Impact of Political Education Courses on the Ideological Alignment of Students in China

This study investigates the impact of political education courses on the ideological alignment of university students in China, examining the relationship between student engagement and the degree to which they align with government-promoted ideologies. With political education being a mandatory component of university curricula in China, this research addresses the effectiveness of these courses in achieving their intended goals of fostering national unity and reinforcing government ideologies. The study is grounded in Social Learning Theory and Political Socialization Theory to understand the mechanisms behind student engagement and ideological alignment. Existing literature highlights the importance of innovative and participatory educational approaches in enhancing political engagement, suggesting that while education fosters political awareness, the specific design of educational programs is crucial for translating this awareness into active political participation. This research aims to provide empirical evidence that can inform educational policymakers and contribute to the broader discourse on the role of political education in shaping national identity and political consciousness.

Kabiraj Krishna Chandra Tripathy Sharma: The visionary behind Orissa’s first Ayurveda pharmacy

Abstract Kabiraj Krishna Chandra Tripathi Sharma was born on February 23, 1914, in Jagarnathpur Shasan village in the Ganjam district of Odisha, India. He belonged to a Brahmin family and was the son of Shri Maguni Pathi and grandson of Shri Lachhman Pathi. Kabiraj Sharma’s early years were characterized by his innate curiosity and insatiable thirst for knowledge, which he pursued with unwavering dedication, excelling in various academic subjects. His excellent academic performance gained him wide recognition and respect within his community. Kabiraj KC Tripathi, a distinguished scholar and practitioner of Ayurveda, started his educational journey in his village, Chatsali. He had a remarkable command over Sanskrit. He joined the famous Bhesaja Temple (Ayurveda School) at Paralakhemundi in 1929, where he began a transformative educational journey. His constant pursuit of excellence and dedication to his studies, from 1933 to 1936, resulted in attaining LAMS, Visagratna, and Kabyatirtha degrees from Astanga Ayurved College, Kolkata. He established the Ayurvedic Pharmacy and Utkal Chemical Dispensary and has played an important role in the distribution of medicines throughout Odisha and significantly contributed to the field of Ayurveda by establishing a famous book publishing house named Utkal Ayurveda Library. As a physician, he has written and published 54 invaluable Ayurvedic books in the Oriya language; some of his notable published works include “Apoorva Yoga Ratnakara,” “Ashtanga Ayurveda Chikitsa” (in seven parts), “Ayurveda Chikitsa Sangrahalaya” (Part I and II), “Sachitra Paribarika Dravyaguna,” “Charakasamhita,” “Vaidya Panjika,” and “Vatrog Chikitsa.”. Kabiraj Krishna Chandra Tripathi Sharma started his active participation in politics in 1966 and was elected as a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly in 1971–1972. Notably, among his development-oriented initiatives, he proposed the establishment of a State-Level Pharmacy and Research Center for Ayurveda in Odisha with a budget of 12 lakh rupees to spread awareness and promote Ayurvedic practices in the region. The remarkable contribution of Kabiraj Krishna Chandra Tripathi Sharma in the field of Ayurveda and his selfless community service has been widely recognized and appreciated. He has received many prestigious awards, including the esteemed “Vaidya Shiromani” Award, “Ayurveda Ratna” Award, “Ayurveda Gaurav” Award, “Neelasaila” Award (1974) by the Neelashaila Cultural Organization Cuttack, “The Jayadava” Award (1981) Are. “Sananda” Award (1981) by the State Culture and Tourism Department of Odisha, Center for Musical Arts, Berhampur, “Vaidyakul Chandra” Award (1988) by Dhanvantari Indian Medical Development Institute Ganjam, and “KBJ Basudev Mahapatra Smriti” Award in 1993 by Kedarnath Research Organization, Bhubaneswar, and others. In 2006, Kabiraj Krishna Chandra Tripathi Sharma passed away, leaving a lasting legacy in the hearts and minds of those he served. He has left an indelible mark through his outstanding contribution to the field of Ayurveda and community service in Odisha. His selfless dedication and unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of others have inspired many, and his teachings and principles are respected by his followers and admirers, thereby benefiting the society. Objectives The purpose of this study is to examine how youth political participation affects political efficacy at a time when institutional and non-institutional political participation activities of youth are becoming active, and to analyze whether political awareness acts as a mediating effect. Methods To this end, we conducted a self-administered online and offline survey targeting 365 youth from middle and high schools in the Daejeon area and youth active in youth training facilities, and used SPSS and Process Macro to assess political participation activities, political efficacy, and politics. The relationship between consciousness was analyzed. Results First, there was a positive (+) effect on the relationship between youth's political participation experience and political efficacy, and second, the relationship between political efficacy and political awareness was also found to have a positive (+) effect. Third, political awareness was confirmed to play a complete mediating role between youth's political participation activities and political efficacy. Conclusions Based on this study, a plan to revitalize youth political participation was proposed. First, youth institutional political participation must be expanded. Second, changes are needed in our country’s educational environment. Third, the government's active interest and generous support for youth political participation is needed.

