Abelian M5-brane on Sq6

We compute the conformal anomaly of the Abelian M5 brane on a conical deformation Sq6 of the round six-sphere. Our results agree with the corresponding results on S1×H5 that were obtained in J. Nian and Y. Zhou, “Renyi entropy of a free (2, 0) tensor multiplet and its supersymmetric counterpart,” Phys. Rev. D 93(12), 125010 (2016). For the free energies, we obtain missing Casimir energy contributions, inconsequential for the Renyi entropies, and we obtain the proposed constant shift for the Renyi entropy of the self-dual two-form.

Abelian M5-brane on S6

We study the abelian M5 brane on S6. From the spectrum we extract a series expansion for the heat kernel. In particular we determine the normalization for the coefficient a in the M5 brane conformal anomaly. When we compare our result with what one gets by computing the Hadamard-Minakshisundaram-DeWitt-Seeley coefficients from local curvature invariants on S6, we first find a mismatch of one unit. This mismatch is due to an overcounting of one zero mode. After subtracting this contribution, we finally find agreement. We perform dimensional reduction along a singular circle fiber to five dimensions where we find the conformal anomaly vanishes.

Partially twisted superconformal M5 brane in R-symmetry gauge field backgrounds

We obtain the action for a curved superconformal abelian M5 brane with the background R-symmetry gauge field turned on. We then restrict ourselves to superconformal M5 brane on a sphere times flat Minkowski space. We choose R-symmetry SO(1,4) instead of SO(5), which enables us to partially twist on Minkowski space and replace it by some curved Lorentzian manifold. We obtain M5 brane actions on $M_{1,1} \times S^4$ and $M_{1,2} \times S^3$ where actions and all fields, including the background gauge field, are real. Dimensional reduction along time gives real 5d SYM actions with nonabelian generalizations.

Supersymmetric perturbations of the M5 brane

We study long-wavelength supersymmetric deformations of brane solutions in supergravity using an extension of previous ideas within the general scheme of the blackfold approach. As a concrete example, we consider long-wavelength perturbations of the planar M2-M5 bound state solution in eleven-dimensional supergravity. We propose a specific ansatz for the first order deformation of the supergravity fields and explore how this deformation perturbs the Killing spinor equations. We find that a special part of these equations gives a projection equation on the Killing spinors that has the same structure as the $\kappa$-symmetry condition of the abelian M5 brane theory. Requiring a match between supergravity and gauge theory implies a specific non-linear gauge-gravity map between the bosonic fields of the abelian M5 brane theory and the gravity-induced fluid-like degrees of freedom of the blackfold equations that control the perturbative gravity solution. This observation sheds new light on the SUGRA/DBI correspondence.

M5/D4 brane partition function on a circle bundle

We consider Abelian M5 brane on a six-manifold which we take as a circle bundle over a five-manifold M . We compute the zero mode part of the M5 brane partition function using Chern-Simons theory and Hamiltonian formulation respectively and find an agreement. We also show that the D4 brane on M shares exactly the same zero mode partition function again using the Hamiltonian formulation. For the oscillator modes we find that KK modes associated with the circle compactification are missing from the D4 brane. By making an infinitesimal noncommutative deformation we have instanton threshold bound states. We explicitly compute the instanton partition function up to instanton charge three, and show a perfect match with a corresponding contribution inside the M5 brane partition function, thus providing a very strong supporting evidence that D4 brane is identical with M5 brane which extends beyond the BPS sector. We comment on the modular properties of the M5 brane partition function when compactified on T 2 times a four-manifold. We briefly discuss a case of a singular fibration.

A preliminary test of Abelian D4–M5 duality

We compute the partition function of five-dimensional Abelian SYM including a graviphoton term on a five-torus. The result agrees with Abelian M5 brane partition function with zero characteristics on an associated six-torus.
