Pengaruh Model Pembelajaran Langsung Berbasis Praktikum terhadap Sikap Ilmiah Siswa Kelas VII SMP Negeri 1 Gangga

The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of a direct, practicum-based learning model on the scientific attitudes of class VII students at SMP Negeri 1 Gangga, North Lombok Regency. This research is a quasi-experimental research with a Pretest Posttest Control Group Design. The population in this study were all class VII students at SMP Negeri 1 Gangga, with the research sample consisting of two classes, namely class VII A with 28 students as the experimental class and class VII B with 28 students as the control class taken using random sampling techniques. Based on the research results, it is known that both classes experienced an increase in scientific attitudes. The percentage of scientific attitudes of the experimental class and control class was 74.51% and 67.65% respectively, increasing to 86.27% and 72.55%. The results of this research indicate that there is an influence of the practical-based direct learning model on the scientific attitudes of class VII students at SMP Negeri 1 Gangga.

Improving Students' Science Process Skills Through Project Based Learning Models: A Systematic Review

Science process skills are very important for students to apply scientific methods and develop knowledge in order to gain new knowledge or enrich existing knowledge. Science process skills can be facilitated through learning with a project based learning (PjBL) model. This research aims to identify and analyze research trends of PjBL model to improve science process skill in science learning. This research method is descriptive and analytical. The data used in this research was obtained from documents indexed by Google Scholar from 2015-2024 using Publish or Perish and Dimension.ai. Research procedures use PRISMA guidelines. The data identified and analyzed are the type of publication, publication source, and the title of research on PjBL model to improve science process skill in science learning that is widely cited. The data analysis method uses bibliometric analysis assisted by VOS viewer software. The results of the analysis show that research trend on PjBL model to improve science process skill in science learning indexed by Google Scholar from 2015 to 2024 has experienced a fluctuating increase. However, in 2024 there will be a decline in the research trend on it. There are many documents in the form of articles, proceedings, chapters, preprints and edited books that discuss research into the PjBL model to improve science process skill in science learning. Key words that are often used in research about it are local wisdom, inquiry model, PBL, scientific attitude, etc.

Interactive Audio-Visual Learning Media Through Articulate Storylines Containing Problem-Based Contextual Learning to Improve Students' HOTS and Scientific Attitudes

This study examines the development of interactive audio-visual learning media using Articulate Storylines with problem-based contextual learning to improve students' higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) and scientific attitudes. Integrating Problem-Based Learning (PBL) with audio-visual media aims to address the challenges of modern education by encouraging critical thinking skills, creativity, and problem-solving in real-world contexts. The media design includes a login interface, learning materials on fluid dynamics, interactive quizzes, and evaluations. This study evaluates students' practicality, effectiveness, and scientific attitudes after using this media, with results showing moderate to high increases in HOTS. Validation tests show that this media is well-structured, engaging, and supports active learning, although the interactivity aspect can still be improved. N-Gain analysis shows that students improve their critical and analytical thinking skills per Bloom's Taxonomy and constructivist theory. These results indicate the potential of this media to enhance student learning outcomes.

A New Framework for Food Catering Price Determination

This article aims to propose a reasonable quantitative (mathematical) expressions for the price calculation of food-manufacturing products. Little research has been conducted on the validity of food product pricing; thus we have identified a need for a thorough, systematic investigation in this area. The suggested three methods are also applicable for developing the artificial intelligence system to solve raw food material (resources) quantity management and other inventory issues in collaboration with the food suppliers. We consider the option of an appropriate pricing strategy in the profit-making catering and other food production firms to be a relevant scientific issue, which we have have addressed and proposed solutions for in this article. By analyzing different scientific assumptions and attitudes, informed quantitative decisions were made. We also developed and described quantitative expressions for determining the price of food products using mathematical formulas. Also, we found that a simple three-digit rule, based on logic and proportional modeling of actions, as the main instrument is the most effective approach for formulating these pricing models. Original and innovative mathematical methods for the price accounting of food production have been created and explained. We have also explained how each of the three suggested methods works, along with their advantages and disadvantages in certain situations. Using these recommended methods of pricing will allow food companies to achieve more appropriate commercial results and to make less expenditure for decisions regarding the pricing of food products. In the article, we explained how to calculate the prices of food and catering companies using simple math. The application of any of the three mentioned techniques regarding existing circumstance will enable food production companies to ensure a straightforward yet accurate determination of the product price that aligns with the current situation.

