An Investigation of the Differences in Education Between China's Urban and Rural Areas from the Standpoint of Educational Equity

At present, there is a significant difference between urban and rural education in China, which is not only reflected in the quality of education but also family education, education concept, family capital, allocation and utilization of educational resources, etc. Under the influence of various factors, the current situation of rural education is not optimistic, and the difference between rural education and urban education is even increasing. In addition to effectively promoting the development of rural education, achieving a balanced development of education and narrowing the gap in regional education is also conducive to achieving educational equity and harmonious development of education in the whole society. Starting from the current situation of the urban-rural education gap in China, this paper examines the impact of the urban-rural economic, cultural and policy gap, and proposes specific measures to reduce the gap. These include balancing the input of urban and rural education, enhancing rural education resources with the aid of information technology, and enacting government policies that support rural education.

A Review of Research on Chinese University Foreign Language Teachers’ Information Literacy

Information technology has been deeply integrated in and widely applied to various fields of society, including education. The continuous informatization of higher education means that university teachers will face new challenges of information technology. The requirements for a teacher’s information literacy imply a higher ability to teach with the aid of information technology. The connotation of information literacy and the improvement of information technology ability of foreign language teachers in Chinese universities have been deeply explored. This article reviews the previous research of the information literacy of foreign language teachers in Chinese universities, points out the limitations of the research, and makes some suggestions for further study.

A comparison of environmental performance of electronic and bound-thesis using life cycle assessment

Dematerialization through information technology aids in advancing environmental sustainability. Replacing a bound thesis with an e-thesis for a university dissertation will be a complementary paradigm shift for higher environmental performance. Hence, the study intended to determine and compare the environmental performance parameters of conventional paper-based bound-thesis and e-thesis. Moreover, the study aimed to identify the activities causing higher environmental burdens during the production of bound and e-thesis. Open LCA 1.11 was employed for a conventional bound thesis with its e-version submitted by the undergraduates of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka. The study utilized U.S. EPA life-cycle inventory data. The analysis demonstrated that the overall global warming potential of a 40-page hard cover thesis was 4,839,000.00 kg CO2-eq to which paper and cover import and paper manufacturing stages contributed more than 99% (4,830,000.0 kg CO2-eq). In comparison, a 0.084 MB soft copy of an e-thesis reported a negligible (0.09936 kg CO2-eq) global warming potential value. Ozone formation-human health, ozone formation-terrestrial ecosystems, terrestrial acidification, fine particulate matter formation, and marine eutrophication potential were 265,584.31 kg NOx eq, 265,583.21 kg NOx eq, 177,451.5 kg SO2 eq, 52,948 kg PM2.5 eq, and 29,041.0 kg N-eq for bound thesis production system. Except for the stratospheric ozone depletion impact and water consumption, environmental performance indicators of e-thesis were superior to the conventional-bound thesis. The study recommends the preparation of e-thesis as an environmentally sound approach. Switching to renewables, extended lifespan, and material recycling of devices at the end of use, sustainable forestry practices, process optimization, and cleaner production technologies can further enhance the environmental performance of e-thesis.

In the course of developing an Air Navigation Engineering Learning Management System using the ADDIE method (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation), the design was implemented on WordPress due to its flexibility in integrating plugins. This LMS website for Air Navigation Engineering prioritizes material, material delivery, quizzes, assessments, and certificates. The website's data validation yielded an overall feasibility rate of 96.6%, as confirmed by objective validators. Multiple respondents attested to an overall usability rate of 96.2%. Efficient material delivery is facilitated through the use of instructional videos. Additionally, the website offers a payment system for accessing necessary materials.

Application of Information Technology in the Flipped English Classroom in Huizhou Secondary Schools

In today's era, the rapid development of information technology is driving the continuous change of classroom teaching methods. The flipped classroom with the aid of information technology can make up for the shortcomings of the traditional teaching "teacher dominates, students are passive", create a new teaching mode of "student-oriented, teacher-led", and realize the perfect integration of information technology and teaching. Based on the results of a questionnaire survey, this paper analyzes the application of information technology in the English flipped classroom of Huizhou secondary schools, and discusses the current situation, problems and solutions of information technology in the English flipped classroom of secondary schools. It is suggested that the flipped classroom based on information technology should be further popularized and applied to improve students' information literacy, enhance teachers' ability to integrate resources, improve classroom teaching effects, and truly play the role of information technology in the flipped classroom.

