Green Synthesis and Characterization of Biologically Synthesized and Antibiotic-Conjugated Silver Nanoparticles followed by Post-Synthesis Assessment for Antibacterial and Antioxidant Applications.

The paper presents the antibacterial and antioxidant activities of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) when conjugated with two antibiotics levofloxacin and ciprofloxacin as well as biologically synthesized nanoparticles from Moringa oleifera and Curcuma longa. Leaves of Moringa and powder of Curcuma were used in the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles. Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used for the characterization of the synthesized silver nanoparticles. Comparison of levofloxacin and ciprofloxacin and their conjugated AgNPs was also studied for antibacterial and antioxidant activity. The synthesis of Moringa-AgNPs, turmeric-AgNPs, levofloxacin-AgNPs, and ciprofloxacin-AgNPs was confirmed by UV spectroscopy. An absorption peak value of 400-450 nm was observed, and light to dark brown color indicated the synthesis of AgNPs. Moringa-AgNPs revealed high antioxidant activity (80.3 ± 3.14) among all of the synthesized AgNPs. Lev-AgNPs displayed the highest zone of inhibition for Staphylococcus aureus, while in Escherichia coli, Cip-AgNPs showed high antibacterial activity. Furthermore, AgNPs synthesized using green methods exhibit high and efficient antimicrobial activities against two food-borne pathogens. Biologically synthesized nanoparticles exhibited antibacterial activity against E. coli (13.73 ± 0.46 with Tur-AgNPs and 13.53 ± 0.32 with Mor-AgNPs) and S. aureus (14.16 ± 0.24 with Tur-AgNPs and 13.36 ± 0.77 with Mor-AgNPs) by using a well diffusion method with significant shrinkage and damage of the bacterial cell wall, whereas antibiotic-conjugated nanoparticles showed high antibacterial activity compared to biologically synthesized nanoparticles with 14.4 ± 0.37 for Cip-AgNPs and 13.93 ± 0.2 for Lev-AgNPs for E. coli and 13.3 ± 0.43 for Cip-AgNPs and 14.33 ± 0.12 for Lev-AgNPs for S. aureus. The enhanced efficiency of conjugated silver nanoparticles is attributed to their increased surface area compared to larger particles. Conjugation of different functional groups contributes to improved reactivity, creating active sites for catalytic reactions. Additionally, the precise control over the size and shape of green-synthesized nanoparticles further augments their catalytic and antibiotic activities.

Biosynthesis and assessment of antibacterial and antioxidant activities of silver nanoparticles utilizing Cassia occidentalis L. seed

This research explores the eco-friendly synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using Cassia occidentalis L. seed extract. Various analytical techniques, including UV–visible spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), were employed for comprehensive characterization. The UV–visible spectra revealed a distinct peak at 425 nm, while the seed extract exhibited peaks at 220 and 248 nm, indicating the presence of polyphenols and phytochemicals. High-resolution TEM unveiled spherical and oval-shaped AgNPs with diameters ranging from 6.44 to 28.50 nm. The SEM exhibiting a spherical shape and a polydisperse nature, thus providing insights into the morphology of the AgNPs. EDX analysis confirmed the presence of silver atoms at 10.01% in the sample. XRD results unequivocally confirm the crystalline nature of the AgNPs suspension, thereby providing valuable insights into their structural characteristics and purity. The antioxidant properties of AgNPs, C. occidentalis seed extract, and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) were assessed, revealing IC50 values of 345, 500, and 434 μg/mL, respectively. Antibacterial evaluation against Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Escherichia coli demonstrated heightened sensitivity of bacteria to AgNPs compared to AgNO3. Standard antibiotics, tetracycline, and ciprofloxacin, acting as positive controls, exhibited substantial antibacterial efficacy. The green-synthesized AgNPs displayed potent antibacterial activity, suggesting their potential as a viable alternative to conventional antibiotics for combating pathogenic bacterial infections. Furthermore, potential biomedical applications of AgNPs were thoroughly discussed.

