The Role of Interprofessional Education in Optimizing Laparoscopic Skills Training: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background: This investigation evaluates the utility and benefits of integrating interprofessional education (IPE) into laparoscopic training, aiming to enrich medical education and skill acquisition methodologies. Methods: The study randomly allocated 36 participants of a 2023 laparoscopic training course into experimental and control groups, each comprising 18 individuals. The control group underwent traditional theory and practical training, whereas the experimental group additionally engaged in interdisciplinary instruction with nursing educators and participated in simulated laparoscopic surgery exercises. The effectiveness of this interdisciplinary approach was assessed by comparing laparoscopic theory and simulation performance, Objective Structured Assessment of Technical Skills (OSATS) scores in animal-based training, and course satisfaction between the groups. Moreover, the impact on interdisciplinary collaborative competencies was measured through pre- and post-training self-evaluations using the Interprofessional Collaborative Competency Attainment Survey (ICCAS) in the experimental group. Results: The experimental group demonstrated superior performance in laparoscopic theory and simulation, as well as higher OSATS scores, compared with the control group. Satisfaction ratings regarding the skills practice mode, effects, and instructional quality were also significantly better in the experimental group (P < .05, P < .01). Furthermore, participants in the experimental group reported significant pre-to-post training enhancements in interprofessional communication, team collaboration, role perception, conflict management, and learning and feedback marked by statistically significant differences (P < .05, P < .01). Conclusion: The introduction of an IPE framework significantly boosts laparoscopic training efficiency and promotes team collaboration awareness. This model effectively bridges gaps between disciplines, illustrating substantial applicative value and expansion potential within medical education and skill training arenas.

Radial blended-collaboration in doctoral education: Insights from an Indonesian higher education institute

This study explored how doctoral educators apply a radial blended collaborative (RBC) strategy to teach EFL speaking. This study used a narrative case study design and a qualitative approach. In doing so, teachers employed eight RBCs' strategies: raising collaboration awareness, forming groups based on 21st-century skills, using controlled-chosen topics and theme-based prior knowledge, employing snowball questioning techniques, engaging in role-play in different contexts, conducting peer evaluations, and providing oral and written feedback. This study found that technology integration, such as WhatsApp, Zoom Meeting, Google Classroom, and electronic mail, enhanced the learning experience, whereas pooling WhatsApp messages was used to direct the chosen discussion topics. The results demonstrated that RBC significantly improved students' speaking performance across four instructional dimensions: collaborative awareness, active learning, classroom interaction, and technological integration. Future research should aim to enhance spoken communication by integrating technology in assessments and fostering collaborative learning environments.

Pedagogical strategies in the cotaught K–12 inclusive setting: role responsibility for teacher partners and leaders

ABSTRACT Knowledge of instructional strategies in cotaught K–12 classrooms raises awareness of this unique collaboration for benefitting students with disabilities. The purposes of this qualitative study were to (1) identify pedagogical strategies that facilitate coteaching in inclusive environments and (2) explore the relevance of coteaching teams and administrative support for these partnerships. Interviewing during the coronavirus pandemic involved nine experienced general and special educators (coteachers) from elementary, middle, and secondary schools in Virginia, USA. Practices of inclusive education and leaders’ involvement in coteaching were revealed. Coteaching strategies, administrative needs, and tips for future partners were probed in the interviews. Individual partners’ communication, responsibilities, tasks, and expectations were other areas of interest. Investigating how coteaching teams instruct and perceive administrative support contributes to the research. Importantly, the relationship of coteaching to leadership is crucial to the viability and effectiveness of instructional collaboration.

