New water mite species of the genus Rhyncholimnochares Lundblad (Acariformes, Limnocharidae) from Central and South America, with a key to all known species of the genus

In the genus Rhyncholimnochares, a total of 11 species new to science is described, 10 representatives of the subgenus Rhyncholimnochares s. str. − R. ursula sp. n., R. minuta sp. n., R. cooki sp. n., R. jicotea sp. n., R. lundbladi sp. n. and R. monikae sp. n. from Costa Rica; R. expansipalpis sp. n., R. petaliseta sp. n, R. tapiarum sp. n., R. glabra sp. n. from Ecuador (the latter recorded also from Brazil and Chile), and one representative of the subgenus Paralimnochares, R. chilensis sp. n. from Chile. New records are given for R. (s. str.) lamellipalpis (O. Lundblad 1936. Dritte Mitteilung über neue Wassermilben aus Santa Catharina in Südbrasilien. Zool Anz 116 (7-8): 200–211.) from Chile. A determination key is given for all known species at the adult/deutonymphal stage.

Gaudalges averianovi sp. nov. (Acariformes: Psoroptidae)—a new parasite of Malagasy lemurs

A new species Gaudalges averianovi sp. nov. (Acariformes: Psoroptidae: Makialginae) is described from Lepidolemur ruficaudatus Grandidier (Primates: Lepilemuridae) from Madagascar. A key to all known species of the genus Gaudalges Fain, 1963 is given. This is the first finding of mites of the genus Gaudalges on lemurs of the family Lepilemuridae.

New and little known feather mites (Acariformes: Astigmata) analysed with low-temperature scanning electron microscopy

ABSTRACTFeather mites (Acari: Astigmata) were analysed with low-temperature scanning electron microscopy, including the description of three new species: Plicatalloptes atrichogynus sp. nov. (Analgoidea: Alloptidae) from the Neotropical cormorant Phalacrocorax brasilianus (Gmelin) (Pelecaniformes: Phalacrocoracidae), Metapterodectes saturninus sp. nov. (Analgoidea; Proctophyllodidae) from the chalk-browed mockingbird Mimus saturninus (Lichtenstein) (Passeriformes: Mimidae), and Neumannella crypturella sp. nov. (Analgoidea: Dermoglyphidae) from the small-billed tinamou Crypturellus parvirostris (Wagler) (Tinamiformes: Tinamidae). In addition, two previously known species are analysed, Oustaletia pegasus Trouessart, 1855 (Pterolichoidea: Vexillariidae) from the bushy-crested hornbill Anorrhinus galeritus (Temminck) (Bucerotiformes: Bucerotidae), and Opisthocomacarus umbellifer (Trouessart, 1899) (Pterolichoidea: Pterolichidae) from the hoatzin Opisthocomus hoazin (Müller) (Opisthocomiformes: Opisthocomidae). The latter two mite species display a rich variety of setal structures. Alloptes umbrettae Gaud, 1960 (Analgoidea: Alloptidae), known from Scopus umbretta Gmelin (Pelecaniformes: Scopidae), is transferred from the genus Alloptes Canestrini to Plicatalloptes Dubinin and given a new valid name, Plicatalloptes umbrettae (Gaud, 1960) comb. nov.http://zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org:pub:5866FF00-1206-4551-9544-8A002ADF7626

New data on the species Metacheyletia degenerata Fain and Bochkov (Acariformes: Cheyletidae)

Metacheyletia degenerata Fain and Bochkov, 2003 (Acariformes: Cheyletidae) is recorded for the first time from the quills of the European Bee-eater Merops apiaster L., 1758 (Coraciformes: Meropidae). It is also the first record of Metacheyletia found on coraciiform birds. Moreover, the following localities: Macedonia, Italy, Azerbaijan, Russia and Tanzania, are new for M. degenerata.

New species and records of mites of the superfamily Sarcoptoidea (Acariformes: Psoroptidia) from mammals in Brazil.

