The synergistic effects of organic composts and microelements co-application in enhancing potato productivity in saline soils

Soil salinity is a major threat hindering the optimum growth, yield, and nutritional value of potato. The application of organic composts and micronutrients can effectively ameliorate the salinity-deleterious effects on potato growth and productivity. Herein, the combined effect of banana and soybean composts (BCo and SCo) application alongside foliar supplementation of boron (B), selenium (Se), cobalt (Co), and titanium (Ti) were investigated for improving growth, physiology, and agronomical attributes of potato plants grown in saline alluvial soil. Salinity stress significantly reduced biomass accumulation, chlorophyll content, NPK concentrations, yield attributes, and tuber quality, while inducing malondialdehyde and antioxidant enzymes. Co-application of either BCo or SCo with trace elements markedly alleviated salinity-adverse effects on potato growth and productivity. These promotive effects were also associated with a significant reduction in malondialdehyde content and activities of peroxidase and superoxide dismutase enzymes. The co-application of BCo and B/Se was the most effective among other treatments. Principle component analysis and heatmap also highlighted the efficacy of the co-application of organic composts and micronutrients in improving the salinity tolerance of potato plants. In essence, the co-application of BCo with B and Se can be adopted as a promising strategy for enhancing the productivity of potato crops in salt-affected soils.

Presence of foodborne pathogens and survival of generic Escherichia coli in an organic integrated crop-livestock system

IntroductionIntegrated crop-livestock systems (ICLS) use animals to graze crop residues or cover crops before planting fresh produce and provide ecosystem services to support organic vegetable production. However, there is a risk of foodborne pathogen transfer to fresh produce because grazing may introduce enteric foodborne pathogens into the soil via animal feces, which may subsequently be transferred to the produce.MethodsTo examine the effect of cover crop use and the risk of cover crop grazing on the contamination of soil and produce by foodborne pathogens in ICLS, a three-year (2019–2021) experimental study was conducted in organically managed plots, which were assigned three different treatments (fallow without cover crop or grazing, cover crop without grazing, or cover crop with grazing by sheep) in a maize/tomato rotation. During the three years of the experiment, a total of 184 pre- and post-graze fecal samples and 96 samples of tomatoes were collected to test for foodborne pathogens (Escherichia coli O157, non-O157 Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC), and Listeria (L.) monocytogenes). Soil samples were collected monthly until 126–171 days after grazing (824 in total) to examine the presence of foodborne pathogens, and generic E. coli (MPN/g) was quantified to compare its persistence among the three treatments.Results and DiscussionWe did not detect any foodborne pathogens from harvested tomatoes in 2020 and 2021. One non-O157 STEC positive soil sample (0.1%, 1/824) was detected in the fallow treatment, and one L. monocytogenes-positive (1.1%, 1/92) was detected from the post-graze fecal samples. When assessing proportions of generic E. coli positive and counts of generic E. coli in the soil samples using mixed effect zero-inflated negative binomial models, soil samples collected in the graze cover crop treatment plot showed significant increases in the counts of generic E. coli until 61–82 days post grazing, but no difference was observed after 96–123 days, compared to the baseline of the fallow treatment. Findings from generic E. coli counts support the use of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Organic Program (NOP) 90- or 120-day interval rule between applying raw manure and harvesting in organic farming into ICLS. Additionally, we confirmed that commercial organic compost application before cover crop seeding in the winter had no significant effect on the proportions and counts of generic E. coli in the soil of the following growing seasons. This longitudinal field trial confirmed that the effect of sheep grazing on foodborne pathogen contamination in ICLS is minimal but further studies comparing the genetic associations between fecal and soil samples would be necessary to distinguish the source of foodborne pathogen contamination.