Photoprotection and dermatological profile of persons with albinism in Plateau state, Nigeria: findings from a collaborative awareness and screening outreach program

Introduction As a result of genetically being deficient of melanin, albinos are particularly susceptible to skin damage from ultraviolet rays leading to photodermatoses such as sunburns, dermatoheliosis, and cutaneous cancers. These negatively affects quality of life and cause premature death. Little is known of the photoprotective measures available to and dermatological profile of persons with albinism in Plateau state, North Central Nigeria. Objective To describe the dermatological profile of albinos in Plateau state, Nigeria, photo exposure levels, photoprotection strategies, and factors associated with presence of photodermatoses. Patients and methods Consenting individuals with albinism attending the sensitization event hosted by the Centre for Albinism Right and Empowerment Network were recruited. Demographic information, occupational history, solar exposure, photoprotective practices, and perceived sun exposure were all documented using semistructured questionnaires. Physical and dermatological examination, dermoscopy, and laboratory investigations were used to make diagnosis. Statistical package for social sciences, version 26, was used to carry out univariate and bivariate analysis. Results While a wide spectrum of skin diseases was observed among the 59 albinos that participated. Photodermatoses were three times more than nonphotodermatoses. The commonest photodermatoses were solar elastosis (55.9%), solar lentigines (44.1%), actinic keratosis (27.1%), and sunburn (25.4%). Skin cancers affected 10.2% of all patients and 16.6% of persons more than or equal to 20 years. Generally, the presence of photodermatoses was associated with age and occupation while actinic keratotic changes specifically was associated with living in rural areas (P=0.035). Despite this, only seven (11.9%) owned sunscreen at the time of study with more than a third (35.2%) being ignorant of existence of sunscreen lotions. Conclusion Continuous multifaceted programs that involve tracking, education, prevention, early detection, and treatment of photodermatoses will be planned to be targeted towards persons with albinism living in Plateau state.

Research on the Winning Factors of 3x3 Basketball Techniques

Background and Aim: China's three-player basketball sport developed rapidly after being approved by the International Olympic Committee as an Olympic event, but there are obvious shortcomings in theoretical research, technical training, tactical strategies, and international experience. The lack of in-depth theoretical research and technical training models makes it difficult for players and coaches to fully understand the characteristics and winning factors of three-player basketball, resulting in insufficient international competitiveness. In contrast, other countries such as Serbia and Latvia have performed outstandingly in this field. If China can attach importance to the theoretical research and technical training of three-player basketball, and establish an effective training model, it is expected to rapidly improve the level of three-player basketball. Materials and Methods: This article aims to deeply explore the winning factors of 3x3 basketball technology. By comprehensively using literature review, mathematical statistics, and video analysis methods, the 3x3 basketball tournament of the 32nd Tokyo Olympics is taken as the research object to conduct in-depth research on 3x3 basketball technology. Results: Latvia, the champion team of the 3x3 basketball tournament at the 32nd Tokyo Olympics, emphasizes teamwork. They have a higher three-point shooting percentage than their opponents, have more crucial close-range shots, and have a clear advantage in free throw shooting percentage. The proportion of team cooperation scores is high, mainly achieved through pick and roll assists, with high breakthrough times and success rates. They perform well in rebounding and have good error protection, but need to balance pressing and fouls. These factors together helped them achieve victory. Conclusion: In terms of scoring, the team should focus on diversified three-point training, strengthen pick and roll coordination, improve breakthrough and layup abilities, as well as free throw techniques. Cultivate team collaboration awareness and cooperation skills to ensure excellent overall performance of the team. In terms of assists, focus on practicing pick and roll and direct pass techniques, while strengthening breakthrough and finishing abilities. In breakthrough training, emphasis is placed on improving the ability to break through cover and position perception. In terms of rebounding, mistakes, and fouls, emphasis is placed on teamwork in attacking, cultivating rebounding skills, intelligent pressing, and quick counterattacks to improve the team's performance in these key areas. These training strategies help teams gain more scoring opportunities in matches and improve their overall competitive level.

Exploring Listening Relationship Pattern of Information Approval Process in Science Learning: A Qualitative Investigation Using TBLA (Transcript Based Lesson Analysis)

&lt;p dir="ltr"&gt;&lt;span&gt;This study reveals listening relationship patterns in the information approval process used to improve the quality of learning dialogue, especially in science learning. A qualitative method with a case study approach was used to analyze listening relationship patterns in science learning during one semester. A total of 3 science teachers, 31 students, and two academics involved in lesson study for learning communities were selected to capture a mutual listening relationship pattern in receiving information with a natural performance and not tense when observing. Observation, documentation, and clinical interviews were used as data collection techniques. Video and audio recorders were involved as documentation tools for this study. Transcript-based lesson analysis (TBLA) was included in conducting data analysis. The listening relationship patterns analysis results in classical discussion sessions in cycles 1–3, which tend to have semi-equal listening relationship patterns. Meanwhile, the listening relationship pattern in group discussion sessions in cycles 1 to 3 tends to be the isolated listening relationship group pattern. The shift in the pattern of listening relationships in group discussion sessions is caused by several factors, including student collaboration awareness, heterogeneous composition of students, tasks, and questions that challenge students, and appropriate interruptions of teacher direction. The research results provide a reference for reflection on developing teacher professionalism to improve more effective and meaningful learning.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;

