Optimizing Manual Assembly Operations: Ergonomics Analysis and Human-Robot Collaboration

Abstract This paper aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the field of ergonomics, with a specific focus on the application of virtual simulation in the context of manual assembly stations assisted by collaborative robots. The theoretical part of this paper presents a concise introduction to the origins and key figures in the field of ergonomics, highlighting the importance and relevance of this discipline. It also discusses the current methods of ergonomic evaluation and the necessary steps involved in conducting such assessments. Furthermore, it delves into the existing standards, associations, and organizations related to ergonomics, as well as the software solutions available for ergonomic analysis. A case study is presented which demonstrates how to perform an ergonomic analysis using the Ergonomics Evaluation module within the 3D Experience platform. The methodology follows a systematic approach, starting with a physical environment simulation to identify key positions for virtual evaluation. These positions are then simulated using a representative 3D model of the assembly station and selected manikins. The chosen ergonomic analysis method is tailored to the specific movements involved in the assembly activity.

A pilot study comparing immersive virtual reality simulation and computerized virtual patient simulation in undergraduate medical education

Simulation-based teaching is an integral feature within medical education and following the emergence of virtual simulation, an array of possibilities exists for educators to choose between. However, evidence informing their use is scarce, particularly regarding outcomes assessing user experience and knowledge acquisition, and experimental studies comparing different approaches to virtual simulation. Therefore, this study compared immersive virtual reality (VR) simulation to computerized virtual patient (VP) simulation measuring their effect on knowledge acquisition and retention, as well as user experience, in fifth-year medical students. This pilot study, of a randomized crossover design, comprised 18 participants independently completing an immersive VR simulation and a computerized VP simulation. All participants completed the same two scenarios and received an induction to both modalities. Multiple-choice questions were employed to assess knowledge acquisition and retention, with participants completing the questions immediately before and after the simulation and following a 12-week interval. User experience questionnaires were completed after the simulation, utilizing both Likert scale and open-ended questions. Statistical analysis comprised a Student’s Both interventions achieved statistically significant levels of knowledge acquisition and retention. However, VR simulation achieved higher levels of acquisition (2.11; 95% CI = 0.89, 3.32, The findings indicated that both interventions are effective and acceptable educational tools. However, learning does not appear to be uniform across different virtual simulators, with participants achieving higher levels of learning following immersive VR simulation. Moreover, participants reacted significantly more positively to VR simulation, though potential applications were identified for both interventions. This study highlights the importance of an evidence-based approach to the implementation of novel simulation technologies. The findings contribute to an underexplored area of the literature and offer a step towards enabling medical educators to make an informed decision regarding the application of virtual simulation in their context.

The informatization of higher vocational education is the future development trend, and it is also encouraged and promoted by the Ministry of Education. This article focuses on the road and bridge major, combined with the author’s experience in introducing virtual simulation and three-dimensional (3D) animation technology into relevant course teaching in recent years, discusses the application of virtual simulation and 3D animation technology in higher vocational education and promotes classroom revolution, to obtain better teaching effect.

Virtual simulations for neonatal education

Virtual simulation (VS) education involves the use of virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality and screen-based platforms, collectively referred to as extended reality, to provide education and assessment. This novel simulation modality supports experiential learning and increases access to practice opportunities, supplementing manikin-based simulation. VS has been used successfully for neonatal resuscitation training in high and low resource settings. Virtual simulators can be used to objectively assess learner performance in neonatal resuscitation knowledge and skills. When implementing VS for neonatal resuscitation training, key considerations include matching learning objectives with suitable technology, pre-session preparation, supporting learners, and debriefing. Additional research is needed to evaluate the impact of VS applications on clinical practice and patient outcomes.

Application of virtual simulation in clinical skills and operation courses.

