Gastrojejunostomy is a commonly performed bypass procedure for various intra- abdominal pathologies. Jejunogastric intussusception is a rare and serious complication following gastrojejunostomy. It was first described in 1914 by Bozzi. These patients may present with features of acute onset intestinal obstruction many years after the primary surgical procedure. Such patients present with a classical triad of sudden onset epigastric pain, vomiting with or with-out hematemesis and a palpable epigastric mass. Upper G.I endoscopy is certainly diagnostic and computed tomography of the abdomen could also help in diagnosis. There is no medical treatment for acute jejunogastric intussusception and the correct treatment is surgical intervention as soon as possible. A mortality rate of 50% has been reported if operated after 48hrs of intussusception. The rarity of the complication and the need for urgent surgical management have prompted us to report this case of a 55years old patient having retrograde intussusception, 30 years after the gastro-enteric anastamosis.

Jejunogastric Intussusception: An Unusual Cause of Hematemesis

Jejunogastric intussusception is an uncommon but potentially life-threatening complication of a previous gastrojejunal anastomosis. Although jejunogastric intussusception was first described in 1914, fewer than 200 cases have been reported in the English literature thus far. Awareness of this rare complication would help in early diagnosis and appropriate management. Described here is a case report of a patient who presented with hematemesis due to an acute jejunogastric intussusception associated with gangrene of the intussuscepted jejunum.

Acute Jejunogastric Intussusception—A Case Report

Abstract: Acute jejunogastric intussusception is often a life‐threating complication of gastric surgery. The present case of acute retrograde jejunogastric intussusception occurred twenty years after a Billroth II partial gastrectomy. Acute pancreatitis was misdiagnosed primarily became of a low suspicion index. The diagnosis was establised by gastroscopy and radiography. During surgery, an intussusception of 30 cm of the efferent jejunum was reduced. Jejunogastric intussusception should be strongly suspected in all patients who Present with epigastric pain, vomiting, hematemesis, abdominal mass, or/and high intestinal obstruction after previous gastric surgery.

Acute jejunogastric intussusception: A rare cause of abdominal pain

We report the case of a 61-year-old man with a history of a Bilroth II procedure who presented to the emergency department after 12 hours of severe epigastric pain and one episode of coffee-ground emesis. Computed tomography and esophagogastroduodenoscopy revealed intussuscepted jejunum through a gastrojejunostomy that required emergency operative reduction. This case illustrates the rare complication of acute jejunogastric intussusception more than 20 years after a Bilroth II procedure.

Jejunogastric intussusception: therapeutic options.

Acute jejunogastric intussusception is a rare complication of gastric surgery. It presents considerable difficulties in diagnosis unless the index of suspicion is high. Four cases of acute retrograde jejunogastric intussusception are reported. They were managed surgically after diagnosis had been confirmed by upper gastrointestinal contrast studies. In situ resection of the distal portion of gangrenous intussusceptum was performed in one case, while the intussusception could be reduced manually in the other three cases. The importance of early diagnosis in preventing avoidable morbidity and mortality has been stressed. In situ resection is recommended as the method of choice for the management of irreducible, gangrenous intussusception.

Jejuno-gastric Intussusception-Gastroscopic Diagnosis

A case of actue jejuno-gastric intussusception diagnosed at gastroscopy is described. The patient had undergone a Polya gastrectomy eight years previously. Other reported cases have been discovered by radiology or at surgery. Endoscopy is the method of choice to diagnose this uncommon, but important condition.

Perforation of jejunal diverticulum associated with acute retrograde jejuno-gastric intussusception.

Summary A case of perforation of a jejunal diverticulum, complicating acute jejuno‐gastricintussusception, is described. The patient survived following operative resection of jejunum. Both conditions are rare. The combination appears to be unique.