Antioxidant activity of silver nanoparticles synthesized from crud methanolic extract of rumex nervosus

In the present investigation, an attempt was made to prepare nanoparticles by using a medicinal plant Rumex nervosus, because the biological synthesized nanoparticles have been widely used in the field of medicine now. Silver sulfate (Ag2SO4) was used for the synthesis of the silver nanoparticles using the root extract of Rumex nervosus. The synthesized silver nanoparticles from silver sulfate solution through the root extract were characterized using UV-vis spectrophotometry, SEM, and FT-IR methods. The SEM analysis showed the average size of 75 nm with spherical shape and it confirmed the formation of nanoparticles in the sample. Antioxidant activity of the crude extract was evaluated by employing the DPPH radical scavenging assay. The result showed moderate antioxidant activity at various concentration as compared to standard ascorbic acid solution. The synthesized nanoparticles can be used for various applications due to its eco-friendless, nontoxic and compatibility for pharmaceutical and other applications.

Investigation of Biological Activities Catalytic Activity Antioxidant Activity of Silver Nanoparticles Synthesized By Using Mulberry (Morus) Leaf Extract

Few decades ago, almost no one understood the importance of remark “There is plenty of room at the bottom” expressed by Robert Feynman until its reality appeared in the form of technology called nanotechnology, which has left its footprints in almost every field of science and technology. Nano- technology is based on two approaches i.e. Top-Down Approach and Bottom-up Approach. These two approaches include different physical, chemical and biological methods for the production of materials at Nano scale. Biological method, especially use of plant parts (green method) is strongly recommended nowadays due its unique features i.e. simplicity, biocompatibility, cost-effectiveness and eco-friendliness. In the present study, we have synthesized silver nanoparticles through green method by using Mulberry leaves. The green synthesized silver nanoparticles were characterized by techniques such as UV-visible spectrophotometry, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Dynamic light scattering, Fourier transformer-infrared, and X-ray Diffraction. The nanoparticles were studied for their different activities, i.e. antimicrobial activity, antidiabetic activity, antioxidant activity, catalytic activity and cytotoxic activity.

Formulation of Silver Nanoparticles from Grewia Asiatica Leaf Extract and their Biomedical Applications

Nanotechnology is a well-advanced area and several types of nanoparticles have been synthesized. Different types of nanoparticles have been synthesized so far using different techniques. It is most practical to produce nanoparticles from plant extracts for use in medicine and other applications. In this study, silver nanoparticles were synthesized by Grewia asiatica leaf extract. Synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by different techniques including Ultraviolet-visible (UV) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Dynamic light scattering (DLS), and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Results showed a characteristic peak of silver nanoparticles in UV-region at 425nm, while DLS analysis revealed the z-average size of synthesized particles i.e., 461.6nm and -28.4mV zeta potential. SEM analysis revealed the amorphous surface morphology. The antibacterial and antioxidant activity of silver nanoparticles were also evaluated. Silver nanoparticles showed significant antibacterial activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. A maximum zone of inhibition of 16mm diameter was observed against Bacillus subtilis and Klebsiella pneumonia. While results of antioxidant activity showed a 43.27μg/ml IC50 value. In conclusion, Grewia asiatica leaf extract is a good source to synthesize silver nanoparticles. Also, green synthesized silver nanoparticles could act as potential antibacterial and antioxidant agents.

Antioxidant Activity of Silver Nanoparticles Prepared from Capsicum Annuum (Bell Pepper) Extract

Vegetables have reported to contain high content of wide verity of important phytochemicals that can be used in medical approach. Bell pepper are one of the most important vegetables that can be used as spice in foods, as well as it has a diversity of the phytochemical compounds. Carotenoids, vitamin A, vitamin C, polyphenolic compounds and other metabolites were found in bell peppers of all colors. Red pepper is characterized by its high content of β-carotene. Our goal was to prepare an aqueous red pepper extract solution and use it to synthesize Ag NPs, then examine the antioxidant activity of the extract and the nanoparticle solutions. Ag NPs were prepared at room temperature by utilizing the aqueous red pepper extract solution as well as characterized by using UV-Vis spectrophotometry and field emission scanning electron microscope. The characterization result has shown the presence of Ag NPs in particle average of approximately 58 nm. The antioxidant activity was determined by using a DPPH assay, where ascorbic acid has shown IC50 of 23.71 μg/mL which was lower than Ag NPs (IC50 = 43.72 μg/mL). The best antioxidant behavior was obtained from the red pepper extract solution (IC50 = 17.26 μg/mL). This may attributed to the high content of phytochemicals in the extract solution. Importantly, the use of red pepper extract solution in preparing AgNPs have shown to improve their antioxidant activity, which is considered as good additive to the medical features of Ag NPs.

