Results of research conducted on 34 short stories SDIT Alif Ciawi students there is Non- Anthropomorphic characters namely "Human ", whereas character anthropomorphic emerges​ in short story student that is : Grasshopper, Eagle, Squirrel, Chameleon, Fish, Deer, Mother Birds, Cats, Rats, Ants, Snakes, Male Birds, Trees Petai, Broccoli, Vegetables, Apple Trees, Hap-hap, Jin Tomang, Durian Trees, Carrots, Spinach, Worms, Kriko and Mushrooms.

Exploring Character Education in 'Bocah-Bocah Borneo': Implications for Student Character Development

Literature is an integral part of character formation efforts. This research aims to determine the contribution of the short story anthology book ‘Bocah-Bocah Borneo’ by Neneng Eliana to the character education of elementary school students. The research method used is inferential content analysis in the form of a process of describing, classifying, interpreting, and concluding the character values contained in the short story and implications for student character development based on Strengthening Ki Hajar Dewantara's Character Education. The data sources for content analysis included the short story anthology 'Bocah-Bocah Borneo', presidential regulations related to Strengthening Character Education inspired by Ki Hajar Dewantara's philosophy, and relevant articles from accredited scientific journals.". "The content analysis involved systematically procuring data from the short story anthology, reducing and categorizing the data, making inferences, and conducting a detailed analysis. The results of the data analysis show several findings. First, there are eighteen characters values contained in the short story anthology ‘Bocah-Bocah Borneo’, namely religious, brave, socially caring, environmentally caring, friendly and communicative, responsible, curious, disciplined, hard-working, polite, independent, honest, tolerant, creative, democratic, spirit of nationality, patriotism, and appreciate for achievements. Second, the implications for student character development of ‘Bocah-Bocah Borneo’ short story which originates from the five values of Strengthening Character Education from Ki Hajar Dewantara's philosophy, namely: religion, nationalism, independence, cooperation, and integrity. This research concludes that the short story contributes significantly to the character instruction values of elementary school understudies.

Magical Realism in Contemporary Indonesian Literature: An Exploration of the Value of Education in a Fantasy World

The purpose of this study is as an effort to interpret the short story Peminspin Gelap by Intan Pramataditha in the perspective of magical realism. The value of education is also present as one of the aspects studied because it can provide new knowledge for readers and is considered important to learn. The approach used is to use qualitative methods that focus on semiotics, content analysis, and hermeneutics. The source of the data was obtained from the main object of this study, namely the short story book Peminspin Gelap by Intan Paramaditha. Other data used to support this research relate to magical realism such as book references, some relevant research and electronic journals taken from the internet. Data collection is carried out by reading and recording techniques. The results of this research can be found data from the representation of magical realism in the short story Dark Spinner by Intan Paramadhita. First, magical realism data was found based on the meanings and symbols of images on the cover of the short story anthology book Female Magic, and the cover of the short story Dark Spinner pen. Then, data were obtained from the analysis of story texts based on Wendy B. Faris's theory, namely: (1) irreducible elements were found two data; (2) the phenomenal world (Phenomenal World) found two data; (3) Unsettling doubt found four data; (4) Merging realms found one data. Unearthing the Diasporic bhadramahila in Jhumpa Lahiri’s Unaccustomed Earth and Bharati Mukherjee’s Desirable Daughters

This study aims to examine the influence of the bhadramahila construct both in the Bengal colonial context and its reproduction in the imaginary of the Indian American family dynamics. The works under discussion are: Jhumpa Lahiri’s short story anthology Unaccustomed Earth (2008) and Bharati Mukherjee’s novel Desirable Daughters (2002). Both give evidence to the academic discussions on the position of the bhadralok and bhadramahila in Bengal (India) during colonial times, a rare topic in both Lahiri’s and Mukherjee’s stories. The article puts into perspective the making of the “New Woman” in Bengal in the nineteenth century, then moves to the literary section where it analyses how female characters reproduce their cultural baggage in a hybrid setting and deal with inner conflicts, hence inaugurating the figure of the diasporic bhadramahila in the context of the United States.