An Interactive Dashboard Using a Virtual Assistant for Visualizing Smart Manufacturing

In the era of Industry 4.0, manufacturing sites are becoming more sophisticated and connected with the aid of Information Technology (IT) and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) infrastructure. What makes a smart manufacturing enterprise as opposed to a traditional one is the ability to solve existing problems and predict issues to fix them before they occur while creating advantaged value. Dashboards, assisting decision-makers in business markets, can organize data from machines, sensors, and workers into a real-time visual representation. They provide a quick overview of how your entire business is operating and where you stand in relation to the key performance indicators for supporting the development toward more resource-efficient and sustainable processes. However, if users need more information related to the indicators shown on the dashboard, current approaches mainly rely on human effort to search and retrieve the information. The lack of interaction between the dashboard and users often results in inconvenient operations and limits the usage of the tool, especially in the manufacturing industry. In this study, an interaction design is developed to resolve the issue. The proposed dashboard is developed by a three-layer structure including data layer, processing layer, and presentation layer. A virtual assistant is introduced to play the role of a mediator between the dashboard and the user. It provides users with a natural language interface to communicate, directly interacts with the dashboard on users’ behalf, and actively reminds relevant personnel to expedite data collection. Compared with the traditional human-machine interface, the adoption of this lightweight and easy-to-use design can not only create a frictionless and intuitive experience but also ensure that data is displayed in a timely manner.

Reducing prophylactic antibiotics use in laparoscopic cholecystectomy and liver resections.

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy and liver resections are commonly performed surgical procedures which require no or less (cefazolin only) antimicrobial prophylaxis respectively in light of recent evidence. To assess the validity of this data in the local context and increase compliance to such regimens, a multi-modal intervention including, changes to hospital antibiotic prophylaxis guidelines, departmental emphasis, information technology aids (involving the creation of order templates within our electronic medical system) and physical aids (in the form of cards given to junior staff) was implemented. Results comparing a 6-month preintervention period (January 2018 to June 2018) showed no significant increase in 30-day hospital readmission rates (P = 0.8, 0.7) despite a significant rise in compliance (P = 0.04, 0.03) in laparoscopic cholecystectomy (n = 371) and liver resections respectively (n = 193) compared to the 6-month intervention period (July 2018 to December 2018). Additionally, prescription behavior for liver resections was more varied than that of laparoscopic cholecystectomy likely due to the different anatomical considerations in the prior. In conclusion, removal of antibiotic prophylaxis in laparoscopic cholecystectomy and use of cefazolin only in liver resection is not associated with any significant increase in 30-day hospital readmission rates.

A Personalized English Teaching Design Based on Multimedia Computer Technology

In the Internet age, the proliferation of multimedia computer technology (MCT) brings unprecedented opportunities to English teaching in colleges. This paper firstly carries out a questionnaire survey on the current status of personalized teaching of college English, and summed up the main problems with the current teaching mode. On this basis, the authors developed an MCT-based personalized English teaching design, with the aid of information technology (IT) and online teaching platform. To verify its effect, the proposed design was tested through contrastive experiment. The results show that the MCT-based personalized English teaching design could improve the interests and performance of English learning, and cultivate a good learning habit. In summary, this paper explores the personalized teaching of college English from both theoretical and practical angles, laying a good basis for high-quality English teaching and personalized development of students.

Teaching Interactive Fiction for Undergraduate Students with the Aid of Information Technologies: An Experience Report

This paper presents an experience report concerning the use of a platformcalled “Storium” in the subject of “Interactive Fiction” for undergraduatestudents, from a Digital Design Course. The objective was to use the learningtheories of constructivism and multimedia learning to create an instructionalplan devised to teach the students how to create complex interactive narrativesand stories from a practical perspective. During the course, the students learnedthe subject’s theoretical concepts and applied them directly, creating their owninteractive fiction. The results from this research proposes a new approach, usingdigital tools whose resources provides an environment for the creation ofinteractive narratives. These narratives can be used to aid future designs ofinstructional plans for complex writing concepts.

An expert system gap analysis and empirical triangulation of individual differences, interventions, and information technology applications in alertness of railroad workers

In this abstract we would like to provide some exciting concrete information including the article's main impact and significance on expert and intelligent systems. The main impact is that the PTC expert intelligent system fills in the gaps between the human and software decision making processes. This gap analysis is analyzed via empirical triangulation of rail worker data collected from its groups, individuals and the rail industry itself. We utilize an expert intelligent system PTC information technology application to both measure and to improve the alertness of the groups and workers in order to improve the overall safety of the railways through reduced human errors and failures to prevent accidents. Many individual differences in alertness among military, railroad, and other industry workers stem from a lack of sufficient sleep. This continues to be a concern in the railroad industry, even with the implementation of positive train control (PTC) expert system technology. Information technology aids such as PTC cannot prevent all accidents, and errors and failures with PTC may occur. Furthermore, drug interventions are a short-term solution for improving alertness. This study investigated the effect of sleep deprivation on the alertness of railroad signalmen at work, individual differences in alertness, and the information technology available to improve alertness. We investigated various information and communication technology control systems that can be used to maintain operational safety in the railroad industry in the face of incompatible circadian rhythms due to irregular hours, weekend work, and night operations. To fully explain individual differences after the adoption of technology, our approach posits the necessary parameters that one must consider for reason-oriented action, sequential updating, feedback, and technology acceptance in a unified model. This triangulation can help manage workers by efficiently increasing their productivity and improving their health. In our analysis we used R statistical software and Tableau. To test our theory, we issued an Apple watch to a locomotive engineer. The perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and actual use he reported led to an analysis of his sleep patterns that eventually ended in his adoption of a sleep apnea device and an improvement in his alertness and effectiveness. His adoption of the technology also resulted in a decrease in his use of chemical interventions to increase his alertness. Our model shows that the alertness of signalmen can be predicted. Therefore, we recommend that the alertness of all railroad workers be predicted given the safety limitations of PTC.

