Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) material is advocated for use in bridge structures to solve the corrosion and degradation problem of conventional steel reinforcements, thereby improving its durability and service life. Also, compared with ordinary concrete, self-compacting concrete (SCC) mixed with abundant industrial waste materials is expected to achieve sustainable development of concrete infrastructure. However, the research examining the performance of FRP reinforced SCC slabs in a real bridge is rather limited. This paper describes the application of basalt-FRP (BFRP) in a real bridge deck slab cast with low energy SCC. Since few studies have considered arching action on a real bridge deck slab, this paper aims at extending previous laboratory research using glass-FRP (GFRP) and BFRP reinforcement in in-plane restrained slabs to real bridge deck slabs. This study primarily investigates the serviceability behavior of real bridge deck slabs and utilizes the arching theory to predict their ultimate bearing capacity. The bearing capacities of real bridge deck slabs have been compared with the current specification requirements and the predictions considering arching theory. The test results indicate that a significantly low percentage of FRP reinforcement is possible in real bridge deck slabs due to the advantageous arching action.

<b>The Jardine River turtle (Emydura subglobosa) was selected as a potential model species for studies on freshwater turtles and general reptile physiology. Attempts to establish a freshwater turtle laboratory line were made when an adult pair of E. subglobosa was received in 2016 by the Laboratory of Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture (Poznań University of Life Sciences). The first generation of offspring was obtained in 2017, and the second generation in 2023. In each generation, unrelated specimens were added to the animal cohort to avoid inbreeding. Husbandry regimes were established, and a basal diet for nutritional experiments was developed and manufactured by two methods, producing extruded feed and a gelatine-solidified variant. The establishment of the Freshwater Turtle Laboratory Line (FTLL) provides an opportunity to improve the development of husbandry techniques, increase knowledge of reptile physiology, and use laboratory-raised animals as model species for research and education.

High economic development is caused to increase ecological footprint (EF). Increasing EF creates an impediment for sustainable development. Previous studies applied several methods and indicators to examine EF in different countries. However, very few studies could examine the originating factors of EF using empirical models. Hence, this chapter measures EF for SAARC countries during 2000 – 2022. It explains the comparative performance of SAARC countries in EF using a time trend analysis. Thereupon, it also examines the impact of certain indicators on EF in SAARC countries using robust empirical analysis. There seems to be significant diversity in EF due to disparity in economic development and its enhancing factors in SAARC countries. EF increases as industrialization, greenhouse gas, inflation, GDP per person employed and age dependency ratio increase. Digitalization, renewable energy consumption, technological change and life expectancy rate showed a negative impact on EF.

Pensions are an essential component of society, and owing to rising population aging, life expectancy, healthy living years, and a lower fertility rate, financial sustainability will be a worldwide issue in the future. The purpose of this chapter is to examine the influence of social and economic variables on pensions and financial sustainability, as well as to suggest some methods to enhance the well-being of the elderly Romanian population using technological modeling. The R square indicates that 99.47% of the development of variable pension (Y) is described by the evolution of social variables (X1-X7) and 99.98% is explained by the evolution of economic factors (X8-X14) using mathematical modeling. The correlations between variables and covariance indicate an effect on the pension fund's stability and financial sustainability. The professionals might use technological modeling to develop future sustainable solutions for the pension system and to enhance the well-being of the elderly Romanian pension population.

The Colombian flower industry has been growing and consolidating itself as one of the main economic activities in the country. This activity generates significant environmental and social impacts throughout its life cycle that must be resolved in order to consolidate itself as a sustainable economic activity, and for this reason the project "Environmental, economic and social life cycle assessment for hydrangea agro-industrial companies as a strategy for sustainable development in the Province of La Paz in eastern Antioquia, Colombia" is being developed for small and medium-sized producers' crops to trigger impacts and externalities in the production process. The methodology used in the project was based on the series of ISO 14040 and 14044 Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and UNEP standards, which were evidenced in the production process of hydrangeas for export in a small farm. Some of the significant results of the research allowed identifying that the cultivation stage has grater influence on the categories of environmental impacts and social indicators evaluated, thus achieving the consolidation of relevant actions to improve the performance of the crops from a sustainability perspective.

Sustainability is at the heart of modern nature-based projects. Ensuring sustainability is implemented within the framework of 17 SDGs, which are considered Sustainable Development Goals. The main goal here is for both humanity and nature to have a higher quality of life. Many technologies are used to implement and ensure sustainability. The integration of technology into nature is developing on a different scale than in the recent past. Emphasis is now placed on the introduction of more nature-friendly technologies. These are mainly known as green technologies and are applied in many different sectors. Another category of green technologies is green information technologies, which are used to implement more sustainable computing. In addition, green technologies especially integrated into the smart environment are known as the green internet of things by being integrated into the internet of things ecosystem resulting from the establishment of a network of smart green technology or in other words smart devices. In this chapter, the integration of green technologies into the internet of things ecosystem, its features, green IoT devices, and their application in various sectors in terms of sustainability are discussed.

The rapid advancement of human society has brought about significant changes to the global landscape, with infrastructure development often at the forefront of these transformations. While such developments have undoubtedly improved human quality of life, they have also had profound implications for the natural world, particularly in terms of biodiversity decline. This chapter explores the complex interplay between societal development, infrastructure expansion, and the degradation of biodiversity, examining both the direct and indirect impacts of these factors on ecosystems worldwide. Through a multidisciplinary approach encompassing ecological, sociological, and economic perspectives, the authors seek to elucidate the mechanisms driving biodiversity loss in the face of human progress. Additionally, they highlight the importance of sustainable development practices and proactive conservation efforts in mitigating the adverse effects of societal growth on the planet's biological diversity.

The tourism sector is indeed quite promising to help increase foreign exchange reserves and pragmatically also able to increase people's incomes, sustainable tourism development is defined as a tourism development process oriented to the preservation of resources needed for future development where the surrounding community acts as a provider of tourist needs services. Humanitarian factors and local cultural entities should not be ignored, meaning that community life should not be uprooted from its cultural roots only because of the commercial emphasis of tourism, the lifestyle and culture of local communities, so researchers want to see how the role of community and government participation in development tourism as a leading destination and how tourism development is realized as a superior destination.

Tribal tourism is an important junction of cultural discovery and sustainable development, providing unique insights into indigenous cultures' ways of life while creating economic possibilities and protecting cultural legacy. This literature-based research offers an anthropological look into tribal tourism in India, analyzing its implications for cultural preservation, sustainable development, and community empowerment. This research analyzes major themes and trends in tribal tourism after conducting a thorough examination of academic literature, government papers, and industry publications. It investigates the complex interactions between visitors and indigenous people, emphasizing the significance of cultural sensitivity, equitable partnerships, and community participation in tourism development programs. Furthermore, the study investigates the function of ethnographic research methodologies in understanding the sociocultural dynamics of tribal tourist destinations, highlighting the need of respectful collaboration and ethical issues. Furthermore, this study examines the influence of tribal tourism on sustainable development, namely its ability to produce cash, offer job opportunities, and encourage environmental conservation practices among indigenous communities. It also tackles issues including cultural commercialization, loss of authenticity, and the importance of responsible tourist practices in mitigating negative effects and ensuring the long-term viability of tribal tourism operations. Finally, this literature-based study adds to our understanding of the complex relationship between tribal tourism, culture, and sustainable development, providing insights for policymakers, researchers, and practitioners looking to promote responsible and inclusive tourism practices that benefit both indigenous communities and visitors.