Is science skepticism really about science?

Abstract Despite the recent rise in public and academic concern, science skepticism remains ill-defined. This paper sets out to further our understanding of science skepticism and to inform both academic research and policymaking. Departing from a review of the academic literature on conceptualizations of science skepticism, we employ Eurobarometer 2021 data to explore the characteristics of people holding skeptical attitudes concerning climate change and evolution. Replicating prior findings, we observe minor variations across sociodemographic characteristics. Moreover, science skepticism relates to general science attitudes in a nonuniform manner within and across issues, and interest in and engagement with science are nonuniformly related to skepticism. Furthermore, science skepticism is inconsistent in its relationship to both attitudes and relationships with science across contexts. Based on the heterogeneous nature of skepticism(s), we argue that research and policy should be careful in approaching science skepticism as a general negative predisposition toward science.

What’s in it for citizen scientists? An analysis of participant’s gains from a democratisation perspective

Citizen science projects optimise the democratisation of the production of scientific knowledge. In these initiatives, research processes do not rely solely on scientists’ but on citizens’ engagement likewise with benefits on both sides. As previous work shows, the democratisation perspective of citizen science projects might be viewed critically as some groups of citizens tend to be overrepresented in these initiatives while other are left out. This paper explores the claim of democratisation and the citizens’ benefits based on four citizen science projects in the fields of astrophysics and particle physics on the citizen science platform Zooniverse. Besides a general engagement strategy, the citizen science projects addressed two groups specifically, the elderly and people with visual impairments. The claim for democratisation is reflected in the analysis of citizens’ demographic variables as an indicator for accessibility of the research projects. We used a pre-post design with questionnaires on science attitudes, motivations, skills, self-efficacy, and knowledge to assess what citizen scientists gained from participating in the project. The demographic analysis of the data reveals that participants were quite heterogeneous and that people who feel that they belong to a group that is discriminated against are particularly motivated to participate in citizen science projects. In terms of benefits, the results indicate knowledge and scientific skills gains, but no changes on other evaluative dimensions. Their attitude towards science was, in general, already rather positive when joining the projects, thus not leaving much room for change. These results confirm the importance of and call for a diversified citizen science engagement strategy and show that even in citizen science projects where the citizens’ task is limited to classifying data lead to scientific knowledge and skills gains.

Development of Project Based Learning Based Practicum Modules to Improve High School Students Understanding of Concepts

Abstract The aim of physics learning in high school is for students to physics concepts and their relationships and a scientific attitude to solve the problems they. Based on issues in independent curriculum and condition of SHS Country 8 ST being a newly established school still in the process of building its school premises, hence the laboratory facilities are not adequate, there is a need for the development of practicum modules for physics learning. Model in this research uses Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation (ADDIE) model. Results of the trial on grade XII MIPA students obtained satisfactory results for use. By using a questionnaire several questions about understanding physics concepts for this research. The limited trial results obtained an average score of 3.9 or 78% the category good, and based on the expanded trial results, an average score of 4.04 or 80.08% the category good was obtained. In conclusion “the Project Based Learning physics laboratory module dynamic electricity materials” is suitable for learning use in conditions of new and inadequate school infrastructure for carrying out practicum activities with PHET Simulation.

The Influence of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) Model on Student's Science Process Skills and Critical Thinking

Applying the project-based learning model in learning can train and develop scientific attitudes and problem-solving skills so that students can increase creativity, innovation, and critical perspectives. This research aims to determine the effect of the project-based learning model on student's science process skills and critical thinking. The research subjects of class X Phase E. This research was quantitative research with a quasi-experimental research design with a non-randomized control-group pretest-posttest design. The instruments used are essay questions on science process skills and critical thinking. The test results were analyzed using Quade's rank analysis of covariance statistical test and the One Way Ancova test. The research results show that the average pretest-posttest score of experimental class students taught using the project-based learning model is higher than that of control class students taught using the problem-based learning (PBL) model. Hypothesis testing using Quade's rank analysis of Covariance and One Way Ancova tets informs that the use of the project-based (PjBL) model affects student's science process skills and critical thinking.

