The purpose of this service is to help convey information related to the introduction of the basics of presentations and their media to provide them with basic public speaking experience by making and carrying out simple interactive presentations that will be developed and used at the next level and even up to the world of work. One of the uses of technology in this digital era is the use of digital applications to assist presentation activities. One of the applications commonly used in today's circles is the Microsoft Office PowerPoint application. This application can be accessed via computers based on the Windows operating system and Apple Mac OS. In this service, we will introduce this application as an illustration of using the application to help with presentation activities. However, the level of confidence of elementary school students in speaking in public is low. Even though this skill is a mandatory stage that must be passed and will be useful for the future. From these problems, community service activities are carried out by providing basic knowledge of introduction to presentations and the basics of public speaking skills to increase students' confidence to speak in public. The implementation method used in this activity is (1) providing basic material in good and correct presentations, (2) introducing commonly used media, (3) providing opportunities and assistance in simple presentation practices. The result of this activity is an increase in students' basic knowledge and skills in presentations, so that students become more confident to be able to appear in public along with the possibility to improve their abilities to be better than before.

Metrics for RNA Secondary Structure Comparison.

RNA secondary structure comparison is one of the important analyses for elucidating individual functions of RNAs since it is widely accepted that their functions and structures are strongly correlated. However, although the RNA secondary structures with pseudoknot play important roles in vivo, it is difficult to deal with such structures in silico due to their structural complexity, which is a major obstacle to the analysis of RNA functions.Here, we introduce an algorithm and a metric for comparing pseudoknotted RNA secondary structures based on topological centroid identification and tree edit distance and describe the usage protocol of a software enabling us to run the comparison. This software is publicly available and works on both Microsoft Windows and Apple macOS.

Cybersecurity: Identifying the Vulnerability Intensity Function (<i>VIF</i>) and Vulnerability Index Indicator (<i>VII</i>) of a Computer Operating System

The objective of the present study is to define two important aspects of the computer operating system concerning the number of its vulnerabilities behavior. We identify the Vulnerability Intensity Function (VIF), and the Vulnerability Index Indicator (VII) of a computer operating network. Both of these functions, VIF and VII are entities of the stochastic process that we have identified, which characterizes the probabilistic behavior of the number of vulnerabilities of a computer operating network. The VIF identifies the rate at which the number of vulnerabilities changes with respect to time. The VII is an important index indicator that conveys the following information about the number of vulnerabilities of Desktop Operating Systems: the numbers are increasing, decreasing, or remaining the same at a particular time of interest. This decision type of index indicator is crucial in every strategic planning and decision-making. The proposed VIF and VII illustrate their importance by using real data for Microsoft Windows Operating Systems 10, 8, 7, and Apple MacOS. The results of the actual data attest to the importance of VIF and VII in the cybersecurity problem we are currently facing.

Replicating Anatomical Teaching Specimens Using 3D Modeling Embedded Within a Multimodal e-Learning Course: Pre-Post Study Exploring the Impact on Medical Education During COVID-19.

BackgroundThe COVID-19 pandemic has had significant effects on anatomy education. During the pandemic, students have had no access to cadavers, which has been the principal method of learning anatomy. We created and tested a customized congenital heart disease e-learning course for medical students that contained interactive 3D models of anonymized pediatric congenital heart defects.ObjectiveThe aim of this study is to assess whether a multimodal e-learning course contributed to learning outcomes in a cohort of first-year undergraduate medical students studying congenital heart diseases. The secondary aim is to assess student attitudes and experiences associated with multimodal e-learning.MethodsThe pre-post study design involved 290 first-year undergraduate medical students. Recruitment was conducted by course instructors. Data were collected before and after using the course. The primary outcome was knowledge acquisition (test scores). The secondary outcomes included attitudes and experiences, time to complete the modules, and browser metadata.ResultsA total of 141 students were included in the final analysis. Students’ knowledge significantly improved by an average of 44.6% (63/141) when using the course (SD 1.7%; Z=−10.287; P<.001). Most students (108/122, 88.3%) were highly motivated to learn with the course, and most (114/122, 93.5%) reported positive experiences with the course. There was a strong correlation between attitudes and experiences, which was statistically significant (rs=0.687; P<.001; n=122). No relationships were found between the change in test scores and attitudes (P=.70) or experiences (P=.47). Students most frequently completed the e-learning course with Chrome (109/141, 77.3%) and on Apple macOS (86/141, 61%) or Windows 10 (52/141, 36.9%). Most students (117/141, 83%) had devices with high-definition screens. Most students (83/141, 58.9%) completed the course in <3 hours.ConclusionsMultimodal e-learning could be a viable solution in improving learning outcomes and experiences for undergraduate medical students who do not have access to cadavers. Future research should focus on validating long-term learning outcomes.

