EXPLORING THE BENEFITS, CHALLENGES AND GUIDELINES OF DEVOPS ADOPTION: A SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW AND AN EMPIRICAL STUDY

This study aims to explore the benefits and challenges of DevOps adoption in the rapidly evolving landscape of DevOps and Information Technology (IT) firms. DevOps is a software development approach that emphasises communication and collaboration between software developers and IT operations teams, aiming to streamline processes and enhance software delivery. Despite the growing popularity of DevOps, there are several challenges to its adoption, including stakeholder confusion, a lack of clear processes and guidelines, and a lack of empirical studies that discuss the challenges of DevOps. To establish a foundation of understanding and provide insights into the benefits, challenges, and guidelines for DevOps adoption, this study uses a two-fold approach, including a systematic literature review and conducts semi-structured interviews involving six organisations of various sizes. The interviews aimed to obtain evidence of DevOps adoption in practice and to detail real scenarios and explain the role of each category during DevOps adoption. The study provides insights into the challenges faced by software organisations in adopting the DevOps culture and the benefits of DevOps adoption. The study also proposes DevOps adoption guidelines based on the findings. The findings contribute to the existing literature on DevOps adoption and provide valuable recommendations for software organisations.

Implementation of Waterfall Model and User-Centered Design Integration

User-Centered Design (UCD) is a crucial approach in software development to ensure that the resulting product is user-friendly. However, the implementation of UCD within the software development lifecycle is still rarely discussed. This study aims to examine whether UCD can be integrated into the Waterfall model through the development of a web-based application. The integration process involves applying UCD during the requirements identification phase, followed by the other phases such as analysis, design, implementation, testing, and deployment. The research methods used include observation and interviews with the project implementers of the application development. The findings indicate that integrating UCD into the Waterfall model presents certain challenges, particularly due to the high risk of failure when the development phases do not allow returning to the initial phase that includes the UCD process. The interface evaluation conducted within the UCD process is proven to be crucial for the project's success.

Information System for Data Collection on Building Tools and Materials Using the Rational Unified Process (RUP) Method

UD. FLORA records the re-inventory of building equipment that has been sold by reading the transactions one by one in the ledger. A proper way is needed to overcome the problems that occur. This research aims to create an information system software. In making information system software, a method is needed that can carry out the stages from initial design to implementation of the software. This research uses the Rational Unified Process (RUP) method, namely a software development approach that is carried out repeatedly (iterative), focuses on architecture (architecture-centered), is more directed based on use cases (use case driven). This research produces a tool data collection application at UD. FLORA using the RUP method. The existence of an information system for data collection on building equipment using the Rational Unified Process method means that UD. FLORA can be helped in managing building equipment data collection. The system enables real-time transaction recording, providing better insight into inventory status, and supporting more accurate decision-making.

Impact of Critical Success Factors on Productivity Gain during Automation Testing

Software testing, a linchpin of quality assurance in software development, encompasses both manual and automation approaches. While manual testing ensures meticulous scrutiny, automation accelerates efficiency, reducing time and costs in dynamic landscape of software development. This research investigates the impact of critical success factors on productivity gain in software testing, with a focus on automation, within CMMI Level 5 companies. Drawing from a dataset comprising thirty real-time projects spanning banking, retail, and industrial applications, study explores dynamics of software development under agile and waterfall models. Interviews with developers and testers reveal insights into key aspects influencing productivity, including skills, experiences, and training. Emphasizing the need for strategic automation in projects subject to changes and maintenance, the research analyzes over thirty projects, scrutinizing variables such as manually designed test cases, execution time, and subsequent automation of test cases. Strategic selection of test cases for automation emerges as a cost-efficient practice. Results highlight a correlation between manual and automated test cases, indicating productivity gains. Research introduces a productivity gain metric, showcasing a break-even point where automation significantly reduces testing time. Overall, the findings offer a comprehensive understanding of software testing within CMMI Level 5, guiding organizations toward efficient automation practices and improved productivity.

Low/no-code and traditional code integration in digital banking

This paper seeks to combine the merits of low/no-code programming (LNCP) with traditional programming (TP) systems for increased agility in digital banking software development. While it is easy to fall prey to shiny object syndrome in today’s dynamic banking technology landscape, it is not easy to select the right technology to suit the current and future needs of the financial industry. Instead, LNCP makes it possible to lower the technical entry barriers to technology development. Integrating TP with LNCP, when needed, compensates for the shortcomings related to LNCP and provides digital banks with a more comprehensive software development approach. The adoption of this approach improves time-to-market of new innovative financial solutions. There has been little progress in this direction, academically or in practice. This paper includes an empirical study, interviews with banking professionals, on the merits of LNCP and TP, as well as an experimental project implementation that integrates LNCP and TP in the development of a retail Internet banking application. In the context of digital banking solution development, the result of the experiment reveals the merits of LNCP/TP hybrid systems in terms of agility, scalability, change management and cost-effectiveness.