Long-term surface composts application enhances saline-alkali soil carbon sequestration and increases bacterial community stability and complexity

Organic composts could remediate saline-alkali soils on agricultural land by amending soil micro-environment which is one of the main strategies for resourceful treatment and recycling of livestock manure. However, it was still unknown how long-term surface application of organic composts affects the microhabitat and bacterial community characteristics and assembly processes on the profile. We examined the features of the soil properties, bacterial community, and assembly models after 7-years composts application. Physicochemical indicators, enzyme activities, and bacterial diversity of the saline-alkali farmland were all enhanced by the surface composts application, particularly in the 0–20 cm. The network analysis showed that the surface application of composts significantly enhanced the robustness and topological characteristics of the bacterial community and that bacteria from Acidobacteriota were the keystone of the saline-alkali soils improvement. Composts also greatly increased the ecological niche of the bacterial community, while stochastic processes (mainly dispersal limitation) significantly shaped the bacterial community compared to the control. Structural equation modeling indicated that composts application promoted bacterial community succession, which in turn promoted elevated total organic carbon and improved saline-alkali soils properties. Overall, the study linked the ecological characteristics of soil microhabitats and bacterial communities during the restoration of saline-alkali soils by long-term surface application of composts, providing the management and remediation of saline-alkali agricultural soil with a theoretical foundation and technological support.

Cumulative and residual effects of compost in different crop rotations under sandy soil conditions

Cropping sequences has been shown to increase crop yields and improve land utilization in many cases, through building up organic matter in poor soils which can be enhanced and improved crop production, as well as better quality. The objective of the current work was to determine the effect of application of organic compost at the rate of 10 m3 fd-1 under dissimilar crop rotation. So, field trials were conducted in sandy soil with four field crops in two different crop rotations in 4 successive winter and summer seasons. The treatments were: no compost (as control), compost applied annually (cumulative) or two treatments applied in alternate seasons (residual). The results indicated that crop yields from the seasonal application of compost were generally significantly greater than those resulting from applications made in alternate seasons in the two rotations. Significant differences were also observed between the two alternate seasonal applications of organic compost compared with the residual effect of compost applied in the previous season. The nutrient contents of wheat were small, being below the levels normally recommended for optimum production and trace element concentrations were adequate, except for copper which was low. A similar magnitude was reported for berseem except for zinc which achieved adequacy levels under cumulative compost applications. The present data highlight the major cumulative and residual agronomic value of compost in arable crop production on reclaimed lands for different crop rotations under such impoverished soils. It could be concluded from the existing study that selecting a proper cropping sequence along with managing organic fertilizer programs can produce higher yield, maintain soil health and improve crop production without jeopardizing soil native nutrients and soil nutrients balance.

Response of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) to combined application of organic compost along with plant growth promoting Aspergillus fungi

Bio-organic fertilizers can improve soil health and maintain microbial activity. The application of Aspergillus spp. can degrade organic matter, promote plant growth, and improve soil health by accelerating soil nutrients and biological activity. Previously, Aspergillus spp. has shown potential in phosphate solubilization and siderophore production. Still, a study gap remains, and focus has been placed on clarifying the impact of Aspergillus sp. AS2022 on soil microbial biomass and soil nutrient acceleration. For this purpose, a pot experiment was established with four different treatments: cow compost (CC), cow compost + AS2022 (CA), AS2022 (AS) strain only and control-only soil (CK). The amount of cow compost used was 180 mg N kg-1. Results revealed that inoculation of AS2022 with cow compost stimulated nitrogen mineralization and enhanced available nitrogen and accelerated the soil enzyme activities, which proposed that it could contribute to wheat crop production through the initial and later phases of plant growth. Although a single application of AS2022 enhances plant growth compared to the control, it might be the release of secondary metabolites. However, our short-term findings showed that the combined application of beneficial fungal strain AS2022 along cow compost was suitable culture for wheat crop production and improvement of soil quality through organic matter degradation and accelerating soil nutrients.

Dolomite and organic compost application for preventing acid mine drainage formation in a mesocosm system

Acid mine drainage (AMD) is one of most serious environmental problems facing mining industries. It results from oxidation of sulfide minerals contained in mining wastes, such as rock disposals in mine sites. This study was to investigate AMD formation from waste rocks containing potentially-acid forming (PAF) materials treated with dolomite and compost in a mesocosm system. The system comprised a plastic drum of 150-cm height and 50-cm diameter filled with 15-cm sand at the botom layer, over-laid by 50-cm mixture of PAF+10% of either dolomite or compost, and 35-cm top-soil layer on the top. The drum surface of the sand layer was equipped with a valve to drain leached water into a collecting container. The control was a similar constructed mesocosm without addition of either ameliorant. The drums were installed into the ground of the mined land so that their surfaces were as high as the surrounding soil surface and left under field condition. The leachate samples were taken two-weekly in the early two months and monthly until the day 487. The system demonstrated that both dolomite and compost significantly increased pH from around 3 to pH>6 and reduced dissolved Al and Fe concentrations. However, the dissolved Mn concentration was still high (>20 mg L−1) in all treatments even at the pH reached >6. .