Spanish Women in British Literary Annuals (1823-1830)

This paper explores the representations of Spain, and particularly Spanish women, in five British literary annuals of the late Romantic period (1823-1830): Forget Me Not, The Literary Souvenir, Friendship’s Offering, The Keepsake and The Amulet. Literary annuals were illustrated anthologies of poems, short stories and travelogues which started to be published in Britain in the 1820s and were sold annually as presents for Christmas and New Year. Mostly aimed at a female audience, these annuals were imbued with a spirit of cosmopolitanism, featuring texts about countries and regions from all over the world. Spanish themes were constantly present in the selected literary annuals, where with a few notable exceptions, most female Spanish characters are countermodels of femininity that deviate from the traditional feminine values fostered by these publications and defy the idealised depictions of (British) women appearing in their texts and engravings. These representations of Spanish women, which underline the ethnic and cultural differences between Spain and Britain, are in tune with the romantic image of the country promoted by British writers at the time.

Environmental Wisdom in the Short Story Anthology Menghardik Gerimis by Sapardi Djoko Damono

There have been many environmental problems since humans have existed in this world. This is due to humans’ lack of knowledge and self-awareness regarding ethical or moral behavior towards the environment. The value of environmental wisdom also needs to be instilled in the community, because if it is not instilled, it will cause the community to have a low pro-environmental attitude and result in a lack of maintaining environmental wisdom. Therefore, it is important for literary works with ecological elements and their examination of the value of environmental wisdom to be read by the general public. This research uses a qualitative research approach with a descriptive research design, and uses a literary ecological theory related to the value of environmental wisdom as a scalpel. Based on an analysis of the short story anthology Menghardik Gerimis by Sapardi Djoko Damono, it can be seen that all aspects of environmental wisdom values are found in the short story anthology.

'Hard translation' in Stories to Enlighten the World

An illustrious figure of Ming-Qing fiction, Feng Menglong (1574-1646), compiled and edited a thought-provoking trilogy of short story anthologies towards the demise of the Ming (1368-1644) dynasty, which contributes to the thriving development of vernacular fiction. The first fascicle of the trilogy is an anthology entitled Stories Old and New (and subsequently Stories to Enlighten the World) that was published in 1620 and translated by Cyril Birch in 1958. In this research, I explore Birch’s rendering that has not attained enough academic attention. I propound that the translation abounds with literal translations and transliterations, which is consistent with the approach of ‘hard translation’ advocated by a renowned writer and translator Lu Xun, aka Zhou Shuren (1881-1936). The ‘hard translation’ strategies can be embodied by Birch’s translation of expressions pertaining to historical personages, religious and literary allusions, as well as sayings and idioms. Furthermore, Birch enriches literal translation and transliteration with illuminating notes and adopts the strategy of adaptation, so as to strike a balance between faithfulness and fluency.

The short story "Food and Drink" by 'Alaa al-Deeb from the short story anthology "المسافرالأبدي" is a mini short story that only contains 338 words. Nevertheless, this short story shows that it also contains the two main elements of literary works, namely regularity of form and beauty of meaning. Therefore, this study aims to reveal the regularity of form and the beauty of meaning of these mini short stories. The researcher used a qualitative method, and to collect data, the researcher used note-taking techniques, as well as content analysis to analyze the data. Furthermore, the researcher used an objective approach with structural theory, and to show the beauty of the meaning of this mini short story, the researcher used a pragmatic approach with semiotic theory. The results of this study show that this mini short story uses theme, story facts (characterization, plot, and setting), and story tools (point of view, ambiance) to form the regularity of the short story form. In addition, this mini short story also displays the beauty of meaning by containing 2 icon signs, 6 index signs, and 2 symbol signs.