YOUTH PEOPLE’S CIVIC AND POLITICAL ENGAGEMENT AT SMAN 1 GIRI, BANYUWANGI REGENCY

This community service activity aims to increase the political and civil literacy of novice voters in preparation for the 2024 Simultaneous Elections in Indonesia. The targets of this community service activity are school students or youth who are at least 17 years old in the year the 2024 Simultaneous Election will be held. Youth were chosen as the main target because they are a group with a large proportion in the 2024 election contestation which will determine the future of democracy. As new voters, they need preparation and a deep understanding of how to participate in the political process effectively to determine the direction and policies of government. For this reason, the Public Administration Department of Universitas Airlangga will partner with the East Java Provincial Education Office which will later provide guidance to the SMAN 1 Giri, Banyuwangi Regency to hold a community service program at the school. Community service activities will involve understanding the political system, democratic processes, political issues, and the importance of active political participation. Activities will be carried out through three main stages: preparation, implementation and evaluation. The preparatory stage involves collecting and compiling relevant political and civic literacy materials. Next, the implementation stage will involve counseling, workshops and group discussions to provide in-depth understanding to novice voters. The evaluation stage will be carried out to measure the effectiveness of the program and obtain feedback from participants. It is hoped that this activity will provide a fundamental contribution in increasing the political and civil literacy of novice voters. With a better understanding of the political system, first-time voters will be able to make good political decisions, participate actively in the political process, and critically evaluate the information they receive.

Analyzing The Effectiveness of 30% Gender Affirmative Action Policy in Indonesia

The Indonesian government’s 30% Affirmative Action Policy addresses gender inequalities by bolstering women’s representation in strategic positions. This research investigated the policy’s effectiveness in achieving this goal and uncovered constraints hindering women’s active participation in politics. Grounded in both gender equality and affectivity theories, the study pinpoints key issues of gender imbalance and investigates the policy’s impact on organizational dynamics within the political sphere. A qualitative analysis, informed by a comprehensive literature review, suggested that the implementation of the 30% Affirmative Action Policy since the reform era has demonstrably contributed to an increase in female representation within the political sphere. However, the policy’s effectiveness remains contingent upon addressing various challenges, including the persistent underrepresentation of women across both legislative and executive positions, where the 30% target has yet to be consistently achieved. Key influential factors in the implementation of this policy include the roles of the government, political parties, and society. Nevertheless, the policy is crucial in reshaping social norms regarding gender roles in politics. Overall, this article provided a comprehensive overview of the effectiveness of the 30% Affirmative Action Policy in achieving optimal gender representation in Indonesia. Policy implications and recommendations for enhancing the sustainability and effectiveness of this policy were also discussed to advance women’s participation in various social and professional aspects of life in Indonesia. The influence of religious attachment on intended political engagement among lower-secondary students

Religious attachment has been identified as an important correlate of civic participation, civic engagement, and civil participation among adults. This study investigates two aspects of relationships between religiosity and intended political engagement among lower secondary school students in 2009 and 2016. One aspect is the extent to which religious attachment is associated with an endorsement of the influence of religion in society. This can be viewed as the converse of secularity which asks for the separation of social and political institutions from religion. A second aspect investigated is the extent to which religious attachment is associated with expected adult electoral participation and expected adult active political participation after controlling for the effects of other characteristics. While the results from this study show no strong or consistent relationships between religious background and expected political participation among lower-secondary students, findings suggest that young people’s endorsement of religious influence in society depends strongly on their religious background and in turn shows associations with expected active political participation.

Political Participation Behavior: Young People’s Enthusiasm for the 2024 Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections

Abstract The enthusiasm of the younger generation for presidential and vice-presidential elections has a significant impact on the political dynamics of a country. This study aims to explore the factors that influence the level of enthusiasm of the younger generation in the process of electing the head of state. The research method used is descriptive analysis using primary and secondary data. The findings show that factors such as political education, social media, participation in political activities, and the aspirations of the younger generation play an important role in shaping their level of enthusiasm for the presidential and vice-presidential elections. The results of this analysis provide valuable insights for policymakers, political stakeholders and educational institutions to design more effective strategies to strengthen young people’s engagement in the democratic process, as well as to sustain their political participation in the future.

