The article substantiates the idea that geopolitics as a scientific discipline is not a static amount of knowledge, but a dynamic humanitarian scientific field, which is constantly expanding due to economic, demographic, historical, political and other factors. The definition of geopolitics as a scientific subject it has begun to fill up with a broader content. We believe it is necessary to abandon the simplified consideration of geopolitics as a science, which only studies the influence on geographic space. We should speak about the relationships between geographic space and politics, space and information sphere, demography and migration. The last two aspects, or, more precisely, a social group of young people in the migration process, are the subject of authors` consideration. Under the concept Youth Policy we will mean a system of measures to ensure and maintain a certain social status of young people (legal, political, economic, cultural etc.).Owing to a number of socio-economic reasons, and in comparison with other social groups Ukrainian young people have got into a difficult situation. Accordingly, the task of the youth policy in the state is to overcome contradictions between youth and society, to harmonize interests by means of additional measures of state support for the youth’s social group.In general, migration and youth migration in particular played and continue to play a significant role in the dynamics of sustainable development of states. Ukraine, which suffered all the consequences of the systemic crisis (and they were manifested in a sharp decline in economic growth, social maladjustment of the population, increased disintegration processes), was largely not prepared to develop an adequate youth migration policy. In Ukraine, the migration process has become controversial, and sometimes irrational.Accordingly, the outflow of Ukrainian youth beyond the borders of the Batkivshchyna actualized not only the demographic problem of Ukraine. The growing migration activity of young people encouraged us to draw attention to this aspect of defining the concept of geopolitics as a science of space control.

YOUTH PARTICIPATION IN PUBLIC DECISION-MAKING AT REGIONAL AND LOCAL LEVEL

Insufficient participation of young people is a major problem occurring in the field of administrative law. This article is devoted to the analysis of national and international legal regulations in the field of youth participation in public life. The basic assumption of the analysis is that the youth has great potential, which is not used. Given the right opportunities and tools, young people are able to diversify and raise public discussion on the functioning of the city and the region. But the activity of young people in local and regional life depends on the commitment of local authorities to provide appropriate instruments to enable them to take action. If young people have the right tools and enjoy the appropriate conditions for getting involved, they are able to realize a number of innovative projects noticeable even abroad. At a time when young people have a sense of real possibility to change their immediate environment, they are getting even more involved in the public life of their region.

Physical activity and exercise as a universal depression prevention in young people: A narrative review.

The aim of this narrative summary was to examine the efficacy of physical activity and exercise as a universal prevention for depression in young people. We conducted a search of the literature in the open-access evidence database of controlled trials and systematic reviews in youth mental health, an initiative between Orygen, The National Centre of Excellence in Youth Mental Health and headspace, National Youth Mental Health Foundation. In April 2018, we searched for all papers published between 1980 and 2017 relating to "Depressive Disorder" under the "Universal Prevention" illness stage and classified as "Physical activity/Exercise" under the treatment/intervention classification. Systematic reviews, randomized control trials (RCTs) and controlled clinical trials were all included. A total of 11 papers were returned. Three of these studies were observational and eight studies were controlled trials. The reviewed studies indicate that exercise and physical activity might be an effective universal depression prevention intervention for young people. Three of the controlled studies had a passive control group or no control group and only one study had longer-term follow-up. No trial used a longitudinal design to determine if interventions prevent the onset of new cases of depression. The studies reviewed in the current review demonstrate a bidirectional relationship between physical activity, exercise and adolescent mental health. The results of the current review suggest that physical activity and exercise programs designed to increase the level of activity in young people should be implemented to be attractive and achievable to young people that may have poor psychological health.

A good day at work. But what really is a good day at work?

Social pedagogy encourages practitioners to view everyday situations as potential learning opportunities for young people and to support them to learn through doing rather than being told. This article uses a reflective account from an experienced residential care practitioner to illustrate how creating a space in sports activities for young people to learn together and support each other to solve problems can provide an opportunity for young people to develop valuable interpersonal skills and relationships with each other.