Intrinsic Elements and Moral Values in The Anthology of Aim Short Stories by Kholifatul Fauziah

The selection of AIM's short story anthology aims to understand and know the aspects of structuralism and moral values. The research design used is descriptive qualitative. The source of the data for this study was the Anthology of the short stories Aim by Kholifatul Fauziah and DPND Class which were then chosen as the object of research because this anthology of short stories contains many elements of literary works and a clear moral message. This research was conducted in several stages, namely: (1) the planning stage, listening and reading carefully the AIM Short Anthology. (2) the implementation stage, collecting data, classifying and analyzing the structural approach in short stories. (3) the reporting stage, involving the writing and publication of the results of this research so that they can be read, known, and used by other people who need them. The results of the research show that the intrinsic structure in structural studies is in the form of themes, plot, characters and characterizations, setting, point of view, style of language, message, and moral values. This structure can be a successful builder of conveying the meaning of the story from the writer to the reader.

Metaphorical Adjectives Describing Human in Javanese

This study examines metaphorical adjectives describing humans in Javanese. The metaphorical adjective is literally used to describe nouns other than humans but figuratively used to describe humans. This study aims to describe metaphorical adjectives used to characterize humans figuratively based on their meaning type. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach. The data in this study are adjectives used to describe humans in Javanese metaphorically. The data corpus is taken from written and oral sources. The written sources are taken from the Dictionary of Baoesastra Djawa written by Poerwadarminta dan Javanese Dictionary written by the Language Center Team of Yogyakarta and a Javanese short story from the anthology of Javanese literature short story 2007 Kidung Megatruh (22 short stories) and short story of Yogyakarta Javanese in 2000-2010 (87 short stories). Data analysis techniques are inductive, with identification and classification techniques following research objectives. Based on the result, 43 adjectives are used to describe humans with metaphorical meanings. The adjectives are divided into six types: adjectives of positive character marker, negative character marker, positive mental condition marker, negative mental condition marker, positive physical condition marker, and negative physical condition marker. The use of metaphorical adjectives explaining humans in Javanese shows that the creativity of Javanese linguists is good at utilizing existing lexicons to express ideas by distorting their meaning without creating a new lexicon.

Eksistensi Tokoh Perempuan pada Antologi Cerpen Paraban Tuah Karya Elok Teja Suminar (Kajian Feminisme Eksistensialis)

This study describes the existence of female characters in the short story anthology Paraban Tuah by Elok Teja Suminar using the theory of existentialist feminism from Simone De Beauvoir, including her condition and existence. The problem under study is: how is the existence of female characters in the short story anthology Paraban Tuah by Elok Teja Suminar based on Simone De Beauvoir's existentialist feminism? The purpose of this research is to describe the form of existence of female characters in the anthology of short stories Paraban Tuah by Elok Teja Suminar based on existentialist feminism. This research approach uses a qualitative descriptive method. The research subjects were people who were informants in the study, including the researcher herself and the female Madurese character in the short story anthology Paraban Tuah. The collection technique is using library techniques, reading techniques, and note-taking techniques. The research instrument lies with the researcher himself using note-taking techniques in the form of a data corpus. The results of research on the existence of female characters in the short story anthology Paraban Tuah by Elok Teja Suminar obtained 88 data from 11 short stories, including the existence of female characters in subject-object relations, in the realm of marriage as (child, wife, and mother), the existence of female characters which involves her body as a power of perception and as an obstacle, as well as a form of transcendence of female characters, namely work and intellectuality.

