Affandi Museum, located on the banks of the Gajah Wong River at Jalan Laksda Adisucipto No. 167, Yogyakarta, occupies a strategic location that is easily accessible to both domestic and international tourists. However, the museum currently lacks a virtual version for remote visits. To remain relevant and accessible to the digital generation, this research aims to transform Affandi Museum into a 3D Virtual Tour and develop its interactivity using the prototype method. This approach allows for rapid and iterative development, focusing on interactive elements such as navigation, pop-up information, and audio guides, using the Unity platform. Usability testing involves various users to ensure an intuitive interface and optimal experience, resulting in highly valued aspects such as ease of navigation, visual quality, and interactively presented information, with an average rating of 4.7/5. This digital transformation enables Affandi Museum to reach a wider audience and strengthen its position as a center of cultural and art education.

Virtual reality applied as a teaching tool: 3D virtual tour at IFMT Tangará da Serra

This work aims to develop a virtual tour of the IFMT Tangará da Serra campus facilities using 3D modeling and Virtual Reality (VR) to be applied in the discipline of introduction to Computer Graphics of the technical course of Maintenance and Support in Informatics integrated to High School. VR allows the interaction and navigation of users in 3D environments maintained by computer, using mapping channels and analysis of user behavior, enabling the exchange of information between the virtual environment and the user, affecting one or more human senses. It is an interaction and entertainment technology that can be successfully applied to assist in teaching strategies in high school subjects. With the evolution of education, that is, the improvement of the processes of exploration, discovery, observation and construction of knowledge, new teaching tools have been emerging, among which virtual learning environments stand out because they allow people to conduct experiments or perform tasks in a new and different way that they could not do in the physical/real world, such as flying, visiting places that do not exist or are difficult to access through the manipulation and analysis of the object of study itself. Thus, VR will be fundamental in this process of educational evolution, where the use of digital tools such as ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies) is increasingly sought for the successful application of active teaching methodologies in the classroom. Therefore, the objective of this project refers to the development of an interactive VR system to be used with 3D VR glasses, designed, modeled and rendered using the free software Blender, to present a virtual tour of the facilities of the IFMT Tangará da Serra campus. This tool will be very useful for demonstrating computer graphics concepts to students, as well as to the external community, as a form of institutional promotion and marketing.

Integrating Menominee model for sustainable forestry with Systems Thinking competency through 3D virtual tours

AbstractSustainability competencies enable planners, the public, local communities, academics, and development practitioners to address environmental challenges, better envision the future and devise practical solutions. A key competency in this framework is Systems Thinking, allowing individuals to think comprehensively at different temporal and spatial scales. Among all interested groups, local and Indigenous communities play a significant role in preserving the sustainability of the natural environment and co-producing knowledge based on traditional ecological knowledge. Hence, new approaches are needed to integrate traditional ecological values into competency-based practices to articulate problems and related solutions. This project introduces place-based scenarios rooted in conventional forest management concerning two identified subsets of Bloom’s Taxonomy, Remembering and Understanding, including some competencies necessary for thinking systemically. Overall, 57 participants, including students and staff of the College of Menominee Nation and Menominee community members, in northeast Wisconsin, USA, randomly experienced two visual tools with the same information presented as either: a website with simple 2D images or a 3D virtual tour to investigate which visualization method can help better articulate systems, their components, and behaviors. Participants answered two kinds of questionnaires based on either cognitive mapping or reflection on place-based scenarios. The results show that 3D virtual tour users better demonstrated proficiency in Remembering and Understanding compared to users who experienced the 2D website. Our results thus highlight the potential for 3D virtual experiences to enable sustainability competencies. However, given the observed differences among age and educational groups, future visualization tools and associated research methods should attend to audiences’ competencies, preferences, and comfort, especially among older age groups.

COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF POINT CLOUDS ACQUIRED FROM A TLS SURVEY AND A 3D VIRTUAL TOUR FOR HBIM DEVELOPMENT