Sixteen species of the superfamily Sarcoptoidea (Acariformes: Psoroptidia) belonging to 10 genera of the families Atopomelidae, Listrophoridae, Chirodiscidae, and Listropsoralgidae are recorded in Brazil. Among them, three species, Prolistrophorus hylaeamys sp. nov. from Hylaeamys laticeps (Lund, 1840) (Cricetidae: Sigmodontinae) from Minas Gerais, Lynxacarus serrafreirei sp. nov. from Galictis cuja (Molina, 1782) (Carnivora: Mustelidae) from Rio de Janeiro (Listrophoridae), and Didelphoecius micoureus sp. nov. (Atopomelidae) from Micoureus paraguayanus (Tate, 1931) (Didelphimorphia: Didelphidae) from Minas Gerais are described as new for science. Three species of the family Listrophoridae, Prolistrophorus bidentatus Fain et Lukoschus, 1984 from Akodon cursor (Winge, 1887) (Rodentia: Cricetidae) (new host), Prolistrophorus ctenomys Fain, 1970 from Ctenomys torquatus Lichtenstein, 1830 (Rodentia: Ctenomyidae) (new host), and Leporacarus sylvilagi Fain, Whitaker et Lukoschus, 1981 from Sylvilagus brasiliensis (Linnaeus, 1758) (Lagomorpha: Leporidae) (new host) -from Minas Gerais and Rio Grande do Sul, and one species of the family Chirodiscidae, Parakosa tadarida McDaniel and Lawrence, 1962 from Molossus molossus (Pallas, 1766) (Chiroptera: Molossidae) are recorded for the first time in Brazil. The previously unknown female of Didelphoecius validus Fain, Zanatta-Coutinho et Fonseca, 1996 (Atopomelidae) from Metachirus nudicaudatus (Geoffroy, 1803) (Didelphimorphia: Didelphidae) from Minas Gerais is described. All data on host-parasite associations of sarcoptoids in Brazil are summarized. Totally, 61 sarcoptoid species of 8 families are recorded in Brazil.

Five new species of fur mites (Acariformes: Sarcoptoidea) from small mammals in Laos

Five new fur-inhabiting mites of the superfamily Sarcoptoidea (Acariformes: Astigmata) are described from small mammals associated with tower karstic landscape in Khammouane Province of Laos: Listrophoroides oconnori sp. n. from Saxatilomys paulinae Musser et al. (Rodentia: Muridae) and Atopomelus megalotis sp. n. from Hylomys megalotis Jenkins and Robbinson (Erinaceomorpha: Erinaceidae)—Atopomelidae; Afrolistrophoroides laonastes sp. n. from Laonastes aenigmamus Jenkins et al. (Rodentia: Diatomyidae), A. saxatilomys sp. n. from Saxatilomys paulinae, and Pteromychirus menetes from Menetes berdmorei (Blyth) (Rodentia: Sciuridae)—Listrophoridae.

New water mites species (Acariformes: Hydrachnidia) from the Far East of Russia

Illustrated descriptions of five water mite species, Sperchon (Hispidosperchon) nevelskoii sp. n., Teutonia (Subteutonia) minor sp. n., Lebertia (Mixolebertia) sokolowi sp. n., Mixobates amurensis sp. n. and Feltria (Feltria) orientalis sp. n., from running and standing waters of the Far East of Russia are presented.

New water mites species of the genus Feltria Koenike (Acariformes, Feltriidae) from the Asian Russia

Illustrated descriptions of two water mite species, Feltria (Feltria) aculeata sp. n., Feltria (Feltria) ussuriensis sp. n., and one new subspecies, Feltria (Feltria) cornuta rossica ssp. n., from running waters of the Asian Russia are presented.

Intestinal acariasis in Anhui Province.

The mites found in stored food and house comprise a large group of subclass Acari, belonging to the suborder Acardida of the order Acariformes. They can be found in dust and vacuum samples from floors, furniture, mattresses, Chinese herb al medicine, dry fruit, grain, flour, sugar, and bedding. These mites are nidico lous and feed on organic debris, including sloughed human skin, fungi, spilled food, pollen, etc. These mites are particularly prevalent in Chinese herbal medi cine, dry fruit, grain, flour, sugar, beds, though carpeted floors near beds or couches may also have large numbers. The most common species are Acarus siro, Ty rophagus putrescentiae, Dermatophagoides farinae, D. pteronyssinus, Glycyphagus domesticus, G. Ornatus, Carpoglyphus lactis and Tarsonemus granarius, etc. The viability of mites in storage is quite strong and they can invade and parasitize the intestines of humans[1-15]. They can cause pulmonary acariasis[16-25], urinary acariasis[26-33] and so on. The dejecta of mites is a quite strong allergen and can cause different allergic diseases[34-44]. Intestinal acariasis can be caused by some mites related to the way of diet intake and invading against intestinal mucosa, intestinal muscle [45-58]. The first report of intestinal acariasis caused by these mites was made by Hinman et al[45] (1934). From then on, all kinds of studies on the disease have been reported gradually. In order to make an epidemiological survey of intestinal acariasis the investigation of the disease was taken in so me areas of Anhui Province from 1989 to 1996.
