Grant, MD, MBA, FASA, at ANESTHESIOLOGY® 2022 in New Orleans, Louisiana, this October. The DSA is ASA's highest honor and is presented annually to a member who has transformed the specialty of anesthesiology. Dr. Grant was recognized for his highly distinguished career as an anesthesiologist, enduring contributions to ASA members, and deep commitment to advocating for the specialty and protecting patient safety. Jim Grant served as ASA President in 2017–18. His term was marked by a number of pressing challenges – and an equal number of significant successes. In response to persistent shortages of injectable drugs, Dr. Grant oversaw the creation of a robust Drug Shortage Survey and the ASA Drug Shortage Registry, which was likely the most thorough and widely referenced such registry in the medical community at the time.
