The multilayer relaxation of the stepped Pd{3 2 0} surface has been reanalyzed by quantitative low energy electron diffraction using two different programs, CHANGE and Symmetrized Automated Tensor LEED. Relaxations with respect to the bulk value of 0.539 Å are −0.05 ± 0.03, −0.14 ± 0.03, +0.09 ± 0.03, −0.07 ± 0.03, +0.07 ± 0.03 and +0.03 ± 0.03 Å for the first six interlayer spacings, respectively (negative sign corresponds to contraction). The relaxation sequence (− − + − + +) is thus in agreement with the theoretical prediction. The relaxations are damped in a nonuniform manner. The Pendry R-factor for the favored structure is 0.26.