Model of collaborative information retrieval behavior using information systems among academic researchers of medical sciences

Aim The purpose of this study was to analyze the collaborative information retrieval (CIR) behavior among faculty members of research centers based in the University of Medical Sciences to present a structural model. Methodology The type of this experimental study was based on a pretest-posttest with the control group. Data were collected using a questionnaire, and the participants were selected by stratified random sampling. Out of a total of 73 participants, there were 42 people in the intervention group and 31 participants in the control group. Findings The variables of awareness, information sharing, division of labor, and team communication had a significant positive relationship with the team collaboration (p &lt; 0.05), collaboration had effect on the evaluation of retrieved information with a significant positive relationship (p &lt; 0.05). Conclusion Based on the findings, CIR is the set of activities that can include factors such as the ability to share the obtained knowledge, analyze the retrieved information, communicate, and collaborative awareness. The structural model confirmed our findings that developing the interactive and synergies capabilities of research team members to increase collaboration through a network-based structure reduces the loss of stored collective knowledge and also accelerates the process of access to information resources, and required content. Originality This research has carried on as the one of the first studies on collaborative information retrieval behavior with an experimental method in Iran and many others countries. A considerable point in the present study was assessing the nature of CIR behavior from the perspective of human behaviors, which was mentioned as a very important approach in information science. Accordingly, a human behavioral approach to information retrieval was considered and strengthened, regardless of technical aspects. Another strength of this study was the model extracted from our findings which have emphasized specifically CIR as specific and dynamic activities.

Capacity and needs assessment of veterinary services in Vietnam in biosecurity, biosafety and One Health.

The Asia-Pacific region is recognised as an epicentre of emerging infectious diseases (EIDs), of which 75% are zoonotic in nature. Vietnam is recognised as a potential hotspot for zoonotic EIDs. There is a growing recognition that progress towards global health security requires greater focus on collaboration between the human health and animal health sectors to control diseases at their animal source and prevent against human health impacts. Assessment of veterinary epidemiology capacity in Vietnam is paramount to strengthening the health security of Asia-Pacific. This study aims to evaluate the national capacity and needs of veterinary services in Vietnam in biosecurity, biosafety and One Health. A cross-sectional, convergent mixed-methods study was conducted between November 2020 and April 2021. An online questionnaire was administered to government-employed field veterinarians. Descriptive analyses and logistic regression models were performed using survey responses to understand capacity in the field. Semi-structured interviews were also conducted with stakeholders in veterinary services including government, academia, research institutes, non-profit and international organisations. Coding and thematic analysis using a deductive approach was used for data collected from interviews to contextualise findings from the survey and understand institutional capacity. In total, 178 field veterinarians completed the online survey and 25 stakeholders were interviewed. The majority of participants had reported receiving training in biosecurity and biosafety, including use of personal protective equipment. Most respondents reported practicing good biosecurity measures (92%) and good biosafety measures (88%). Physical and socioeconomic barriers to practicing biosecurity were reported to be prevalent for smallholder farmers, which may suggest a gap in the capacity of veterinary services to provide cost-effective and practical biosecurity strategies. Seventy five percent of participants had never or rarely participated in One Health approaches in the field in the last 12 months and 69% reported further training as a high priority. There was a knowledge gap reported amongst district and commune-level veterinary staff about the need for, and awareness of multisectoral collaboration. Respondents that completed postgraduate qualifications in epidemiology or Field Epidemiology Training Programs (adjusted OR: 3.06; 95% CI: 1.01, 9.23, p = 0.046) and had longer job tenure between 10-12 years (OR: 10.38; 95% CI: 3.06, 35.15, p = <0.001) were more likely to have higher levels of experience in One Health. This study identified gaps in knowledge, attitudes and adoption of practices related to biosecurity, biosafety and One Health specifically in lower-level or less experienced veterinary staff without further training opportunities in epidemiology. These findings enable prioritisation of training, policy, and planning activities to further enhance the national capacity of veterinary services in Vietnam.