Modern macOS userland runtime analysis

The continued rise of Apple's macOS in both the home and workplace has led to a significant rise in the capabilities of both malware and attacker toolkits that target the operating system and its users. Over the last several years there have been numerous documented instances of macOS users being targeted by governments, intelligence agencies, and criminal groups, and the end results of these attacks were the victims having highly sophisticated malware installed on their systems. Unfortunately, the rise of these threats has not been met with an equal research and development effort by the memory forensics community. This has led to a gap in automated analysis in memory forensic frameworks and has left inexperienced investigators with little chance of detecting the malware's presence. Even for experienced investigators, detection was still difficult in many circumstances and require significant manual investigation for a chance at success. This paper documents our research effort to close this gap through the development of novel memory forensic capabilities aimed at detecting advanced, real-world malware that targets macOS systems. This research was driven through analysis of numerous malware samples that were used as part of espionage and criminal attack campaigns, and the end result was three new Volatility plugins that automate the detection of such malware. By leveraging these plugins, investigators of all skill levels can detect macOS userland malware in an automated, scalable, and flexible manner.

The origins of Objective-C at PPI/Stepstone and its evolution at NeXT

The roots of Objective-C began at ITT in the early 1980s in a research group led by Tom Love investigating improving programmer productivity by an order of magnitude, a concern motivated by the perceived "software crisis" articulated in the late 1960s. In 1981, Brad Cox, a member of this group, began to investigate Smalltalk and object-oriented programming for this purpose, but needed a language compatible with the Unix and C environments used by ITT. That year, Cox quickly wrote up the Object-Oriented Pre-Compiler (OOPC) that would translate a Smalltalk-like syntax into C. Love felt there was a market for object-oriented solutions that could coexist with legacy languages and platforms, and after a brief stint at Schlumberger-Doll, co-founded with Cox Productivity Products International (PPI), later renamed as Stepstone, to pursue this. At PPI, Cox developed OOPC into Objective-C. Cox saw Objective-C as a crucial link in his larger vision of creating a market for "pre-fabricated" software components ("software-ICs"), which could be bought off the shelf and which, Cox believed, would unleash a "software industrial revolution." Steve Naroff joined Stepstone in 1986 as Steve Jobs' NeXT Computer became an important customer for Objective-C, as it was being used in its NeXTSTEP operating system. Naroff became the primary Stepstone developer addressing NeXT's issues with Objective-C, solving a key fragility problem preventing NeXT from deploying forwards-compatible object libraries. Impressed with NeXT, Naroff left Stepstone for NeXT in 1988, and once there, added Objective-C support to Richard Stallman's GNU GCC compiler, which NeXT was using as its C compiler, removing the need to use Stepstone's ObjC to C translator. Over the next several years, Naroff and others would add significant new features to Objective-C, such as "categories," "protocols," and the ability to mix in C++ code. When Stepstone folded in 1994, all rights to Objective-C were acquired by NeXT. This eventually transferred to Apple when NeXT was acquired by Apple in 1997. Objective-C became the basis for Apple's Mac OS X and then iOS platforms, and Naroff and others at Apple added additional features to the language in the late 2000s as the iPhone App Store greatly expanded Objective-C's user base.

Refining the Theory-to-Practice Path for FADGI Still Imaging

The Digital Production Lab in John C. Hodges Library at the University of Tennessee, like many university imaging studios, has long relied on a seasonal and temporary labor force drawn from our student body. Improving human-computer interaction in our production workflows should reduce training time and errors while increasing throughput and worker confidence. In this paper, we present our on-going efforts adapting Elgato's Stream Deck XL hardware to control a computer running Apple's macOS operating system and Phase One's Capture One Pro software using Python and AppleScript code. The paper outlines our custom code linking these parts together, describes how this relatively inexpensive input device streamlines our digitization process, and includes ideas for future application.