Rancang Bangun SPK Kualitas Air Sungai Metode Fuzzy Tsukamoto (Studi Kasus: 4 Kecamatan Karawang)

Research reveals that the Citarum River in West Java is seriously polluted, causing problems for humans and the environment, so monitoring of river water quality is necessary. This research proposes the development of a web-based Decision Support System with the SDLC Waterfall model, using the Fuzzy Tsukamoto method based on seven water parameters (EC, TDS, Salinity, pH, ORP, SG, Temperature) to simplify the determination of water quality. This research uses the Research and Development methodology with the SDLC Waterfall model software development approach, which includes the stages of analyzing data requirements and fuzzy logic systems, designing system architecture and features, implementing technology and process results, functional manual testing and model accuracy, and maintenance in the form of documentation and storage. The results showed that the developed DSS can classify water quality based on 7 parameters with a value scale divided into five categories, namely Good, Poor, Medium, Good, and Very Good. Testing was conducted using data from 8 river points in 4 sub-districts in Karawang Regency on April 1, 2024. The accuracy of the DSS model reached 80%. The development of this DSS is expected to provide an initial overview of water quality in a location without requiring an in-depth technical understanding of the water parameters used. This data can also be an initial indicator to determine whether further action or further investigation is required. Suggestions for future research are to integrate the system with IoT to improve its performance and benefits.

Software maintenance practices using agile methods towards cloud environment: A systematic mapping

AbstractAgile methods have emerged to overcome the obstacles of structured methodologies, such as the waterfall, prototype, spiral, and so on. There are studies showing the usefulness of agile approaches in software development. However, studies on Agile maintenance are very limited in number. Regardless of the chosen methodology, software maintenance can be carried out in either a local (on‐the‐premise) or global (distributed) environment. In a local environment, the software maintenance team is co‐located on the same premises, while in a global environment, the team is geographically dispersed from the customer. The main objective of this Systematic Mapping (SM) study is to identify the practices useful for software maintenance using the Agile approaches in the Cloud environment. We have conducted a comprehensive search in well‐known digital databases and examined the articles that map to the pre‐defined inclusion criteria. The study selected and analyzed 48 articles out of 320 published between 2000 and 2022. The findings of the mapping study reveal that Agile can resolve the major issues faced in traditional software maintenance, making the role of this approach significant in global/distributed software maintenance. Cloud computing plays a vital role in software maintenance. Most of the studies highlight the application of XP‐ and Scrum‐based Agile maintenance models. The study found a need for more Agile maintenance solutions in the cloud, highlighting the importance of agile in software maintenance, both locally and globally. Irrespective of the environment, Cloud computing provides a centralized platform for collaboration and communication, while also offering scalability and flexibility to adapt to diverse infrastructure needs. This allows agile maintenance practices to be implemented across both local and global environments, leveraging the cloud's capabilities to overcome geographical and infrastructural challenges.

Web Automation of Capital Management Software using Selenium and Java

Modern software development approaches have come to rely heavily on automated testing, which provides many advantages over manual testing in terms of efficiency, dependability, and scalability. This paper provides a thorough analysis of the developments in automated testing methods, emphasizing the most important approaches, instruments, and industry best practices. The paper examines several automated testing methodologies, including functional testing, regression testing, and performance testing, after providing an outline of the basics of automated testing and outlining its advantages and disadvantages. The paper also explores popular automation technologies, including Selenium, and talks about their features, capabilities, and suitability for various testing scenarios. Further- more, the paper examines emerging trends and future directions in automated testing, including the integration of artificial intel- ligence and machine learning techniques. Through this review, the paper aims to provide researchers and practitioners with valuable insights into the evolving landscape of automated testing, enabling them to make informed decisions and advancements in software quality assurance. Code Generator Development to Transform IFML (Interaction Flow Modelling Language) into a React-based User Interface

Model-Driven Software Engineering (MDSE) is a software development approach that uses the Model to be the main actor of the development. MDSE can be applied to User Interface (UI) Development so that a model for the UI can be built, and then a transformation can be made to turn it into a running application. In this research, we develop UI Generator to support UI Development with the MDSE approach. This UI Generator can also support UI Development in Software Product Line Engineering (SPLE) paradigm. The UI is modeled with Interaction Flow Modeling Language (IFML) diagram. Then The IFML diagram is transformed into React-Based UI by the UI Generator. The UI Generator is developed with Acceleo on Eclipse IDE to transform IFML into React Code with the transformation rules defined in this research. The UI generator is also enriched with display settings and static page management to address user customization needs. The experimental results show that the UI Generator can generate a functional website. Besides evaluating the working product, UI Generator is evaluated qualitatively well based on six quality criteria as an SPLE supporting tool.