Development of Scientific Attitude Profile Evaluation Using Accumulation, Demonstration, Exercise, Reflection and Create (ADERiC) Learning Models Based Self-Efficacy

Learning is a process of interaction between students and their environment so that changes in behaviour for the better occur. This research aims to develop and evaluate a scientific attitude profile evaluation tool that uses the Accumulation, Demonstration, Exercise, Reflection, and Create (ADERiC) Learning Model based on Self-Efficacy. Through a Research and Development (R&D) approach using a 4D model, this research designed and tested this evaluation tool in the context of physics learning. The research results show that the application of the ADERiC model evaluation tool significantly increases students' involvement in the learning process, as well as strengthening their ability to solve problems and develop a positive scientific attitude. Evaluations carried out through the instruments developed indicate an increase in students' self-efficacy along with the use of innovative learning models. These results confirm that the integration of ADERiC in physics learning can facilitate deeper conceptual understanding as well as the practical application of physics, contributing to improving the effectiveness of teaching and learning in schools. This research succeeded in designing and validating an evaluation tool that is able to measure these aspects effectively.

Learners Attitude and Academic Success Towards Science

Aim. COVID-19 disrupted education, leading to new learning methods. Other factors like attitude are overlooked but can aid effective learning. This paper explores two major variables: the learners’ learning attitude and academic performance in science. The study analysed students’ learning attitude, academic performance, and relationships in a blended learning setting for science. Method. The study used a mixed-methods design, with both quantitative and qualitative phases. Participants were in a blended learning program. Results. Learning can happen in a blended learning modality, with the learners’ mean grade of 87.03 (Very Satisfactory). Learners have a favourable learning attitude towards science (3.49; moderate attitude). The highest aspect of the learning attitude of learners in the blended learning modality is affective (3.72; high attitude), followed by cognitive (3.62; moderate attitude) and behavioural (3.15; moderate attitude). Furthermore, there was a positive correlation, r(78) =.48, p < 0.01, between the LLATS and SAP of the learners in blended learning. Conclusion. Learning can effectively take place in a blended learning modality. Learners exhibit a positive attitude towards science learning in a blended learning environment, with affective attitudes ranking the highest, followed by cognitive and behavioural attitudes. This can be attributed to the teachers’ efforts in providing ample opportunities for the development of both affective and cognitive aspects of attitude. However, the pandemic has presented limitations in cultivating positive behaviour attitude. Learners persevered through challenges, thanks to dedicated teachers fostering positivity and academic growth.

­Soviet ‘Easterns/Osterns’ of the 1920s: Adventure Films on the Caucasian Frontier of Russia

The article elucidates the issue of representation in Soviet cinema of historical events that transpired during the formation of the Caucasian frontier and the interactions that emerged between the indigenous population and the tsarist troops. The term “Eastern” is analogous to the term “Western” which refers to films about the exploration of the Wild West. This is a useful way of conceptualizing Soviet silent films created on Caucasian material from the 19th–early 20th centuries. This article aims to examine feature films from the 1920s that depict Russia’s advance into the Caucasus. It seeks to identify similarities and differences between these films and the first Soviet “Easterns/Osterns” and “Westerns,” as well as to analyze the influence of ideological attitudes in historical science on the interpretation and depiction of events that took place on the Caucasian frontier. The visual sources utilized in this study include the silent films ‘Abrek Zaur’ (1926), ‘The Law of the Mountains’ (1927), and ‘Zelimkhan’ (1929). Additionally, published materials from the 1920s, including periodicals such as newspapers and magazines, were consulted. The study yielded insights into the stylistic similarities between classic Westerns and the first Soviet Easterns, including the portrayal of protagonists, the use of action and stunts, and the incorporation of jumps. The content of the films is correlated with real historical events, but they reflect the Bolshevik paradigm of history in the study of ethnosocial conflicts in the Caucasus. In films about highlanders, masculine culture is a dominant feature due to gender attitudes and the national cultural identity of the peoples of the Caucasus. Films about mountaineers were instrumental in shaping perceptions of the Caucasus during the early decades of the twentieth century. They illustrate the attributes of traditional culture, daily life, customs of mountain village inhabitants, the characteristics of the landscape, and architectural features. In general, films of an adventurous nature created on Caucasian material are of interest to those with an affinity for classic cinema, particularly the earliest Soviet Eastern films, as well as to researchers seeking to gain insight into significant historical and cultural information. This article is intended for those engaged in the study of the history of Soviet cinema.

