Durand of Saint Pourçain and the actual infinite. A reflection on divine omnipotence (Super Sent., I, 43, 2)

In his Commentary on the first Book of Sentences (d. 43, q. 2, red. B), Durand of Saint Pourçain (1270-­1334) poses the question regarding the divine possibility of producing infinite actual things, contributing to the debate about the divine power of creating what is considered to be contradictory (actual infinity). Taking into account the philosophical and theological sources of Durand's Commentary on the issue, the article focuses on his accurate solution to the problem of God's production of actual infinites by analysing some arguments such as that of the production of the individuals of a species, like the souls, as well as the argument of the divisibility of the continuum and the original assumption of the commensurability of infinite quantities. The article shows that for Durand God cannot create an actual infinite, but only a potential one.

Peningkatan Hasil Belajar Siswa Melalui Penggunaan Media Benda Asli Pada Bangun Ruang Sisi Lengkung Siswa Kelas IX SMPN 2 Telukjambe Barat

Student learning outcomes at SMP Negeri 2 Telukjambe Barat in mathematics was poor, which prompted this study. Consequently, educational tools that enhance pupils' mathematical understanding must be put into place. The purpose of this classroom action study is to determine whether the ninth graders at SMPN 2 Teluk Jambe Barat can enhance their learning outcomes by using actual object media into curved sided space constructing materials. Of the total number of pupils, 39 are female and 16 are male. The project seeks to discover how to construct curved-sided rooms using actual things at SMPN 2 Telukjambe Barat, Karawang Regency. I conducted classroom action research for two cycles. Planning, doing, observing, and reflecting are the four phases that make up each cycle. Learning results improve with each cycle; cycle (1) shows a 35,13 percent improvement. In cycle (2), however, a rise of 39,49 was seen. Results in terms of knowledge gained improve with each cycle. The average score in cycle 1 increased from 38,46 before the exam to 73,59 after the test. In Cycle 1, learning outcomes increased by 35,13%, but only 66,67 percent reached the KKM. Results showed an improvement from an average pre-test score of 43,85 to an average post-test score of 83,33 in cycle 2. A mere 87,17% of participants were able to attain the KKM in cycle 2, despite a 39,49% improvement in learning outcomes overall. Research conducted during the 2022–2023 school year at SMP Negeri 2 Telukjambe Barat's class IX A found that students' mathematical understanding of curved-sided geometric objects might be enhanced via the use of actual object media.

Masked GANs for Face Completion: A Novel Deep Learning Approach

INTRODUCTION: Recent deep learning based image editing methods have achieved promising results for removing object in an image but fail to generate appreciable performance for removing large objects of complex nature, especially mask from facial images. Towards this goal the objective of this work is to remove mask objects in facial images. In this study, authors propose a novel approach for face completion using Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) that utilize masked data. This technology can help in image restoration and preservation, thus enabling us to cherish those memories that are held dear to our hearts.OBJECTIVES: Train a GAN to learn the mapping from incomplete to complete face images by utilizing a masked input image.METHODS: The discriminator is trained to distinguish between face images and full ground truth images. Our results indicate that our technique generates high-quality, realistic facial images that are visually comparable to the ground truth and that it can generalise to new faces that were not encountered during training.RESULTS: Our findings indicate that GANs with masked inputs are a good approach for generating whole face images from partial or masked data.CONCLUSION: Our experimental findings show that our method produces facial images of great quality and realism that are visually equivalent to the actual thing. Our proposed approach can also be applied to fresh faces that weren’t seen. The performance can still be improved further using larger dataset. Also, further investigation into adversial attacks may help in improving performance. This technology can be further utilized for developing realtime mask removal software as well.

하이데거의 해석학을 통한 가다머의 예술론

This paper pursues to think about Gadamer’s thinking on Art through Heidegger’s Hermeneutics. Experience on Beauty was chosen for the purpose of good explanation, and we could finally discover how Gadamer elaborated Heidegger’s hermeneutics and his thinking on Art.
 At first, hermeneutics was originally a skill of interpretation, but it became a methodology of Geisteswissenschaft by Dilthey. After that Heidegger changed hermeneutics as methodology into onology as a methaphysics, and Gadamer was successive to Heidegger’s hermeneutics and elaborated it.
 According to Gadamer, art is a field of truth that Being is revealed in Heidegger’s sense. Experience on Beauty is to discover Selbst itself in the event of Being-Aletheia, and it is a fusion of horizons(Horizontverschmelzung) in Gadamer’s philosophical vocabularies. So art is like Game(Spiel) because peoples in art rely on art itself as players should obey to game. But art expresses itself only by way of peoples in art who make art created. it is called Mimesis according to Gadamer because art is representation of Being-Truth, not just copy of actual thing.
 To conclude, art is to meet Selbst itself in the experience on beauty, and this experience is a fusion of horizons in the basis of Being-Truth according to Gadamer. So he defines that art is to be Game and Mimesis.

