Canonical triangular interval type-2 fuzzy set linguistic distribution assessment TODIM approach: A case study of FMEA for electric vehicles DC charging piles

Linguistic distribution assessment (LDA) plays a prominent role in describing the subjective uncertainties and objective distribution of decision-maker (DM) opinions. Although there have been several studies on LDA, few of these studies have paid attention to the different understandings of language semantics provided by DMs. To address the issue, type-2 (T2) fuzzy sets (T2FSs) are a well-known approach because T2FSs can accurately model the understanding of individuals with linguistic uncertainty. A trapezium (or trapezoidal) interval type-2 fuzzy set (TrIT2FS) is a common application of T2 fuzzy logic. Accordingly, this paper discusses a novel LDA called a canonical triangular interval type-2 fuzzy set (CTriIT2FS)-LDA in a T2 fuzzy environment. The CTriIT2FS-LDA combines a CTriIT2FS simplified from a TrIT2FS with LDA, which can simplify the computation while retaining their advantages. To facilitate the calculation of the CTriIT2FS-LDA, the basic operations of the CTriIT2FSs and the CTriIT2F-LDA, such as the defuzzied (crisp) function, distance measurement, and entropy measurement, are defined. Based on the TODIM approach, a CTriIT2F-LDA-TODIM is developed for FMEA for interval type-2 fuzzy environments. Furthermore, the proposed approach is applied in a practical case for FMEA for the electric vehicle DC charging piles of the State Grid Corporation of China.

Application of Type-2 Fuzzy Logic Filtering to Reduce Noise in Color Images

In this paper, we present a novel application of type-2 fuzzy logic to the design of an image processing operator called an impulse detector. The type-2 fuzzy logic based impulse detector can be used to guide impulse noise removal filters to significantly improve their filtering performance and enhance their output images. The design of the proposed impulse detector is based on two 3-input 1-output first order Sugeno type interval type-2 fuzzy inference systems. The internal parameters of the type-2 fuzzy membership functions of the systems are determined by training. The performance of the impulse detector is evaluated by using it in combination with four popular impulse noise filters from the literature on four different popular test images under three different noise conditions. The results demonstrate that the type-2 fuzzy logic based impulse detector can be used as an efficient tool to effectively improve the performances of impulse noise filters and reduce the impulse noise undesirable distortion effects.

A survey of medical images and signal processing problems solved successfully by the application of Type-2 Fuzzy Logic

Typical problems concerning to Digital Image Processing (DIP) and to Digital Signals Processing require specific models for each particular problem and the characteristics of the data involved. However, usually these data show a high degree of uncertainty due to the acquisition system itself, noise or uncertainties related to the nature of the problem. They often require considering different points of view of experts in a single model to determine a set of rules or predicates that would achieve the desired solution. Type-2 fuzzy sets can adequately model such uncertainties. This paper presents a study on different applications of type-2 fuzzy sets in image and signal processing, analyzing the main advantages of this type of fuzzy sets in modeling uncertainties. We also review the definitions of type-2 fuzzy sets, their main properties and operations between them.

Type-2 Fuzzy Modeling for Acoustic Emission Signal in Precision Manufacturing

This paper presents an application of type-2 fuzzy logic on acoustic emission (AE) signal modeling in precision manufacturing. Type-2 fuzzy modeling is used to identify the AE signal in precision machining. It provides a simple way to arrive at a definite conclusion without understanding the exact physics of the machining process. Moreover, the interval set of the output from the type-2 fuzzy approach assesses the information about the uncertainty in the AE signal, which can be of great value for investigation of tool wear conditions. Experiments show that the development of the AE signal uncertainty trend corresponds to that of the tool wear. Information from the AE uncertainty scheme can be used to make decisions or investigate the tool condition so as to enhance the reliability of tool wear.

Implementation of the Type-2 Fuzzy Controller in PLC

The main aim of the presented research work was to develop type-2 fuzzy logic controller, which by its own design should be “more intelligent” than type-1. Along with the intelligence it should provide better results in solving a particular problem. Type-2 fuzzy logic controller is not well-known and it is rarely used at present. The idea of type-2 fuzzy logic set was presented by Zadeh in 1975, shortly after the presentation of type-1 fuzzy set. At the beginning scientists and researchers worked on type-1. Only after developing type-1 the attention was directed towards the type-2. The first applications of type-2 fuzzy logic in control appeared in 2003. The fuzzy logic controller type-2 was tested experimentally by controlling a non-linear object: a shape memory alloy (SMA) actuator DM-01PL, made by Miga Motor company, which despite small size distinguishes itself by its 9 N strength. Comparison of experimental data of the fuzzy logic controller type-2 and type-1 clearly indicates the superiority of the former, particularly in reducing signal overshoots.

An intelligent hybrid approach for industrial quality control combining neural networks, fuzzy logic and fractal theory

The application of type-2 fuzzy logic to the problem of automated quality control in sound speaker manufacturing is presented in this paper. Traditional quality control has been done by manually checking the quality of sound after production. This manual checking of the speakers is time consuming and occasionally was the cause of error in quality evaluation. For this reason, by applying type-2 fuzzy logic, an intelligent system for automated quality control in sound speaker manufacturing is developed. The intelligent system has a type-2 fuzzy rule base containing the knowledge of human experts in quality control. The parameters of the fuzzy system are tuned by applying neural networks using, as training data, a real time series of measured sounds produced by good sound speakers. The fractal dimension is used as a measure of the complexity of the sound signal.
