Research progress on knowledge discovery in traditional Chinese medicine medical records based on artificial intelligence

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) medical records represent the clinical practice records of physicians, encapsulaing a wealth of TCM clinical diagnosis and treatment experiences as well as academic thoughts of numerous TCM practitioners. Such various information provide certain basic conditions for the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technology with TCM. Through analysing successful clinical records, AI technology can extract practical and understandable knowledge. Therefore, this paper summarizes and analyzes the application of information technology in the field of knowledge discovery research from Chinese medical records. It focuses on three key aspects: the resources of TCM Medical Records, the objects of TCM records mining, and the application of AI technology. The aim is to provide beneficial references for maximizing the value of TCM medical records.

Experimental investigations on the failure characteristics of the slit-contained circular opening under biaxial compression: Insights into the rockburst prevention

The slit-cut method for the rockburst prevention and control is believed effective with its easiness in operation, adjustment and compatibility. However, there is limited advance knowledge of the physics of the slit-cut method, which is vital for the engineering designs. In this study, the biaxial compression tests with a synchronous AE (acoustic emission)-DIC (digital image correlation) monitoring are creatively carried out on the slit-contained circular opening specimens with different slit configurations to demonstrate the academic thoughts and mechanisms of the slit-cut method. The experiments document the two typical failure types namely the internal crack propagation and the dynamic rockburst, which occupy different AE hit rate characteristics and different entropy properties. With the occurrence of rockburst, the AE hit rate presents a bouncing ascend-descend trend, and a higher disorder and chaos is faithfully exhibited. Depending on the slit parameters, the slit-cut method can efficiently mitigate rockburst in terms of the occurrence frequency and magnitude. The underlying mechanism lies in the enhancement of the shear mechanism and the development of the internal cracks through which the stored energy can be greatly dissipated. However, due to the unrestricted shear failure in the slit-contained opening specimens, the opening-scale inward instability can be triggered by the internal crack coalescence, thus posing a threat to the safety of the opening. Implementing the slit-cut method with a consideration of the in-situ stress conditions is evidently essential for the safe excavation.

Market Share as a Firm Driver: Important Strategic Implications from Reviewing Literature from 1974-1995

The important strategic implications of market share were and still needed to be clearly understood. In particular, the relationship between market share and profitability have not been settled in business literature until the mid-ninety of last century. Researchers were able clarify this relationship mainly because of The possibilities it provided by PIMS data. This paper reviews the main literature on the different aspects and concepts of market share and its strategic implications from 1974-1995; the period in which this topic was in its peak; which is in return has yielded the most important academic thoughts and inferences to the subject of strategic planning. The most notable one is with regard to the conclusion that market share caused profitability has been proven to be overly simplistic.

Achieving creative collaboration between language teachers and artists

Inspired by academic thinking and practice-based work on creativity and education, and creative approaches in language education, this article is based on outcomes of the project ‘Creating Welcoming Learning Environments: Disseminating Arts-Based Approaches to Including All Learners’, funded by the UK Arts & Humanities Research Council. The project brought together creative artists specializing in filmmaking, drama, crafting, poetry and the spoken word, textiles and music with teachers in the south-west of England, who collaborated on integrating arts-based practices into language teaching, learning and assessment. The focus of the project was to generate new ways of teaching a) children developing English as an Additional Language (EAL) in mainstream primary, secondary and special schools and b) all children in schools where there is a commitment to building an ethos of inclusion and diversity in relation to languages and cultures. The article reports on how co-operative, collaborative workshops were used to bring teachers, creative artists and researchers together in a way which valued everyone’s knowledge and expertise. A thematic analysis of data from evaluation interviews undertaken with the participating teachers is provided and the potential for workshop-based professional development opportunities as a way of achieving creative collaboration in schools is discussed.

Principles for Adapting Assessments of Executive Function across Cultural Contexts.

Direct assessments of executive functions (EFs) are increasingly used in research and clinical settings, with a central assumption that they assess "universal" underlying skills. Their use is spreading globally, raising questions about the cultural appropriateness of assessments devised in Western industrialized countries. We selectively reviewed multidisciplinary evidence and theory to identify sets of cultural preferences that may be at odds with the implicit assumptions of EF assessments. These preferences relate to motivation and compliance; cultural expectations for interpersonal engagement; contextualized vs. academic thinking; cultural notions of speed and time; the willingness to be silly, be incorrect, or do the opposite; and subject-matter familiarity. In each case, we discuss how the cultural preference may be incompatible with the assumptions of assessments, and how future research and practice can address the issue. Many of the cultural preferences discussed differ between interdependent and independent cultures and between schooled and unschooled populations. Adapting testing protocols to these cultural preferences in different contexts will be important for expanding our scientific understanding of EF from the narrow slice of the human population that has participated in the research to date.