Literacy Improvement Through Regional Libraries in Maros Regency

The author carries out this service activity with the aim of providing education to increase literacy to the visitors to the Maros Regency regional library. In addition, the author also contributed several anthology books with other author friends. This began when he received an assignment letter from the campus and then communicated with the management of the Maros Regency Regional Library. After being accepted, the author came to provide education in the form of brainstorming with visitors about the importance of increasing literacy. Because at that time there was still a Covid-19 pandemic, visitors were still limited, generally only students and students who were still in the online learning process. The educational process with visitors was not carried out simultaneously, but came one by one at the reading table. The author conveys material about the importance of increasing literacy, supporting and inhibiting factors for increasing literacy, solutions to overcome problems of increasing literacy. In addition, the author also prepared several short story anthology books to be shown and discussed to the visitors. After the implementation was completed, the Short Story Anthology book was handed over to the manager of the Regional Library of Maros Regency. This community service activity was carried out in May - July 2021 at the Regional Library of Maros Regency

PANDANGAN DUNIA GHASSAN KANAFANI DALAM CERPEN “ARDHU AL-BURTUQOL AL-HAZIIN”

This research aims to reveal the author's worldview, namely Ghassan Kanafani as a collective subject in his short story entitled "Ardhu al-Burtuqol al-Haziin" in an anthology of short stories with the same title using the genetic structuralism perspective of Lucian Goldmann. Goldmann's genetic structuralism emphasizes the analysis of the author's worldview as a representative of a particular social group, with his analysis departing from the structure of the literature work itself. Three research variables in genetic structuralism are the structure of literary works, worldview, and social structures. This research is qualitative-descriptive research with a dialectical method of analysis. The result of the discussion is there are many binary oppositions found in this short story “Ardhu al-Burtuqol al-Haziin”. Ghassan’s worldview in this short story is the economic downturn of the Palestinian people due to the 1948 Nakba Day and the loss of their national identity which was symbolized by an orange. This Ghassan Kanafani's worldview is the view of his group, namely the nationalist social group of workers and peasants.

Relevansi Nilai Moral dalam Antologi Cerpen Pacar Seorang Seniman Karya W. S. Rendra pada Pembelajaran Sastra

This article aims to explain the moral aspect in the short story anthology of Pacar Seorang Seniman by W. S. Rendra. This research uses short stories in the anthology of Pacar Seorang Seniman by W. S. Rendra using an analytic descriptive method with a qualitative approach. A pragmatic approach is used to deep review Rendra's 186-pages anthology which was published in its first printing, October 2016. The data collection used in this research is the reading and note-taking technique. The results of the study show that in this anthology there are moral values related to oneself, moral values among humans, humans and God, and humans and nature. Many moral values are conveyed by the author in the collection of Pacar Seorang Seniman short stories, either through the author's description or dialogue between the characters. This is applied as a means for cultivating the noble characters as stated in the 2013 Curriculum. The short story collections of Pacar Seorang Seniman has met the criteria for literary appreciation materials so that it is appropriate to be used as the appreciation materials for learning prose at the high school level, that is the analyzing values in literary works.

The essay discusses images of the future in solarpunk and post-apocalyptic fiction, focusing on their distinct approach to the narratives of progress, science, and individualism. The dystopian perspective of post-apocalyptic fiction is juxtaposed with the hopeful stance of solarpunk stories in order to outline the attempts to move beyond environmental pessimism and to imagine a liveable future. A reading of Cormac McCarthy’s The Road (2006), Erik M. Conway and Naomi Oreskes’s The Collapse of Western Civilization (2014), and Omar El Akkad’s American War (2017) provides an overview of early 21st-century dystopian motifs and visions, while the ideas and development of solarpunk fiction are discussed on the basis of three anthologies of short stories: Sunvault: Stories of Solarpunk and Ecospeculation (2017), Glass and Gardens: Solarpunk Summers (2018), and Multispecies Cities: Solarpunk Urban Futures (2021). The aim of the essay is to argue that apocalyptic and solarpunk fiction stand in a relationship of apposition to one another, representing dominant and emergent structures of feeling.