Inclusive practices in an independent private school: Insight into teachers' perspectives, beliefs and practices

AbstractThis descriptive case study examines the perspectives, beliefs and practices of independent private schoolteachers in India about the inclusion of students with special educational needs in general education classrooms. Data were collected through one‐to‐one interviews and focus group discussions with 10 teachers in an independent private school in South Delhi. The analysis of the data highlights that teachers possess limited knowledge regarding meeting the educational needs of students with disabilities in their classrooms. Teachers are faced with challenges in implementing full inclusion in the absence of consistent guidelines on inclusion, the definition of inclusive education in the legislative framework, the knowledge gap and the student‐centred approach. Additionally, the study identifies a lack of collaboration between teachers and parents as a potential factor leading to the non‐implementation of inclusive education practices. The study highlights the significance of professional development sessions in raising teachers' awareness about the importance of differentiation, individualised instruction and technology integration for achieving full inclusion. Key Points Private schoolteachers in India face challenges similar to those in public schools regarding the inclusion of students with special educational needs. Limited opportunities for collaboration and communication with stakeholders, coupled with financial considerations and a profit‐driven approach in some private schools, can overshadow the inclusion of students with special educational needs. Professional development sessions are crucial in enhancing teachers‘ awareness of collaboration, differentiation, individualised instruction and technology integration for achieving full inclusion. Policy makers should prioritise the development of clear and unambiguous guidelines for inclusive education in independent private schools, outlining responsibilities and mandating training programs for educators and administrators.

SOCIAL WORKERS’ AND NURSES’ VIEWS ON COLLABORATIVE WORK IN A SETTING WITH SKILLED NURSING CARE

Abstract This study compares social workers’ and nurses’ views on collaborative work using descriptive and thematic analysis of semi-structured in-depth interviews conducted at an urban retirement and assisted living community including independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing care in a United States Midwestern city. Social workers (N=11) and nurses (N=12) responded to questions about how they spent their time, with whom (job category) they worked most and least closely, and what constrained collaborative work. Descriptive analysis showed that social workers exercised greater collaborative awareness than nurses and viewed nurses as partners with whom they worked most closely, whereas nurses did not view social workers and non-clinical peers as such. Qualitative analysis showed that social workers were more focused on resident self-determination, advocacy, and requisite care whereas nurses’ orientation was directed toward safety, tasks, and clinical outcomes. In terms of collaborative work, the devalued professional identity of social workers was a threat to collaborative work whereas nurses portrayed failures in collaborative work as stemming from individual actions and attributes. Different approaches to collaborative work between social workers and nurses can impede teamwork. Interprofessional training focused on long-term services and supports may help to reconcile disparate approaches and strengthen collaborative work between social workers and nurses.

Mean-field reinforcement learning for decentralized task offloading in vehicular edge computing

Vehicular Edge Computing (VEC) is a promising paradigm for providing low-latency and high-reliability services in the Internet of Vehicles (IoV). The increasing number of mobile devices and the diverse resource requirements of the growing IoV have resulted in a shift from centralized resource management to a decentralized approach. This shift offers improved fault tolerance, scalability, and privacy preservation. However, constructing collaborative awareness and coordination mechanisms between multiple vehicles and edge nodes in a decentralized manner is a challenge. To address this issue, we propose a decentralized many-to-many task offloading method that aims to minimize the average task completion latency of vehicles. In this study, we propose a data-sharing mechanism between vehicles and edge servers using the digital twin service, which provides global environmental perceptions to the vehicles by a low-cost approach. Additionally, we develop a mean-field multi-agent reinforcement learning algorithm to generate coordinated task offloading schemes. Instead of interacting with multiple agents, the vehicle only needs to respond to the mean action of the environment. Based on this transition, the agent generates coordinated task offloading decisions in complex scenarios. We evaluate the performance of our method using real urban traffic data. Experiment results verify the efficiency of our proposed method.