Abstract. This paper presents a comparative analysis of point clouds acquired from a terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) survey and a 3D virtual tour using Matterport technology for heritage building information modeling (HBIM) development. The study uses the Cloister of the Royal College of Corpus Christi Seminary, an important cultural heritage site in Valencia, Spain, as a case study. The point clouds from the TLS survey and Matterport scans were compared both quantitively in CloudCompare software and visually to assess their accuracy and quality. The Matterport point cloud data was found to be slightly lower in quality and accuracy compared to the TLS data, but still sufficient for developing some low-tolerance geometry in the HBIM model. The study shows that Matterport point cloud data has potential to supplement TLS scans, particularly in areas missed during the TLS survey due to range limitations. Matterport technology is accessible, affordable, and easy to use, making it a feasible option for heritage sites with limited resources. Moreover, Matterport technology captures high-quality visual data, including color and texture, providing a detailed representation of the heritage site. Thus, Matterport technology can be a valuable contribution to cultural heritage documentation and preservation, particularly for sites requiring a quick and efficient surveying process. The findings of this research offer insights into the relative advantages and limitations of these two reality capture techniques for cultural heritage documentation and preservation, and could potentially inform decision-making processes for future heritage preservation projects.

Designing a Chatbot Based on Full-Text Search and 3D Modelling as a Promotional Media

A chatbot is an application that can respond and reply to questions from the questioner, without any human being involved. In general, chatbots are used to simplify and improve public services, so that users can get information quickly and directly, without time constraints. This research objective is to create promotional media in the form of chatbots in the 3D Virtual Tour to answer questions and provide general information about an object while providing more attractive visuals for users. The method used to run the chatbot is Full-Text Search. Full-Text Search is an efficient and powerful search method that is built into MySQL by default, which works by matching words between keywords and patterns in the database. This study succeeded in applying the Full-Text Search method as a search technique for chatbot patterns in the 3D Virtual Tour application at Buddhi Dharma University as a promotional medium. Evaluation using the User Acceptance Test (UAT) method yielded a value of 83.45% in a very satisfying category for users.

Testing presence, assessing attitudes: Study of a 3D virtual tour in an “aesthetically challenged” landscape

This article examines the utility of 3D immersive media for enhancing public attitudes toward rare, open-canopied habitat restoration where the proposed treatments and outcomes may appear risky, unsightly, and at odds with people's sense of place in a forested landscape. We used 360° videos and video game software to build the first desktop-based, virtual tour of fire-dependent Pine Barrens restoration practices in Wisconsin's Northwoods in order to intervene where stakeholders have disapproved of pine barrens through conventional messaging. The study measured changes in attitudes toward clear-cutting, prescribed fire, and pine barrens between participant groups in a 2D- and 3D-media informational intervention including 73 subjects from Wisconsin and Minnesota. Results showed that both media interventions significantly enhanced attitudes across all three target categories, despite increased spatial presence, or immersion, in the 3D format. Against the 2D treatment, the 3D tour significantly enhanced both people's aesthetic sense of pine barrens and their attitudes toward this landscape for those whose initial attitudes were neutral or negative.

IMPLEMENTATION OF THE TOGAF FRAMEWORK ON A VIRTUAL TOUR OF WEB-BASED CILETUH GEOPARK TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

Ciletuh Geopark area is one of the marine tourism in Sukabumi regency. This tour has been recognized by UNESCO both nationally and internationally which now has changed its name to Ciletuh Geopark. However, in the management of information technology, there are still several problems, including the lack of information about the condition of the tourist attraction in Palabuhan Ratu Ciletuh Geopark, Sukabumi Regency. This study designed an information system based on a virtual tour website with the aim of being able to help tourists and the people to be able to find information online about Geopark Palabuhan Ratu Ciletuh tourist attraction, Sukabumi Regency with various existing tourist objects that can be accessed via the internet. This study uses the togaf framework where this framework has a systematic nature so that it is more flexible. Sources of data were taken by searching online from several sources related to the Ciletuh Geopark, Sukabumi Regency. The results obtained are in the form of a 3D virtual tour website where this website displays a 360 panorama along with information from each tourist attraction location as well as testing using blackbox and UAT (User Acceptance Test) every feature on the VIRGEO (Virtual Geopark) website has been fulfilled so that users can more easily access and find out the condition about Palabuhan Ratu Ciletuh Geopark tourist attraction, Sukabumi Regency easier.

STEM for All on the SS Freshspring: VR Tour

Over the past year the world has changed dramatically. With greater restrictions on accessibility, the need to provide innovative and distributable remote experiences is now more prominent than ever. BMT has partnered with the SS Freshspring Trust to create multi-generational STEM experiences. “Preserving the past to inspire knowledge for the future”. The SS Freshspring Trust have a vision to become a STEM hub by utilising cutting-edge technology. BMT have extensive experience in developing VR applications in the Maritime Domain. With skills shortfalls in many engineering disciplines, there is a need to inspire future generations into careers in STEM. Equally, many adults have a passion for technology and have valuable skills to offer to STEM projects. This paper uses the historic vessel SS Freshspring, a 1940s RFA Fresh Water Carrier currently being restored in North Devon, as the basis for exploring a range of initiatives and activities aimed at making engineering and technology interesting and accessible to all. The specific focus is on the development of an interactive 3D virtual tour, aiming to provide access to a wide audience by targeting a range of modalities including smartphones, internet browsers, and most consumer VR headsets.