Catalytic and antioxidant activity of silver nanoparticles fabricated by Neolamarckia cadamba bark extract

Plant parts have unfathomable potential in the synthesis of nanoparticles. The current study was designed for the photosynthesis of silver nanoparticles (NC-AgNPs) using bark extract of N. cadamba. Different analytical methods were used to characterize the synthesized nanoparticles. HR-TEM analysis identifies the formation of multi-shaped NC-AgNPs like spherical, quasi-spherical, rod-shaped, trigonal, square, pentagonal, and hexagonal with a size range of 18-91 nm. The crystallize size of NC-AgNPs was found to be 27.6 nm. The catalytic effectiveness of NC-AgNPs in degrading Crystal violet (CV) dye is remarkable. Important parameters such as the effect of catalyst dose and pH were investigated. Dose-dependentantioxidant activity of NC-AgNPs was determined by using 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay. Low-cost synthesis and eco-friendly reagents were the salient features that made NC-AgNPs more attractive toward catalytic and antioxidant activities.

Antioxidant Efficacy of Green-Synthesized Silver Nanoparticles Promotes Wound Healing in Mice.

Developing an efficient and cost-effective wound-healing substance to treat wounds and regenerate skin is desperately needed in the current world. Antioxidant substances are gaining interest in wound healing, and green-synthesized silver nanoparticles have drawn considerable attention in biomedical applications due to their efficient, cost-effective, and non-toxic nature. The present study evaluated in vivo wound healing and antioxidant activities of silver nanoparticles from Azadirachta indica (AAgNPs) and Catharanthus roseus (CAgNPs) leaf extracts in BALB/c mice. We found rapid wound healing, higher collagen deposition, and increased DNA and protein content in AAgNPs- and CAgNPs (1% w/w)-treated wounds than in control and vehicle control wounds. Skin antioxidant enzyme activities (SOD, catalase, GPx, GR) were significantly (p < 0.05) increased after 11 days CAgNPs and AAgNPs treatment. Furthermore, the topical application of CAgNPs and AAgNPs tends to suppress lipid peroxidation in wounded skin samples. Histopathological images evidenced decreased scar width, epithelium restoration, fine collagen deposition, and fewer inflammatory cells in CAgNPs and AAgNPs applied wounds. In vitro, the free radical scavenging activity of CAgNPs and AAgNPs was demonstrated by DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging assays. Our findings suggest that silver nanoparticles prepared from C. roseus and A. indica leaf extracts increased antioxidant status and improved the wound-healing process in mice. Therefore, these silver nanoparticles could be potential natural antioxidants to treat wounds.

Study of antibacterial and antioxidant activities of silver nanoparticles synthesized from Tradescantia pallida (purpurea) leaves extract

This study defined a facile, inexpensive, and benign method to fabricate silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using Tradescantia pallidum var. purpurea aqueous leaves extract for the first time. A UV–vis spectrum showed that the evaluated extract was promising for green synthesis of the SNP, with the highest peak of absorption between 450 and 550 nm. The phytochemicals present in the plant extract acts as capping and stabilization agent were confirmed by FTIR analysis. EDX proved the presence of Ag while SEM confirmed the AgNPs with the spherical shape. TEM revealed the average particle size was 23 nm. Additionally, AgNPs exhibited significant antibacterial activity and turbidimetry analysis showed MIC and MBC was in range of 25–100 µg/mL against both Gram positive and Gram-negative bacteria in Luria Bertani broth cultures. The AgNPs exhibited potent antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria, with a ZOI of 12 ± 0.25 mm produced against BacillusB subtilis showed the largest zones of inhibition, which were greater than the positive control (cefotaxime). The MIC values were 50 µg/mL for Pseudomonas aeruginosa, 25 µg/mL for Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, and 100 µg/mL for B. subtilis, confirming their significant antibacterial action. AgNPs inhibited the DDPH free radical scavenging activity with an IC50 = 91.87 µg/mL. It is believed that these AgNPs play a crucial role in determining the therapeutic potential of T. pallida due to their biological efficacy.