Holistic personas to increase the novice developer productivity

A deeper understanding and integration with system users' thoughts and emotional experiences are required for user-engaged development. User experience (UX) journey integrates user requirements and problem-solving approaches. The integration of data-driven techniques and user-centric approaches in software development is investigated in this study. It focuses on using the Markov chain model to predict developer productivity based on data gathered while creating personas across three projects. Organizations can gain valuable insights into user needs and requirements by conducting purposeful activities such as strength, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis, competitor analysis, hypothesis formulation, identification of behavioral variables, mapping interviews, and defining characteristics and objectives. The model has predictive capabilities that allow for more informed decision-making, more efficient resource allocation, and better project planning. The goal of the activity and the model ensure the development of software products that effectively meet the needs of users, resulting in a higher success rate for software development initiatives. This study emphasizes the importance of integrating quantitative and qualitative analysis to drive successful software development projects and increase productivity while meeting user needs. According to the findings of the research conducted from the three projects completed, the proposed methods have similarities, and predictions using the Markov chain can determine the success of novice developers.

الحفاظ على الأصول الرقمية من خلال التخطيط العقاري عبر الهاتف المحمول

Many people own online accounts, with some having financial values like Internet banking, e-wallet and cryptocurrency. In the case of sudden death, their heirs are unaware of the digital assets possessed by the de-ceased person, which causes the assets to be lost forever, and the heirs might not receive the assets. If an estate plan did not account for digital as-sets properly, the beneficiaries would not be able to access them. Therefore, this paper addresses this issue by implementing a software development approach in designing a suitable model for sustaining digital assets through smartphones to allow the inheritance of digital assets to the heirs. The soft-ware development life cycle was adopted as the methodology to identify the model’s components through four phases: requirements analysis, sys-tem design, implementation and test and evaluation. First, this work pro-posed a model named Mobile Estate Planning for Digital Assets (MEPDA). Second, the study demonstrated the component of the model in a smartphone application, and finally, it was tested and evaluated through a usability study with a group of users. Most users suggested that MEPDA is useful and easy to use. Further, they were also satisfied with its functionalities and features. Mobile application for digital asset estate planning is necessary today due to the exponential increase of digital asset ownership with financial values. It could be one way of helping users to allow an efficient inheritance process for their heirs in the case of death. يمتلك العديد من الأشخاص حسابات عبر الإنترنت، حيث يمتلك البعض منها قيمًا مالية مثل البنوك الإلكترونية، والمحافظ الإلكترونية، والعملات المشفرة، في حالة الوفاة المفاجئة، يكون الورثة غير مدركين للأصول الرقمية التي يمتلكها الشخص المتوفى، مما يتسبب في فقدان الأصول إلى الأبد، وقد لا يتلقى الورثة الأصول. إذا لم يأخذ تخطيط العقار الأصول الرقمية في الاعتبار بشكل صحيح، فلن يتمكن المستفيدون من الوصول إليها. لذلك، تعالج هذه الورقة هذه المشكلة من خلال تنفيذ نهج تطوير البرمجيات في تصميم نموذج مناسب للحفاظ على الأصول الرقمية عبر الهواتف الذكية للسماح بوراثة الأصول الرقمية للورثة. تم تبني دورة حياة تطوير البرمجيات كمنهجية لتحديد مكونات النموذج من خلال أربع مراحل: تحليل المتطلبات، تصميم النظام، التنفيذ والاختبار والتقييم. أولاً: اقترحت هذه الدراسة نموذجًا باسم التخطيط العقاري للأصول الرقمية عبر الهاتف المحمول (MEPDA). ثانيًا: أظهرت الدراسة مكونات النموذج في تطبيق الهاتف الذكي، وأخيراً تم اختباره وتقييمه من خلال دراسة استخدام مع مجموعة من المستخدمين. Testability-driven development: An improvement to the TDD efficiency