Оverview of the standard library for creating a GUI in Python

This article discusses the standard library for creating graphical user interfaces in Python. The relevance of graphical user interface creation tools, the value of the graphical user interface, the latest research and publications related to the tkinter library, the history of the library, the main widgets and geometry managers were analyzed. All the functions responsible for placing the elements of the graphical interface in the window are considered. There are three functions for placing widgets in the window — pack (), grid () and place (). Conclusions are drawn about the disadvantages and advantages of this library. The standard Python GUI library is closely related to the long-known and widely described Tk library, but the most relevant source of information will always be the library documentation on the Python programming language documentation site. The purpose of this article is to review the standard library for creating graphical interfaces in Python. Tkinter is a multi-platform graphical interface library based on Tk tools (widespread in the world of GNU/Linux and other UNIX-like systems, ported to Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac OS), distributed with open source, written by Wall Lumholt and Guido van Rossum. Included in the standard Python library. Tk has long been an integral part of Python. It provides a robust and platform-independent set of tools for windows that is available to Python programmers. However, in terms of usage, Tkinter is relatively easy compared to other libraries. This is a great choice for creating GUI applications in Python, especially if the modern look is not a priority for the program, and a big role is played by functionality and cross-platform speed.

BpWrapper: BioPerl-based sequence and tree utilities for rapid prototyping of bioinformatics pipelines

BackgroundAutomated bioinformatics workflows are more robust, easier to maintain, and results more reproducible when built with command-line utilities than with custom-coded scripts. Command-line utilities further benefit by relieving bioinformatics developers to learn the use of, or to interact directly with, biological software libraries. There is however a lack of command-line utilities that leverage popular Open Source biological software toolkits such as BioPerl (http://bioperl.org) to make many of the well-designed, robust, and routinely used biological classes available for a wider base of end users.ResultsDesigned as standard utilities for UNIX-family operating systems, BpWrapper makes functionality of some of the most popular BioPerl modules readily accessible on the command line to novice as well as to experienced bioinformatics practitioners. The initial release of BpWrapper includes four utilities with concise command-line user interfaces, bioseq, bioaln, biotree, and biopop, specialized for manipulation of molecular sequences, sequence alignments, phylogenetic trees, and DNA polymorphisms, respectively. Over a hundred methods are currently available as command-line options and new methods are easily incorporated. Performance of BpWrapper utilities lags that of precompiled utilities while equivalent to that of other utilities based on BioPerl. BpWrapper has been tested on BioPerl Release 1.6, Perl versions 5.10.1 to 5.25.10, and operating systems including Apple macOS, Microsoft Windows, and GNU/Linux. Source code is available on GitHub at https://github.com/bioperl/p5-bpwrapper.ConclusionsBpWrapper improves on existing sequence utilities by following the design principles of Unix text utilities such including a concise user interface, extensive command-line options, and standard input/output for serialized operations. Further, dozens of novel methods for manipulation of sequences, alignments, and phylogenetic trees, unavailable in existing utilities (e.g., EMBOSS, Newick Utilities, and FAST), are provided. Bioinformaticians should find BpWrapper useful for rapid prototyping of workflows on the command-line without creating custom scripts for comparative genomics and other bioinformatics applications.

WavePropaGator: interactive framework for X-ray free-electron laser optics design and simulations.

This article describes the WavePropaGator (WPG) package, a new interactive software framework for coherent and partially coherent X-ray wavefront propagation simulations. The package has been developed at European XFEL for users at the existing and emerging free-electron laser (FEL) facilities, as well as at the third-generation synchrotron sources and future diffraction-limited storage rings. The WPG addresses the needs of beamline scientists and user groups to facilitate the design, optimization and improvement of X-ray optics to meet their experimental requirements. The package uses the Synchrotron Radiation Workshop (SRW) C/C++ library and its Python binding for numerical wavefront propagation simulations. The framework runs reliably under Linux, Microsoft Windows 7 and Apple Mac OS X and is distributed under an open-source license. The available tools allow for varying source parameters and optics layouts and visualizing the results interactively. The wavefront history structure can be used for tracking changes in every particular wavefront during propagation. The batch propagation mode enables processing of multiple wavefronts in workflow mode. The paper presents a general description of the package and gives some recent application examples, including modeling of full X-ray FEL beamlines and start-to-end simulation of experiments.

Bad to the Bone: Crafting Electronic Systems with BeagleBone Black, Second Edition

BeagleBone Black is a low-cost, open hardware computer uniquely suited to interact with sensors and actuators directly and over the Web. Introduced in April 2013 by BeagleBoard.org, a community of developers first established in early 2008, BeagleBone Black is used frequently to build vision-enabled robots, home automation systems, artistic lighting systems, and countless other do-it-yourself and professional projects. BeagleBone variants include the original BeagleBone and the newer BeagleBone Black, both hosting a powerful 32-bit, super-scalar ARM Cortex A8 processor capable of running numerous mobile and desktop-capable operating systems, typically variants of Linux including Debian, Android, and Ubuntu. Yet, BeagleBone is small enough to fit in a small mint tin box. The may be used in a wide variety of projects from middle school science fair projects to senior design projects to first prototypes of very complex systems. Novice users may access the power of the Bone through the user-friendly BoneScript software, experienced through a Web browser in most major operating systems, including Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac OS X, or the Linux operating systems. Seasoned users may take full advantage of the Bone's power using the underlying Linux-based operating system, a host of feature extension boards (Capes) and a wide variety of Linux community open source libraries. Atomsk: A tool for manipulating and converting atomic data files