This study investigated the effectiveness and prospect of applying virtual simulation operation (VSO) as a novel teaching tool in clinical skill and operation courses. A comparative test and survey study on the teaching effect of VSO was conducted with the clinical skill and operation course as the test course. The test group students received offline courses combined with online VSO practice. In contrast, the control group students received offline courses combined with instructional video review. The two groups were assessed using the Chinese medical school clinical medicine professional level test and a questionnaire survey. The test group students scored significantly higher than the control group in the skills test (score difference: 3.43, 95% CI: 2.05-4.80) (p < 0.001). Additionally, a significant increase in the percentage of high-and intermediate-score ranges and a decrease in the percentage of low-score ranges was observed (p < 0.001). According to the questionnaire survey, 80.56% of the students were willing to continue using virtual simulation in their subsequent clinical skill and operation learning. Further, 85.19% of the students believed that the VSO is superior because it is unrestricted by time and space and can be performed anywhere and anytime compared to traditional operation training. VSO teaching can improve skills and examination performance. An entirely online operation that does not need special equipment can break through the spatiotemporal limitations of traditional skills courses. VSO teaching also suits the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation. Virtual simulation, a new teaching tool, has good application prospects.

Enhancement of Indonesian High School Student Conceptual Mastery on VSEPR Topic Using Virtual Simulation of Molecule Shapes: A Case Study of Quasi-Experimental Evidence

The Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion (VSEPR) is an essential topic for high school student’s fundamental understanding of 3D shapes of chemical compounds. Due to the spatial aspect of the topic, the students were forced to imagine the geometry of the molecule by predicting the free or bonded electron pair repulsion. Suitable learning media to accommodate those features should be precisely selected to help students properly understand the geometry of the molecule based on the VSEPR topic. This study compared the significant difference in the application of two media of animation video and interactive simulation toward the control and experimental groups, respectively, to enhance conceptual mastery of the VSEPR topic. This study was a statistical quasi-experiment study with two classes of control (animation video) and experimental (interactive simulation) groups. The results of the significant difference test of the groups showed that the distribution of the experimental and control groups was not normal (significantly different) and normal (not significantly different), respectively. Analysis results using Mann-Whitney for the non-parametric free two samples comparative test with a 95% confidence level showed that the application of virtual simulation on the experimental group impacted more in improving the conceptual mastery of the VSEPR topic. Furthermore, there was an identified significant improvement in sub-concepts of the VSEPR topic in binding pair, molecular shape, and electron repulsion. These findings could support the teachers in designing lesson plans for students to master the VSEPR topic.

Evaluation of the Application Effect of Virtual Simulation Technology in Rural Garden Landscape Design

In order to improve the effect of rural garden landscape design, this paper combines virtual simulation technology to design rural garden landscape and evaluates its design effect. Moreover, this paper proposes an optical modulation system for the application of virtual simulation in rural garden landscape design. In addition, before the target is modulated, this paper converts the two-dimensional image on the detector target surface into a one-dimensional stretched modulation image so that the beam emitted by each object point is stretched and flattened on the detector target surface. Finally, this paper explores the influence of lens spacing and field of view on the modulation image of the target surface and the characteristics of projected intensity attenuation after modulation and designs a modulation model that optimizes attenuation. The research results show that the garden landscape design based on virtual reality technology proposed in this paper has a good effect and is of great significance to the effect of rural garden landscape design.

Ageing Design of Urban Park Landscape Based on Computer Virtual Simulation Technology.