Family and school: contexts associated with the onset of sexual activity among colombian teenagers

To analyze factors such as parental supervision and support, as well as the type of education (single-gender education and co-education) and its correlation with the initiation of sexual activity in adolescents. Quantitative, descriptive, explanatory cross-sectional study with 522 participants between 12 and 18 years of age. A questionnaire with 26 questions was applied to evaluate some parental practices, the type of education and the initiation of sexual activity. The results were analyzed using the SPSS program version 23. Each participant gave informed consent, and the confidentiality of the data was preserved. Significant differences were found regarding the onset of sexual activity in adolescents according to the type of education and age; no differences were observed with respect to family type. As the age of the adolescent increases, parents show more support and less supervision, therefore, the likelihood of engaging in sexual intercourse increases. In the context of co-education, a greater number of adolescents who had initiated sexual activity was found. This study highlights the importance of parental involvement in the education of children to delay the onset of sexual activity as a healthy practice during adolescence. Less parental supervision and a greater age result in earlier onset of sexual activity in young people. Co-educated teens engage in this activity earlier, although their mothers tend to supervise them more. Family and school are important contexts for fostering healthy life styles in teenagers.

Youth participatory research and evaluation to inform a Chagas disease prevention program in Ecuador

This qualitative study engaged a group of young people in participatory research and evaluation activities in order to study to what extent engaging youth in health interventions can inform research and evaluation processes. We applied a youth participatory research and evaluation approach (PRE) to inform research and evaluation on the impact of a Chagas disease control program in southern Ecuador. Our main interest was to examine the methodological contributions of PRE to knowledge sharing for health intervention planning in the context of global health and neglected tropical diseases. The results of this study suggest that by demystifying research and evaluation practices and rendering them accessible and relevant, marginalized youth can develop critical and reflexive thinking skills that could be useful for decision-making on health promotion. Our findings also reveal the potential of youth as active participants in project development in ways that enhance, validate, and improve health interventions. Young people are interested in learning about and sharing local knowledge that can benefit research and evaluation processes. Despite the numerous strengths demonstrated by PRE, the inherent complexities of international development, such as cultural differences, asymmetrical power relations, and the ongoing challenges of sustainability, remain.

Three Steps Forward: The quest to develop a culturally informed mental health outreach framework for engaging indigenous children, young people and families within an urban community

Introduction: Almost forty percent of all Indigenous Queenslanders are younger than fifteen years of age. It is well known that Indigenous children and young people experience higher rates of mental illness within their developmental years from stressors such as discrimination, loss of language, social dislocation, isolation, violence, grief and loss. Indigenous young people also experience higher rates of substance misuse, lower school retention rates, higher rates of incarceration, over-representation in child protection, living below the poverty line and higher rates of suicidality and deaths by suicide. Many Indigenous children and young people do not access or refuse entry to mainstream mental health services due to the negative judgement, dismissal of rights to care, non-attendance and past historical dogma and discrimination. This study investigates key care components to support the engagement of Indigenous children, young people and their families in the community. It aims to increase the transparency of the outreach model, highlight barriers in achieving the expected level of performance and will emphasise the need to work inclusively with the local indigenous population and collaboratively across government and non-government sectors. Methods: To better understand and to articulate a culturally appropriate outreach model, a time and motion study was conducted. This study is critical in observing and understanding the real time activity (consumer related and non-consumer related) of a community based indigenous outreach worker and to identify the obstacles in recording services provided. Results: The experiential information collation phase conducted two days per week, for a duration of three months was inclusive of indigenous child and youth who met the criteria for mental health referral and had an indigenous background, although not all persons were open to the service (N=120). Categories to support care needs included provisions of service on health procedures, system navigation, interventions, case management, referral pathways and other advocacy and support services. Discussions and conclusions: The activities of the indigenous outreach worker are at times difficult to capture, with many not being able to be recorded within current systems. However, it was deemed that these activities form the foundation of continued engagement - without undertaking such activities young people and families do not engage and therefore the opportunity to impact on the health and wellbeing of young people are lost. We need to continue to work with system administrators as we continue to focus on further developing our partnership models within local communities to decrease the disparity for indigenous children and youth is essential. Meeting the needs of the Indigenous population requires time to develop authentic relationships and community acceptance, communicate across sectors, broaden the traditional models of care and address barriers that prevent providers from engaging in cultural informed practices. While there remains challenges in capturing the activities, the innovative outreach model developed is seen as holding considerable promise for implementation in other areas and in improving the outcomes for Indigenous children, young people and families across the spectrum of mental health care.