We present a libre, Open Source command-line program named Atomsk, that aims at creating and manipulating atomic systems for the purposes of ab initio calculations, classical atomistic calculations, and visualization, in the areas of computational physics and chemistry. The program can run on GNU/Linux, Apple Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows platforms. Many file formats are supported, allowing for easy conversion of atomic configuration files. The command-line options allow to construct supercells, insert point defects (vacancies, interstitials), line defects (dislocations, cracks), plane defects (stacking faults), as well as other transformations. Several options can be applied consecutively, allowing for a comprehensive workflow from a unit cell to the final atomic system. Some modes allow to construct complex structures, or to perform specific analysis of atomic systems. VizBin - an application for reference-independent visualization and human-augmented binning of metagenomic data.

BackgroundMetagenomics is limited in its ability to link distinct microbial populations to genetic potential due to a current lack of representative isolate genome sequences. Reference-independent approaches, which exploit for example inherent genomic signatures for the clustering of metagenomic fragments (binning), offer the prospect to resolve and reconstruct population-level genomic complements without the need for prior knowledge.ResultsWe present VizBin, a Java™-based application which offers efficient and intuitive reference-independent visualization of metagenomic datasets from single samples for subsequent human-in-the-loop inspection and binning. The method is based on nonlinear dimension reduction of genomic signatures and exploits the superior pattern recognition capabilities of the human eye-brain system for cluster identification and delineation. We demonstrate the general applicability of VizBin for the analysis of metagenomic sequence data by presenting results from two cellulolytic microbial communities and one human-borne microbial consortium. The superior performance of our application compared to other analogous metagenomic visualization and binning methods is also presented.ConclusionsVizBin can be applied de novo for the visualization and subsequent binning of metagenomic datasets from single samples, and it can be used for the post hoc inspection and refinement of automatically generated bins. Due to its computational efficiency, it can be run on common desktop machines and enables the analysis of complex metagenomic datasets in a matter of minutes. HeatmapGenerator: high performance RNAseq and microarray visualization software suite to examine differential gene expression levels using an R and C++ hybrid computational pipeline.

BackgroundThe graphical visualization of gene expression data using heatmaps has become an integral component of modern-day medical research. Heatmaps are used extensively to plot quantitative differences in gene expression levels, such as those measured with RNAseq and microarray experiments, to provide qualitative large-scale views of the transcriptonomic landscape. Creating high-quality heatmaps is a computationally intensive task, often requiring considerable programming experience, particularly for customizing features to a specific dataset at hand.MethodsSoftware to create publication-quality heatmaps is developed with the R programming language, C++ programming language, and OpenGL application programming interface (API) to create industry-grade high performance graphics.ResultsWe create a graphical user interface (GUI) software package called HeatmapGenerator for Windows OS and Mac OS X as an intuitive, user-friendly alternative to researchers with minimal prior coding experience to allow them to create publication-quality heatmaps using R graphics without sacrificing their desired level of customization. The simplicity of HeatmapGenerator is that it only requires the user to upload a preformatted input file and download the publicly available R software language, among a few other operating system-specific requirements. Advanced features such as color, text labels, scaling, legend construction, and even database storage can be easily customized with no prior programming knowledge.ConclusionWe provide an intuitive and user-friendly software package, HeatmapGenerator, to create high-quality, customizable heatmaps generated using the high-resolution color graphics capabilities of R. The software is available for Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac OS X. An open-source automated platform for three-dimensional visualization of subdural electrodes using CT-MRI coregistration.