Greenery are the parks in the urban areas and it becomes progressively most significant as cities grow more crowded. In the end, urban parks contribute to the population's healthiness and welfare by providing opportunities intended for physical and social activity, leisure, and relaxation. In order to construct “Digital Land,” computer and system software and hardware were used. Computer simulations are used to examine the value of a city garden's landscape design. Digital models and multimedia performances are being built using computer-aided design (CAD), this underlines the need for digitizing data for landscape design. A region's landscapes can only be accurately assessed if sufficient information is available on the elements that influence the people's awareness of landscape quality, as well as the kind, method, and effective rate of each of them. We use an LVQANN (artificial neural network) to forecast the landscape aesthetic assessment of urban parks and priorities the model's significant factors in this research. User viewpoint and artificial neural network modelling were utilized in conjunction to assess the aesthetic quality of the urban park's environment. This was done for two reasons. The design of urban parks decision support system is known as MATLAB software's multilayer perceptions model, which gives the ability to anticipate landscape visual significance in innovative parks. In this study, the ANN LVQ model is used to execute an ageing design of an urban park landscape based on a computer virtual simulation application. An example land is selected as input and area linked to sunny spot, top view, and so on is fixed. The ANN tool box is used to develop this application in MATLAB 2018b software. The following approach is used to create the ideal urban park landscape model. An accuracy of 89.23 percent, a sensitivity of 87.34 percent, and a recall of 78.93 percent were achieved, outperforming the approach and competing with the current model.

A New Model of Multiple Intelligence for Teaching English Informatics in the IoT Scenario.

This paper presents an in-depth study on the new mode of intelligent multidistance teaching of English with the help of virtual scenes of the Internet of Things. The virtual simulation technology is integrated into the traditional IoT teaching, and the professional education of IoT application technology is tapped; from the analysis of the current situation of IoT skills teaching and the feasibility of carrying out virtual simulation teaching, the “four-driven” design principle is proposed, and the teaching design is combined with the virtual simulation technology teaching, and the case design of the skill-based virtual simulation technology teaching of experience, demonstration, interaction, and assessment in the virtual environment is given. This paper presents the case design of virtual simulation teaching in a virtual environment with experience, demonstration, interaction, and assessment, and the multidimensional effect evaluation of IoT skills teaching and researches the application of virtual simulation to IoT skills teaching through the above four aspects. In this paper, a framework for distributed collaborative computing is built using an asynchronous message queue MQ, which enables multiple nodes to serve a task through task splitting. The DeepCluster module can effectively cluster the time series by deep representation learning and obtain the typical variation of time series patterns. In the task offloading module of the framework, a task offloading decision algorithm based on a value-constrained multi 0–1 backpacking model is designed to minimize task processing latency with an optimal offloading solution. The system test results show that the proposed distributed computing framework and offloading decision algorithm can significantly reduce the processing latency of large tasks.

Research on the application of collaborative learning in the practice teaching of garment 3D virtual fitting

With the integration of information science into the fashion field, both industry and university expect more informatics technology to be utilized in the fashion-related course and teaching of practical exercises. Among this informatics technology, virtual simulation, as an important experiment tool, has become very popular support for fashion students since it is possible to validate design ideas very efficiently and fast. However, because virtual simulation is quite technical, and it is very difficult to gain all the essential skills about the operation of the virtual simulation software within a short time, in the process of virtual simulation exercises, students largely rely on the guidance of teachers, which leads to the negative impact on students’ learning motivation. To optimize the application of virtual simulation in the fashion-related course and teaching of practical exercises, this paper proposes a teaching method based on collaborative learning for fashion virtual simulation exercise teaching. 3D virtual fitting exercises realized by virtual simulation were adopted as the research object to verify its effectiveness. Two groups of students were involved in the experiments. One group was taught traditionally while another group was taught by the proposed collaborative learning. Through a set of learning and teaching process evaluation, experiment results demonstrated that collaborative learning will be beneficial to improving students’ learning interest, efficiency, quality and facilitate the comprehensive capacity of autonomous learning, communication and cooperation, reduce the individual distinction and enhance self-confidence. This paper provides support for the future application of collaborative learning in other fashion related virtual simulation courses and exercises.