Primula vulgaris'ten Sentezlenen Gümüş Nanopartiküllerin Antimikrobiyal ve Antioksidan Potansiyeli

In this study, biosynthesis and in vitro phytochemical composition, antibacterial and antioxidant activities of silver nanoparticles were investigated by using aqueous leaf, flower and root extracts of Primula vulgaris (P. vulgaris subsp. vulgaris). The synthesized silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were confirmed by color conversion and ultraviolet-visible (UV-visible) spectrophotometry. The appearance of a dark brown color and a UV absorption spectrum range at 440 nm confirmed the synthesized silver nanoparticles. The antimicrobial activity of silver nanoparticles synthesized from the leaf of P. vulgaris; S. aureus 25±1, S. epidermidis 20±1, P. aeruginosa 20±1, A. hydrophila 21±1, C. albicans 25±1, C. tropicalis 25±1, C. parapsilosis 22±1 and C. glabrata 20±1 mm zone diameter was determined. The most antimicrobial effect of P. vulgaris leaf aqueous extract; S. aureus 20±1, S. epidermidis 18±1, A.hydrophila 15±1, P. aeruginosa 12±2, C. albicans 18±1, C. glabrata 18±1, C.tropicalis15±2, and C. parapsilosis 15±2 mm zone diameter was revealed. The presence of flavonoids, terpenoids, protein, and carbohydrates was found to be higher in silver nanoparticles synthesized in the flower part of P. vulgaris, according to phytochemical screening. While saponins were detected in P. vulgaris root extracts, tannins and protein were detected in the leaf extract. The flower had the highest total phenolic extract content of the silver nanoparticle (29.08±0 mg GAE/g DW), while the leaf and root had the lowest total phenolic content of 9.06±0.5 and 8.64±3.3 mg GAE/g DW, respectively. The flower had the highest total phenolic extract content of the plant aqueous extracts (25.10±0.2 mg GAE/g DW), while the leaf and root had the lowest (8.28±0.5 and 5.20±0.0 mg GAE/g DW, respectively).The DPPH (1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazil) assay was used to assess free radical scavenging activity. The antioxidant activity of AgNPs biosynthesized using P. vulgaris flower extract was 90.6 %, while P. vulgaris flower aqueous extracts were 86.3 %. This can be concluded that silver nanoparticles synthesized using P. vulgaris flower extract are useful in the preparation of pharmacologically useful drugs.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the in vitro antioxidant activity of hydroalcoholic extract of Triphala and its ecologically friendly synthesized silver nanoparticles. In the present study, we conducted an estimation of the extract using Hydrogen peroxide radical scavenging assay and superoxide radical scavenging assay to assess the antioxidant potential. The results were compared with the effect of standard ascorbic acid. Primary phytochemical screening of the plant extract showed the presence of carbohydrates, alkaloids, glycosides, flavonoids, phenolics etc. The hydroalcoholic extract and its SNPs showed a concentration-dependent activity in both methods. In the study, it was concluded that the hydroalcoholic extract of Triphala comprises pharmacologically important phytoconstituents like phenolic compounds and flavonoids which impart the potential of the extract as well as its SNPs in the modulation of oxidative stress owing to its strong antioxidant and free radical scavenging activities.

Molluscicidal and antioxidant activities of silver nanoparticles on the multi-species of snail intermediate hosts of schistosomiasis.