With the concept of the information superhighway being proposed, the educational model with the aid of information technology has developed rapidly. This paper uses constructivist learning theory to construct a new teaching model, including innovative teaching content and methods of change. Realizing the development of educational informatization and meeting the challenges brought by the information society to education has become an inevitable trend of today’s education. The development and innovation of emerging technologies has become the main references in the field of teaching to help learners set up effective self-learning methods and develop the ability to continuously update knowledge. As a second-generation Web language, this article introduces VRML as a methodology. Combined with the characteristics of actual cases, this paper analyzes the application of VRML in virtual teaching environment and gives a concrete implementation method. In view of the application of virtual reality modeling language (VRML) in online teaching, this paper summarizes and analyzes the functions, basic features and development direction of VRML. This paper explores the basic theory of CAI and the principles of network teaching. We divide the online teaching mode based on VRML into two application methods and propose a network teaching mode based on VRML.

The experimental teaching platform based on engineering project and students' subjectivity, created with the aid of information technology. The project type experimental teaching activities are organized and managed efficiently. The experimental teaching takes project design, project implementation, completion of the project and project evaluation report as the framework, with the module of theories of knowledge management, teachers’ intelligent guidance, student feedback management and experimental education management. Based on the experimental teaching of engineering project, in the cultivation of students' engineering consciousness and innovative spirit, enhancing students' ability to analyze and solve engineering problems is of great significance. Based on the engineering project experimental teaching platform, the theoretical teachers, the experimental teachers and the students are closely related. Platform with information technology manages experimental teaching activities based on project efficiently.

Becoming Friends in Online Brand Communities: Evidence From China

With the aid of information technology, consumers have increasingly engaged in social interaction in online brand communities. How can these strangers make friends online? Drawing on embeddedness theory and media richness theory, we examine the antecedents and intermediate mechanisms of online friendship. We theorize that online brand community interactivity aided by instant messaging technology is the main driving force of online friendship, whereas social presence and a sense of yuan a Chinese concept describing predetermined relations mediate online friendship development. Online friendship in turn enhances consumer online brand community commitment. We test our conceptual model with a sample of consumers from Chinese online sporting goods forums. The results support our hypotheses and inform online brand community research and practice.

Cost-Effectiveness Analysis of the Information Technology Aided Relaps Prevention Programme in Schizophrenia (Itareps) in the Czech Republic

Information technology aided relapse prevention programme in schizophrenia (ITAREPS) is a unique mobile phone-based telemedicine solution for weekly remote patient monitoring and disease management of psychotic disorders in general, particularly of schizophrenia. RCTs evidence suggests that ITAREPS is highly effective in decreasing hospitalization schizophrenia relapses. Based on these RCTs, we performed a cost-utility analysis of ITAREPS compared to the treatment of schizophrenia without ITAREPS in the Czech Republic. We developed a 20-year Markov cohort model with yearly cycle length and four health states, i.e. without relapse, with non-hospitalization relapse, with hospitalization relapse and death. Transition probabilities and resource use were derived from the Czech RCT and utilities were derived from published literature. Costs were calculated from healthcare payer’s perspective. Costs and outcomes were discounted by 3%. Probabilistic sensitivity analysis (PSA) with 3000 iterations was performed. Over a 20-year time horizon, ITAREPS compared to non-ITAREPS brings additional 0.21 QALY (12.33 vs. 12.12). The incremental total costs were -€5,554 (€55,435 vs. €60,989) for ITAREPS. The insignificantly higher costs of ITAREPS service itself (€155 in the first and €120 in subsequent years) are therefore vastly offset by savings of hospitalization relapse costs (€1,243 vs. €11,748); ITAREPS on average prevents 5 hospitalization relapses in 20-year time horizon (0.73 vs. 5.77 hospitalizations) per patient. The results of the PSA show that ITAREPS is cost-effective in 93% iterations under the WTP threshold equal to €0. An extensive scenario analysis confirmed the base-case results, ITAREPS was dominant in all scenarios. ITAREPS is a highly cost-effective intervention in patients with schizophrenia and it is even a dominant intervention in comparison with non-ITAREPS since it is more effective in terms of QALY gained and cheaper at the same time. There is even 93% probability of ITAREPS being cost-effective at the WTP threshold equal to €0.