Translation Studies on Xi Jinping: The Governance of China—A Systematic Literature Review

This paper conducted a systematic literature review of the previous studies within China and other countries within the period from October 2014 to July 2023 with the purpose of investigating the research foci on the English translation of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China. This study revealed that scholars in Chinese Mainland mainly focused on three fields: research on translation strategies of political documents, cultural translation in foreign publicity translation, the external dissemination of political documents and the construction of national image. Besides, an emerging field with discourse analysis-related theories to explore discourse theory paradigms, evaluate discourse quality, and conduct corpus analysis of discourse has provided multivariant academic thinking in translation studies. Compared with Chinese scholars’ studies, there was minimal discussion about the foreign scholars’ exploration of the translation strategies and methods or other translation-related topics, which implied the urgent need of mutual academic communication between Chinese scholars and the foreign academic circles to promote the further development of Chinese political document translation studies.

Literature Review of Gehong's Academic Thought in China

In order to discuss the current research status of Ge Hong's academic thought in China from a global perspective, this paper carries out a review of the literature on Ge Hong's academic thought in China from 1980 to 2022. With "Ge Hong" and "Academic thought" as the main topics, the literatures collected in CNKI database from January 1, 1980 to December 31, 2022 were searched, and 500 literatures were analyzed by Cite Space.6.1.R1 software. The study of Ge Hong's academic thought mainly focuses on the fields of "Taoism", "health", "immortal Taoism", "Luofu Mountain" and "Confucianism"; With the development of time, new research hotspots such as "Taoist medicine" have been formed. Ge Hong's academic thought researchers are mainly distributed in major universities. Overall, the research field of Chinese Ge Hong's academic thought is extensive, and the atmosphere of cooperative research among many scholars and institutions has not been fully formed.

Function and application of traditional Chinese medicine inheritance calculate system

Abstract Traditional Chinese Medicine Inheritance Calculate System (TCMICS) is a computational tool designed to facilitate the analysis of diseases, symptoms, syndromes, prescriptions, and acupoints based on databases of existing prescriptions, medical cases, or compound formulas. The software, currently updated to version 3.5, comprehensively presents the relationships between diseases, symptoms, syndromes, prescriptions, herbal medicines, and acupoints. TCMICS integrates the functions of importing, retrieving, and analyzing diseases, syndromes, symptoms, tongue manifestations, pulse manifestations, herbal medicines, prescriptions, medical cases, and related information. It includes 7 functional modules: statistical analysis, prescription analysis, symptom analysis, tongue manifestation analysis, pulse manifestation analysis, acupoint analysis, and comprehensive analysis. TCMICS has been recognized by academicians, national TCM veterans, and renowned TCM clinics in Beijing, Shanghai, Guizhou, Shandong, Tianjin, and so on. It is regarded as an important tool for inheriting the academic thoughts and clinical experience of renowned TCM veterans and has been applied to the inheritance of Chinese medical expertise and analysis of TCM literature, as well as the development of TCM products.

For this reason, STTB presents a new journal, namely: Transformatio: Journal of Integral Theology, Education, and Mission This first edition of the Transformatio journal is dedicated to discussing various issues that arise in the context of urban services. Contains articles that discuss urban issues, it is hoped that they can make a significant contribution to academic thinking regarding urban services.

COMMON DYNAMICS IN THE EU INTEGRATION PATH OF THE WESTERN BALKANS

The European Union's role in the region and in the world is changing rapidly due to several internal dynamics and external crises and challenges. EU's project of integration remains a role model for peace and stability in the region and beyond. The EU Integration has emerged as a shared key priority for the EU institutions and Western Balkan countries that are in different trajectories of the accession process due to several dynamics and developments within the Western Balkan countries, regional dynamics, and enlargement skepticism among EU member states. While a comprehensive academic thinking exists about the EU's enlargement policy at its approach to this region, this study aims to understand the internal/regional dynamics in the EU integration path of Western Balkan countries through an overview of their history of integration as well as the EC Progress Reports (2022) for each country. It combines theoretical and empirical knowledge to offer a descriptive analysis of internal and regional dynamics in the Western Balkans affecting their EU integration paths.