BackgroundSchistosomiasis, also known as bilharzia, is the second important parasitic disease after malaria. The present study aimed to evaluate the molluscicidal effects of silver nanoparticles on Biomphalaria alexandrina, B. glabrata, Oncomelania hupensis, snail intermediate hosts of intestinal schistosomes (i.e. Schistosoma mansoni and S. japonicum), along with the changes their antioxidant enzymes.MethodsSilver (Ag) nano powder (Ag-NPs) was selected to test the molluscicidal effects on three species of freshwater snails. Exposure to Ag-NPs induced snail mortality and the LC50 and LC90 values of Ag-NPs for each snail species were calculated by probit analysis. Control snails were maintained under the same experimental conditions in dechlorinated water. Snail hemolymph was collected to measure the levels of antioxidant enzymes, such as total antioxidants capacity (TCA), glutathione (GSH), catalase (CAT) and nitric oxide (NO). In addition, the non-target organism, Daphnia magna, was exposed to a series of Ag-NPs concentration, similar to the group of experimental snails, in order to evaluate the LC50 and LC90 and compare these values to those obtained for the targeted snails.ResultsThe results indicated that Ag-NPs had a molluscicidal effect on tested snails with the variation in lethal concentration. The LC50 values of Ag-NPs for B. alexandrina snails exposed for 24, 48, 72 hrs and 7 days were 7.91, 5.69, 3.83 and 1.91 parts per million (ppm), respectively. The LC50 values for B. glabrata snails exposed for 24, 48, 72 hrs and 7 days were 16.55, 10.44, 6.91 and 4.13 ppm, respectively, while the LC50 values for O. hupensis snails exposed for 24, 48, 72 hrs and 7 days were 46.5, 29.85, 24.49 and 9.62 ppm, respectively. Moreover, there is no mortality detected on D. magna when exposed to more than double and half concentration (50 ppm) of Ag-NPs during a continuous period of 3 hrs, whereas the LC90 value for B. alexandrina snails was 18 ppm. The molluscicidal effect of the synthesized Ag-NPs seems to be linked to a potential reduction of the antioxidant activity in the snail’s hemolymph.ConclusionsSynthesized Ag-NPs have a clear molluscicidal effect against various snail intermediate hosts of intestinal schistosome parasites and could potentially serve as next generation molluscicides.

Microwave-assisted green synthesis, characterization, and antioxidant activity of silver nanoparticles using the aqueous extract of Cistus creticus

Microwave-assisted single-step phytosynthesis of silver nanoparticles were synthesized with Cistus creticus leaf extract for the first time in the present study. The synthesized nanoparticles analyzed by ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV–Vis), Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive x-ray analysis (EDX). The results reveal that the UV-visible spectrum indicates peaks at 385.5 nm confirming the biosynthesis of CcAgNPs. SEM –EDX analysis showed the formation of spherical morphology and the element composition mostly belongs to silver. The particles size were between 10 and 20 nm by TEM analysis. Antioxidant activity of extract and CcAgNPs were determined using the DPPH• scavenging, CUPRAC assay, and metal chelating activities. Silver nanoparticles synthesized from C. creticus (65.84%) showed lower activity than standard and C. creticus extracts (80.44%). Cistus creticus leaf extract showed a metal chelating effect of 27.07%, CcAgNPs % 21.21 and EDTA (1 mg/mL) used as a standard, 88.05%. According to CUPRAC antioxidant test results, CcAgNPs were found to be equivalent to 3.171 ± 0.021 Eq µg/mL Trolox and 22.789 ± 0.116 Eq µg Ascorbic acid/mL at 1 mg/ml concentration. Silver nanoparticles synthesized from the C. creticus plant will shed light on useful studies to be done in the future to reveal the antioxidant, antimicrobial and anticancer effects.

An Evaluation of Antimicrobial, Anticancer, Anti-Inflammatory and Antioxidant Activities of Silver Nanoparticles Synthesized from Leaf Extract of Madhuca longifolia Utilizing Quantitative and Qualitative Methods.

In the current decade, nanoparticles are synthesized using solvents that are environmentally friendly. A number of nanoparticles have been synthesized at room temperature using water as a solvent, such as gold (Au) and silver (Ag) nanoparticles. As part of nanotechnology, nanoparticles are synthesized through biological processes. Biological methods are the preferred method for the synthesis of inorganic nanoparticles (AgNPs) as a result of their simple and non-hazardous nature. Nanoparticles of silver are used in a variety of applications, including catalysts, spectrally selective coatings for solar absorption, optical objectives, pharmaceutical constituents, and chemical and biological sensing. Antimicrobial agents are among the top uses of silver nanoparticles. In the current study, silver nanoparticles were biologically manufactured through Madhuca longifolia, and their antibacterial activity against pathogenic microorganisms, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant activities were assessed. UV-Vis spectroscopy, XRD (X-ray diffraction), transmission electron microscopy, Zeta Potential, and FTIR were used to characterize silver nanoparticles. The current work describes a cheap and environmentally friendly method to synthesize silver nanoparticles from silver nitrate solution by using plant crude extract as a reducing agent.