Test-first development (TFD) is a software development approach involving automated tests before writing the actual code. TFD offers many benefits, such as improving code quality, reducing debugging time, and enabling easier refactoring. However, TFD also poses challenges and limitations, requiring more effort and time to write and maintain test cases, especially for large and complex projects. Refactoring for testability is improving the internal structure of source code to make it easier to test. Refactoring for testability can reduce the cost and complexity of software testing and speed up the test-first life cycle. However, measuring testability is a vital step before refactoring for testability, as it provides a baseline for evaluating the current state of the software and identifying the areas that need improvement. This paper proposes a mathematical model for calculating class testability based on test effectiveness and effort and a machine-learning regression model that predicts testability using source code metrics. It also introduces a testability-driven development (TsDD) method that conducts the TFD process toward developing testable code. TsDD focuses on improving testability and reducing testing costs by measuring testability frequently and refactoring to increase testability without running the program. Our testability prediction model has a mean squared error of 0.0311 and an R2 score of 0.6285. We illustrate the usefulness of TsDD by applying it to 50 Java classes from three open-source projects. TsDD achieves an average of 77.81 % improvement in the testability of these classes. Experts’ manual evaluation confirms the potential of TsDD in accelerating the TDD process.

Analysis of Traditional and Agile Software Development Process for Developing Recommender Model using Machine Learning

Objective: To create an AI-powered recommendation system that is designed for IT professionals to help them choose the best software development approaches. Through the use of specified data parameters. Methods: The recommendation system will make use of machine learning algorithms and data analysis methods to examine team dynamics, project needs, and other variables. The technology will enable developers to improve the quality of products and speed up the development process by recommending suitable development methodologies. Data parameters considered for the development of the recommendation model fall into four categories: requirements, user involvement, development team, type of project, and risk associated with it. Findings: Existing recommendation systems developed by different researchers are applicable for only requirement elicitation and to recommend different phases of the development process, whereas systems that will help select development methodology are not available in the existing systems. Among the five machine learning algorithms applied in the recommender system building process, the DecisionTree Classifier and RandomForest Classifier exhibit superior performance, achieving 100% accuracy, while the Kneighbors Classifier indicates 94.74% accuracy. Novelty: This study of systems introduces a novel approach to software development methodology, a recommender system, which helps IT developers select the best appropriate development approach for the development of a software product or project based on the type of project to be built and other data parameters. From enterprise models to low-code applications: mapping DEMO to Mendix; illustrated in the social housing domain

Due to hyper-competition, technological advancements, regulatory changes, etc, the conditions under which enterprises need to thrive become increasingly turbulent. Consequently, enterprise agility increasingly determines an enterprise’s chances for success. As software development often is a limiting factor in achieving enterprise agility, enterprise agility and software adaptability become increasingly intertwined. As a consequence, decisions that regard flexibility should not be left to software developers alone. By taking a Model-driven Software Development (MDSD) approach, starting from DEMO ontological enterprise models and explicit (enterprise) implementation design decisions, the aim of this research is to bridge the gap from enterprise agility to software adaptability, in such a way that software development is no longer a limiting factor in achieving enterprise agility. Low-code technology is a growing market trend that builds on MDSD concepts and claims to offer a high degree of software adaptability. Therefore, as a first step to show the potential benefits to use DEMO ontological enterprise models as a base for MDSD, this research shows the design of a mapping from DEMO models to Mendix for the (automated) creation of a low-code application that also intrinsically accommodates run-time implementation design decisions.

Agile meets quantum: a novel genetic algorithm model for predicting the success of quantum software development project

Quantum software systems represent a new realm in software engineering, utilizing quantum bits (Qubits) and quantum gates (Qgates) to solve the complex problems more efficiently than classical counterparts. Agile software development approaches are considered to address many inherent challenges in quantum software development, but their effective integration remains unexplored. This study investigates key causes of challenges that could hinders the adoption of traditional agile approaches in quantum software projects and develop an Agile-Quantum Software Project Success Prediction Model (AQSSPM). Firstly, we identified 19 causes of challenging factors discussed in our previous study, which are potentially impacting agile-quantum project success. Secondly, a survey was conducted to collect expert opinions on these causes and applied Genetic Algorithm (GA) with Naive Bayes Classifier (NBC) and Logistic Regression (LR) to develop the AQSSPM. Utilizing GA with NBC, project success probability improved from 53.17 to 99.68%, with cost reductions from 0.463 to 0.403%. Similarly, GA with LR increased success rates from 55.52 to 98.99%, and costs decreased from 0.496 to 0.409% after 100 iterations. Both methods result showed a strong positive correlation (rs = 0.955) in causes ranking, with no significant difference between them (t = 1.195, p = 0.240 > 0.05). The AQSSPM highlights critical focus areas for efficiently and successfully implementing agile-quantum projects considering the cost factor of a particular project.