Paraphrasing in ESAP: Teacher-Guided, AI-Assisted or Communicative Activities

"Paraphrasing in ESAP: Teacher-Guided, AI-Assisted or Communicative Activities. At the heart of progress in academia lies the principle of building upon other people’s ideas, linguistic expressions and/or scientific endeavours by taking note of invariably crediting the original author (Mori 2018). One way of doing this is by the usage of paraphrasing. Though paraphrasing is regarded as the prerogative of successful academic thinking and writing, what it means exactly is still ambiguous to some extent. After undertaking to formulate some working definitions, we discuss paraphrasing techniques and activities in the context of teaching English for Specific Academic Purposes to students majoring in Biology. The activities considered are grouped into three main categories with respect to the procedure involved: teacher-guided (with a focus on certain parts of a sentence/text as selected by the teacher), AI-assisted (linked to the usage of automated paraphrasing tools) and communicative (tasks having a connection to real-world communicative needs). Some examples are discussed with the purpose of determining their appropriateness in a teaching context. The article sketches an initial paraphrasing teaching toolkit, developing mainly the first category, and ends with considerations regarding future research, such as the development and implementation of AI-assisted tasks and the analysis of inferential and rhetorical processes. My Father-like Professor Shi Zhengyi: The Pioneer of Chinese Ethnological Economics (Personal Story)

Professor Shi Zhengyi (1932-2015) was the same age as my father. In Chinese tradition, a teacher for a day is a father for life. Hence, I respectfully call Professor Shi my Father-like Professor. Born in Tongcheng County, Anhui Province, in 1932. Professor Shi graduated from the Master’s Program in History of Economics of the Department of Economics of Renmin University of China in 1957. As a renowned Chinese ethnographer and economist, he has been engaged in theoretical research and teaching economics and ethnology for a long time. With meticulous scholarship and profound knowledge, he has studied Chinese and Western cultures with countless new ideas for research. Moreover, he proposed and verified the scientific approach to theoretical thinking that goes from “representation to the abstract and the concrete.” He initiated the establishment of the discipline of ethnological economics and the Institute of Ethnological Economics, pioneering the Marxist theory of ethnology specific to China. He was also the first to systematically verify the develop-the-west strategy, providing a theoretical basis for formulating national policies. He has been devoted to teaching for over 50 years, producing fruitful academic results. He has published eight monographs, edited 14 books, and published more than 120 papers. The Collected Works of Professor Shi, with more than 600,000 characters, represents the crystallization of his academic thoughts throughout his life. In his long-term academic activities and educational practices, Professor Shi developed a unique scientific approach to study known as the “rigorous, diligent, practical, creative and contextual” approach.

Academic characteristics of contemporary famous traditional Chinese medicine experts and schools in treatment of chronic renal failure based on SrTO

According to the systematic review of text and opinion(SrTO) developed by the Joanna Briggs Institute(JBI), this study integrated the evidence of the medical cases, papers, medical experience, and other related research of famous experts and schools on the treatment of chronic renal failure in the field of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) nephropathy, analyzed the academic characteristics and influencing factors from the aspects of the principle, method, recipe, and medicines, and explored the internal logic and law of inheritance and innovation in TCM nephropathy. A total of 36 famous TCM experts and 4 schools were included. The work areas are concentrated in North and South China. 94.0% of the famous TCM experts have experienced master-disciple teaching. 27.8% have studied TCM through family succession. 38.9% have been taught by multiple famous teachers. And 5.6% have not experienced master-disciple teaching. In terms of principle, method, recipe, and medicines, many innovations have been made, with 30.6% of famous TCM experts proposing new theories, 11.1% advocating staged treatment of chronic renal failure, and 47.2% summarizing the treatment methods. The formation of the academic thoughts of contemporary famous TCM experts and schools on the treatment of chronic renal failure is closely related to the learning mode, era, and work area. Contemporary famous TCM experts and schools have the academic characteristics of combining classical and clinical theories and paying more attention to TCM with western medicine supplemented. The field of TCM nephropathy has the characteristics of simultaneous inheritance and innovation. On the basis of inheriting the classical theories of TCM, it absorbs modern medical theories, combines clinical diagnosis with the syndrome and treatment law of contemporary diseases, and makes innovations in principle, method, recipe, and medicines, which has significant clinical efficacy in the treatment of chronic renal failure.

Racism in paradise: Being migrants in urban agriculture in Aotearoa New Zealand

AbstractResearch on urban agriculture (UA) has revealed that alongside the opportunities these spaces open for community building, UA can also (re)produce exclusionary practices, especially towards minority groups. Engaging with critical debates, we conducted a collective autoethnography project to explore the nuances of joining UA as Latin American migrant women of colour in Wellington, Aotearoa. We discuss how weaving critical race theory and collective autoethnography helped us reflect and amplify our counter‐stories of racial oppression. By pushing academic thinking, we also aim to inspire others to recognise, resist and rework racist (and sexist) structures, building solidarity towards decolonial and antiracist spaces.

Degenerative Teenager, Family and Puberty: The Phenomenological Body in The River

The focus on the living conditions of adolesecents has always been an important in Taiwanese cinema. This paper combines philosophical phenomenology represented by Merleau-Pontys body theory with the film phenomenology and unites the presentation of the cinematic body with the audiences corporeal preception to achieve a phenomenological oneness of subject and object. This paper hopes to use The River as a case study to explore tsais concern for marginalized groups and how it evokes emotional resonance in the audience; simultaneously, by examining body narrative and body images, it discusses the audiences visual experience and aesthetic recpetion on a physical and perceptual level, rather than only on a mental one, thus further stinulating academic thinking on the intersubjectivity of film and the body. Specifically, there will be three chapters for analysis: body narrative, situated bodies and role of film technology itself in facilitating the viewers visual experience.