Nanotechnology applications for treatment of hepatic infections via modulating Hepatic histopathological and DNA alterations

BackgroundNanoparticles are recently playing a potential role in improving drug uptake and the treatment of diseases. A variety of nanoparticles, such as selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) and Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been used as drug carriers in various ways for treatment of cancers and liver diseases. Our aim in this study is to investigate the ability of AgNPs and SeNPs to target and treat the viral and bacterial infection of liver in rats and cell lines. MethodsFor assessment of antioxidant activity of silver nanoparticles, six adult male albino rats were included in this study, liver slices were taken and assigned to 6 groups. Markers of hepatic functions, oxidative stress and inflammation in liver slices are carried out. While for assessment of antiviral activity of SeNPs, HBV-replicating human cell line HepG2 and normal human cell lines were used, hepatic and inflammatory alterations are determined through quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and comet assay techniques. ResultsThe effect of Ag-NPs on interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α) levels were reduced in different treated groups with Ag-NPs compared with the control and diseased groups. On the other hand, SeNPs revealed significant alterations in the inflammatory markers as well as DNA damage in the treated HBV- human cell line HepG2 compared to the diseased ones. ConclusionSilver nanoparticles have the ability for producing various hepatic alterations and can inhibit the proliferation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) in a dose and size dependent manner. On the other hand, SeNPs showed excellent selectivity towards viral cells in the HepG2 cell lines. Both Ag-NPs and SeNPs might be a promising drug design for treating viral and bacterial liver diseases.

Impact of temperature and pH on antioxidant activity of green silver nanoparticles fabricated from Ananas comosus peel extracts

Abstract Silver nanoparticles arose as a new weapon in the development of green synthesis of these nanoparticles using diverse natural resources such as plant leaf, microorganisms, and fruit extracts. Biosynthesis approach by using waste materials from plant is widely used as it is proven to be environmentally and cost friendly method. This study aims to identify the impact of temperature and pH on antioxidant activities of silver nanoparticles fabricated from pineapple (Ananas comosus) peel extract. Different temperature (70°C, 80°C and 90°C) and pH (7, 8 and 9) have been tested to the samples and characterized using UV-Visible Spectroscopy. Then, antioxidant activities of the AgNPs produced using different temperature and pH were determined using free radical scavenging ability on 2,2-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). The results were found at pH 9, the surface plasmon resonance peak for biosynthesized AgNPs was at 425 nm on Day 2 while other treatments took longer time to exhibit the AgNPs peak. Biosynthesized AgNPs treated at temperature 90°C showed the optimum temperature when it exhibited peak at 420 nm on Day 3. The biosynthesized of AgNPs from pineapple peel extracts exhibited potential antioxidant activity in the DPPH scavenging by highest DPPH scavenging percentage is at 84.75% for AgNPs treated at pH 9 and 80.29 % for AgNPs treated at 90°C with concentration of 1000 µg/mL. Temperature and pH gave significant impact in synthesis and increase antioxidant activity of green silver nanoparticles.

Comparison of Antioxidant Activities of Silver Nanoparticles and Methanol Extracts of Three Indigenous Nigeria Herbal Seeds

The antioxidant of seeds was carried out using extracts from methanol and Silver Nanoparticles from the spice. The SEM shows the shapes, dispersion and agglomeration of the sample, while the EDX confirms the SEM and the presence of some compounds. The FT-IR reveals the AgNPs capping and reducing the particular biomolecule from the functional group for identification. Compounds found in the FT-IR seeds of Capsicum annum are Ag L (Silver iodide), C K (Cyanogen chloride), P K (Phenol). Monodora myristica are Mo L (Molybdenum), Ag L (Silver iodide), C K (Cyanogen chloride), P K (Phenol), Mg K (Magnesium). Piper guineense are Ag L (Silver iodide), Ci K (Potassium chloride), C K (Cyanogen chloride), P K (Phenol). The seeds show that the AgNPS of CA and MM has a better antioxidant activity than the methanol of CA and MM, while the PG methanol has a better activity than the AgNPS PG. The control (Catechin and Galic acid) has a slight overall better DPPH activity than the AgNPS. It is important to note that there is a concentration dependency in CA, MM AgNPS, PG methanol respectively. Notably, at CA methanol, the conc. at 125 was higher than the conc. at 250. Hence, there is need to create a great part in using plant samples for making tabulated or capsulated drugs for treatment of diseases and using plant silver nanoparticles to develop a healthy food/drug preservative package material “smart packaging” that will enhance shelf-life.
