The F8 Makassar Festival was organized by the Makassar City Government with the aim of transforming the city's image from one associated with demonstrations into a city known for its festivals. This study seeks to map out the communication activities that took place during the F8 Makassar Festival using a case study approach. The findings reveal that communication activities were primarily focused on publicity and were executed by the Makassar City Communications and Information Agency (Diskominfo) as the government's public relations arm. However, Diskominfo was not involved in message formulation, as its role was outside of the organizing committee. Several publicity strategies were identified, including the use of agenda-setting to construct the image of a “Festival City,†leveraging the political influence of the incumbent mayor to aid publicity efforts, producing efficient content, collaborating with local and regional media, and utilizing the communication networks of the Makassar City Tourism Office (Dispar) and event organizers. No monitoring or evaluation stages were conducted, leaving the success of the city’s transformation into a festival city unclear. Furthermore, the F8 Makassar Festival was not part of a deliberate PR campaign aimed at shaping the "Festival City" image.

This study aims to analyze the culture of netizen comments on socio-cultural issues on the Twitter/X platform through a qualitative approach with a literature study method. This approach is used to understand the meaning and social dynamics that emerge in digital discourse through analysis of theories and findings from various previous studies. The analysis was carried out using the Critical Discourse Analysis framework from Teun A. van Dijk, which includes text analysis, social cognition, and social context. The results of the study show that netizen comments not only reflect individual expression, but also become a means of identity construction, ideological expression, and representation of power in digital society. Elements such as humor, sarcasm, language choices, and emotions are used to convey social criticism and negotiate cultural values. These findings emphasize the importance of digital discourse in the formation of public opinion and contemporary socio-cultural dynamics.

Uses and gratification theory is the most appropriate theory to understand the motivations of social media users. The aim of this research is to identify the main motive that drive university students aged between 18 - 24 years for using TikTok. A survey was conducted on 383 TikTok users in Malang, selected through a disproportionate stratified random sampling method. Data was collected using an online questionnaire with five motives for using TikTok: social interaction, self-expression, peeking, escapism, and archiving. The results show peeking is the main motivation for using TikTok. Peeking is a form of voyeurism in the new media era, which is a desire to see other people's private lives. TikTok itself contains content that strongly supports this motive, specifically the 'day in my life' content.

Novel-to-film adaptations have become common in the film industry, mainly due to technological advancements resulting from globalization. The success of a film adaptation depends not only on the popularity of the original story but also on the quality of the filmmaking process, especially in scriptwriting, which involves reinterpretation of the story that allows for dialogue, new scenes, and even plot changes. This research examines the adaptation process of the novel Poor Things by Alasdair Gray, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, focusing on the stages of adaptation using four aspects of adaptation according to Linda Hutcheon, namely what, who and why, how, where and when, which are still rarely discussed. The results of this study show that the film adaptation of Poor Things is able to transform the novel into a visual work in the form of a film that is relevant and attractive to the audience, as evidenced by winning several prestigious awards. Based on these findings, the hypothesis proposed is that an adaptation requires changes in order always to be relevant and acceptable to the audience using qualitative research methods on secondary sources.

The controversy arose after the Constitutional Court (MK) granted and decided on case number 90/PUU-XXI/2023 regarding the age limit for presidential and vice-presidential candidates. The polemic regarding the decision, which was announced on October 16, 2023, is intriguing because the media, particularly the mass media tvOne in the program "Catatan Demokrasi," is trying to delve deeper into the reasons why this decision is marked by pros and cons, as well as guiding public awareness about the impact of this decision on national life from social and political perspectives. A qualitative descriptive method with Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis was used to study media coverage in the broadcast of the "Catatan Demokrasi" episode "Heboh Putusan MK: Kenapa Banyak Yang Protes?" (Controversy over MK's Decision: Why Are Many Protesting?) to uncover the discourse behind the MK's decision. The research results show that the mass media, particularly tvOne, has successfully directed public perception to be more politically aware and wise in responding to issues related to the MK's decision. The dominant discourse found through this research indicates tension between the push to involve young people in politics and concerns about the practice of political dynasties and nepotism, which are heavily reflected in the decision-making process.

This study examines the resistance of Hindu figures in Bali to sampradaya groups, especially Hare Krishna and Sai Baba, which developed through social media. Using a qualitative approach, this study aims to understand the rejection of sampradaya as an organized public movement that demands the revocation of the legality and protection of organizations affiliated with the group. Simmel's theory of social conflict is used to explain the conflict of values and norms between Hindu figures and sampradaya. Through the analysis of social media discourse, it was found that Hindu figures actively built digital networks which were then followed by actions in the field. This resistance not only reflects the rejection of sampradaya teachings, but also shows the dynamics of broader social polarization. Negative narratives, verbal attacks, and stereotypes spread through social media contribute to tensions between groups and increase the potential for religious conflict. This study highlights the importance of building open dialogue spaces between religious groups to prevent further conflict and create cross-traditional understanding. These findings also reflect the complexity of the relationship between local Hindu traditions and the influence of modernity in contemporary Balinese society. This study makes an important contribution to the study of religion and culture in Indonesia, while encouraging further research in the context of tolerance and social diversity.