Development of E-Marketing Model Based on Android/iOS Application for Whale Shark Tourist Destination in Botubarani Village, Bonebolango Regency, Gorontalo

This research is a research conducted to develop an android/iOS application-based e-marketing model in whale shark tourist destinations, Botubarani Village, Bonebolango Regency as one of the marketing media. This research was raised with the premise that information and communication technology is growing. Where information is available and can be accessed anytime and anywhere. The objective of this study is to create an e-marketing model for Whale Shark Tourist Destination in Botubarani Village, utilizing android/iOS platforms. This research uses qualitative methods with a descriptive approach with the main material in the form of primary and secondary data which aims to develop an e-marketing model based on android / iOS applications. Prototyping is an approach in software development that allows interaction between system developers and system users. The results of this study resulted in an android/iOS-based application developed as a marketing model for whale shark tourist destinations in Botubarani Village.

Agile-Scrum Implementation in The Development of Kampus Merdeka Information System

Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program is a program initiated by the Minister of Education and Culture to encourage students to master various disciplines for their preparation in the job market. At the Institut Teknologi Del, the MBKM program is also offered to students. However, its implementation is not yet fully automated and utilizes various different platforms. This research aims to design and develop the Independent Internship & Study Implementation Information System in the Merdeka Campus at the Institut Teknologi Del using the Agile-Scrum approach. The Scrum method is an iterative software development approach that is flexible to changes. The implementation of Agile-Scrum in the development of the MBKM information system helps achieve goals and automate existing systems. This research involves Scrum activities such as sprint planning, daily scrum, sprint review, and sprint retrospective to produce an information system that meets the requirements. The Scrum product backlog is used as a reference during system development throughout the sprint. The development of the information system through agile-scrum has received feedback during the sprint review and has been functionally tested using several testing methods.

Rancang Bangun Sistem Presensi Website Berbasis GPS Di PT Cempaka Mega Mandiri

PT Cempaka Mega Mandiri is a company engaged in processing and selling swallow's nests, both for export and in the local market. Currently, it is known that the attendance system used in this company has an unsatisfactory level of accuracy. Therefore, the author decided to apply GPS technology to increase efficiency in the attendance process, in the hope of providing a better solution for the company. GPS, which stands for Global Positioning System, is a navigation system that uses satellites to identify and synchronize location data from an object on the earth's surface. In this context, the application of GPS technology is considered a strategic step to increase the accuracy of recording employee attendance. This research uses the SDLC Waterfall method as a software development approach. This method involves sequential stages, starting from planning, analysis, design, implementation, testing, to maintenance. The result of this research is the development of a GPS-based attendance website, which is expected to provide an effective solution for improving the attendance system at PT Cempaka Mega Mandiri.

Streamlining Radiology Workflows Through the Development and Deployment of Automated Microservices.

Microservices are a software development approach where an application is structured as a collection of loosely coupled, independently deployable services, each focusing on executing a specific purpose. The development of microservices could have a significant impact on radiology workflows, allowing routine tasks to be automated and improving the efficiency and accuracy of radiologic tasks. This technical report describes the development of several microservices that have been successfully deployed in a tertiary cancer center, resulting in substantial time savings for radiologists and other staff involved in radiology workflows. These microservices include the automatic generation of shift emails, notifying administrative staff and faculty about fellows on rotation, notifying referring physicians about outside examinations, and populating report templates with information from PACS and RIS. The report outlines the common thought process behind developing these microservices, including identifying a problem, connecting various APIs, collecting data in a database, writing a prototype and deploying it, gathering feedback and refining the service, putting it in production, and identifying staff who are in charge of maintaining the service. The report concludes by discussing the benefits and challenges of microservices in radiology workflows, highlighting the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration, interoperability, security, and privacy.

A framework for embedded software portability and verification: from formal models to low-level code

AbstractPorting software to new target architectures is a common challenge, particularly when dealing with low-level functionality in drivers or OS kernels that interact directly with hardware. Traditionally, adapting code for different hardware platforms has been a manual and error-prone process. However, with the growing demand for dependability and the increasing hardware diversity in systems like the IoT, new software development approaches are essential. This includes rigorous methods for verifying and automatically porting Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) to various devices. Our framework addresses this challenge through formal methods and code generation for embedded RTOS. We demonstrate a hardware-specific part of a kernel model in Event-B, ensuring correctness according to the specification. Since hardware details are only added in late modeling stages, we can reuse most of the model and proofs for multiple targets. In a proof of concept, we refine the generic model for two different architectures, also ensuring safety and liveness properties. We then showcase automatic low-level code generation from the model. Finally, a hardware-independent factorial function model illustrates more potential of our approach.