The conflicts between different personalities offer contradictions, division of opinions and clashes between people. In a field like sport activity the trainers should be able to identify the motives for the conflicts that burst out among the sportsmen and the methods to overcome them. The goal of the study is to prove the positive influence of the physical activity demonstrated in the aikido game over the ways in which one may react in case of conflict situation. The respondent group consists, generally, of 64 youngsters aged from 18 to 24, divided in to two groups: Control group of 24 young people who do not practice sport; and Experimental group of 40 young people that are actively practicing aikido in various clubs in this country. We applied the approved Ken Thomas ‘Test (Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument) (Thomas, 1977). We used some given keys to determine the five instruments for reaction to conflict situations: 1) Competing; 2) Collaborating; 3) Compromising; 4) Avoiding; and 5) Accommodating. The analysis made is defining some generalizations: the young people practicing aikido have more harmonious structure of the tactics configuration to be used as a response to conflict situations in comparison to the group of non-involved in sport their peers. They are inclined to cooperation, adaptation and reasonable compromise in such environment. Competition and avoidance are not preferable techniques to resolve conflicts. In the same time non-involved in sport activities young people are governed by attitudes for competiveness; sometimes their behavior and motives are commanded by the will to make compromise and the desire to avoid conflicts to which it is difficult to adapt. The youngsters with higher physical aikido activities improve their will and tenacity; they are striving to achieve the goals and to assume definite responsibilities. Development of Foundational Movement Skills: A Conceptual Model for Physical Activity Across the Lifespan.

Evidence supports a positive association between competence in fundamental movement skills (e.g., kicking, jumping) and physical activity in young people. Whilst important, fundamental movement skills do not reflect the broad diversity of skills utilized in physical activity pursuits across the lifespan. Debate surrounds the question of what are the most salient skills to be learned which facilitate physical activity participation across the lifespan. In this paper, it is proposed that the term 'fundamental movement skills' be replaced with 'foundational movement skills'. The term 'foundational movement skills' better reflects the broad range of movement forms that increase in complexity and specificity and can be applied in a variety of settings. Thus, 'foundational movement skills' includes both traditionally conceptualized 'fundamental' movement skills and other skills (e.g., bodyweight squat, cycling, swimming strokes) that support physical activity engagement across the lifespan. A proposed conceptual model outlines how foundational movement skill competency can provide a direct or indirect pathway, via specialized movement skills, to a lifetime of physical activity. Foundational movement skill development is hypothesized to vary according to culture and/or geographical location. Further, skill development may be hindered or enhanced by physical (i.e., fitness, weight status) and psychological (i.e., perceived competence, self-efficacy) attributes. This conceptual model may advance the application of motor development principles within the public health domain. Additionally, it promotes the continued development of human movement in the context of how it leads to skillful performance and how movement skill development supports and maintains a lifetime of physical activity engagement.