Queering the English Translation of Male Same-Sex Desire in 1990s Chinese-Language Literature

In recent years, we have come to see translation studies as intimately intertwined with queer theory. The interpenetration of the two fields has stimulated significant shifts in how we understand both the nature and the uses of queering social identities and categories. It has also illuminated the complex and nuanced ways in which desire, sexuality, and gender are inscribed in languages and translation. If the word queer is significant both for its “celebration of difference” and in its “reappropriation of the language used by the heterosexist culture,” then the meanings that queer acquires in its translation both to and from non-English linguistic and cultural codes are particularly useful for the study of how queer goes beyond universal notions, fixed identities, or default categories. Translation is “comparably indeterminate and similarly imbricated with issues of gender and sexuality, playfulness, and power.” In this article, I discuss the relationship between queer and translation, and the implications of this relationship for the queering of translation, through textual analysis of the translated, transferred, transmitted representations male same-sex desire and practices, particularly fetishism and sadomasochism, in Taiwanese queer literature from the 1990s. That decade saw an unprecedented flowering of queer literature in Taiwan and, as such, provides a fascinating case study in the historical and social development of the global circulation of queer theory across languages and cultures. I centre my discussion around two seminal texts, Ta-wei Chi’s short story anthology 膜 (The Membranes, 1996) and Chu T’ien-Wen’s novel 荒人手記 (Notes of A Desolate Man, 1994), and draw on William J. Spurlin’s (2017) rethinking of gender and sexual politics in the spaces between languages and cultures, Brian James Baer’s (2020) application of queer theory to translation studies and Douglas Robinson’s (2020) formulation of “equivalencefuck.” I argue that their insights enable an approach to the queering of translation that incorporates queer theory into the theory and practice of translation by understanding translation as essentially a queer praxis that simultaneously fucks with linguistic and cultural binaries on the one hand and with sexual and gender binaries on the other. While fucking binaries plays a vital role in critiquing what is fetishized as source-target equivalence in translation, considering translation as a queer praxis demonstrates that the conjunction of queer and translation offers “new sites of heterogeneity and difference.” Thus, I argue that bringing queer theory to translation and translation studies disrupts some of the foundational assumptions about translation. In turn, this offers new opportunities to queer how we think about sexual and gender difference, cultural dissimilitude, and linguistic diversity in both translation practice and translation studies.

The stylistic study referred to according to Tuloli in Lafamane (2020) stylistics or stylistics in general talks about the use of a distinctive or special language, which is the hallmark of a writer, literary school, or also deviations from everyday language or from normal or normal language. standard, and so on. In this study, the short story contains aspects of the provisions of stylistic studies, such as sound style, sentence style, discourse style, figurative language and imagery. Then the short story has the stages of the short story as a coherent structure, including: Abstraction, orientation, complication, evaluation, resolution and code.

The Anatomy of Peace: A Reading of How to Tell the Story of an Insurgency

This paper aims to study the traumatic impact of violence in the late twentieth century Assam, caused primarily by the unresolved conflict between popular ethno-nationalist demands of an independent, ‘Swadhin’ Assam and retaliatory steps of the Centre. The short story anthology, How to Tell the Story of an Insurgency edited by Aruni Kashyap will be considered chiefly, to understand the deep-seated, sometimes ‘belated’ occurrence of trauma on people’s lives, which often resisted representation. Cathy Caruth argues that the belated occurrence of trauma may be linked to what remains unknown/unsaid in our actions and language. Robert Eaglestone mentions that our linguistic registers may prove inadequate to represent traumatic experiences. People’s trauma in Assam was worsened by the disciplinary actions imposed to restrain revolutionary acts. Foucault described ‘discipline’ as a “type of power, a modality for its exercise”. People lived in a panopticon, gradually becoming disillusioned about the cause. Between ideology and peace, they chose the latter. Thus, reading these polyphonic stories using the theoretical discourse of trauma will help to locate the phenomenon in the social, political and cultural history of Assam, to see how people emerged out of conflict by opting for relative peace.