DEVELOPING A DATA FUSION STRATEGY BETWEEN OMNIDIRECTIONAL IMAGE AND INDOORGML DATA

Abstract. As the interest in indoor spaces increases, there is a growing need for indoor spatial applications. As these spaces grow in complexity and size, research is being carried out towards effective and efficient representation. Omnidirectional images give a snapshot of interiors and give visually rich content, but only contain pixel data. For it to be used in providing indoor services, its limitations must be overcome. First, the images must be connected to each other to represent indoor space continuously based on spatial relationships that may be provided by topological data. Second, the objects and spaces that we see in these images must also be recognized. This paper presents a study on how to link omnidirectional images and an IndoorGML data without the need for data conversion, provision of reference data, or use of different data models in order to provide Indoor Location-Based Service (LBS). We introduce the use of the Spatial Extended Point (SEP) to characterize the relationship between the omnidirectional image and the topological data. Position information of the object is used to define a region of 3D space, to determine the inclusion relationship of an IndoorGML node. We conduct an experimental implementation of the integrated data in the form of a 3D Virtual Tour. The connection of the Omnidirectional images is demonstrated by a visualization of navigation through a hallway towards a room’s interior delivered to the user through a clicking action on the image.

GIS Analyses and Maps Creation of a Naturalistic Area: The Carengione Oasis

This paper describes the experience carried out with the aim to provide a technical and geo-referenced contribution to a project, submitted to the Common of Peschiera Borromeo in the Province of Milan in Lombardy. The promoter is a group of local associations; the aim is the valorisation and fruition of a green area, named Carengione Oasis. At first a GIS pre-analysis of the area has been performed to achieve a thorough knowledge of the area object of study. Then, a handheld GSP navigator has been employed to collect the data to be processed in a GIS software. This device choice has pros (a fast and very easy survey has been carried out) and cons (the acquired data have a precision of 3 to 5 meters). These data have been processed with the aid of the GIS software ArcMap release 10.4.1 by Esri. Also some free aerial images have been employed to edit features inaccessible on site. The achieved results are some thematic, metric and georeferenced maps and also a 3D virtual tour for a realistic visit of this area. They fulfil the project requirements. Anyway, due to their low precision, they have not been uploaded to enrich the official Lombardy cartography (DBTR); for this reason, part of them has been donated to the free data interchange OpenStreetMap. This work could be considered as a first step for future more precise surveys which would allow adding the acquired results to the DBTR; it has also been planned to create a story map describing the experience illustrated in this paper.

Patrimonio cultural y el diseño: el caso de un sistema producto para el sitio arqueológico de Cochasqui, Ecuador

Este ensayo resume un trabajo realizado por la Universidad San Francisco de Quito y el Connecticut College en 2010, que consistió en el desarrollo de un sistema producto sobre el sitio arqueológico de Cochasquí (Quito, Ecuador). Está constituido por un tour virtual en 3D, modelos 3D de 360º de las cerámicas del sitio, animaciones 3D de la relación de los solsticios y equinoccios con las pirámides del sitio, videojuegos que relatan acontecimientos históricos,recopilación de videos y fotografías del lugar, así como entrevistas, todo esto junto en un sitio web a disposición del público. La elaboración del proyecto representó un reto ante la escasez de datos y la existencia de información contradictoria. Sin embargo, la aproximación multifacética del proyecto proporciona al usuario información que le permite generar su propia interpretación del sitio.

Research on The Preliminary Design of 3D Virtual Tour Based on The VRML Technology

3D virtual tour is a product of the combination of tourism and information technology development, and building a three-dimensional virtual tour platform will facilitate the future development of the tourism industry. Virtual reality technology has brought about tremendous changes in the tourism industry. Modeling Language VRML, which uses Virtual Reality, turns the rich imagination of people into any model, thus achieving the prediction and simulation of tourist attractions both visually and acoustically. The C/S mode, which has made the system more interactive and the effects in system planning quite well and has created a comfortable and convenient travel environment, has received people’s attention.