Youth enterprise: the role of gender and life stage in motivations, aspirations and measures of success

‘Enterprise’ has increasingly become part of the United Kingdom’s political grammar and efforts to develop entrepreneurial traits and activities in young people have been a key strand of this policy focus. As the 2008 economic recession saw a curtailed youth labour market, enterprise emerged as an appealing policy ‘solution’ to youth unemployment. Traditional measures of enterprise chart the numbers of new businesses and their survival rates. This article argues these measures tell us little about new business owners: who they are, their motivations, experiences or, own definitions of success. Further, and crucially, such measures ignore the structural constraints surrounding enterprise and the range of social factors that may determine the extent of ambition, and willingness or capacity to take risks. This article argues that although gender and life stage were contributing factors, the young people’s structurally disadvantaged positions emerge as the most significant feature of why the move into self-employment did not tend to increase their economic stability as promised. This provides an important insight into the real-life experiences of young people who are engaging in enterprise activities in the contemporary economic context, as well as the role of third sector organisations in overseeing the transition from education to work.

A Pre-Analysis of the Effect of White, Blue and Green Background Colours on Working Memory in a Reading Span Task

Many studies have suggested that the design of a tablet screen can affect the performance its users. This study was conducted in order to investigate whether different screen background colours can affect users’ brain functions when they are performing a task on a tablet computer. The experiment focused on the relationship between background colours and memory span. Thirty Japanese university students and seven elderly people participated in the experiment. A reading span task was used in the experiment in order to observe the activities of the brain areas associated with working memory. The subjects were told to read Japanese sentences aloud while memorising underlined words with three different background colours. The analysis results of the performance scores for both young and elderly people showed that percentages were lowest for a white background compared with other colours. Moreover, recorded near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) values were negative value, which indicated the lowest activity in young people’s brains while performing the task with a white background. The results may suggest that a white background might not a good choice for either performance or brain activity.

Narrative review of theories on Juveniles deviant behaviour

Recently, Involvement of young people in different criminal activities is evidence of increased deviant behaviour in young people in Malaysia. Over the past decade, the figures for deviant behaviours among young people in Malaysia continue to increase every year. Many theories have been presented over the years to investigate the factors that are linked to the juvenile’s deviant behaviour. The current study aims to review the existing theories on the Juveniles deviant behaviour to identify the possible caused of the deviant behaviour among juveniles in Malaysia. The results indicated that there are many factors that lead young generation to the deviant behaviour like, lack of parental attention, lack of education, drug abuse and media influence, membership in gangs and urbanization. The results of the current study provided insights of the factors that lead young generation to the criminal activities in Malaysia. It will be helpful for the government for policy making to avoid these factors that lead young people to deviant behaviour in Malaysia.Â

Slaktywizm – iluzoryczna aktywność czy realne działanie?

The development of new technologies at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries led to a considerable virtualization of everyday life. Young people increasingly perceive new technologies as a space to create their own identity, as well as to new sources of virtual acquaintanceship. Slacktivism, which is termed by most researchers as a pejorative phenomenon, is also used in today’s reality to promote various events or social campaigns. The main purpose of this article is to answer the question whether passive activism is only an illusory activity of young people, or can lead to a greater involvement in real life.

‘I'm a feminist, I'm not ashamed and I'm proud’: Young people's activism and feminist identities in Estonia, Spain and the UK

This paper explores the upsurge in young people's activism across Europe by drawing on three ethnographic studies of feminist and LGBT activism. The studies include a feminist organisation, UK Feminista, in a stable liberal democracy, the Feministes Indignades in post-fascist Spain, and the LGBT movement in post-communist Estonia. The paper argues that feminist identities, both individual and collective, are critical to the feminist and LGBT movements studied; that affect, both positive and negative, contributes to processes of mobilisation and identity formation; and that, while social media are an important element of repertoires of action in all three cases, the forms of action engaged in draw on a range of cultural resources, many of which derive from earlier cycles of protest. It pays particular attention to the ‘coming out’ stories of activists, the transformation of fear and shame into anger and pride which is central both to transforming individual identities and creating collective identities, and how these processes differ in the three case studies.