INTRODUCTION: The use of organic compost to increase organic matter has been a great ally of the rural producer, since it is a practice of easy access, financially viable and ecologically sustainable. Thus, understanding the influence of organic composts on the incidence of nematodes in the soil, consequently, can help reduce the damage caused by these organisms. OBJECTIVE: Influence of organic compost fertilization on nematode population in soil cultivated with coffee trees. METHODS: A randomized block design was used in the experiment, with five treatments (doses of organic compost, 0, 2.5, 5, 7.5 and 10 t ha-1), divided into four blocks, totaling twenty experimental units. The soils had already been corrected with limestone application at doses of 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 t ha-1. The dose of organic compost application was inversely proportional to the dose of lime application. RESULTS: The results showed a significant increase in calcium, potassium, base saturation and base sum levels. CONCLUSION: The organic matter content does not interfere in the nematode population.

Long-term application of organic compost is the primary contributor to microplastic pollution of soils in a wheat–maize rotation

Microplastics (MPs) are posing new threats to soil ecosystems. Organic fertilizers are considered as an emerging contributor to MPs accumulation in agricultural soils. However, few studies have focused on the MPs fate in soils under long-term organic fertilizer application. Based on an 11-year field test with wheat-maize cropping rotation, this study investigated the characteristics of MPs in pig manure and cow manure composts, and examined the impact of long-term compost application on soil MPs accumulation, surface morphology, and distribution. The MPs contents in pig manure and cow manure composts were 3547 and 4520 items kg−1, respectively. Microplastics abundances in soils under long-term use of these two composts were 144 to 287 and 140 to 316 items kg−1, respectively, which increased significantly with increasing compost application amount and was substantially higher than that in soils without compost. Accumulated soil MPs sourced from long-term compost application were 1.73 × 108 to 7.22 × 108 items ha−1, accounting for 43.0 %–75.9 % of the total, and the contribution value doubled as the compost application rate doubled. The proportion of MPs <1 mm in composts (31.0 %) was lower when compared with that in compost-amended soils (43.8 %), and size and abundance reduced with increasing soil depth. Microplastics shapes and polymer types in composts and compost-amended soils were similar and mostly included fragments of polyethylene and polypropylene and fibers of polyethylene terephthalate. Microplastics in compost-amended soils showed complicated weathered surface morphologies, and soil mineral colloids were attached. These results demonstrate that compost-derived MPs in soils can be gradually weathered and degraded into smaller particles under long-term compost application. These findings provide key insights into the pollution level of soil MPs with organic fertilizer application and serve as a scientific basis for developing MPs mitigation measures in agricultural soils.

Doses of sulfur at topdressing and organic compost supply at planting in the production, quality and content of macronutrients in lettuce seeds

The purpose of this study was to evaluate doses of sulfur applied at topdressing, with and without organic compost supply at planting, in the production, physiological quality and content of macronutrients in lettuce seeds. Ten treatments were evaluated in a 5x2 factorial scheme (five sulfur doses at topdressing x with and without application of organic compost at planting). The experimental design was a randomized block design, with four replicates. The sulfur doses applied at topdressing fertilization were 50, 100, 150 and 200 kg ha-1 of S, in addition to the control treatment (dose zero). Regarding the treatments with organic compost, the dose of 70 t ha-1 of compost (wet basis) was supplied at planting. The following characteristics were evaluated: seed production (mass and number of seeds per plant), seed quality (mass of one thousand seeds, first count of the standard germination test, germination percentage, and germination speed index) and content of macronutrients and mineral accumulation. The organic compost supply at planting increased seed production by 43% compared to the treatment without the application of organic compost, while the doses of sulfur did not affect the production of lettuce seeds. The supply of organic compost increased the accumulation of a great part of the macronutrients, except for the accumulation of calcium. The lettuce seeds quality was not affected by both the main treatments, the sulfur doses at topdressing and the organic compost supply at planting. The descending order of nutrients accumulated in the lettuce seeds was nitrogen&gt; potassium&gt; phosphorus&gt; magnesium&gt; calcium&gt; sulfur.

