Abstract: Historically, libraries have employed barcode-based book management systems for book identification, self-check-in, anti-theft, inventory control, and book classification. The process is manual. We suggest an RFID-based library management system that allows for quick transaction processing and streamlines the borrowing and returning of books from libraries with minimal manual labour. The suggested system has the ability to store data electronically that can be read by a reader. Using RFID tags, the system can issue and receive books. It can also use library databases to compute relevant factors like due dates, renewal dates, and fines.

Intelligent Information Service System of Smart Library Based on Virtual Reality and Eye Movement Technology

An innovative system provides intelligent services in the library to both users and the terminal. Compared to the core digital reading room, they can make wise judgments on the retrieval and use of information assets. The implementation of succeeding value management based on the latest technological tools is required for learning to provide knowledge services and fulfil its role as convergence is capable of reacting to varied data needs. The major obstacles to digital libraries are lack of planning and software, import restrictions on equipment, inadequately skilled staff, lack of standards, and a refusal to cooperate. This paper introduces the Eye Movement Technology (EMT) for the intelligent information service system of a smart library (SL) based on virtual reality (VR) strengths as an automated library management system for cost savings and increased output. EMT technology that can identify a person’s appearance and monitor something to look at in real-time is recognized as wearable technology. Visual field position and the gaze vectors for each eye are converted into a data stream that includes the focus origin. Most of the library’s operations can be managed by librarians; in a word, this system allows them to keep track of all of their books’ transactions. The research in EMT-SL technology in the intelligent library system has developed to the point that a wider audience can use it. As a result, eye-tracking in reading rooms and information science research are expected to rise in the future; with the advancement of VR, the computer-generated modelling of images is experienced through special electrical devices, and people can be visible in different climates using traditional VR and augmented reality.

Automated library management system for public libraries in the Philippines

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to develop a computerized system that will increase the efficiency and supervision of library activities, thereby providing easy access to library usage for librarians and library users.Design/methodology/approachThe researchers use the agile methodology to develop and implement the system. PHP, JavaScript, Hypertext Markup Language, Cascading Style Sheets and SQL are the languages used to create the library management system.FindingsThe developed system received an overall rating of 4.42 with a descriptive rating of “Excellent.”Originality/valueThe automated library management system is a computerized system for the public libraries designed in the Philippine setting to make the library’s processes more efficient, reliable and portable especially in times of pandemics.

Usage and awareness of OPAC by faculty of university library, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad

OPAC is an interactive search module of an automated library management system. Any type of reading materials is searched directly from the managed database of the library. Catalogue is the face of the libraries and the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) changed the conventional card catalogue structure. This paper presents and analysis online public access catalogue services provided by University library, university of agricultural sciences, Dharwad. It also discusses the purpose, frequency, awareness on use of OPAC. The result of the study shows that the faculties of UASD are aware about use of OPAC and regularly using to trace the library holdings by Title, Author, Subject, etc.

RFID Technology Based Library Management System

The present invention demonstrates the designing of an automated library system which is based on RFID Technology. The system helps in reducing staff requirement, increasing the efficiency of the management, reducing cost, increasing accuracy and security of the management. In the system RFID technology is explained as an application for library management system which is extremely helpful to implement such an automated library management system. The system includes 3 layers for operation wherein these are a hardware system, a software system, and ware layer. The functioning of each and every module is described in the projected paper. The project is implemented for university/college/school libraries. The system explains whole functioning starting from and ending to circulation of books.

Information Technology Skills for Library Professionals

It is becoming increasingly apparent that library professionals, working within the technological environments, needed strong Information Technology Skills which extended beyond expertise in the use of automated library management systems for general house keeping purposes. However, the actual nature and level of these skills was less clear. In converged services, i.e. those where computing and library services had been integrated, and in those services with strong IT focus, distinctions between ‘computing’ services and ‘information’ services were starting to blur, with library professionals tending to be deployed on the basis of their experience and skills, rather than their professionals qualifications. Increased provision of workstations, the growth of electronic information resources, and the increasing popularity of the Internet, has led to a requirement for library professions who are confined with computers, and who are able to support and serve others. The digital era requires professionals who thrive on change, and who are proactive in terms of both their approach to work and their own professional development.

This is a brief report on a pilot project funded by the European Commission TEMPUS programme concerned with the modernisation of the university libraries in Syria and the enhanced visibility of the research outputs of the Syrian academic community. As background, it outlines the current state of the country's electronic and scholarly publishing, and the development of national and university computer networks. It reviews the project's contribution to introduction of automated library management systems with online catalogues and institutional repositories, and the expansion of journal collections. The issues likely to impact on further developments are discussed. Aspects of current professional education, including a shortage of qualified librarians with contemporary professional knowledge and skills, inhibit development. Other major challenges are the lack of effective strategic planning and poor management systems.

Information Retrieval Using The Great Dane

The nature of the courses offered by Southampton Institute and the consequential variety of in‐house databases available meant that power and sophistication in information retrieval was a priority in the selection of an automated library management system. The solution was the purchase and installation of the Danish Supermax system which combines library housekeeping with powerful information retrieval: the background to the choice is described and the facilities offered outlined. The Institute is the first UK user of Supermax; there are, however, many installations throughout Europe.

The Data Trek automated library management system in the Library of the Royal Society of Chemistry

The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Library offers a full range of library and information services to the Society's 42,000 members and the chemical community as a whole. Computers were first used in the Library in 1977 for online searching. In 1987, the cataloguing and circulation modules of the Data Trek automated library management system were installed and in mid‐1988 a Novell network with four workstations was set up. By mid‐1989, an OPAC was in place and the card catalogue was only used for pre‐1986 items. In 1990, serials management and acquisitions modules together with three more workstations were added to the network; a CD‐ROM player was also installed. The paper gives details of this and related development work and also how a total file server disc crash was dealt with in early 1991.