The Effect of the Problem Based Learning Model on Students' Problem-Solving Ability and Scientific Attitude

This study aims to analyze significant differences in problem-solving skills and scientific attitudes between students who learn using the Problem Based Learning model and students who learn using the Discovery Learning model and determine the effective contribution of learning using the PBL model developed to students' problem-solving skills and scientific attitudes simultaneously. This research approach uses a quantitative research approach with a quasi-experimental method. The research population is 5 classes of students in grade XI MIPA Malinau for the 2023/2024 academic year. The sample was determined by random sampling technique against the class. Based on the random results, class XI MIPA1 was selected as a group of students using the Problem Based Learning learning model and class XI Mipa 3 using the Discovery Learning learning model. Data on problem-solving ability were collected by tests, while scientific attitudes were collected by questionnaires. The data was analyzed by One way Multivariate. The results of the study showed that: (1) there was a significant difference in problem-solving ability and scientific attitude between students who learned with the Problem Based Learning model and students who learned with the Discovery Learning model; (2) the effective contribution of learning using the PBL model to problem-solving ability and scientific attitude simultaneously was 0.46 or 46.1%.

Science Learning for Early Childhood Students with Science Games Play

From an early age children must be equipped with various sciences knowledge, including science. This research aims to review various sources about the science play as a form of learning method at the PAUD level as well as knowing the effectiveness of the science play method in learning science learning in early childhood. Science learning is a process that emphasizes skills of acquiring knowledge and developing scientific attitudes. Science learning is a process of understanding the nature of science itself, namely curiosity, process, product and application/attitude. The literature that was collected in the form of journals, articles and books relevant to the topic, then interpret and analyzed the sources, interpretation of the sources and compiled them in a systematically and structured. Early childhood is a period of child development that is interesting to observe. This is because it involves complex processes, both those that occur inside (physiological and psychological) and outside (environment). The science play method is effective in learning science in early childhood, including; it can improve science abilities and science learning outcomes, introduce and improve basic science process skills and improve children's science concepts.

Profile of Students’ Scientific Literacy Competence and Attitudes toward Online Learning Using Microsoft Teams

One of the important elements of education that must be developed is scientific literacy. Regarding the impact of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 during the current pandemic, namely with changes in system digitization, demanding learning systems integrated through the internet network. Online learning has become a demand in education in the last few years. This study aimed to analyze the Scientific Literacy profile of high school students in terms of competence and attitudes towards science in online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research is a mixed quantitative and qualitative research. The research subjects were 105 respondents taken by purposive sampling from senior high schools in Central Java, Indonesia. Data was collected using tests, questionnaires, and interviews. The results showed that the Scientific Literacy profile regarding competence and attitudes towards science was moderate. Important factors must be considered in online learning: educators’ ability in online settings, interactions between students, teachers, and content, and the intentional relationship between online and offline activities in school activities and practice in the field.

Evidence-based scientific thinking and decision-making in everyday life.