Learning effects of virtual versus high-fidelity simulations in nursing students: a crossover comparison

BackgroundSimulation is an alternative or complementary method for students who cannot obtain sufficient direct care experience, as they allow students to experience various clinical situations. Mixed learning is becoming increasingly common as a way to provide students with opportunities to experience real-life clinical scenarios. This study compared the learning effects of a virtual simulation and a high-fidelity simulation in a different order of presentation, with a focus on training for premature rupture of membranes in the field maternity nursing. Through this comparison, this study aimed to obtain evidence to support decision-making regarding the most effective way to utilize mixed simulation strategies.MethodsA quasi-experimental, crossover-design study was performed with two randomly allocated groups of 26 junior nursing students each. The virtual simulation used the vSim® for nursing, and the high-fidelity simulation used a scenario developed by the research team. The learning effects were measured in terms of the problem-solving process, clinical reasoning, reflective thinking, satisfaction with the practicum, and self-confidence. The data collected with a structured questionnaire were analyzed using the Mann–Whitney test.ResultsThe virtual simulation-first, high-fidelity simulation-second order led to significantly higher scores for reflective thinking (z = 3.53, p < .001) and self-confidence (z = 2.47, p = .013) than the other order.ConclusionsThe initial application of virtual simulation seemed to improve students’ thought processes, and then high-fidelity simulation seemed to allow them to perform actual practice better. Further trials of mixed learning methods are necessary to maximize learning effects in nursing education.Trial registrationKCT0005767 at 2021–01-12 registered.

Virtual systems aim to provide a virtual environment and intelligent interaction for building measurements. In the face of complex scene tasks, measurement process simulation and analysis can be completed in advance, so as to assist the actual construction. For the requirements in the virtual simulation teaching of surveying and mapping, the virtual measurement area and its corresponding surveying and mapping response methods are required. The paper presents 3-dimensional visual measurement area that makes the mapping and surveying works. In our experiment, we use the teacher platform that is a contemporary educational application based on cloud computing technology. It is a 3D digital curriculum possibility that integrates an interactive reading experience, multimedia learning materials, and learning aids. Based on the simulator process, we show an application of virtual simulation is a complex micro individual with prominent intelligent interaction characteristics in construction simulation scenarios, which has great research significance in both theory and practice. Taking this simulator prototype as an example, the paper comprehensively applies virtual simulation to carry out research on building key technologies. The paper presents the virtual simulation in teaching can improve students learning enthusiasm and learning efficiency in many ways such as teaching and learning.

158 The Introduction of Virtual Simulation into a Pre-Registration Nursing Course During the COVID-19 Pandemic

The COVID-19 Pandemic changed the way teaching and learning could be delivered at Sheffield Hallam University; the use of virtual simulation was explored to enhance the student experience and prepare students for placement.The aim of the study was to evaluate the application of virtual simulation for pre-registration nursing students.Oxford Medical Simulation (OMS) is an immersive, interactive, virtual healthcare simulation platform that allows participants to engage in a wide range of clinical scenarios. The environment, patient and other team members are fully interactive, with conversation and physiology adapting to students’ actions and treatment. The educational focus is on decision-making, clinical reasoning and critical thinking to improve patient care.A programme was developed to allow students to take part in lecturer-led sessions where OMS was used to practise the assessment and management of an unwell patient. Virtual scenarios lasting 15–20 minutes were managed by the lecturer, with students offering their contributions to determine the steps they wanted to take to manage the patient. Screen sharing of the virtual simulation via Zoom allowed students to take part in the scenarios from home. Learning outcomes predominantly focussed on A to E assessment, encouraging students who had never encountered a ‘real’ patient before in a clinical setting to begin to develop a structured approach. Evaluation of introduction of OMS to Nursing Course. This evaluation describes the benefits realized between the launch of OMS in November 2020 and 1 January 2021. The data presented include qualitative and quantitative data collated and analysed from student online survey responses. Data from 188 purposively sampled student participants were collated and analysed. The qualitative data demonstrated improvements in the student experience, under the following themes: (a) preparing students for placement, helping to apply knowledge to practice and improve decision-making; (b) developing confidence, providing a safe learning space – able to make mistakes without patients coming to harm.