Physicalism Without the Idols of Mathematics

AbstractI will argue that the ontological doctrine of physicalism inevitably entails the denial that there is anything conceptual in logic and mathematics. The elements of a formal system, even if they are tagged by suggestive names, are merely meaningless parts of a physically existing machinery, which have nothing to do with concepts, because they have nothing to do with the actual things. The only situation in which they can become meaning-carriers is when they are involved in a physical theory. But in this role they refer to elements of the physical reality, i.e. they represent a physical concept. “Mathematical concepts” are just idols, that philosophy can completely deny and physics can completely ignore.

Analisis Semiotik Puisi “Kematian Dan Makam Mistik” Karya Jalaluddin Rumi

This research was motivated by the author's admiration for Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi's work and the author's interest in analyzing one of the poems as extraordinary material because there are many meanings and implied signs that need to be studied for meaning. The purpose of this study is to examine meaningfulness based on signs contained in one of Jalaluddin Rumi's poems entitled "Death and the Mystical Tomb" using a semiotic approach. The semiotic approach is an approach by examining literary works based on their signs, these signs represent other things, not actual things. Therefore, the semiotic approach in poetry will clarify the meaning that has been a sign in the expression of a poet. . The research method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method, which is a method that explains and describes the results of poetry analysis based on the data obtained. This study focuses on the discussion of the marks that appear in the poem "Death and the Mystical Tomb" by Jalaluddin Rumi which is then analyzed, so as to show signs that represent the meaning of the poem. The poem entitled "Death and the Mystical Tomb" by Jalaluddin Rumi is closely related to self-awareness of love for God. In the poem it can be concluded that there are many meanings implied through signs and signs in the form of symbols and icons only, which in its meaning leads to the existence of God's love which manifests in the beauty of the heart as a sign of life.

Make me a test and I will save the world: towards an anthropology of the possible in global health

AbstractWhat is deemed possible in the wake of failure? The global biotech industry's failure to develop affordable diagnostic devices for use in low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs) has inspired a generation of humanitarian entrepreneurs to launch their own diagnostic start‐up companies. This essay traces the rise and fall of one such start‐up in Boston in the United States, Daktari, which developed a portable HIV testing device in the 2010s. I show how the alignment of humanitarian and economic valuations in a single diagnostic device depended on the ability of the start‐up's founders and employees to synchronize the distinct tempos of financial capital, humanitarian design, and global health standards. Yet their failure to achieve this synchronization does not simply offer another story of biotech hype and speculation, the generation of promissory value at the expense of actual things. Instead, the essay examines the hopes and expectations that the firm's employees invested in the device's material qualities, manufacture, and distribution. What, I ask, is the meaning of failure, and its material remains, when it is measured against humanitarian rather than solely commercial expectations? The essay concludes with some reflections on the aftermath of failure in humanitarian entrepreneurship, examining the questions that Daktari's demise poses for understandings of what is possible and desirable in global health.

‘Betweenness’ and ‘twofoldness’: A cross-cultural interpretation of the aesthetic appreciation of paintings

ABSTRACT In appreciating paintings, what we experience is either a result of their medium or object, regardless of whether the object is an actual thing, a fictional thing, an internal emotion, an abstract idea, or something else. However, the conceptions of ‘betweenness’ in traditional Chinese aesthetics and ‘twofoldness’ in contemporary Western aesthetics tell us that our experience of paintings might not be simply from the object or the medium itself but rather from a relation between the two. This study considers the intercultural value of the above concepts while examining how our aesthetic pleasure might derive from awareness of the object, the medium, and the play of our mind and body.