Microplastics pollution in soil increases dramatically with long-term application of organic composts in a wheat–maize rotation

The extensive application of organic fertilizers for agricultural use has been considered as a main source of microplastics (MPs) in soils. However, how long-term organic fertilizer applications affect MPs accumulation in soils is poorly understood. Therefore, MPs were characterized in chicken manure (CM), sludge (SC), and domestic waste (DW) composts applied as organic fertilizers, and effects of long-term compost applications on soil MPs accumulation and vertical distribution were explored in a 13-year wheat–maize cropping rotation field experiment. Microplastics concentrations in CM, SC, and DW composts were 14,720 ± 2,468, 8600 ± 1,428, and 11,640 ± 3565 items kg−1, respectively, and after 13 years of addition, MPs concentrations in soils were 2733 ± 160, 2289 ± 270, and 2462 ± 247 items kg−1, respectively. Microplastics concentrations were significantly higher in soils with composts than in those without. Accumulated MPs in soils derived from long-term compost applications ranged from 3.63 × 109 to 4.99 × 109 items ha−1, which were amounts 3 to 4 times higher than those input by composts, indicating MPs derived from composts can be gradually decomposed into smaller pieces after incorporation into soils under long-term application. The percentage of MPs >1 mm in composts (55.4%) was higher than that in soils with composts (40.7%), and abundance and size decreased with increased soil depth. Shapes and polymer composition were similar between composts and soils with composts. Most MPs were different colored fibers and fragments of polypropylene and polyethylene. To conclude, long-term application of organic composts increases MPs pollution risk in agricultural soils, which needs to be evaluated further.

Biological test of compost made of rabbit faeces and the addition of banana peels on the vegetative growth of Morus alba and Arachis pintoi

The purpose of this research was to determine vegetative growth performance of Morus alba and Arachis pintoi with different percentages of compost mixture (rabbit feces and kepok banana (Musa paradisiaca Linn) peels) and soil as media. The materials used was 72 Morus alba stacks, rabbit faeces, kepok banana peels, and Azotobacter culture as decomposer. This research was conducted by Completely Randomized Design with 4 treatments and 6 replications. The treatments were T0 (100% soil), T1 (20% of compost and 80% of soil), T2 (40% of compost and 60% of soil), and T3 (60% of compost and 40% of soil). The data was analysed using analysis of variance, followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) if the results are significantly different. The treatment gave higher leaves number, roots weight, and roots length (P&lt;0.05) in Morus alba. Same also on plant length, branches number and wet weight (P&lt;0.05) of Arachis pintoi. The conclusion of this research is that the application of organic compost based on rabbit manure and banana peel with Azotobacter microbial culture decomposer can improve the growth performance of Morus alba and Arachis pintoi. The best level was T1 with 20% of compost and 80% of soil.

Content and Accumulation of Macronutrients in Radish Seeds in Response to Sulfur and Organic Compost

Sulfur (S) is usually the second most accumulated nutrient in seeds of Cruciferae plant species such as the radish. Tropical soils have low S availability creating a challenge to manage plant nutrition and balanced plant development to produce high-quality seeds. This study evaluated the influence of S doses and organic compost fertilization on the content and accumulation of macronutrients in radish seeds. Eight treatments were studied in subdivided plots, where the presence (50 t ha-1) or absence of organic compost was placed in the main plot, and the S doses (0, 60, 120, 180 kg ha-1 of S) were placed in the subplots. A randomized block design with six replications was used. Seed dry weight, N, P, K, Ca, Mg, and S concentration (g kg-1 of dry matter), and the accumulation of nutrients in seeds (g plant-1) were evaluated. There was no significant effect of S doses, or organic compost, on the contents of macronutrients in radish seeds. When organic compost was not applied, great doses of S generated great dry weight and accumulation of macronutrients in the radish seeds. However, the application of organic compost increased the dry weight and the accumulation of all macronutrients in radish seeds in low S doses (up to 66 kg ha-1). Also, the presence of organic compost increased the dry weight and the concentration of macronutrients in radish seeds. The decreasing order of macronutrient content and accumulation by the radish seeds was: N &gt; S &gt; K &gt; P &gt; Ca &gt; Mg.