Nigeria and the culture of recycling old leaders, its effect on her economic advancement and nation building in the 21<sup>st</sup> Century; A critical examination

Recycling old leaders in Nigeria politics has been a problem to the Nigeria people in recent time as the country has the habit of recycling old leaders who are between 87 years and 90 years who has nothing good again to offer the country, while the youths are there without any hope. This paper explores Nigeria political system and the culture of recycling old leaders, and its effects on her economic advancement/development and Nation building in the 21st Century. The theory used to analyze the paper was Modernization Theory, while the methodology for data collection was secondary sources like; books, newspapers, journal articles, and internet source materials, among others. The research findings on the subject matter implicated ethnic politics, sit tight syndrome and greed, among others. These manifested in economic backwardness/stagnation, relegating citizens’ backward, disunity, killing of initiatives and discouragement of ideas on nation building and economic advancement, as well as ethnic politics, encourages corruption and nepotism. Based on the findings, the paper suggests constitution review, age limit for the political office seeker, power rotation, youth active participation in politics by joining a political party, overhauling the system and condition of service for every political office seeker.

Tempering senses of superiority: The virtue of magnanimity in democracies

AbstractRecent years have witnessed growing concerns about mutual disrespect and civic enmity among democratic citizens. Ordinary people often find themselves in a particularly adversarial condition in which they shamelessly disregard their opponents and hold them in contempt, and vice versa. Each tends to assert their superiority while appearing to be impudent to one another. Instead of simply calling for mutual respect—deliberative or agonistic—this article aims to understand why people are prone to treating their opponents with disrespect in such an impassioned situation and how to temper the pleasing sense of superiority while redirecting its very motivational power toward better ends. Drawing primarily from Aristotle's Rhetoric, my account of magnanimity shows that the magnanimous can better manage to interact with their opponents, retaining their sense of superiority necessary for active political participation while at once preventing themselves from the downward spiral of the politics of impudence.

Enhancing local governments' environmental attention through open government data: evidence from China.

Environmental conservation has ascended to a prominent position on the global agenda, and China, recognizing the urgent need for environmental protection, has implemented nationwide measures. However, varying levels of environmental attentiveness among local governments have resulted in uneven implementation of these national directives across regions. Therefore, it is crucial to investigate the factors that drive local governments' environmental attention. Our study explores the impact of open government data (OGD) on local governments' environmental attention. Utilizing city-level data from 2010 to 2020, we employ a staggered difference-in-differences (DID) model for empirical analysis. The results reveal that OGD significantly and positively influences local governments' environmental attention. This influence is partly attributed to OGD's role in promoting government digitization, mitigating fiscal pressures, and increasing energy demand. Further analysis, including heterogeneity assessments, demonstrates that OGD has a more pronounced positive effect on environmental attention in cities with higher online political participation activity and a larger internet user base. Such empirical insights underscore the imperative for an integrative policy framework that accentuates the refinement of OGD platform in tandem with strategic enhancements in political participatory mechanisms and digital infrastructure investments, thereby fostering robust local environmental stewardship paradigms.

Analisis Faktor-Faktor Determinan Dalam Pemilu : Suatu Tinjauan Terhadap Perspektif Mahasiswa PPKN Unimed Stambuk 2023

General elections (Pemilu) are a key element in strengthening the foundation of democracy, where voter participation, especially among students, plays a crucial role in shaping the direction of a country's democracy. This research explores the determinant factors influencing the decisions of young voters, particularly students in the Civic Education Program (PPKN) at Universitas Negeri Medan (Unimed) with Stambuk 2023. The primary focus of this study is to understand the motivations and barriers to young voter participation in elections. The research aims to analyze determinant factors in general elections, emphasizing the perspective of PPKN students at Unimed with Stambuk 2023. Through a survey approach and quantitative research design, the study reveals that student voters tend to make decisions based on in-depth understanding, personal beliefs, and active participation in political activities. These findings provide profound insights into the dynamics of student voter preferences and decision-making. Campaign strategies that prioritize effective communication regarding political parties, candidates' track records, visions and missions, work programs, and freedom of expression can enhance the potential for garnering support. Further understanding of personal values and individual experiences is also crucial in designing campaigns that align with the expectations and values of young voters. With this deeper understanding, the research aims to provide a foundation for formulating relevant policy recommendations to increase young voter participation at the university level.