Visualizing implanted subdural electrodes in three-dimensional (3D) space can greatly aid in planning, executing, and validating resection in epilepsy surgery. Coregistration software is available, but cost, complexity, insufficient accuracy, or validation limit adoption. We present a fully automated open-source application, based on a novel method using postimplant computerized tomography (CT) and postimplant magnetic resonance (MR) images, for accurately visualizing intracranial electrodes in 3D space. CT-MR rigid brain coregistration, MR nonrigid registration, and prior-based segmentation were carried out on seven patients. Postimplant CT, postimplant MR, and an external labeled atlas were then aligned in the same space. The coregistration algorithm was validated by manually marking identical anatomic landmarks on the postimplant CT and postimplant MR images. Following coregistration, distances between the center of the landmark masks on the postimplant MR and the coregistered CT images were calculated for all subjects. Algorithms were implemented in open-source software and translated into a "drag and drop" desktop application for Apple Mac OS X. Despite postoperative brain deformation, the method was able to automatically align intrasubject multimodal images and segment cortical subregions, so that all electrodes could be visualized on the parcellated brain. Manual marking of anatomic landmarks validated the coregistration algorithm with a mean misalignment distance of 2.87mm (standard deviation 0.58mm)between the landmarks. Software was easily used by operators without prior image processing experience. We demonstrate an easy to use, novel platform for accurately visualizing subdural electrodes in 3D space on a parcellated brain. We rigorously validated this method using quantitative measures. The method is unique because it involves no preprocessing, is fully automated, and freely available worldwide. A desktop application, as well as the source code, are both available for download on the International Epilepsy Electrophysiology Portal (https://www.ieeg.org) for use and interactive refinement.

Research of Finite Element Analysis Software Performance Relation to the type of Operating System

When modeling electronic devices of complex geometry and their systems using finite element analysis software packages, several problems related to the modeling duration emerge. With the increase of the variety of modeling software packages dedicated both to “Microsoft Windows” and “Apple Mac OS X” operating systems, it is important to determine the dependency of modeling performance in respect of operating system which is used to control the modeling environment. The modeling performance investigation was accomplished using COMSOL software. The algorithm used to analyse the finite element mesh generation and differential equation system solution duration was created and it was implemented during the computational experiment during which the modeling performance was analysed. SequenceMatrix: concatenation software for the fast assembly of multi-gene datasets with character set and codon information.

We present SequenceMatrix, software that is designed to facilitate the assembly and analysis of multi-gene datasets. Genes are concatenated by dragging and dropping FASTA, NEXUS, or TNT files with aligned sequences into the program window. A multi-gene dataset is concatenated and displayed in a spreadsheet; each sequence is represented by a cell that provides information on sequence length, number of indels, the number of ambiguous bases ("Ns"), and the availability of codon information. Alternatively, GenBank numbers for the sequences can be displayed and exported. Matrices with hundreds of genes and taxa can be concatenated within minutes and exported in TNT, NEXUS, or PHYLIP formats, preserving both character set and codon information for TNT and NEXUS files. SequenceMatrix also creates taxon sets listing taxa with a minimum number of characters or gene fragments, which helps assess preliminary datasets. Entire taxa, whole gene fragments, or individual sequences for a particular gene and species can be excluded from export. Data matrices can be re-split into their component genes and the gene fragments can be exported as individual gene files. SequenceMatrix also includes two tools that help to identify sequences that may have been compromised through laboratory contamination or data management error. One tool lists identical or near-identical sequences within genes, while the other compares the pairwise distance pattern of one gene against the pattern for all remaining genes combined. Mac OS X 운영체제상의 사용자 흔적정보 수집방안 연구

Mac OS X는 애플에서 제작한 컴퓨터 운영체제이다. 1984년도부터 MAC OS의 마지막 버전인 9를 계승하여 지금의 Mac OS X 10.6(Snow Leopard)에 이르고 있다. 전 세계 운영체제 점유율에서 애플의 Mac OS X운영체제는 10% 정도를 차지하고 있으나, 현재 디지털 포렌식 조사에 활용되고 있는 포렌식 도구들은 Mac OS X에 대한 포렌식 분석을 제대로 수행할 수 없다. Mac OS X에 대한 포렌식 조사를 하는데 있어서, 운영체제 상에서 사용자의 행위와 흔적과 관련된 정보는 중요한 디지털 증거가 될 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 Mac OS X 운영체제 상의 사용자 흔적 정보 수집에 관한 방안을 제시한다. Mac OS X is the Computer Operating System that develop in Apple Inc. Mac OS X is the successor to Mac OS 9 Version which had been Apple's primary operating system since 1984. Recently, Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) has been manufactured and is distributed to user. Apple's Mac OS X Operating System is occupying about 10% in the world Operating System market share. But, Forensic tools that is utilized on digital forensic investigation can not forensic analysis about Mac OS X properly. To do forensic investigation about Mac OS X, information connected with user's action and trace can become important digital evidence in Operating System. This paper presents way about user trace data acquisition methodology in Mac OS X.