Investigations of the livelihood strategies of young men and women in forested landscapes of eastern Cameroon

In rural African settings, people maintain diversified livelihood strategies to reduce risks and garner income. Although youth are currently the dominant demographic and an important group within forest communities of Central Africa, little is known about their dependence on the forest for their livelihoods. Given that young people are underrepresented in research studies, this study aimed to understand whether young people (aged 19–30) gain a large proportion of their livelihood from forest resources (including agroforestry). Focus groups and surveys were conducted in six villages in Eastern Cameroon to identify subsistence and income-driven activities of young people. In the context of many changes, young people continue to derive a large proportion of their livelihood from forest resources, especially agroforestry. Changes in livelihood activities were noted in the gender division of work and access to resources. Environmental pressure is likely to impact the livelihoods of these forest communities into the future.

Recently coffee of Indonesia become major attention of world coffee importers as Indonesia has variety of specialty coffee. Drinking coffee is believed as one of trending activities of young people in urban area. This study examined factors affecting intention to consume organic coffee. The sample was 200 undergraduate students of Universitas Tarumanagara who are coffee drinkers. The dependent of this research is intention to consume. Independent variables consist of four variables, they are spirituality, environmental concern, helath concern, and lifestyle. By using regression analysis, this study revealed that spirituality and lifestyle affect intention to consume organic coffee significantly. On the other hand, contrary to previous research, the effect of environmental concern and health concern on intention to consume organic coffee was not significant. This research finding may help marketers of organic coffee in designing their marketing program. They may pay more attention to spirituality and lifestyle aspects in order to suceed in gaining more market share.

Caracterización de la agricultura y desarrollo rural de Eslovaquia

El sector agrícola es fuente importante de recursos para la República Eslovaca. En el año 2014, la contribución de valor agregado, generado por el sector primario, a su producción nacional fue de 4.4%; en ese año un 46% de su población total vivía en zonas rurales. El objetivo fue hacer una caracterización de la agricultura y desarrollo rural de la República Eslovaca (1993-2014). Metodología. Para la caracterización se utilizaron los indicadores económicos señalados por el Banco Mundial en el apartado de agricultura y desarrollo rural. Resultados. En el periodo analizado, el valor añadido por trabajador eslovaco a la actividad agrícola, el uso de fertilizante y el rendimiento en la producción de cereales tuvieron tendencias crecientes a lo largo del tiempo; mientras que las tierras destinada a la agricultura, las superficie irrigadas, el uso de tractores, la producción agrícola, la producción animal y la producción de alimentos disminuyeron. La población rural se ha incrementado a lo largo del tiempo. En el año 2014, el 4% de la población total de Eslovaquia se empleó en actividades agrícolas. Limitaciones. Faltó incluir temas como la participación de jóvenes en las actividades agrícolas, migración, nivel educativo en zonas rurales y las acciones que se están realizando para la protección del medio ambiente. Conclusiones. La contribución del valor agregado generado por la agricultura de Eslovaquia continuará disminuyendo, sin embargo el valor añadido por trabajador Eslovaco a la actividad agrícola aumentará. La población rural seguirá teniendo una tendencia marginal creciente y la población dedicada a las actividades agrícolas continuará disminuyendo a lo largo del tiempo.

Setting policies regarding leisure activities for youths with disabilities: who will accept this mission?

ABSTRACTThe term “policy” describes both decisions and the management processes to implement them. The purpose of this study is to review policies regarding leisure activities for youths with disabilities. In many Western countries, this policy is explicit and work is being carried out to implement it. This article presents a case study carried out in Israel, which upholds the Special Education Law established in 1988 (and last amended in 2014) and where the rights of youths with disabilities are recognized and addressed within the formal education system. In an attempt to examine non-formal education policies regarding leisure activities for young people with disabilities in Israel, we interviewed 18 officials who are responsible, either directly or indirectly, for planning and carrying out leisure activities for this population. Participants were asked about the need for leisure activities for youths with disabilities and the available options that exist. The findings indicate disparity between participants' understanding of the needs, and the currently limited options for leisure for youths with disabilities. We attempt to explain this contradiction by highlighting the conspicuous absence of regulations regarding the implementation of the Equal Rights Act regarding leisure opportunities for youths with disabilities, and the resulting consequences.