A Fast Scenario Transfer Approach for Portrait Styles Through Collaborative Awareness of Convolutional Neural Network and Generative Adversarial Learning

The fast scenario transfer for portrait styles has been a universal concern in the area of image processing. Conventionally, it was realized mostly by manual manipulation based on expertise experience, which costs a large amount of human labor. To fit the growing business volume in the era of Internet 4.0, it is supposed to investigate reliable autonomous workflow that generates portrait-style results via intelligent algorithms. Therefore, this paper proposes a fast scenario transfer method for portrait styles through collaborative awareness of convolutional neural network (CNN) and generative learning (GAL). On the one hand, a CNN structure is designed to make feature extraction towards the initial images, which can be used for following image generation. On the other hand, the GAL is utilized to generate new images with post-transferred scenario styles, so that the expected scenario style transfer results can be output by generating new images through long-term iterations. Especially, the loss function is designed by simultaneously considering local and global characteristics. Finally, the analysis and experimental results show that the correction process can be completed by injecting the extracted input face features into the feature maps of corresponding sizes in the generation process using a pre-trained feature extractor. Thus, the face conversion efficiency can be improved.

A Global Teacher Education Vision for the Prevention of Gender-Based Violence

This paper invites consideration of the role of global teacher education provision in developing global citizenship and social justice aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 5 and 10. It explores how global teacher education resources, with and for social justice, can influence knowledge, skills, attitudes and habits to support and strengthen initiatives for the prevention of gender-based violence. Through an autoethnographic research approach, the paper reflects on the extent to which an inclusive learning design, shared across different country contexts, can contribute to a process of empowered learning for the prevention of gender-based violence. The findings and results of this study suggest that inclusive learning design can enhance the process and practice of creating spaces for developing collaborative awareness and communities of practice to prevent gender-based violence through education.

Total Quality Management (TQM) And Its Implementation In Islamic Education Management

This article discusses the concept of Total Quality Management (TQM) and its application in the context of education, specifically Islamic education. TQM is an approach that encompasses two interconnected concepts: the philosophy of continuous improvement and methods such as brainstorming and field analysis to enhance quality. The article explains that TQM is a holistic and systematic approach aimed at achieving long-term excellence in quality, with a focus on customers and a commitment to continuous improvement. The concept of Total Quality Management (TQM) in education addresses aspects such as customer service, participation of all relevant parties, measurement of graduate quality, stakeholder commitment, and continuous improvement. The success of TQM is measured through customer satisfaction levels, both among students and parents. Awareness of individual responsibility and collaboration within the educational community are crucial for the implementation of TQM. In addressing the challenges of Islamic education, this article proposes the application of the TQM approach, which includes important aspects such as customer focus, participation of all relevant parties, evidence-based approach, leadership commitment, and systemic approach. The article provides an in-depth analysis that by applying TQM principles, educational institutions can create an environment focused on continuous improvement, resulting in better educational quality and the development of outstanding human resources. Language Awareness and Nominal Group Technique in Effective Group Collaboration

This research explores the Nominal Group Technique (NGT) in group decision-making and its impact on language awareness. NGT, introduced in 1971, involves structured problem-solving through written communication, fostering creativity and equal participation. It enhances language precision, encouraging clear and professional communication among group members. NGT also promotes active listening and critical thinking. The paper outlines the five key NGT steps and underscores the unique role of group facilitators. NGT's strengths include effective opinion identification, equal participation, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills development. However, it has limitations, such as inflexibility and potential participant dominance. Training programs are crucial for successful NGT implementation.

Hearing Health Care Stakeholders' Perspectives on Teleaudiology Implementation: Lessons Learned During the COVID-19 Pandemic and Pathways Forward.

