligence and lack of accuracy when completing assignments, as well as the tendency to mix past tense formulas with other tenses. Data collection is carried out through direct observation of student activities. The purpose of this study is to gain a deeper understanding of common mistakes in the application of simple past tense formulas, especially in the context of teaching basic English in a university environment.

The Influence of Study Interest, Perceived Autonomy Support, and Student Enthusiasm on Class-Related Boredom of English Majors

In Chinese universities, most English majors are taught by teachers, and students attend classes and do homework. Students are often passive in their study, which can make them lose study interest, negatively affect their study and cause boredom in class. Although previous studies have studied the class-related boredom of some English courses, they have not compared the level of it between different English courses. Besides, in previous studies, study interest and perceived autonomy support, two factors that affect class-related boredom, have received a lot of attention, while student enthusiasm has not received enough attention. Based on Control Value Theory, this study examines the degree of class-related boredom experienced by English majors in various English courses from the three factors including study interest, perceived autonomy support and student enthusiasm in an effort to diminish it in a more focused manner. The respondents are 884 English majors (94.1% female) from a university in Shanxi Province, China. And SPSS 26.0 is used for descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression analysis. Studies show that Advanced English Listening has the lowest degree of class-related boredom, but Basic English has the highest one. This study also finds that study interest, perceived autonomy support and student enthusiasm in English major courses are significantly negatively correlated with class-related boredom.

“Basic English”: An Android-Based Teaching Media for Students Grade 7th Built-in Construct 3

The use of technology and information in Indonesia is widely spread. Various groups have been reached with gadgets that are pretty sophisticated and can be used for multiple purposes, not only for sending messages or news, listening to music, watching videos or films, and playing online games but can also be used as learning media, especially after the COVID-19 outbreak hit Indonesia. For about two years, educational facilities in Indonesia have been running online. Unfortunately, the use of technology in education is still not optimal. This research aims to help teachers and students optimize technology use in supporting learning and teaching activities. Using Construct 3, an application to learn English for grade 7 students of SMP/MTs was successfully created. The Basic English game contains a summary of material and practice questions that can be accessed and operated using Android on students' cell phones anywhere and anytime.

Developing Basic English Learning Material Based on Project Based Learning

<p>Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan bahan ajar Bahasa Inggris berbasis Project Based Learning untuk Mata Kuliah Wajib Umum (MKWU), dengan fokus pada peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi mahasiswa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Penelitian dan Pengembangan (Research and Development) dengan mengadopsi model ADDIE. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari 30 mahasiswa yang mengambil MKWU Bahasa Inggris, dipilih melalui purposive sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara, lembar validasi, dan kuesioner, dengan teknik analisis data kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian ini berupa bahan ajar Bahasa Inggris berbasis Project Based Learning. Analisis kebutuhan mahasiswa menunjukkan bahwa 76,7% responden atau 23 orang memilih modul digital, sementara 43,3% responden atau 13 orang memilih materi ESP dan Basic English yang dilengkapi dengan video dan latihan soal. Hasil validasi produk menunjukkan skor 86 untuk konten, 89 untuk desain, dan 83 untuk bahasa, dengan nilai uji kelayakan dan kepraktisan mencapai 87. Respon positif mahasiswa terhadap bahan ajar ini juga terlihat dari hasil angket, dengan tingkat persetujuan mencapai 93% untuk setiap indikator. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa bahan ajar Basic English berbasis Project Based Learning ini layak dan dapat diterima sebagai materi pengajaran.</p>

The Influence of Constructivist Learning Style on College Students' Learning of Basic Subjects

Today, constructivism has become an important research topic in university discipline studies. Multiple studies have shown that using a constructivist approach to learning may have a positive impact on the learning of college students. The researchers looked at the factors involved in using or not using this method. However, more detailed research on the impact of constructivism on learning is lacking. Therefore, this paper collects data through questionnaires, takes the university basic course Advanced English as an example, using variance analysis, correlation analysis and frequency analysis and other methods to explore the impact of constructivist learning methods on college students English subject learning. The results show that: 1. Although nearly half of college students use constructivist learning methods in their daily English learning, only about 25% of students choose constructivist learning methods when preparing for CET-4 and CET-6, and most students prefer to prepare for the test by accumulating English knowledge in daily life. 2. The students who learn English with the constructivist learning method and the students who learn English with other learning methods are not much different in the final grades of Level 4. Different learning methods have a great influence on students learning, and the high score ratio of students who use constructivism in CET-4 will be higher than those who use other learning methods. The impact of learning methods on students performance is not as important as imagined. Students who use constructivist learning methods for English learning do not have better grades in the CET-4.