Participation of Beginner Voters in Political Education in the 2024 Election in Palembang City (Case Study of the Kesbangpol Agency of Palembang City)

The purpose of this study is to determine the political education of novice voters in the 2024 Election in Palembang City (Case Study of the National and Political Unity Agency of Palembang City). The type of research used in this study is descriptive qualitative method. Data collection techniques use primary data in the form of observations and interviews. Data analysis using Miles and Huberman (data reduction, data presentation, and inference). The results of the study discuss the participation of novice voters in political education in the 2024 election in Palembang City by the National and Political Unity Agency of Palembang City. The situation on the eve of the election until now has not been uproar. Public participation to participate in local election activities, these factors are influenced by a better understanding and attention to politics that tends to contribute to the community environment to participate in regional elections, one's organizational experience in political participation activities applies to political and pseudo-political organizations. A parent's political affiliation can influence a person's participation in exercising their voting rights in local elections. With the problems that occur in Palembang City, voter participants, especially novice voters, can vote. The evaluation conducted by the Kesbangpol Agency refers to the results of participation increased by 11.74% from 70.26% in the 2018 regional elections to 82% (214,446 voters). Kesbangpol has done a good job to increase the political participation of beginners by visiting schools and as a result in the 2019 elections the increase exceeded the national target of 77.5%

Political empowerment: The role of party politics in the future of European Muslims

This paper critically examines the socio-political dynamics affecting Muslims in Europe, focusing on the significant barriers that hinder their active participation in party politics. A central argument is that the internalized secular worldview has led to widespread political disengagement. This issue is further compounded by the first generation of Muslims in Europe, who developed and entrenched a minority mindset, along with certain ulema who promote socio-political passivity and quietism, severely limiting more complex and effective political engagement. To counter this situation, the paper emphasizes the urgent need for Muslims to move beyond status quo or reactionary approaches, such as supporting mainstream parties or resorting to political abstention, both of which only superficially address their concerns. Instead, it advocates establishing independent political entities rooted in Islamic principles that strive for more profound systemic change. Such an approach would empower Muslims to form strategic alliances, challenge the status quo, and tackle broader societal issues, ultimately advancing the interests of both their communities and European society as a whole.

Little specific research, in Korea, has been conducted on whether dance can overcome it by recreating the trauma caused by war or national violence. This study examines the possibility of active political participation in Korean dance by reproducing the trauma caused by national violence and applying the theory of dance and overseas cases that conveyed the message of overcoming to Korean dance creations performed at the 40th anniversary of the May 18 Democratic Movement. To this end, domestic research trends on dance, trauma, and political context are examined, and concepts related to choreography and dance are defined to find contact points with overseas cases. In addition, overseas dance cases and theories that reproduce the trauma caused by national violence are introduced, and this is applied to works performed at the 40th anniversary of the May 18 Democratic Movement. As a result of a comprehensive study of Roland Barthes' ecriture thought, which means falsehood in reality, Roland Bleiker's aesthetic politics on the premise of imperfections in the reproduction effect, and Bill T Jones's choreographer statement, which emphasized the humble choreography creation spirit, it was found that securing uncertainty and plurality in choreography creation can maximize the possibility of trauma reproduction. As a result, most of them are still limited to memorial rituals such as Ssitgimgut and Salpurichum, and it is necessary to sufficiently increase the possibility of overcoming trauma through the efforts of the audience such as victims.

Influence of Progressive Islamic Da'wah on Economic Empowerment within the Muslim Community

The study aims to explore and analyze the impact of progressive Islamic da'wah on economic empowerment in the Muslim community. This study uses literature study methods with an integrative literature analysis approach to collect, evaluate, and compile relevant previous research results with the aim of obtaining comprehensive and in-depth results on the topics discussed. The results of this study stated that progressive Islamic da'wah has a significant impact on economic empowerment in the Muslim community. In this context, progressive da'wah has become an important agent driving changes in economic thought patterns and behavior in Muslim societies. Progressive Islamic da'wah promotes values such as justice, business ethics, inclusion, and equality, which in turn creates an environment that supports economic empowerment. The positive influence of progressive da'wah is seen in increased participation in economic life, increased capacity of individuals and groups to manage financial resources, and their contribution to local and global economic development. Economic empowerment resulting from progressive Islamic da'wah also creates comprehensive social impacts, including improved quality of life, a more sustainable environment, more active political participation, and more inclusive community development.