Hakikat Kebahagiaan Hidup: Konsensus antara Al-Qur’an dan Filsafat Stoikisme

This study aims to find a consensus between the Qur'an and stoic philosophy about the happiness of life. The concept of happiness which varies in each individual, gives birth to different solutions. The discourse on happiness in the Stoics has become an actual thing among millennials today. This research uses a descriptive-analytical method with a qualitative approach and literature review as the main reference source. The results and discussion in this study found that there are similar indicators in achieving happiness between the Qur'an and the philosophy of stoicism. This study concludes that the Qur'an and the philosophy of stoicism are not two contradictory things, amor fati (love of destiny) and emotional control taught by the Stoic philosophers as well as the concepts of gratitude and patience in the terminology of the Qur'an. This shows that the Qur'an and philosophy have a common concept that can be met.

TINJAUAN YURIDIS TERHADAP TINDAKAN ABORSI TANPA IZIN (STUDI KASUS PUTUSAN NOMOR 407/PID.SUS/2020/PN JKT.PST)

The issue of abortion is no longer a public secret and is not a taboo subject to discuss. This is because abortions that occur today have become an actual thing and their events can occur anywhere and can be carried out by various groups, whether they are carried out by teenagers who are involved in promiscuity or adults who do not want to be burdened with responsibility and did not want the birth of the baby into this world. The problem in this paper is: What is the legal basis for regulating the crime of abortion in a positive legal perspective? and What are the basic considerations of the Panel of Judges in deciding case Number 407 /Pid.Sus/2020/PN Jkt.Pst. The research method used is a normative research method that focuses on library research to obtain secondary data from legal materials. The normative approach is carried out by reviewing the applicable provisions or laws and regulations. The results of the study show that arrangements related to abortion are regulated in two laws, namely the Criminal Code (KUHP) Articles 299, 346, 347, 348 and 349 and regulated in Law no. 36 of 2009 concerning Health Articles 75, 76.77.

Symbolisation in Ancient Tales: A Special Reference to the Malay Text Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa

Symbolisation can be interpreted as expressing what is real, not in terms of the actual thing that it is, but that which is represented in other forms. A narrative or a story that is in the mind of the writer or the storyteller is still in the form of ideas or concepts. It becomes a message when it is expressed in an organised form in the language medium that we call text. It is the text that forms the symbol to the story. In Ferdinand de Saussure’s theory of the sign, the story is the signifié or the signified, nd the text is the signifiant or the signifier. Language is an abstract and conventional symbol in the life of human beings. At the same time, there are non-language forms of symbols that have been identified as icons and indices, in particular by Charles Saunders Peirce with his theory of semiotics. This paper presents an interpretation of an ancient text, a composite of narratives of the founding of Kedah (which today is a sultanate in the north-western part of the Malay Peninsula) circa 3000 B.C.E., until the arrival of Islam circa 10th century C.E. Originally an oral tradition, the text was given a written form in the mid-18th century, using the Jawi (Malayised Arabic) script of the time. It was only in 1970 that the Jawi manuscript was transliterated using the Roman alphabet. Interpretation of the text goes through various layers of symbols, beginning with symbols in their Jawi script, and identifying words in their various forms. Making sense of linguistic elements suggests taking into account their usage within the text itself, as well as information from historical texts (in co-texts), and findings of research by relevant disciplines, specifically archaeology, geology dan geography.

Nusyuz is one of the themes discussed in the Quran. This study focuses on the disobedience of career women in the perspective of Islamic law which prioritizes justice and the relationship between husband and wife. It can be understood that nusyuz is an act of neglecting the obligations of husband and wife that causes estrangement of relations in the household with the provisions, nusyuz action is carried out with certain motives, and aims to degrade the dignity of one party.
 The more developed the situation, the more women's desire to move forward and develop their careers in the world of work. These working women are usually called career women, some of whom have different opinions regarding this, some allow it on conditions, and some do not absolutely allow it.
 The issue of women is indeed the most actual thing to talk about considering times have changed, the mindset of humans has also changed, in this modern era there are still people who look down on women, and discriminate against them. Although there are many who are interested in conducting research related to this case. The natural privileges possessed by men and women lead to differences in functions, and the main roles between the two. Islam obliges a man as a husband to provide for his wife and children, however, it does not necessarily rule out the possibility that a woman as a wife also earns a living to fulfill the family economy. Islam itself places men and women in a balanced and equal position. The problem behind the misunderstanding between the two is that there is a misunderstanding in constructing the social roles between men and women as a result of the interpretation of the Qur'anic text in particular and it seems incomplete. While basically the relationship between husband and wife, men and women is a partnership, which must support each other.

