Experimental Setup and Study of Solar Operated Chaff Cutter

Solar energy is a renewable energy. Earth continuously intercepts solar power of about 1.78 x 1011 MW. By using solar energy converging devices solar energy may be converted into other form of energy. Use of solar energy in agricultural field is essential now-a-days. Solar photovoltaic system converts solar energy directly into electrical energy using solar photovoltaic cell [3]. Increasing wind velocity improved the power generated by solar panel [6]. The main aim of this paper is experimental study and testing of solar operated chaff cutter. A solar operated agricultural chaff cutter uses solar panel to absorb the spectrum of solar energy is quite wide and its intensity and that energy converted into electric energy via solar PV system. Experimental model of solar operated chaff cutter is taken into consideration in this investigation. In this paper we also considered losses in solar panel, angle of solar panel with horizontal, performance of cutter.

One of the natural potentials as a source of electrical energy is solar energy. The sun is the main energy source for most of the processes that occur on the surface of the earth. Solar radiation received by the earth's surface is a fundamental input for many aspects, mainly an important parameter in the application of solar cells as electricity generation. Sun cells are devices that can convert sunlight into electrical energy. In this study the data collection of solar cell panel data is collected which includes the solar radiation data, the voltage data generated and the electric current data generated at each variation of the tilt angle 0o, 8o, and 16o. This study aims to discover the effect of changes in the slope angle of solar cell panels on the efficiency of solar power generation systems. The study method used is an experimental development method which is carried out by using the tilt angle variation of the solar panel. The angle used by taking the tilt angle of the solar panel on the negative x-axis which aims to find the maximum tilt angle value. From the test results of 50 Watt Peak (WP) solar power plant installation, it can be concluded that the highest efficiency occurs at an angle of 16o and at 09:00 with a value of 46.076 %, then the second occurs at an angle of 8o and at 09:00 with a value of 45,052 %, then the lowest efficiency occurs at a slope angle of 0o and at 09:00 with a value of 43,986 %. Optimum Tilt Angles for Manual Tracking of Photovoltaic Modules

ABSTRACTThis article reports the investigation for the average optimal tilt angle of solar panels on a monthly basis (single axis tracking) for a wide range of latitudes in the northern hemisphere to collect maximum total solar irradiation. Based on experimentally validated modeling, a new set of empirical relations has been proposed to compute the optimum tilt angle on a monthly basis for the entire year. The accuracy of equations set is evaluated by standard statistical measures. The proposed set of empirical equations is compared with an existing set of empirical equations on various cities within the latitude and has yielded significantly better results. Optimization of the Tilt Angle of Solar Panels for Malaysia

This article presents a method for optimizing the tilt angle of photovoltaic module/array installed in the five sites in Malaysia. The optimization method is based on the Liu and Jordan model for solar energy incident on a tilt surface considering monthly and seasonal tilt angles. The optimization results showed that a seasonal optimum tilt angle change is recommended for the peninsular Malaysia, while a monthly optimum tilt angle change is recommended for east Malaysia comprising the states of Sabah and Sarawak. By applying the monthly optimum tilt angle, the collected yields by the PV module/array in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bharu, Ipoh, Kuching, and Alor Setar increased by 5.03, 5.02, 5.65, 7.96, and 6.13%, respectively. On the other hand, applying the seasonal optimum tilt angle for the same regions increased the collected yields by 4.54, 4.58, 5.70, 4.11, and 5.85%, respectively.

A new type of automatic tracking system for solar photo-electricity

Automatic solar tracking can significantly improve the photoelectric conversion rate of solar cells per unit area.We propose a new type of photo-electric tracking system.This system tracks the position of sun by using the projection of lever with a circular array consisted of 16 photosensitive resistance and implements automatic tracking by adjusting the angle of solar panels intermittently.The test results show that the tracking system can improve the power generation efficiency by 33.04% compared to the system with fixed angle,and can also reduce consumption of mechanical energy by more than 50% compared with real-time tracking system.

A Solar Power Computerized Platform for Energy-Saving Management of Green Building

Among all kinds of renewable energy, solar energy is the most accessible and inexhaustible that can be applied unconditionally and has the least impact on the environment. We selected Beitou Library in the northern Taipei as the site to simulate the output energy of Photovoltaic panels (PV panels), since the building passed the Diamond Certification set by Taiwan Green Building Rating System (EEWH). The simulation was divided into two different angle settings: one set with a fixed angle for the whole year, and the other one with angles varied in certain time period. Results showed that in Taipei, when the set angle of solar panel was fixed, the output energy of Photovoltaic panels (PV panels) was the biggest when the set angle was 16 degree. In the situation of the variable angle setting, the shorter the cycle of angle variation, the lager the output energy of PV panels was.

Optimizing the Tilt Angle of Solar Panels by SQP Algorithm

In present research we propose a nonlinear solving method to obtain the optimum tilt angle for solar panels. For this purpose, solar radiation on tilted panels are estimated by applying anisotropic model in Maple and the maximum is obtained by solving parametric nonlinear equations with Sequential Quadratic Programming (SQP) algorithm. Comparing its results with prevalent calculation proved this method faster and more efficient. The used model is validated by comparing results with measured data on a 45o-tilted surface in Tehran, Iran. Results showed solar radiation on a tilted surface increases 32% by monthly adjustments, in comparison with a fixed horizontal surface.

Sine Function and Power Function Model with Photovoltaic Generation System in Simple Installation

This paper shows the result of analytical consideration of the optimality of the solar panel installation for the simple photovoltaic generation system. The power generation is efficiency when the angle of solar panel is to change angle finite times. We adopted the approximated function to figured air mass with sine function or power function in solar radiation data, and calculated the solar radiation to decide optimum angle analytically. Then we have obtained the optimal relation which means the optimal relative angle, and the solar power generation will be made efficiently by using only simple structure.

Optical performance of inclined south–north axis three-positions tracked solar panels

In this work, the optical performance of solar panels with a new sun-tracking technique was theoretically investigated based on the proposed mathematical method and monthly horizontal radiation. The mechanism of the investigated sun-tracking is that the attitude angle of solar panels is daily adjusted three times at three fixed positions: eastward, southward, and westward in the morning, noon, and afternoon, respectively, by rotating solar panels about the inclined south–north axis (ISNA-3P sun-tracking). Calculation results showed that, for ISNA-3P tracked solar panels with a yearly fixed tilt-angle of the ISNA, the maximum annual collectible radiation on ISNA-3P tracked solar panels was about 93% of that on a solar panel with 2-axis sun-tracking; whereas for those with the ISNA being yearly adjusted four times at three fixed tilt-angles, it was about 96%. Results also indicated that the attempt to further increase the annual solar gain on ISNA-3P tracked solar panels by seasonally optimizing design of the sun-tracking system for maximizing solar gain in each of four seasons was not efficient, and thus not advisable in practical applications. Optimal parametric designs of such sun-tracking system for maximizing the annual solar gain on solar panels in different cases were also presented.

A study on the installation angle of solar panels is conducted as a conceptual study on solar-RFC(regenerative fuel cell) system for stratospheric airships. The airship heads for the west in winter days and the east in summer days according to wind directions. Considering this, it is found that when the solar panel is installed with the center angle of 30 degree the energy output of solar panels is maximized on winter solstice and satisfies the required energy of summer days as well. Although with the optimized solar panel installation angle, efficiency of the regenerative power system needs be improved to 47% to provide required energy of a 170m-long airship. And the required amount of efficiency improvement decreases as the airship size increases.