The purpose of this study was to explore how teleaudiology is perceived by Australian-based hearing health care stakeholders (clients, clinicians, students, academics, and industry partners) to inform future teleaudiology implementation. Five cross-sectional online surveys were adopted, and a total of 366 stakeholders responded (173 clients, 110 clinicians, 58 students, 19 academics, and six industry partners). Results show that 55% of clients and over 90% of clinicians, students, academics, and industry partners knew what teleaudiology was. Experience in teleaudiology appointments was shared by 85% of clinicians and 7% of clients. Moreover, 98% of clients were not offered any teleaudiology appointments. Teleaudiology apps were used by 66% of clinicians and 26% of clients. Both clients and clinicians acknowledged the benefits of teleaudiology including convenience and accessibility and identified drawbacks, such as loss of personal interaction and communication difficulty. About 80% of students and academics reported inclusion of teleaudiology within their universities' curriculum but only to a limited extent. Low teleaudiology uptake rates in placement clinics, as well as insufficient funding and staffing, were suggested as barriers to learning and teaching teleaudiology. Industry partners were generally confident in training clinicians to use teleaudiology products and teaching students on teleaudiology, but only one industry partner had been invited by universities for teaching purposes. Low teleaudiology use and reserved attitudes toward widespread teleaudiology implementation were observed among clients. Clinicians, students, academics, and industry partners generally displayed positive attitudes toward teleaudiology use. The Monkeypox virus, declared a global emergency outbreak, has garnered increasing response globally. The African healthcare community has not translated urgency in its response to the increasing outbreak. The multisectoral influence of COVID-19 has ensured that response patterns to the emerging outbreak must hold ground for proactiveness. The push for stronger health systems reiterated with the COVID-19 pandemic ensures that a successful response requires awareness of knowledge management, multisectoral and international collaboration and strengthening of systems capacity. The intricacies of the infection transmission ensure that interventions must promote equity and justice as well as financial protection of the population.

Fostering a diverse mentoring dynamic in art therapy

A cross-cultural mentoring dyad that emerges from a more internally motivated, non-obligatory relationship has the potential to co-evolve into a collaborative awareness of diverse educational experiences, cultural perspectives, and critical examinations. We present our rationale and benefits for a successful mentoring foundation built on trust that was first initiated to discuss shared experiences of working with profoundly challenging forensic populations. The value of converging and diverging viewpoints between us, further informing a deeper examination and reflections on our own identities and dynamics of power, eventually evolved into a goal-focused endeavor such as writing and publishing. Ultimately, we emphasize the value of mentoring within and for the art therapy community, particularly to amplify diverse connections and learning, one relationship at a time.

Year-round dengue fever in Pakistan, highlighting the surge amidst ongoing flood havoc and the COVID-19 pandemic: a comprehensive review.

Dengue fever (DF) is an arthropod-borne viral infection caused by four serotypes of dengue virus (DENV 1-4) transmitted to the host by the vector mosquito Aedes, which causes fever, vomiting, headache, joint pain, muscle pain, and a distinctive itching and skin rash, ultimately leading to dengue hemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome. The first case of DF in Pakistan was documented in 1994, but outbreak patterns began in 2005. As of 20 August 2022, Pakistan has 875 confirmed cases, raising alarming concerns. Misdiagnosis due to mutual symptoms, lack of an effective vaccine, the weakened and overburdened health system of Pakistan, irrational urbanization, climate change in Pakistan, insufficient waste management system, and a lack of awareness are the significant challenges Pakistan faces and result in recurrent dengue outbreaks every year. The recent flood in Pakistan has caused massive destruction, and stagnant dirty water has facilitated mosquito breeding. Sanitization and spraying, proper waste management, an adequate and advanced diagnostic system, control of population size, public awareness, and promotion of medical research and global collaboration, especially amidst flood devastation, are recommended to combat this deadly infection in Pakistan. This article aims to comprehensively review the year-round DF in Pakistan, highlighting the surge amidst ongoing flood havoc and the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.

Providing Dual Awareness using Multimodal Cues for Collaborative Manipulation in Virtual Environments

Virtual reality (VR) collaborative manipulation requires a proper understanding of the user’s self, other collaborators, and shared objects in the virtual environment. Users must be aware of the movements of themselves and others to coordinate their actions when they hand over an object or move it together. The awareness of collaboration plays an essential role in virtual environments. However, previous studies have focused on providing awareness only for cooperative manipulation. This study proposes a novel framework for dual awareness that comprehensively manages the state of interactions between multiple users and shared virtual objects and provides distinct sensory cues to distinguish themselves from collaborators. The experimental results showed that participants could easily and quickly collaborate on manipulation using our feedback, and they also answered positively in the subjective evaluation.
