P‐224: Late‐News Poster: Development of 660Hz LCD with Low Resistance Gate LTPS Backplane

16‐inch FHD+ (Full High Definition Plus, 1920*1200) LCD featuring LTPS TFTs with a new low‐resistance alloy gate metal and fast response AFFS (Advanced Fringe Field Switching) liquid crystal technology has been developed, which achieves a ClearMR value of 9000 at 480Hz frame rate and fulfills the requirement for product reliability test. These technologies, including the new gate metal TFTs and employing Fast‐Response time liquid crystal, have also been implemented in a 17.3‐inch FHD (Full High Definition, 1920*1080) gaming laptop LCD. This larger panel operates at an even higher frame rate of 660Hz and higher ClearMR values with GtG (Gray to Gray) liquid crystal response time within 1ms. These advancements mark significant progress in the field of high‐performance gaming displays.

P‐133: A Novel Portable LCD with New AFFS (AFFS+) Technology for High Transmittance and Superior Sunlight Readability

AbstractIn this paper, we have developed novel pixel design of advanced fringe field switching (AFFS) mode with high transmittance and high reflectance for superior sunlight readability. These properties are achieved by high aperture pixel design and by reflective areas of metal embossing pattern on the gate area as well as data bus line with BM‐less of color filter on the data bus line. We also achieved low surface reflectance with anti‐reflective (AR) polarizer and high transmittance with DBEF polarizer. In this paper, we will show panel characteristics of 10.4‐inch XGA tablet with improved indoor and outdoor images.

Control of reverse twist domain near a pixel edge using strong vertical electric field in the fringe-field switching liquid crystal device

In the fringe-field switching (FFS) liquid crystal (LC) device, competition between two opposite forces to twist LCs exists near the pixel edge. The authors proposed an advanced FFS structure with the strong vertical field near the pixel edge which was induced between Cr black matrix (BM) and pixel electrode due to electrical connection between the Cr BM and the common electrode. The vertical field induces a tilt angle of LCs which increases with increasing field intensity. As a result, the degree of twist in the reverse direction decreases with increasing the pixel voltage, and thus voltage-dependent LC dynamics becomes very stable even at high applied voltages.

Integrated a‐Si TFT row driver circuits for high‐resolution applications

Abstract— A 12.1‐in. tablet liquid‐crystal‐display (LCD) panel with integrated amorphous‐silicon row driver circuits has been developed using a standard TFT process and Advanced Fringe‐Field Switching (AFFS) technology. An XGA‐resolution 768‐stage shift‐register circuit with two‐phase clocks has been designed and fabricated. The circuit parameters were optimized in order to obtain a highly reliable a‐Si row‐driver‐circuit structure. Thermal Humidity Operation (THO) test results at 50°C and 80% humidity during 500 hours of operation shows that the fabricated panel is reliable during long‐term operation and any abnormal display phenomenon was not observed at 0°C.

A novel portable LCD using a new AFFS technology for outdoor readability

— The advanced fringe-field switching (AFFS) mode is suitable for portable display devices. It has high transmittance, wide viewing angle, low power consumption, high contrast ratio, and a ripple-free property resistant to pressure. Recently, a 10.4-in. XGA prototype which demonstrates excellent transmittance and very good outdoor readability has been developed. To obtain these properties, a new pixel structure has been designed which has a large aperture and a metal embossing pattern for inner reflectance without the use of a black matrix on the embossing metal pattern. Precise control of the liquid-crystal electrodynamics and surface reflectance using an AR polarizer was achieved. This new panel shows distinguished characteristics for outdoor readability with the backlight on under a bright outside light source.

16.1: Invited Paper: A Novel Outdoor Readability of Portable TFT-LCD with AFFS Technology

Recently, we have developed advanced fringe field switching (AFFS) technology with a novel outdoor readability, super high CR and high transmittance that obtained from a new electro-optical design rule by optimization of LC electrodynamics and precise control of polarization light without transflective resin technology. Our new device in 12.1″ XGA has shown the transmittance over 8%, surface reflectance under 0.2%, hardness over 4H, outdoor visibility (image quality, color representation) better than the transflective LCD, contrast ratio over 800:1 and viewing angle over 180°/180°, respectively.

P-143 The Superior Readability and Ultra Low Power Consumption of mAFFS LCD by the New Design

Recently, we have developed 2.03″ QVGA LCD by mobile advanced fringe field switching (mAFFS) technology with an unlimited viewing angle and color characteristics that obtained from a new design rule upgrade only by maximization of pixel aperture and LC electrodynamics without high aperture resin technology. Our new device have shown the brightness over 260nits, contrast ratio over 700:1, transmittance ratio is 5.72% (excluding recycling by film). and also our mobile AFFS shows the superior outdoor readability and low power consumption under the color reproduction of mAFFS with viewing angles increases of 5% and excellent readability in outdoor.

60.4L: Late-News Paper: CRT Like Characteristics of 32ʺ WXGA TFT-LCD by True Vision Advanced FFS Pixel Concept

Recently, we have developed 32″ WXGA LCD-TV by True Vision (TV) advanced fringe field switching (AFFS) technology with the CRT like color images that obtained from a design rule upgrade only by optimization of LC electrodynamics with compensation polarizer in off axis, for the first time in the world. Our new device have shown the brightness over 600nits (Color shift < 0.02 and Transmittance ratio > 5%), gray to gray response under 8ms, contrast ratio over 800:1 and viewing angle over 178/178, respectively. When the picture was moving in our device, moving color shift and blurring edge width (BEW area) were under 0.02 and very smaller than other modes, respectively. And also, color reproduction and three HSI white intensity in all viewing angles show CRT like behavior with stable color gamut and nearly same white intensity.

13.5: Late-News Paper: Super High Performance of the 20.8ʺ Medical Monitor Using True Black Advanced FFS

Recently, the liquid crystal displays (LCD) have been expected to replace the old cathode-ray-tube (CRTs) as a medical display for diagnosis and fine clinics. We have developed the super fine medical display of 20.8″ QXGA(2048×1536) by true black (TB) advanced fringe field switching (AFFS) technology with an unlimited viewing angle and true black uniformity. New TB medical device have shown the brightness over 800nits, contrast ratio over 800:1, dark level under 1nit and viewing angle over 178/178, respectively.

We only optimized the LC electrodynamics without using high‐aperture resin technology or enhanced films. Our new device has shown a brightness of over 184 nits, a contrast ratio of over 600:1, a low color shift, and a viewing angle of over 175/175, respectively.

AbstractRecently, we have developed advanced fringe field switching (AFFS) technology with an unlimited viewing angle and color characteristics that obtained from a design rule upgrade only by optimization of LC electrodynamics without high aperture resin technology, for the first time in the world. Our new device have shown the brightness over 184nits, contrast ratio over 600:1 and viewing angle over 175/175, respectively. And also, 15″ UXGA TFT‐LCD show an unlimited viewing angle and color shift free under 0.02 at white level such as dual domain LC(S‐IPS). We have studied that is due to vertically twisted liquid crystal on the mid gap of fringe field electrodes.