The effect of organic compost and soil texture on the survival and infectivity of entomopathogenic nematode species

To improve the efficacy of entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) as biocontrol agents in the field, knowledge about the kinds of impact, which the physical nature of the agricultural soil environment may have on nematode survival, persistence, and host location is important. The study aimed to investigate the effects which the addition of organic soil amendments would have on the duration of infectivity and survivorship of infective juveniles (IJs) belonging to Heterorhabditis bacteriophora in soils undergoing progressive moisture loss. The soil amendments involved mixing commercially available organic compost such as mulch, organic compost, professional potting mix, organic lawn dressing with two soil textural classes, namely loamy soil, and coarse river sand. Using Petri dish-based assays, the mulch soil amendment resulted in the highest Galleria mellonella larval mortality rate across different organic compost application concentrations (mass: mass basis). The type of compost used based on its feedstock composition, the concentration of nutrients, and organic matter mixed with a specific type of soil texture had a significant effect on the tolerance of EPNs to different dehydration periods. Virulence and efficacy decreased over 7 days of progressive dehydration. The use of organic compost did not have any detrimental effect on EPNs. The knowledge obtained could be applied to increase the effectiveness of entomopathogenic nematodes as biocontrol agents.

Organic fertilization to increase the productivity of the lima beans (Phaseolus lunatus L.)

The present work had as objective to evaluate the yield of two varieties of fava in function of application of organic compost and dairy waste. The experiment was carried out at the Experimental Farm belonging to the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (UFRPE). The experiment was carried out in a randomized block design in a factorial scheme [(2x3) + 4], with two varieties of Lima bean, three forms of organic fertilization plus four additional controls, in three repetitions. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and treatment means, compared by the Tukey test (P &lt;0.05). Dunnett's test was also used for comparisons involving additional witnesses and other treatments. The software used for statistical analysis was SAEG 9.1 and SAS 9.0. Dairy waste was the fertilizer that most contributed to the increase in productivity, making it suitable for use as fertilizer. The Branquinha variety is indicated for production, because it responded better to the types of fertilizers used.

Status and Changes in Chemical Properties of Upland Soil in Gangwon Province between 2001 and 2017

In order to obtain useful information for environment-friendly management of upland soils, the chemical characteristics of 170 upland fields in Gangwon province have been monitored every 4 years since 2001. In 2017, the pH, electrical conductivity (EC), organic matter (OM), and available phosphate (Avail. P2O5) of the soil samples were 6.4, 0.89 dS m-1, 32 g kg-1, and 742 mg kg-1, respectively. The values of exchangeable (Exch.) potassium (K), calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg) were 1.18, 7.6, and 2.0 cmolc kg-1, respectively. In terms of the long-term change, the contents of EC, OM, and Exch. cations in upland soils showed increasing tendency. However, significant changes in the contents of pH and Avail. P2O5 were not observed since 2013. The ratio of optimal range of pH and OM in upland fields reduced from 55% in 2001 to 36% in 2017 and from 33% to 27%, respectively. The ratio of excessive range of Exch. cations have increased. Therefore, it is necessary to apply the lime and fertilizers based on the soil test in order to properly manage the soil fertility of the upland soils. Meanwhile, average contents of Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn, and As were 0.23, 21.0, 13.5, 11.0, 82.6, and 4.8 mg kg-1, respectively. The results from the study imply that environment-friendly soil managements including the cultivation of green manure crop and application of organic composts are necessary to improve the soil chemical properties of upland fields. Effect of organic compost and inorganic nitrogen fertigation on spinach growth, phytochemical accumulation and antioxidant activity

