In a recent nationwide study, administrative or house supervisors identified a lack collaboration with the daytime leadership team. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore and describe collaboration between nursing unit-based managers and administrative supervisors. Interviews conducted with administrative supervisors and nursing unit-based managers (N = 12) revealed an overall theme of “no real collaboration” with subthemes of “default to e-mail communication” and “not tapped as a resource.” Fostering administrative supervisor and nursing unit-based manager collaboration with joint leadership meetings and working together on projects and performance reviews will benefit our patients, staff, and organization.