Analisis Koalisi Partai PKB dalam Pemenangan Putra Kiai di Pusaran Kekuasaan

This research aims to describe how the coalition of the National Awakening Party (PKB) contributed to the victory of a cleric's son in the Sidoarjo Regional Elections (Pilkada). The general objective of this study is to analyze how political party coalitions occurred during the 2020 Pilkada in Sidoarjo. To obtain data, the researcher employed library research, utilizing literature studies that did not require direct interaction with respondents or fieldwork. The researcher collected various necessary research data from literary sources or documents such as papers or previous research results related to electoral and regional elections participation in Sidoarjo. The research findings indicate several factors that led to PKB's success in the Sidoarjo Pilkada. First, the Political Party Coalition Factor: The coalition with political parties, particularly Nasdem and PSI, provided significant political support and a voter base for the Ahmad Muhdlor and Subandi ticket. PKB's negotiation strategy in forming the coalition played a crucial role in garnering support and votes. Second, the Political Participation Factor: Active political participation by the Ahmad Muhdlor and Subandi ticket, involving understanding important political issues for the community and responding to genuine aspirations for change, had a positive impact in winning voters' hearts. Their ability to articulate the needs and desires of the community through political campaigns also contributed to their victory. Third, the Modalities Factor: The modalities possessed by this ticket, including social capital such as connections with NU (Nahdlatul Ulama) and social organizations, cultural capital such as education and organizational experience, as well as economic capital acquired from campaign donations, played a significant role in building support and designing effective campaign strategies. The combination of these factors aided the PKB coalition in achieving victory in the 2020 Sidoarjo Pilkada. Cooperation within the coalition, the ability to understand relevant political issues, active political participation, and the utilization of existing modalities all contributed to creating public support and trust that enabled the Ahmad Muhdlor and Subandi ticket to succeed in the election.

Influence of PMPD on Twenty-First Century’s Political Movements in Nepal

General Secretary Madan Bhandari’s widely embraced concept, People’s Multiparty Democracy (PMPD): A Program of Nepali Revolution, received overwhelming endorsement during the Fifth Congress of CPN (UML) in 1993. This ideology seamlessly melds democracy and socialism, with distinct Nepali societal characteristics. Originally introduced as a political program, PMPD has since evolved into an indispensable guiding principle in shaping political developments following the restoration of democracy in 1990. In the wake of the publication of the 1848 Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, PMPD stands as a profoundly innovative contribution to communist political philosophy. It stands out for its successful integration of the fundamental tenets of democracy and the well-being of the populace. During a pivotal moment in the global communist movement, marked by the disintegration of the USSR and the downfall of communist governments worldwide, PMPD encapsulates the essence of a New Democracy, embodying the defining characteristics of the burgeoning capitalist democratic revolution within the unique context of Nepali geopolitical dynamics. As a revolutionary concept, PMPD is underpinned by the philosophical cornerstone of opposing feudalism, imperialism, and the stranglehold of comprador capitalism. It achieves this through people-centric programs, active participation in mainstream politics, and the promotion of rational, merit-based leadership. PMPD plays a pivotal role in facilitating a seamless transition from a century-long, centralized unitary system with monarchy to a federal democratic republic. Furthermore, the Constitution of Nepal 2015 incorporates several noteworthy features, including dynamism and flexibility, while firmly afirming the sovereignty and state power vested in the people through periodic elections.

Dynamics of Civil Islam in Identity Politics of Indonesia and Malaysia

This study explores the role of Civil Islam within the context of identity politics in Indonesia and Malaysia, focusing on its impact on the democratization process and public policy formulation in both countries. Utilizing a qualitative approach, the research gathers data from primary and secondary sources to analyze how Civil Islam, through its interactions with the state and society, influences and is shaped by local political dynamics. The findings indicate that Civil Islam in Indonesia and Malaysia plays a crucial role in strengthening democracy through active participation in identity politics, directly responding to socio-political challenges emerging in the post-reform era. In Indonesia, the movement contributes to the consolidation of Pancasila as the foundational national ideology, while in Malaysia, it strives to harmonize ethnic and religious differences within a constitutional democracy framework. This study enriches our understanding of Islamic social movements not only as responses to social injustices but also as significant actors in the formulation and implementation of inclusive national ideologies. The findings have important implications for policymakers and social activists in designing strategies that promote social integration and political stability in culturally diverse regions.