Professor GAO Wei-bin's clinical experience of using electroacupuncture for dry eye.

The academic thoughts of professor GAO Wei-bin regarding the use of electroacupuncture in the treatment of dry eye are introduced. Professor GAO believes that the occurrence of dry eye is mainly related to the stagnation of qi and blood in the eye meridians, leading to inadequate nourishment of the eyes. The acupuncture treatment principle focuses on promoting blood circulation, clearing and benefiting the eye orifices. By integrating traditional acupuncture theory with modern neuroanatomy, the treatment approach centers on stimulating the lacrimal gland, emphasizing the importance of promoting, addressing symptoms as a priority, and considering both the root cause and symptoms.The precise acupoint selection is emphasized. Acupoints of periocular region, such as Taiyang (EX-HN 5) and Leixian point are selected along with Fengchi (GB 20) and Gongxue point to treat dry eye. Attention is also given to the use of electroacupuncture and the selection of its frequencies, emphasizing specific needling techniques based on the severity and classification of the disease.

Determining the willingness to link climate and trade policy

Analysts have long advocated a linkage between international cooperation on climate change and trade measures, such as border tariffs, as a means of enforcing agreements to achieve deeper cooperation. Nevertheless, it has remained difficult to evaluate whether policy makers will allow such linkages and whether linking climate and trade would, in reality, yield beneficial effects to international cooperation. Working with a large sample of climate experts who are highly experienced in climate diplomacy and policy, we elicited how they view the legitimacy and usefulness of linking trade and climate and what factors can explain those views. We find that experts from richer countries, especially Europe, are more likely to see linkage as legitimate and effective. These experts are particularly likely to favor universal border adjustments (UBAs) that apply to all countries to level the economic playing field, rather than trade measures that define an exclusive “club” of countries making extra efforts to cut emissions while punishing non-club members. This finding reveals tensions between a shift in academic thinking about the value of club-based strategies—including clubs that use border measures for enforcement—and what climate policy experts see as valuable. European experts are particularly likely to favor UBAs and they are also least likely to see risks in implementing trade measures. In general, countries with high quality national institutions see lower risks in using trade measures to enforce greater cooperation on climate change. A particularly robust finding is that experts who perceive their home country’s emissions reduction pledge as ambitious are more likely to see risks from using trade measures. While these are the countries that could benefit the most from using trade measures, they are also the countries that are offering the most under the existing Paris Agreement. Experts seem to be increasingly aware of the dissonance between the voluntarism of the Paris Agreement and growing political pressures to apply trade measures. We also find the attributes of experts, such as training and career experience, can affect their assessments. In some models, experts with economic or business backgrounds are more likely to favor trade measures while those with careers in natural science, diplomacy, and national government are less sanguine. Our results suggest that diverging views on the need for trade-based enforcement are robust, associated with important attributes of countries such as their commitments, and likely to persist—suggesting that policy strategies favoring the use of trade measures must pay close attention to the conditions that will determine where and how trade measures can be implemented. Experts from many countries that are the biggest supporters of the Paris approach to climate cooperation also doubt the legitimacy of trade measures.

Academic Exploration and Advanced Thinking: An Ethnography in the Academic Growth of Sports Doctoral Students

Background Doctoral students are quasi research-oriented scholars who should have a clear understanding of the entire process of scientific research and possess high-level academic achievements during their graduate studies. However, in reality, doctoral students still face many academic confusions, the academic community rarely pays attention to their academic thinking development process from a thematic perspective, and there is a lack of research on the impact of academic exploration on thinking development. Methods Only by exploring the academic thinking training of sports doctoral students from the thematic perspective of anthropological case ethnography can we reveal the essence of academic inquiry of doctoral students and the impact of academic inquiry on the advancement of thinking. Results Research suggests that the academic exploration of sports doctoral students is a complex process of thinking advancement. From the initial stage of cultivation to independent academic exploration, there will be multiple stages such as confusion, starting, transformation, and deepening of thinking; the cultivation of academic thinking exhibits different characteristics with different stages of academic exploration. Conclusion In the initial stage of cultivation, academic writing is the focus, and academic exploration is equated with academic research; Gradually transitioning from academic writing to metacognition of academic thinking in the middle and later stages of training, focusing on the essence of academic research, crossing the limited thinking mode of academic writing, and nurturing professional issues; Throughout the entire training period, academic exploration and advanced academic thinking are not absolutely increasing, but gradually returning to the starting point of academic exploration and the ontological level of academic research, and ultimately forming the thinking ability to independently conduct academic research.