In today's knowledge economy, it is critical to make decisions based on high-quality evidence. Science-related decision-making is thought to rely on a complex interplay of reasoning skills, cognitive styles, attitudes, and motivations toward information. By investigating the relationship between individual differences and behaviors related to evidence-based decision-making, our aim was to better understand how adults engage with scientific information in everyday life. First, we used a data-driven exploratory approach to identify four latent factors in a large set of measures related to cognitive skills and epistemic attitudes. The resulting structure suggests that key factors include curiosity and positive attitudes toward science, prosociality, cognitive skills, and openmindedness to new information. Second, we investigated whether these factors predicted behavior in a naturalistic decision-making task. In the task, participants were introduced to a real science-related petition and were asked to read six online articles related to the petition, which varied in scientific quality, while deciding how to vote. We demonstrate that curiosity and positive science attitudes, cognitive flexibility, prosociality and emotional states, were related to engaging with information and discernment of evidence reliability. We further found that that social authority is a powerful cue for source credibility, even above the actual quality and relevance of the sources. Our results highlight that individual motivating factors toward information engagement, like curiosity, and social factors such as social authority are important drivers of how adults judge the credibility of everyday sources of scientific information.

Academic Culture and Students' Scientific Attitudes In Improving The Quality of Higher Education: Research at the Indonesian Institute of Education and Garut University

Building an academic culture is not an easy thing to do, it requires socialization and supervision of all ongoing academic activities, so that a habit is built among the academic community to obey and comply with the academic rules that have been set. The purpose of this study is the implementation of academic culture and scientific attitudes of students in order to improve the quality of higher education. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. This research was conducted at the Indonesian Institute of Education (IPI) Garut and Garut University (UNIGA) as the research locus. By using a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Data collection techniques using interview techniques, observation, and documentation. The stages of data analysis were carried out by reducing data, displaying data, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that the academic culture of students at IPI Garut includes a culture of literacy, research, seminars and publications. Then the scientific attitude of IPI Garut students can be seen from classroom discussions. The academic culture of students on the UNIGA campus includes seminars, workshops, publications, etc. The scientific attitude of UNIGA students includes critical thinking, curiosity, discussion, writing and other activities. However, all of these things have not been fully implemented properly.

Analysis of The Use of Problem-Based Learning Model in Improving Learning Outcomes of Hindu Religious Education in Grade V Students of UPT SD Negeri 6 Arawa Sidrap

The learning process does not teach students to work together in groups, resulting in less active learning. Students also lack the critical thinking skills required to solve problems. This issue arises due to teachers' lack of knowledge and the absence of innovative learning models. Consequently, it leads to low student learning outcomes, necessitating research to examine this matter. The objective of this study is to analyze the implementation of a problem-based learning model in improving the learning outcomes of Hindu religious education in grade V students of UPT SD Negeri 6 Arawa, Sidrap Regency. The research approach employed is qualitative research with the type of library research. Data sources include books, scientific journals, magazines, newspapers, and other relevant information. The informants were selected based on their relevance to the topic under study. Research instruments comprised books, scientific journals, and other relevant documents. The data collection technique employed was documentation study, while qualitative content analysis was used for data analysis. The findings indicate that the problem-based learning model is an appropriate choice for teachers who wish to develop students' analytical abilities, enable them to apply existing knowledge in new situations, and encourage independent and responsible problem-solving skills. This model enhances students' critical, analytical, systematic, and logical thinking abilities, enabling them to find alternative solutions to problems through empirical data exploration, ultimately fostering a scientific attitude. In conclusion, the use of problem-based learning models can improve learning outcomes in Hindu religious education in grade V students of UPT SD Negeri 6 Arawa Sidrap.

Guided Inquiry Method and Self-Efficacy on High School Students' Physics Learning Outcomes

A change in the learning paradigm is needed to develop a scientific attitude to form students who are creative, critical, open, innovative, and competitive. This study aims to analyze the effect of the guided inquiry learning method and self-efficacy on students' physics learning outcomes. This research is true experimental research that compares the application of the guided and free inquiry methods. This study involved 70 students from 2 classes selected by simple random sampling. The instruments used in this study were self-efficacy questionnaires and student learning outcomes. The data collected were then analyzed descriptively and inferentially using SPSS 20. The results showed that applying the inquiry method and self-efficacy influenced students' physics learning outcomes. Applying the guided inquiry method and high student self-efficacy resulted in high learning outcomes. Conversely, they applied the free inquiry method with low self-efficacy, which resulted in low learning outcomes. However, there was no interaction between the inquiry method and self-efficacy.