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the addition of organic compost in combination with the inorganic nitrogen fertigation on growth, phytochemical accumulation, and antioxidant activity of spinach (Spinacia oleracea L. cv. Manatee). Soil blocked spinach seedlings (six seedlings per block), three blocks per pot (316 plants m−2) were transplanted after 18 days after emergence into to 12 L pots. The treatments were: unfertilized soil, organic compost, organic compost +75 kg of N ha−1, applied as ammonium sulfate; and organic compost +75 kg N ha-1, applied as ammonium nitrate. The addition of organic compost to unfertilized soil increased the fresh yield. The application of inorganic N from the two sources in relation to organic compost treatment increased spinach fresh yield from 2.3 to 4.81 kg m−2 and shoot dry weight from 0.60 to 1,31 g plant−1. Levels of carotenoids also increased with inorganic N addition, producing higher values in plants grown with organic compost + ammonium nitrate (31.14 mg/100 g fresh weight). However, the addition of N led to a decrease in leaf-blade total phenols from 75 to 56 mg gallic acid equivalents/100mg fresh weight. The addition of inorganic N led to a dramatic decrease in leaf-blade ferric reducing antioxidant activity. This effect was higher with ammonium sulfate application. The application of organic compost and inorganic nitrogen had no influence on the petiole's phytochemical accumulation and antioxidant activity.

Chemical soil and leaf properties in yellow passion fruit cultivation with organic fertilization

The yellow passion fruit presents a high nutritional demand, and successive cultivations in the same area lead the soil to nutritional exhaustion, creating the need for restitution through fertilizers. In the context of organic managements, alternatives must be sought, which, besides improving soil fertility, can increase the contents of soil organic matter. Therefore, this work aimed to evaluate the effect of organic basal fertilization in passion fruit cultivation on the chemical properties of the soil and nutrient contents of the plant. Two experiments were performed in two rural properties, with soils presenting sandy-loam and clay-loam texture. The experimental design was in randomized blocks (RBD), with 5 treatments and 4 blocks. The treatments consisted of the application of organic compost in different planting hole diameters: 0.4 m; 0.8 m; 1.2 m; 1.6 m, and 2.0 m, and their respective volumes of organic compost: 0.0007 m³; 0.03 m³; 0.06 m³, 0.10 m³; 0.16 m³. The chemical characteristics of the soil and the foliar content of nutrients were evaluated. Soil texture interferes with the effects of organic fertilization. Regardless of the texture, fertilization increases the contents of organic matter and P in the soil. The successive organic cultivation in a sandy-loam soil increases the content of P and provides higher foliar contents of N, P, Ca, Mg, S, B, Cu, Fe, Zn, and Na.

Soil chemical attributes in coffee growing with different agronomic techniques

The objective was to evaluate the effects on soil chemical attributes in a coffee growing area, according to different agronomic techniques used and their associations. The experiment was conducted in the field, in an experimental area at the Department of Agriculture - DAG, in Lavras - MG, from January 2016 to October 2018. Coffee was planted in January 2016, with Mundo Novo IAC 379-19 coffee seedlings, with a spacing of 3.6 m between rows and 0.75 m between plants in the planting row. The factors under study were arranged in a 3x2x5 factorial scheme, making a total of 30 treatments. In the plots, three soil managements were randomized (soil cover with polyethylene film, soil cover with brachiaria grass and conventional management of spontaneous vegetation). In the subplots, two types of fertilizers used in the fertilization of coffee trees were tested (conventional and increased-efficiency fertilizer). In the sub-subplots, four soil conditioners were tested (coffee husk, phosphogypsum, water retention polymer, organic compost), and the control without conditioner. Aimed to evaluate soil chemical attributes in coffee growing with different agronomic techniques through the evaluation of: soil pH, phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), aluminum saturation (m) and base saturation (V%), by soil analysis carried out in October 2018 and leaf analysis in December 2018. It is noteworthy that the chemical attributes of the leaf were used only for principal component analysis through multivariate analysis. The use of fertilization (with conventional fertilizers or those with increased efficiency), combined with the application of organic compost or coffee husk, provide increased soil pH, as well as the use of ecological management of brachiaria grass. The use of organic compost as a soil conditioner increases phosphorus availability in the soil. Coffee husk, as a soil conditioner, is an efficient potassium source for the coffee crop. The use of organic compost and phosphogypsum increases the calcium and magnesium contents in the soil. The use of organic compost and coffee husk was efficient in increasing the base saturation (V%) grown with coffee. The use of organic compost, coffee husk and phosphogypsum reduced aluminum saturation in the soil. Treatments associated with the use of organic compost improve calcium, phosphorus and magnesium levels, increase pH and base saturation, besides decreasing aluminum saturation.