Research on the Innovation Path of English Culture Teaching Methodology in Universities Based on Cluster Analysis

Abstract In this paper, firstly, based on cluster analysis in data mining technology, we propose to build an English online learning platform based on the system of B/S structure and realize the research on the innovation path of the English culture teaching method through the online learning platform. Secondly, the clustering analysis is carried out by taking a certain number of students’ level test data from the database of the studied English culture online learning platform, which is divided into four modules: basic English, professional English, business English and English listening, and the process of grouping or classifying the given set of data samples by using K-means algorithm, while the data attributes can be calculated according to the objective function correlation. Then, three stages of English culture teaching platform before, during and after class were selected as the research objects, and the K-means algorithm was used to analyze the correlation of English teaching platform satisfaction. The results show that there is a positive correlation between satisfaction of the English culture teaching platform before, during and after the lesson and the correlation strength is |r s| > 0.79, P = 0.000 < 0.01, which is highly correlated. Among them, the correlation coefficient between pre-class and in-class reached 0.871. This study creates an information-based teaching environment and innovates English teaching methods to improve students’ comprehensive English literacy.

ESP Class Activities to Boost Student Engagement in the Classroom: A Case Study

English for Specific Purposes (ESP) is regarded as a challenging course for students since it necessitates not only a solid foundation in basic English but also a strong understanding of professional topics in order for pupils to acquire this material effectively. The authors discovered that there was little student participation in class sessions when teaching ESP. Finding out why students don't actively participate in class activities as well as what kinds of activities can encourage students to do so was the goal of the research. The study was carried out on a group of 24 English students majoring in human resource management at a university in Hanoi. After 6 weeks of face-to-face learning, activities to encourage student participation were applied. Both qualitative (interviews and discussions) and quantitative (surveys) methods are used in the research. The research team used a 5-level Likert Scale survey to collect information from students. Research results have shown the reasons why students limit their participation in activities, as well as the factors that help increase student participation in activities that lecturers deploy in the classroom.

Developing Basic English Module for Junior High School to Promote Students’ Cognitive Development

A module is a supplementary tool for existing teaching materials, allowing students to engage in independent learning by exploring the concepts presented within the module. This approach can enhance students' competence and foster their enthusiasm for the subject. The research aims to ascertain the English material requirements of seventh-grade students at SMPN 4 Bandar Lampung and create a comprehensive English curriculum for this grade level at the abovementioned school. The ADDIE model was utilized to achieve the stated objectives. The need analysis was carried out before the creation of the material. Based on the expert judgment of the material, it has been determined that the average score (X) is 3.6. The score is classified as good due to its placement within the 3.5 < X < 3.75 interval. However, there are two aspects that experts believe require further improvement. These aspects include enhancing the accessibility of the module's materials for students to comprehend and ensuring that the illustrations align with the content presented in the module. To enhance the comprehensibility of the module's content for students, the expert recommended providing more explicit instructions for each step of the activities students must undertake.Regarding the illustrations provided per the module's content, experts have recommended incorporating additional illustrations to enhance the module's level of engagement. Based on the expert judgment and evaluation of the presentation, it has been determined that the average score (X) is 3.75. Based on the obtained score, the categorization can be deemed satisfactory, as the value of X falls within the interval of 3.5 < X < 3.75. The expert has recommended an enhancement of the references or supporting materials. The expert recommended incorporating additional references to enhance the comprehensiveness of the module. Based on the expert judgment of the material, it has been determined that the average score (X) is 3.75. Based on the obtained score, it can be classified as satisfactory, as the X value falls within the 3.5 < X < 3.75 range. The expert recommended one aspect for improvement, specifically regarding the alignment of language usage with the student's cognitive development stage. The expert posited that certain languages may present a level of complexity that surpasses students' cognitive abilities. Consequently, it is recommended that these languages be modified or adapted to better align with the student's learning capacities.
