Creation of a Software Tool with Elements of an Artificial Neural Network for Data Forecasting

Currently, Russia is moving towards automating the collection of information from metering devices for heat, gas, water, electricity, etc. Technologies are being developed that allow transmitting data on resource consumption through various communication channels, both wired and on-air. There are already devices and devices that allow transmitting readings of electricity metering devices over existing wired communication networks, and this issue is being resolved at the legislative level, federal Law No. 522-FZ of 01.07.2020 has been adopted. The basis for the research is to save time and effort to obtain the necessary information to take into account the readings of electricity from substations, increase the speed of decision-making, to be able to predict the situation with big data to identify abnormal values and eliminate them (for example, identified data from electricity meters will reduce the time labor costs of accounting operators and economic losses of the energy supply company). The article proposes software methods for detecting data on electricity losses based on the use of artificial neural network algorithms and allowing to detect inconsistencies of commercial data readings of electric meters, which will reduce the commercial component of electricity losses. A verification calculation of an artificial neural network was performed for inconsistencies in the data on the transmitted electricity.

An Artificial Neural Network for Data Forecasting Purposes

Considering the fact that markets are generally influenced by different external factors, the stock market prediction is one of the most difficult tasks of time series analysis. The research reported in this paper aims to investigate the potential of artificial neural networks (ANN) in solving the forecast task in the most general case, when the time series are non-stationary. We used a feed-forward neural architecture: the nonlinear autoregressive network with exogenous inputs. The network training function used to update the weight and bias parameters corresponds to gradient descent with adaptive learning rate variant of the backpropagation algorithm. The results obtained using this technique are compared with the ones resulted from some ARIMA models. We used the mean square error (MSE) measure to evaluate the performances of these two models. The comparative analysis leads to the conclusion that the proposed model can be successfully applied to forecast the financial data.

Identification of heparin samples that contain impurities or contaminants by chemometric pattern recognition analysis of proton NMR spectral data

Chemometric analysis of a set of one-dimensional (1D) (1)H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectral data for heparin sodium active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) samples was employed to distinguish USP-grade heparin samples from those containing oversulfated chondroitin sulfate (OSCS) contaminant and/or unacceptable levels of dermatan sulfate (DS) impurity. Three chemometric pattern recognition approaches were implemented: classification and regression tree (CART), artificial neural network (ANN), and support vector machine (SVM). Heparin sodium samples from various manufacturers were analyzed in 2008 and 2009 by 1D (1)H NMR, strong anion-exchange high-performance liquid chromatography, and percent galactosamine in total hexosamine tests. Based on these data, the samples were divided into three groups: Heparin, DS ≤ 1.0% and OSCS = 0%; DS, DS > 1.0% and OSCS = 0%; and OSCS, OSCS > 0% with any content of DS. Three data sets corresponding to different chemical shift regions (1.95-2.20, 3.10-5.70, and 1.95-5.70 ppm) were evaluated. While all three chemometric approaches were able to effectively model the data in the 1.95-2.20 ppm region, SVM was found to substantially outperform CART and ANN for data in the 3.10-5.70 ppm region in terms of classification success rate. A 100% prediction rate was frequently achieved for discrimination between heparin and OSCS samples. The majority of classification errors between heparin and DS involved cases where the DS content was close to the 1.0% DS borderline between the two classes. When these borderline samples were removed, nearly perfect classification results were attained. Satisfactory results were achieved when the resulting models were challenged by test samples containing blends of heparin APIs spiked with non-, partially, or fully oversulfated chondroitin sulfate A, heparan sulfate, or DS at the 1.0%, 5.0%, and 10.0% (w/w) levels. This study demonstrated that the combination of 1D (1)H NMR spectroscopy with multivariate chemometric methods is a nonsubjective, statistics-based approach for heparin quality control and purity assessment that, once standardized, minimizes the need for expert analysts.

An integrated Data Envelopment Analysis–Artificial Neural Network–Rough Set Algorithm for assessment of personnel efficiency

Personnel specifications have greatest impact on total efficiency. They can help us to design work environment and enhance total efficiency. Determination of critical personnel attributes is a useful procedure to overcome complication associated with multiple inputs and outputs. The proposed algorithm assesses the impact of personnel efficiency attributes on total efficiency through Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Rough Set Theory (RST). DEA has two roles in the proposed integrated algorithm of this study. It provides data ANN and finally it selects the best reduct through ANN result. Reduct is described as a minimum subset of attributes, completely discriminating all objects in a data set. The reduct selection is achieved by RST. ANN has two roles in the integrated algorithm. ANN results are basis for selecting the best reduct and it is also used for forecasting total efficiency. The proposed integrated approach is applied to an actual banking system and its superiorities and advantages are discussed.