Students’ Response on Mini Lecture (Cermin) Program on the Learning Intensity in Islamic Education

In the current era of globalization, education is very important. If the education of a society develops well, then it is undeniable that the community will be more "qualified" and able to compete against competition that is getting tighter and tighter in various aspects of life activities. In such situations and conditions, "quality" human resources can face competition in life activities. This study aims to find out student responses about Mini Lectures (Cermin) by class II Mekar Arum High School Bandung, knowing the learning intensity of class II SMA Mekar Arum Bandung in the field of Islamic Education studies, and knowing the relationship between class II responses to Cemrin with the intensity of their learning in the field of study of Islamic Education. In general this research uses descriptive method, that descriptive inquiry aims at solving problems that exist in the present. Meanwhile the problems examined by the incident took place in the present and this research intends to reveal actual things. The results showed that students' etiquette towards teachers are students must always respect the teacher and the teacher's family, protect the rights of the teacher, do not walk in front of the teacher, do not sit in the teacher's place, do not start a conversation without the teacher’s permission, do not ask something when the teacher is bored, be on time, do not knock on the door of the teacher's house but be patient waiting for the teacher to come out.

IBchain: Internet of Things and Blockchain Integration Approach for Secure Communication in Smart Cities

Introducing IBchain, a new blockchain architecture with the Internet of Things (IoT) could be an attractive framework regarding improvements in connectivity implementation through the smart cities. Instead of meriting innovation and security, the IoT links people, sites, products and consequently, also provides opportunities. Everything that transfers information to the IoT system is integrated by advanced microchips, sensors, and actuators in actual things. The analytical ability of the IoT converts observations into actions, impacting business advancements and significant ways of activity. IoT enables connected objects to transmit information to personal blockchain systems to create tamper-resistant transaction records. The information from sensors and microchips is progressing rapidly with blockchain ledgers, making them more portable and relevant for immediate conversations. In IBchain methodology, the smart objects are permissible to connect securely with other smart objects in diverse situations. IBchain creates an innovative blockchain-based processing configuration through the IoT. The IBchain could analyze blockchain to the main expertise or supports the IoT validation and trustworthiness. In the first part of De Interpretatione 9, Aristotle introduces an argument for fatalism that he obviously does not subscribe to. Readers of the chapter wonder how Aristotle replies to that argument. In this paper I claim that the main basis of his reply is the principle of equimodality stated in 19a33 (“statements are true in the same way as the actual things are”). I defend that this principle should be interpreted in the most straightforward way, as saying that the modality with which any statement is true is the same as the modality with which the actual things referred to in the statement are what they are. This entails that something is (or will be) necessarily such and such only if the statement saying that it is (or will be) such and such is necessarily true. By applying this principle to Aristotle’s distinction between two kinds of non-necessary things – those that happen as chance has it and those that happen for the most part (hôs epi to poly) in one way rather than another –, one should conclude that, because these things are contingent, statements about them can only be contingently true.

The role of logical issues in teaching mathematics to primary school pupils

In the article pedagogical prerequisites are considered for the performance by younger school students of the system of assignments in mathematics as a method offorming logic acknowledges skills and means of the practical study of logical concepts. At three stages, circular schemes, models of actual things, and verbal representations of logical relationships are used as a tool instead of visual models. Junior high school students believe that the process of learning and cognition is not limited to mathematics lessons and textbooks, but rather pervades their whole lives.

Human-technology relations are one of the key issues in design innovation and the shaping of our future. Also in the Philosophy of Technology human-technology relations are a central theme. New insights in the complex interplay between humans and technology can be gained from collaboration between Design and Philosophy of Technology, especially in the current of the so-called ‘empirical turn’ where the focus is on individual technologies and real-world contexts. Design Innovation can use the frameworks of philosophers to theorize the findings from practice or to make sense of past developments. And designing actual things provides a powerful laboratory to test philosophical frameworks in practice. Through the collaboration between design innovation and philosophy these conceptual frameworks can become ‘practical’. Therefore, in analogy with the empirical turn in philosophy of technology before, the further step of the present collaboration with design is termed a ‘practical turn’.