The micro smart grid as a materialised imaginary within the German energy transition

In technical terms, a micro smart grid is one solution for future energy supply from renewable energy sources with the aid of information technology. However, it also symbolises the idea of a transformation into a low-carbon, non-fossil-fuel society. This paper analyses that the micro smart grid works as a sociotechnical imaginary and boundary object across a specific actor constellation with plural backgrounds, interests and perspectives. Empirical data has been gathered for this study from an urban innovation campus in Germany, an ascribed living lab for innovation and research that represents an especially designated place combined with spatially embedded visions of the future city and energy system. Here the micro smart grid imaginary is closely interlinked with the place and becomes materialised: it is argued that despite the micro smart grid's incomplete status in terms of technical advancement and reliability, the imaginary already generates cooperation and commitment across actor groups and sectors. The place provides a shared, protected experimental space as well as boundary objects, thus, first, enabling the actors to cope with the perceived uncertainty in the transition process. Second, it fosters innovation, new business models and forms of cooperation, and thereby, third, contributes to the energy system transformation.

Psychiatrist's adherence: a new factor in relapse prevention of schizophrenia. A randomized controlled study on relapse control through telemedicine system.

Exposure to psychotic states has detrimental effects on the long-term outcome of schizophrenia and brain integrity. Therefore, improving relapse prevention is a key component of long-term management of schizophrenia. Previous studies using continuous monitoring of an individual's early signs of relapse and adopting preventative pharmacological interventions, when early signs are detected, showed promising clinical results in terms of relapse risk reduction. This 18-month multi-centre parallel randomized controlled, open label, trial with telemedicine relapse prevention programme ITAREPS failed to show superiority of maintenance plus prodrome-based targeted medication strategy over treatment as usual. The study, marked by low investigator's adherence, confirmed that absence of pharmacological intervention at early stage of prodrome, critically influenced the risk of relapse. This and previous randomized controlled trials with telemedicine programme ITAREPS suggested that substantial improvement in relapse prevention in schizophrenia is likely to be unattainable under current clinical settings. Future preventive strategies in schizophrenia would require rapid pharmacological intervention upon occurrence of subclinical prodromal symptoms that are undetectable under conventional outpatient practice. Studies with ITAREPS suggested that integration of telemedicine relapse prevention systems and visiting nurse service might together represent practical solution capable to address those requirements. The Information Technology Aided Relapse Prevention Programme in Schizophrenia (ITAREPS) presents a telemedicine solution for weekly monitoring and management of schizophrenia. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the programme in reducing the number of hospitalizations during the 18-month multi-centre parallel randomized controlled, open label, trial. Outpatients with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder were randomized to the active (n = 74) or control group (n = 72). In the active arm, investigators increased the antipsychotic dose upon occurrence of prodrome announced by the system. Intention-to-treat analysis showed no between-group difference in the hospitalization-free survival rate [Kaplan-Meier method; hazard ratio (HR) = 1.21, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.56-2.61, P = 0.6). In a post hoc multivariate Cox proportional hazards model, out of 13 potential predictors, only ITAREPS-related variables (number of alerts without pharmacological intervention/HR = 1.38, P = 0.042/ and patient non-adherence with ITAREPS /HR = 1.08, P = 0.009/) increased the risk of hospitalization. In this trial ITAREPS was not effective. The results in context with previous ITAREPS studies suggest non-adherence of both psychiatrists and patients as the main reasons for the failure of this preventive strategy. Tertiary prevention in schizophrenia have to be regarded a major challenge, warranting the need for implementation of strategies with more active participation of both patient and treating psychiatrist.

A medical expert seeks the aid of information technology to identify the disease and to decide which technique to use to cure the disease.

Challenges of managing medications for older people at transition points of care.

In clinical practice, pharmacists play a very important role in identifying and correcting medication discrepancies as older patients move across transition points of care. With increasing complexity of health care needs of older people, these discrepancies are likely to increase. The major concern with identifying and correcting medication discrepancies is that medication reconciliation is considered a retrospective problem--that is, dealing with medication discrepancies after they have occurred. It is argued here that a more proactive stance should be taken where doctors, nurses and pharmacists collectively work together to prevent medication discrepancies from happening in the first place. Improved involvement of patients and family members will help to facilitate better management of medications across transition points of care. Efficient use of information technology aids, such as electronic medication reconciliation tools, should also assist with organizational systems problems associated with the working culture, heavy workloads, and staff and skill mix of health professionals.
